Arch 1: The Breaking Chains
Chapter 1: Mindful Invader
Glistening sun pierced through the kitchen window. The blue sky whipped past across the far horizon. Rays of light danced along the hardwood floor. A glistening knife swiftly cut through plump vegetables on-top a cutting board. The feminine figure, her hand skillfully wielding the blade, stood against the light. Her dusky silver hair fell gracefully down her waist. Dark purple skin gave contrast to the fading daylight.
"Mommy, I want to go play with the other kids!" a small child's voice squeaked out from behind the woman. Frilly clothes outstretched from the small girl's body. Her well-tanned skin sat well with her blonde hair. Long ears pierced out from her draping hair as her blue eyes glanced up on the woman.
A sweet smile formed along the woman's face. Sylvanas glanced down upon her child. Her red eyes glistened gently in response. "Kathy, " Sylvanas sighed, her free hand sliding through Kathy's hair, "the outskirts of the city are no place for a child to be playing." Her stern voice reverberated through the quiet home.
Kathy's lips scowled. Her little arms crossed tightly around her chest with a huff. "But mom! The other kids get to play out there! Why can't I?" She whined. A stomp echoed off the floor.
Sylvanas stood back up. Her attention turned back towards the food. "Because I said so, child." She replied.
A second huff came from Kathy's mouth. Her little blue eyes boring holes into the floor next to her mom's feet. The very tips of her ears turned downwards. A glancing look from Sylvanas caught her daughter throwing an attitude. Feelings of joy and love trickled into her heart. "Very well." She started with a smile. "How about we wait until your father gets home, and then we all go to the park after dinner?"
'Father? That would mean I have a husband? I have no such thing' Sylvanas thought. A link escaped from the feminine figure standing there preparing food. Whips of ghastly smoke formed around the body. Sylvanas, as her current self, floated behind the doppelganger before her. 'This must be a rare dream' she concluded. Disgust and jealousy flared behind her glowing red eyes. Darkness coiled its icy grip further around her heart.
"Fine~~" Kathy replied. A smirk rolled across her face. "Then, I'm going to play with my toys while I wait!"
"Hold on one moment, young lady." The dream Sylvanas replied. She turned her body towards the young girl. "Say hello to your baby sibling before you go." The lips on Dream Sylvanas' face curled up into a loving smile.
'Wait, baby sibling? Am I pregnant?' Sylvanas scoffed inside her soul. Her undead husk, housing children, further increased the escaping link. She watched as Kathy reached up and rubbed her mother's protruding stomach.
A door click echoed off in the distance. "I'm home!" a tired, yet joyful voice called out.
Kathy's attention snapped towards the distance, far off from Sylvanas' view. "Daddy!" She chirped. Her little feet stepped hard on the floor as she ran off.
'Finally, time to see this so called "husband"' Sylvanas thought. A cold chuckle escaped her hauntingly beautiful mouth. Her vision shifted, attempting to follow the young girl. Chains stopped her head in its tracks. Sylvanas struggled to see the welcomed intruder. 'What the void is this?!' she angrily yelled.
Dream Sylvanas turned her head back towards the preparing dinner. A warm smile drifted across her face. "You're back awfully late." She responded to the voice.
'Am I trapped to look where my dream body looks?!' Sylvanas roared. Her muscled fought against the enveloping chains. The chains pulled her ghostly form closer towards her doppleganger. Grunts seeped through her grit teeth as she fought. 'No, don't drag me back inside!'
The chains sucked the ghastly form of Sylvanas back into her dream body. Dark whisp like tails dissipated into the air. The setting sun shone brightly through the window. "Yeah, I enjoy being a guard instructor but not on days like today." The male voice said.
Sylvanas could feel two arm wrap gently around her waist. 'Where do you think you are placing your arms?!' She tried to yell. Her inner voice stopped on the boundary of flesh. "So you had a bad day, then?" Dream Sylvanas laughed. Her hand lovingly fell upon the husband's arm.
"Well," the voice started, "every day is a bad day, Sylvanas. Because I'm away from you." The seductive voice tickled Sylanas' ears. Chills blasted up her ghostly spine as the unknown husband kissed her pointy ear.
Heat rushed towards Sylvanas' cheeks. Her hand playfully swatted at the man behind her. Her blush intensified against the sun's rays. "You are as corny as ever-" she spoke, her head turning towards the person behind her.
A loud scream shattered the still night air in Tourghast. The very air rambled from the shock. Far off echoes continued the haunting sound. Cold breath forced out from Sylvanas' lungs. Her glowing eyes visibly shaken. Stillness settled in around the dark room. "What in the void was that nightmare?!" she hissed. Her cold hand placed firmly on her forehead.
The sound of footsteps gradually grew from behind her closed doors. "My lady, are you under attack?!" a gruff voice called out in worry.
Annoyance dripped from inside her veins. "I am fine." She stated. Her legs dropped off the slab of rock she laid upon. Dusky silver hair fell along her waist. The click of her boots bounced off her cold walls. 'I haven't had a dream in ages…' she thought.
"My lady?" The voice called out again.
A sigh seeped through her grit teeth. Anger rained into the depths of her mind. "What is the current state of the weapon?" She demanded. Her hair swayed as she made her way to the room doors.
"The weapon is currently in its...chambers, as you ordered!" The voice replied. His tone dipping in the middle of his report.
"Is he currently under the Jailer's control?" She asked. Her anger seethed deep into her words.
"No, my Lady. He is currently unchained."
"Good, you may leave now." She ordered.
The trailing sound of metal on ground soon followed. Sylvanas stood close to her room door. Her forehead leaned against the cold metal. Twisted emotions rushed through her mind as if to control her very being. The sound of grit teeth leaked from her tightly closed lips. Her hand brazenly flung the door open as she stormed down the corridor.
Her glowing red eyes illuminated the dark halls before her. Anger scorched its way into each fiber of her eyes, only intensifying their glow. 'How dare my mind give me such an awful dream' she scowled inside her cold heart. Each passing turn shortened her travel to her desired destination.
A flicker of light broke free of the darkness around the last bend. Sylvanas' eyes laid upon the cage-like bedroom before her. The dim light presented the figure of her rage-driven desire. Thick white-blonde hair hung over his face. His hands firmly pressed against his forehead. Agony appeared to shadow his very being. 'I suppose his first mission is hitting him hard' she inwardly chuckled.
"Does the boy-king feel such sorrow for simply stealing a key?" Sylvanas asked, her voice breaking the silent night air.
Anduin shifted his head against his fists. His tired eyes merely glancing up upon his kidnapper. Their once ocean deep blue a mere shadow of their former self. "What do you want, Sylvanas?" He mustered. His dry voice struggling to escape his throat.
A scowl formed on Sylvanas' face. "Your last performance wasn't up to par." She replied. Her icy words chilled the very air between them.
"What do you mean?' Anduin asked. The exhaustion of his being rattled his voice. Hair fell back along his shoulders. His head landed on the cold stone wall behind him as a lifeless sigh escaped his lungs.
"You hesitated after you stole the key from the Archon, boy-king." Sylvanas asserted. Her eyes glaring down on the young king. A cold, lifeless, chill breezed through the cage bars.
Anduin glanced up. A sense of shock ran through his being before disappearing as fast as it came. "How did….spies." He sighed. The muscles in his arms twitched. Hope seemed to drain out from his soul. A once bright light seemed to now flicker behind his tired eyes. The floor grasped his now descending glances.
A chuckle seeped through Sylvanas' lips. "Of course, boy! What, did you think that the once powerful Warchief had lost all her reasoning?" Spite reached into her heart as she spoke. The glow of her eyes gradually increased. Her cold voice echoing off the small space. "I have never, and I will never, fully trust anybody. My spies watched you from the moment the Jailer made you leave this place on your mission. Nothing escapes my eyes!"
A small grin swiftly appeared on Anduin's tired face. The dark shadows gave cover to his internal laughter. "If nothing escapes your eyes, Lady Windrunner, then surely you know the Jailer's plan?" His voice sank with each word.
Sylvanas stepped forward. Her teeth firmly grit behind her bewitching smile. "I know the Jailer's plan, little lion, as we developed this plan together."
"If you know his plan so well, then why have I never been told all the details?" Anduin asked. His head leaned back against the wall behind him. His ragged hair draped before his face.
"Oh little boy," Sylvanas smirked as her hands raised in a shrug, "had you been more willing to join us, perhaps you would have been made aware. But -" she paused. The empty weight pulled the air around them. Her hand reached out, inching closer to Anduin. A soft tingle wiggled through Anduin's skin. Sylvanas' hand gently brushed the hair on his face away. "You made this choice, not me."
Her stunning face stood mere inches away from his own. His lifeless eyes gazed into her deep red. The beating sound of his heart slowly quickened. Saliva forcefully made its way down his throat. "I made this choice?" He questioned. His dry voice barely audible.
A dark, yet charming grin descended upon Sylvanas' lips. Her eyes meeting with his. A rough sound seeped into the air between them as she gently dragged her finger through Anduin's growing beard. "Yes, this was your choice." Her voice soft yet cold.
"That's not how I remember things going." Anduin responded. His eyes shifted away from Sylvanas'. Facial hair broke free from the Banshee Queen's finger.
Twinges of anger fluctuated inside of Sylvanas' mind. Her elegant figure straightened as she stepped back towards the door of the cage-like bedroom. The palm of her hand slid softly across the metal bar. Her face turned back towards the young king. "The choice remains yours, little lion." She spoke before her heels turned and she left the room.
Anduin's eyes watched the fleeting feminine figure. A quiet sigh left his lungs. The flickering candle light stood alone in the darkness. Pressure from his forehead fell to his clenched fists. "An impossible nightmare…" he whispered, his voice becoming swallowed by the dark night.
