Meanwhile, Danielle followed the sound and then came upon a line of ducks. She had to hold back a gasp. All of these ducks were slaves. They were all covered in soot, dirt, and mud. Wearing tattered, and thin clothes. To put it simply, they looked miserable.
"Work Camp 2 Ducks are to turn in. Work Camp 2 Ducks are to turn in." A guard bot said in it's cold, mechanical voice.
Then she noticed they were going inside an old building. 'Must be their shelter.' She thought. Silently, Danielle followed them as carefully as she could. When the cue of ducks were inside. Danielle spotted a window in the foundation of the building.
Murmurs could be heard inside, and Danielle cautiously made her way over to the window to peer in. This was a huge warehouse, and knowing how many survivors were inside might prove to be useful information to the Resistance. Her heart ached thinking about the number of ducklings that were a part of this prison...
Shaking the thought away, she searched inside and gasped at how many had been crammed into the space. She slowly began counting them, then she heard someone talking.
"I just heard from the Slave Master. We're going to be relocated in two weeks. And we'll be walking." Said an older drake. A lot of the ducks groaned at this.
Hearing this gave Danielle an idea. So she reached into her pocket and pulled out her little notebook. Quickly, she wrote down the information she had just gathered.
Date; Early Winter/07/1996 Work Camp 2 Ducks, relocated in two weeks. Unknown location.
With the information on hand, Danielle gazed at the crowd again. All those poor ducks... No one deserves to be treated this way. If only she could get them all out right here and now. Unfortunately, she didn't have a plan to do so. But Danielle had a prayer for them."We'll find a way to end Dragaunus, and free you all." Danielle, with a heavy heart, was about to get up and leave, when two of the drakes caught her eye.
One of them was a light-gold teenager, with a mop of mid length blonde hair on his head. And the other one was a young adult with his hair pushed back, minus the one feather standing. Even if his feathers were dirty, one with a keen eye can tell his feathers are white. ...And to her, he somehow looked very...familiar.
The shivering younger drake scooted closer to the older one, looking for warmth. And the latter just put an arm around the former.
"You okay?"
"Depends on how you define 'okay' Big Bro." He replied sarcastically.
'They're brothers?' Danielle wondered. Just for a moment, Danielle wished her own brother was here with her. 'No, no. Stay focused Angelwing.' Regaining her senses, she kept quiet as she listened.
The white, older duck rubbed his brother's arms to warm him up. The younger drake sighed. "Wildwing, how long do you think, until they separate us too?"
'Wildwing' was stunned at the question. The thought of being separated from his brother, just made his heart grow cold out of fear."Nosedive..."
"Those jerk-a-saurai already took Mom and Dad away. What if we're next?" 'Nosedive's' voice quivered a bit at the end, almost tearfully.
"We're gonna get out of this, Baby Bro,' Wildwing simply replied, hugging his brother to him. 'I know it."
The blonde drake shook his head, but didn't argue anymore. As the two brothers went to sleep, Danielle decided it was time to leave. She still had a mission and her comrades were waiting for her. But as she stood up, a thought came to her.
'Wildwing...Wait, isn't that the name of Canard's friend?' A memory of long ago flashed before her eyes, a time in college, with the popular Wildwing playing hockey.
Her eyes widened. That was him!
And his brother was there too. Then, Danielle had remembered seeing him hanging out with Wildwing during the college's big games, and now realized why. She looked back in the window for one more look. As the two brothers settled in for the night among the group of prisoners, Danielle frowned. She had to tell Canard!
Elsewhere in the city, Wally kept a vigil over Clapper while Greybeak looked around, but there wasn't a good trace of Danielle, aside from some faded footprints.
"Jeez...She's more trouble than Nosedive was…" He mumbled out of annoyance. For a civilian, Danielle sure is elusive. She really has been training with the Commander all the Puckworld soldiers, the Commander was one of the best out in the field. Even though said drake wasn't getting any younger. A groan was heard behind. Sound's like Clapper's up.
Clapper held his head as Wally helped him up. "Easy there Gooddrake. You okay?"
"Th-thank you.' The drake replied dizzily. 'Angelwing? W-where's Angelwing?"
"We were hoping you could tell us." Greybeak responded as he approached the other two males.
"I was gonna take her away from the shooting grounds. But when we came to a street, a hunter drone stunned me. Then you guys found me."
"Hmm...She must have lured the robots away." Greybeak surmised. Clapper looked worried. "Alone?"
"All right, we gotta back pedal," Wally stated. "She couldn't have gotten far!"
"Right. And when we do find her, I'm cuffing her to you," Greybeak agreed. Wally looked annoyed by that statement.
"Me? Why not you?!"
"Because it was my idea, that's why!"
"Uh-g-gentledrakes?' Said Clapper.'It's my fault Angelwing's missing. B-but I don't think-!"
Suddenly, they saw a shadow move across the wall. Wally stepped in front of Clapper, while Greybeak readied himself. "Who's there?"
The shadow stopped moving, then it whispered. "The games at the pond."
Greybeak, Wally, and Clapper let out a breath they had been holding. It was only the captain. "And the chicks are in the nest."
"At ease, soldiers," Canard said as he walked around the corner. Despite the words, however, he looked anything but at ease. "Did you find her?"
Wally started to shake his head, but before he could voice his next sentence, Canard cut him off.
"Do you have any leads on where she went?" Canard looked at them all as they equally shook their heads.
"We found some footprints, but the soil got drier where she was heading. So we lost them." Greybeak explained.
"This is unbelievable," Canard muttered. "She's a civilian. How do three drakes lose one civilian?!"
"I was knocked out," Gooddrake offered timidly, before shutting up at the fierce glare he got.
"And I'll make sure each and every one of you gets knocked out if you don't find her!"
This really annoyed Greybeak. As much as he wanted to find Danielle too, there was no need or time for that kind of talk. Despite being friends with Canard for years, his hissy fits don't get any less exasperating.
"Ugh! Just because your girlfriend always runs off, don't take it out on us." Greybeak spoke to him, very close to losing his patience.
Canard's feathers puffed up with anger as he growled. That's no way to talk to him! And how dare they not take her disappearance seriously?! "She's not my girlfriend! You guys weren't watching her! I can't leave her with any of you for five seconds!" He snapped in Greybeak's face.
"C'mon guys, we shouldn't-!" Wally was cut off when he felt something grab his shoulder, something alive. A surprised, (and slightly girly) shriek escapes his throat, and the gander jumps around. Then Wally whips out his puck blaster while Greybeak and Canard do the same. Then the figure hastily steps into the light, holding her hands up in a surrender motion. "Wait! It's just me!' Danielle exclaimed at first then spoke softly. 'Th-the games at the pond!"
