Beginning Notes:
This is by all means a very large passion project. This fic has been living rent free for the past 2ish months since I went back to college. I've never enjoyed Nighteye's character in any capacity, and while some fics do the character justice. I wanted to write my own version of him. Izuku having a 'resurrection' quirk has always been interesting to me and combining both Inko's and Miria's quirks together into something unique was a major priority.
All Might will be dense for a very long time, not to the point of unrealistic for the character, but he is dense at times. Mainly the beginning, but believably so. This is currently set up to be possible Kendou/Izuku, but that may not happen. I've always found her character interesting, something of an anchor or touchstone for Izuku. She would sort of ground his worries, fears, and anxiety's.
Anyway, feel free to comment on your own thoughts, I'm open to change.
Hopeful for updates every other week but being a passion project, every 2/3 weeks is realistic for the length of chapter wanted. Roughly 4/5k each with major story based chapters being upwards of 8/10k.
There were a lot of things 4-year-old Izuku understood. He understood that his best friend Kacchan had an amazing quirk, he understood that All Might was the number one hero, he understood that the sky was blue and that his mother deeply cared for him.
What he could not understand was why his father seemed so closed off. Uncle Might had always been so nice, and his mom had always-always shown him nothing but compassion and love.
His father on the other hand was very different. Izuku knew this, accepted it as fact even. But that didn't mean his father could be cold or uncaring to him. The man had never taken the boy seriously, thinking him only to be a child.
Which of course, Izuku was and he knew that. But such looks of shame and displeasure being cast his way didn't make him feel any better. Then he'd developed his quirk, and he still hadn't spared the boy a look. Thinking nothing of him other than being that of a spoiled brat.
So what if Izuku loved watching All Might, and adored the way his mother showered him in All Might's merchandise. It was one of the few things he wanted, and yet Mirai still couldn't see that his son just wanted to be like him.
Mirai didn't care, and certainly wasn't going to anytime soon. All Might needed him now more than ever; they were so-so close to finding All for One.
And maybe his son and wife suffered, many he didn't get to spend much time with them. So what? Far larger principles were at play, he didn't have time for family or for those he cared about. He was a rational person and knew what mattered more.
Then Toshinori got hurt, critically wounded and though the man was upset with Mirai, that didn't stop the hero from trying to help. He needed to keep his mentor safe and find a successor with his friend critically injured.
All the while, Izuku's home life deteriorated. His father was essentially absent and every time he fell under the man's gaze, he felt never ending pressure to be so much more than he really was. Izuku couldn't live up to the expectations the man placed on him, who could when the only thing Mirai was looking for was All Might's replacement?
Then… Then things got worse
It'd been a horrible, no good, rotten day and then. Then things got so, so much worse, Izuku's world crumbled before him as he watched the light of his mother's eyes fade. Hero's ushering the young greenette away from the scene as other heroes tried to take down the villain.
She'd died instantly, but that didn't matter-didn't even register for Izuku. His mother was gone, and he didn't know what to do now. He was alone, sure his father was still alive, but Izuku knew that didn't matter.
His dad had much more important and demanding work to do than taking care of his own son. He'd been away for a long time, saying something about Uncle Might being hurt in a big battle but that couldn't be, he'd only faced a B ranked villain in the last three months?
Izuku broke down, cried so dreadfully so as he wished for nothing more than his mother back. But, that wouldn't happen, wouldn't be possible. Right? Right?
His mind screamed at him; his fingers twitched as visions passed through his mind. All the different pasts shooting through him. How couldn't he have seen them? Why now, why must these come now.
He could have stopped it, could have prevented his own mother's death.
But he didn't, and there wasn't a way to fix that. Inko Sasaki was dead and Izuku couldn't bear to live with the fact that he could have prevented it. The images of her face and the blood that dripped ever so slowly dug into Izuku's mind.
Izuku's tears couldn't be calmed as he was taken away from the scene and thrusted into the hands of a paramedic to be checked over. They'd done their job to make sure the kid made it out alive but there wasn't much else they could do.
Izuku continued to cry and cry until the world blended into the background of life. Tears washing away the realms of reality as things only got worse from there…
Mirai Sasaki or better known as the pro hero Sir Nighteye was not having a good day. Things hadn't been good in a long time. He'd loved the early days under Toshinori where the two hadn't much to worry about.
But then he'd seen the flash in the man's eyes, the need to avenge his mentor. He'd not looked into the man's future, but he could feel his quirk screaming out for him to know what would happen.
Mirai respected his mentors' privacy and knew nothing would change the fate that was in store for All Might. He could see the future, but he could do nothing to stop it.
What broke Mirai, what forced him to form the hard exterior in which he wore didn't come until his son was three years old. Mirai's curiosity got the better of him and he needed to know what was in store for his son.
Miria wanted to look forth and see the wonderful future his son would have. The people he would befriend and the world in which he would change. Miria knew his boy was destined to change the world for the better, but he wanted to see it.
If only a small peek into the world his boy would change.
He shouldn't have, he knew he shouldn't have looked so far forward but he wanted to know exactly what his boy would be like. What he found broke him, tore him apart and ripped every bit of love out of his soul.
He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could do it he didn't stop to think if he should.
His son was not long for this world, Miria watched as he son took his own life. As tears fell from his face and fell from atop a building towards the hard surface below before everything went dark.
That was how his son's story went, how Izuku Sasaki's life ended. There was nothing Mirai Sasaki could do to stop it, his son's life would end by his own hands. Mirai cried for some time afterward, silent tears falling from his eyes as he accepted that his son wouldn't be a part of his life for long.
He couldn't-wouldn't force himself to get close with the boy. He'd only end up hurt in the long run and so the man shut himself off. Did his best not to address the boy, did his very best not to get close to the boy in any way.
He'd only be more heart broken when his son ultimately met his end.
Izuku hadn't seen his father in a very long time, since he was eight in fact. His father had sent him away to live with Masaru and Mitsuki Bakugo. Both childhood friends of Inko who Miria trusted to take care of the boy.
He just had so much else to deal with that he couldn't take care of Izuku himself. He couldn't even look at the boy without feeling the overwhelming pressure of guilt and anger. His wife was dead, and his son wasn't long for this world. Everything he'd worked so hard for would be taken away from him.
Mitsuki and Masaru were both nice to Izuku and took care of the boy as if he was one of their own. Of course, Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo had been close friends at one point in their lives. Izuku called the ashy blond Kacchan and Bakugo had called Izuku, Izu.
But that changed soon after Inko's passing. Kacchan was angry at the world. His auntie had been killed and Izuku hadn't helped her, hadn't stepped in with his quirk! He was supposed to see the future! How could something like this happen?
Katsuki and his friends/lackeys had come to call the boy Deku rather than that of Sasaki or Izu. The ashy blond had done his best to drag the boy through the mud. Calling him every derogatory name he could think of.
Izuku was worthless in the eyes of the blond, he couldn't even save his own mother. And so, the greenette once again felt as if he was nothing, undeserving of the love of others. His mother had died because of him, his best friend thought the worst of him and his own father didn't care about him.
Izuku didn't know how to deal with the thoughts that ran through his mind. It wasn't fair, wasn't right, or was it?
Was he really worthless, was Kacchan right about him? He couldn't save his mom, couldn't bring her back, and couldn't stop his own fate. Maybe everyone was right, maybe he wasn't worth loving after all.
Izuku walked into his homeroom class, the teacher looking to be in his mid to late 40's. Talking about the basics of Heroics and asking questions about what people thought was necessary for society going forward.
Intro to heroics was a mandatory class as per all middle schools in Japan. It was a standard class that took an in depth look into the basics of heroes. It was a good class in Izuku's opinion but there were some problems with the class. Well one larger problem in the form of one Katsuki Bakugo.
Izuku wanted nothing more than to be a hero, and to save people like he hadn't been able to do with his mom. She'd always encouraged him to be a hero like his father. But, now with her gone no one pushed him to be a hero.
And Izuku couldn't make the Bakugo's pay for his schooling and Miria was… Absent from his life.
The morning 'discussion board' as the teacher had called it, was there to help students express their own ideas. It also set the pace for the day ahead.
Izuku was writing in his notebook titled 'Quirk Analysis Notebook for the Future Number 6.' Izuku had already filled several other notebooks with information and just started on the newest one.
He'd taken up the notebooks as a way to cope with everything going on in his life. He wanted to be the very best a hero could be. Striving to be the very hero his mother hoped he would one day become.
"Hey look, that nerd is writing in his notebooks again." Kacchan looked over to see what the lackey was talking about.
"What the hell are you writing this time? You'll never be a hero. Cut the crap and stop trying to be a hero you damn nerd!" The angry blond stood from his desk and walked over towards the boy.
"What did I tell you last time Deku!"
"Not to-Not to try to be a hero?"
"NOT TO GET IN MY WAY, you useless extra." Kacchan tried to shove the boy.
But Izuku's body moved on its own, dodging the angry hands of his once best friend. His mind already choosing the best outcome. Though the boy was about to yell once more at Izuku he was stopped by his teacher's voice.
"It's time to start thinking about your futures. Now I would pass out some career aptitude tests but why bother. I know you all want to go to the hero track!" And with that the older man threw the aptitude test in the air. The students follow behind, using their quirks in a show of celebration.
'Anyone, who's anybody wants to be a hero. And that is no different for Aldera Junior High.'
"Yes, yes, you've got some very impressive quirks. But no quirk usage allowed on school grounds, get a hold of yourselves." Most of the students soon quieted.
"Hey teach, don't lump me in with this bunch of losers. I'm the real deal, this bunch will be lucky to end up as second-rate sidekicks to some busted D lister." Bakugo's face held a large grin as he looked at their teacher.
"You think you're better than us Katsuki!" Came the voice of the rest of the class.
"Hmm, you've got impressive test results, maybe you will get into..." The teacher paused for a second and looked at Kacchan's school of choice. "Yuuei's heroics course."
"What he applied to the hero course?" Some of the students asked, surprised by the teens' choice.
"That's like the number one school in the country!" Bakugo just smiled at the praise.
"I've got the test scores to back it up and I will end up better than even All Might himself!" Yelled the blond teen and once again the classes erupted into questions and thoughts.
"Oh yea, didn't you also want to go to Yuuei, Sasaki?" Asked the older teacher, and with that the smile fell from the ashy blond's face. Anger bubbled under his toothy grin.
"Damn it Deku! You're even worse than these damn rejects. You're a useless nobody who would only burden others. You think they'd choose you over me!? ANSWER ME DEKU!" Izuku looked up to the boy who was now in front of him.
"Of-of course not Kacchan. I wasn't trying to compete against you. You've got to believe me~ I just-It's just that I wanted to be a hero since I was little, and I may not have a powerful quirk, but I can still try my hardest…'' Izuku looked up to the blond before him.
With a murderous glint in his eyes, Bakugo smiled. "You'd die in the entrance exam you useless loser, just give up!"
"I don't know what you think you're doing Deku. But we're not done." Bakugo stood above the green headed boy, and two lackeys walked up behind him as well.
"What's that? His diary or something?" Asked one of them before snatching the quirk analysis book.
"Real funny guys, just give it back." He tried to plead with them but there was no chance of that happening. And as he tried to reach for the stolen notebook, fire sparked from the ash blond's hand, the notebook beginning to smolder as he smiled back at Izuku.
"Most show potential early on, people just look at them and know they're destined for great things. When I get into Yuuei from this trashy hero school, they'll talk about me and then they'll know I'm legit. The next big thing." To add insult to injury, Bakugo then threw the book out the open window.
"Here's a little bit of advice nerd. Don't even think of applying. Or else…" Izuku's jacket began to smolder when the ashy blond placed his hand on his shoulder. Burning the cloth jacket on contact.
The three boys took their leave soon after, heading to the door and smiling at the realization that the boy may have finally realized he was not meant to be a hero.
"You know if you really want to be a hero there might actually be another way? Just pray that you'll be born with a better quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building."
Anger flashed in Izuku's eyes, some would call it bloody murder other's would say the dying light of a dream that wasn't obtainable.
Only one person may have ever cared for the boy but that didn't mean he wasn't wanted, wasn't useless, wasn't worthy of being a hero. He was allowed to dream was he not. It was okay to try for something you don't believe in?
'But it's okay to dream is it not?' Izuku asked himself.
Soon after leaving Aldera Junior High for the day, Izuku made his way out to the small stream that ran past the school. Fetching his notebook that was drifting along as koi fish nibbled at the pages.
"Hey, don't eat that!" He tried to save the book he'd put so much time into. The book that'd he'd just started writing the newest information on Mont. lady and on the A ranked villain he'd seen earlier in the day.
'I have to keep smiling.' Izuku tried to reassure himself, everything was going to be okay. That just like Uncle Might he'd just have to keep smiling.
The greenette walked through a dark overpass, his left arm raised into the air to proclaim that he was here!
But as he tried to impersonate his childhood hero a dark figure casted over him. Green slim jumped at the poor boy, suffocating him, and claiming that. "It'll only hurt for a minute. You'll feel better soon!" The Slimy figure laughed at the boy's struggle.
'Can't breathe!' Izuku's mind yelled as the green slime made its way further down his throat. Suffocating him, the slim thanked him for being a hero.
"Hey, wake up!" Another light tap on his face.
"Hey, wake-"
The man paused looking down at the boy before him who'd finally begun to regain consciousness. "I thought I lost you there!" Came the man's voice, his large smile greeting the shell-shocked boy.
"Unc-All MIGHT!" Yelled the green haired boy, his face freezing in place as he looked at the blond man.
"Ahhh!" realization hit him, winding back against the dirt, recognizing the face before him. He couldn't believe it, his uncle stood before him dressed in nothing but shorts and a white shirt.
"Well, it looks like you're moving around alright. Sorry about that back there I didn't mean to get you caught up in my justicing" Came the heroic man's voice as he gave a hearty laugh.
"I've captured the evil doer in this bottle!" The man proclaimed as he thrusted forth a bottle of the captured slim man.
"Well I have to get this guy to the police so they can book him. See you around young man." Izuku's mind raced. He had to know.
But before Izuku could ask his question the man jumped away. The boy's reflexes hit, visions flashing through his mind as he latched onto the man's legs. "Hey! What are you doing young man! Please let go of my leg!"
"I-I can't All Might sir!" Izuku yelled out as the two flew through the air over the cityscape. Izuku would fall to his death if he let go, why didn't Uncle Might think of that?
All Might soon realized his own mistake and landed on a tall building overlooking Musutafu. Izuku still wanted to know the answer to his question. Still needed to know if one of the adults in his life believed in him.
"All Might sir, please I have to kn-" Izuku continued to mumble as steam rose from the man's torso, his time was running out.
"Anyway, I just need to know if-" Toshnori's form receded into the hollow man he truly was. 'Crap' Was all the man could think at the time.
Izuku finally looked up from his mumbling session that'd come more and more common since his mother's passing. So lost in thought about every possible future that he couldn't even think straight most of the time.
"Wh-WHAT HAPPEN TO ALL MIGHT AND WHO ARE YOU!" Izuku yelled as the hollow form of All Might stood before him, the smoke finally clearing from his form.
"Ah young man, I am All Might! But I-I was hurt during a-"
"There's no way you could be All Might!" Izuku wanted to protest, he knew what his uncle looked like.
"No, I assure you it is the truth. I was hurt in a battle against a villain that left me permanently injured. My stomach was removed, and several other organs damaged because of it." Izuku's mind froze, his uncle had been hurt? When had this happened, he'd only fought A and B ranked villains for the last few years and-
"I really must be going young man, please do not share what you have seen today with anyone. I must get that sludge villain to the police." All Might went to make his way to the staircase adjacent to him.
"Wait, I need to know! Can someone without a useful quirk be a hero! I have a quirk that allows me to change fate. Could I ever be a hero like you Sir?" The man turned around looking at the boy now before him.
"The pressure is high, young man, and this job isn't easy. Pro heroes are always risking their lives, some villains just can't be beaten without real power so honestly. No, I don't think you can become a hero without a quirk that helps you physically. Unless it can help you in some larger way then there is no way you can be a hero. Find something obtainable, like a police officer or detective if you want to help. " All Might soon took his leave; leaving Izuku and the cherry blossoms by their lonesome.
"I'm-I'm *hic I really am just a burden." Izuku's eyes began to water, he couldn't do this anymore.
Izuku's mind and feet began to work separately from one another. His mind was trying to understand why so-so many people looked down upon him. Thought of him as less than others.
His father hadn't cared for him for a long time, Kacchan, his childhood best friend had turned the staff and students against him, and now even uncle Might didn't believe he was capable of being a hero.
Izuku knew that he could be a hero, that no one was going to prevent him from doing so but to be told that one couldn't, that he wasn't worth the time and effort to train. That he was useless, a Deku. Couldn't help but be stuck within his mind.
Before the greenette knew it, he stood at the edge of the building in which his uncle had left him. The city streets below buzzing with people going about their day. His mind, once again showing paths of possible futures.
But this time-this time he didn't care, didn't look ahead. And for that he would also pay the price.
"I'm useless, who would even miss me if I was gone. The Bakugo's take care of me but that's out of respect for mom, father never cared about me and Kac-Bakugo sees me as nothing. What do I have to live for?"
Tears fell from the boy's eyes as he looked down upon the people below. As they walked about their normal day, not caring for the boy who stood above them. His life wasn't worth living, wasn't worth trying to save. No one cared, not even uncle Might had tried to reassure him of his dreams.
"If-if even All Might doesn't think I can be a hero, why even try?"
And so, as the saddened boy looked over the city below, his mind came to one bittersweet conclusion. 'Why should I have lived?'
His life wasn't worth living, he'd let his own mother die. His quirk hadn't saved her, the ability to change the future at one's own whims didn't save his mother.
Why would it save his own?
Izuku looked down once more, his feet ever so close to the edge and he sighed. This was it, his life all came to this very moment. He could have been a hero, could have lived happily, could have had friends, and loved ones who cared deeply for him. But instead, here he was about to do the unthinkable.
Izuku Sasaki's story was supposed to end here, Sir Nighteyes visions had predicted it so, having seen this fate 10 years prior.
And yet, it doesn't. Sasaki's story only begins here, with the harshest of times finally ending at this very moment.
There will be friends, enemies, and families formed but first he must pull upon the strings of fate to reverse the clock. To stop an impending war upon which the likes the world had never seen.
But now, at this very moment as the boy's body fell to the harsh ground below everything went dark.
Ending Notes:
I just wanted to say thank you for reading, if there's any questions please leave a comment.
Just to clear a few things that may have some questions surrounding them. All Might doesn't recognize Izuku because he hasn't seen the boy since he was 3/4. Mainly due to his search for All for One and then subsequent injury. Bakugo doesn't like weak links, and blames Inko's death on Izuku. He doesn't know how to think, feel, or diffuse those thoughts and so turned to hurting the thing that took away his Aunt.
