Peter didn't have many hobbies. He spent most of his time out spider-manning around Queens or working as an intern at SI, or you know, going to school, so he didn't have the time for many hobbies. However, one thing he did enjoy doing was taking videos.
His obsession had started when he was 11. His uncle Ben had taken him to a park and a film crew had been there, taking shots for a new movie. Peter had been enraptured with it, and spent the entirety of their trip watching as the actors performed and stunt doubles did awesome stunts.
Afterwards, Peter hadn't stopped talking about it for weeks. Eventually May and Ben brought Peter his own camera, not an extra nice one, they couldn't afford it, but a decent second-hand camera they found online. Peter loved it, taking it everywhere with him.
When he was 13, Peter was looking through YouTube and came across someone's blog posts. He couldn't remember the person in question, but he could remember liking the idea of filming everything he did, like his own personal movie.
So that's what he did, Peter started his own blog series. Nothing big and never posted online, just for him, family and friends. He filmed pretty much anything, from Ned's new Lego set, too May and Ben dancing and singing in the kitchen as they made dinner. They were Peter's memories and he cherished all of them.
After Ben's death, Peter stopped his blogs for a while, not being able to bring himself to use the camera Ben had bought for him, or film about his day that no longer included uncle Ben.
About 5 months after Ben's death, Peter was going through his stuff as May was having a clear out and he came across the camera that held so many memories. After getting lost in the moment and watching all the videos on the little piece of metal, Peter decided he would get back into making blogs. This time however, he would be posting them online, in memory of Ben.
He decided he would film them as Spider-Man, show people Spider-Man when he isn't out kicking bad guy butt. Deciding upon the name webslinger for his YouTube channel, Peter quickly got to work. Soon, he uploaded his first video.
Opens to a picture of the New York city skyline, then Peter dressed in his spider-man outfit lowers himself down using some web, so he's hanging upside down in front of the city backdrop.
"Sup people of the world. It's your favourite friendly neighbourhood spider-man here. I decided I'm gonna make a nice blog series for you all, so you can see what I see as I swing around Queens."
Video cuts to a view of spider-man's outstretched hand, shooting out a web and latching onto a nearby building and swinging through the suburban jungle that is Queens.
"This is what it looks like to swing along the rooftops, it's great! Plus, up here, I have a better view of the city, meaning I can see where there's trouble, and there's no traffic up here so I can get across the city in no time."
Video cuts again to show spider-man eating a bagel someone gave him as a thank you.
"You guys are really sweet. There was this old lady that I helped cross the road and brought her shopping in for her, and she gave me a bagel! I love bagels, though to be honest, who doesn't?" (Read: The author of this story is weird and doesn't like bagels.)
"Oh! I need to tell you guys somethi- wait I think I hear something. Yep, ok I'll be right back!"
Video cuts to the same spot with spider-man sitting in shot, this time looking a little out of breath and more dishevelled than before.
"There were these guys right, and they had cornered a woman and were trying to mug her, then I showed up and was all like 'I think you should leave this nice woman alone' then they were like 'Everything's fine, were just having s little fun, why don't you run along now', and obviously I wasn't having that so I was like 'I don't think so', then I shot the lead guy with some web and stuck him to the alley wall. Then the other guys came charging at me, and it was awesome by the way, then I beat them all and left them stuck to the wall for the cops to find. The woman thanked me and told me I was her hero, which made my day guys, I'm not gonna lie. So yeah."
There's a silence as spider-man looks out over the horizon. He then startled and looks back at the camera.
"Oh yeah, I wanted to tell you something. So, Mr Stark doesn't know about this, I mean this is literally the first post and no one knows about it yet, but as of right now, whilst I'm filming this, Mr Stark doesn't know I have a blog, none of the avengers do. Now, none of them really go on YouTube so I'm thinking, what if I post some videos from inside stark towers right? Then you can see what the avengers are like? Yeah I think I'll do that. Let me know in the comments what you would be interested in seeing! Now I've got to go, cause there's no rest for the wicked so there's no rest for me either. Ummm yeah, bye guys! See you next time in spideyblogs! That's what this is called now, yep, spideyblogs by webslinger. Anyway bye guys, stay safe and stay sticky!"
[End of video]
Only after posting the video did Peter realise that some people would have their heads in the gutter over that final line, but too late to go back now. He had already decided that would be his closing line for the videos.
Going to bed after finishing his homework and releasing his first video, Peter didn't notice how his computer kept repeatedly lighting up all through the night as loads of people all across the globe liked the video and subscribed to his channel. When he woke up the next morning, he woke up to having 2.3 million subscribers already! After just one post. Unreal. Not to mention the 5.87 million likes on the video.
Over time, his channel got more and more popular with every new video. At first it was just blogs of his nightly patrols, swinging through the city, but over time it changed. Sometimes he may film himself taking down lesser bad guys, like petty crooks that wouldn't have done any real harm. Sometimes he would show himself and Ned (Ned obviously wearing a disguise) building Lego sculptures or just joking around. Sometimes he would have q and a sessions where he would answer questions from previous videos. But his most popular posts were the ones he did of the Avengers.
The thing is, the Avengers were used to seeing Peter around the tower, and later the compound with a camera, it's just they believed he was only filming for himself, that the videos weren't going anywhere, so naturally they would appear in Peters videos when he asked them too, or just let him film them around, doing their daily tasks. It was normal.
However, Peter was actually filming these to go onto his YouTube channel. Everyone loved them, especially the ones that showed the Avengers acting as a family, a highly dysfunctional family but a family all the same.
Coming up to 50 million subscribers, Peter decided he wanted to celebrate with a special video. So he decided he would do a much requested one.
Opens up to a black backdrop with spider-man sitting in a spinny chair with his back to the camera.
He turns the chair around slowly, fingers crossed in a true evil villain way, looking straight at the camera.
"Well, well, well, it seems you have come back for more?"
He quickly drops the sinister act, and is practically jumping up and down in his seat.
"Oh my god guys! 50 million subscribers?! That's unreal! I love you guys so so so much! In honour of reaching the 50 mil, I have decided that I will post a heavily requested video. This video? It's a q 'n' a with the avengers! You're welcome. Now first up, allow me to introduce Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America!"
Video cuts to spider-man now sitting slightly to the right of the camera whilst Steve Rogers now sits in a spare chair on the left.
"Hello Mr Rogers sir."
Steve looks at spider-man in a fatherly way, although everyone knows that out of all the Avengers, Tony Stark is 100% spider-man's father figure, if not his actual father.
"Just Steve kid"
Spider-man looks at Steve, blinks (how does the mask blink?!) Then looks down at his flashcards and begins to read the first question.
"Ok, Mr Steve sir, are you and Mr Bucky a couple?"
Steve chuckles before shaking his head. "No, we are not, just best friends and brothers in all but blood." Spider-man nods his head before asking another question.
It carries on like that for a while before spider-man asks one of the questions of his own 'must ask avengers' card.
"Mr Steve sir, what is your opinion on memes?"
At that Steve looks at spider-man as if he just asked him if he were an alien (true story, did happen once though).
"A what?"
"A meme."
Steve just blinks, shakes his head then walks off, deciding to go and search up a 'meme' as soon as possible.
Next the video cuts to Bruce Banner in place where Cap had been sitting prior.
"Ok Mr Banner,' spider-man begins, shuffling his cards, "who is your favourite Avenger?"
Bruce looks contemplative for a moment before replying, "My favourite Avenger would have to be either Thor or Spider-man."
Bruce smiles gently at spider-man who has gone silent. There's just an odd silence for a while before a choked sobbing sound comes from spider-man, then the camera cuts to the next scene.
Camera shows Natasha Romanoff now sat along with Clint Barton in the shot, with spider-man off shot.
"So, Mr Clint, мама паук," comes spider-man's voice from off screen, "what is your opinion on Nick Fury?"
The 2 spies blink, look at each other, then grin wickedly. Clint is the first to reply, "he's very...patchy." before cackling.
Natasha smirks, nodding along. Spider-man can also be heard snorting behind the screen.
"Ok мама паук, what's your favourite colour?"
After a little thinking time, Natasha quickly responds, "red and blue, after my паук." She smiles warmly at him before the camera cuts again.
This time the camera opens up to a scene outside. Tony Stark is relaxing by a pool with spider-man sitting next to him sipping a fruit juice.
"So, Mr Stark, who would win in a fight, Iron Man or Spider-man?"
Almost without any hesitation, Tony replies, "Spider-man, no questions asked." Spider-man's mask is slightly up so he can drink his juice, so the camera catches his grin and Tony's smile.
"Okay, bonus question, how old are you?" Tony glares at spider-man as spider-man is cackling his ass off.
"I refuse to answer the question."
The video cuts, this time opening up to spider-man back in front of the black backdrop with princess Shuri.
"We have a special guest, I know she's not an Avenger, but guys, it's Shuri!"
Shuri is then seen laughing at spider-man before they quickly get into the questions, however when a meme related question is brought up, there's no stopping them. They start recreating memes for the next 10 minutes, not a good idea when you have 2 tech geniuses, a superhuman, and access to some of the best labs in the world, second only to the labs in Wakanda.
Eventually the video comes to an end.
"Thanks guys for the 50 million! Remember, stay safe and stay sticky!"
Tweaking the video with Shuri's help, they quickly finished it and uploaded it to YouTube. Peter was so glad Shuri knew about his channel, it meant she could be more involved in the videos and help behind the scenes too.
He also knew that Pepper knew, but that she wouldn't say anything because she loved his videos.
The quality of the videos wasn't the best, and that's because he still used the second-hand camera May and Ben bought him all those years ago and he refused to film with anything else.
Peter didn't have many hobbies, but the ones he did, held a special place in his heart.
Authors note:
I like to imagine that Natasha sees Peter as a son and so along with Bucky, they taught him Russian, Tony taught him a little Italian, Clint taught him sign language, although I also think Peter learnt other languages by himself.
I used google translate for translations as I do not speak even a little Russian so the translations may be a bit off :P
Translations:
мама паук - mama spider
паук - baby spider
