They ran into problems very quickly.
Percy had turned up the radio, so Cage the Elephant's "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" filled the air. Now, as previously mentioned, Percy looked 14. So when they passed a police officer on a motorcycle, they were forced to pull over. The fact that he was going 90 in a 65 speed limit zone, probably didn't help.
Percy turned down the music as the police officer walked over to the car.
"You know why I pulled you over?"
"Well, obviously you felt the need to exercise your limited powers and punish me for ignoring the speed limit. It's okay, I understand. I like to punish people too. Or at least, I used to."
"License and registration." The cop said, internally smirking, thinking he had cornered the Devil.
"Coming right up." Percy said, and pulled out the money he had gotten from his safe last chapter. He started flipping bills as if counting them.
"Are you trying to bribe me, sir?"
"Yes, of course." Percy said, laughing a bit. He held up about $500 dollars. The cop looked at it confused. "Is that not enough? Take more, it's only money."
"It's against the law, sir."
"You people are funny about your laws, aren't you? You break the law sometimes, don't you?"
The cop was quiet for a couple of seconds. "Sometimes. I'll put my siren on and drive really fast, for no reason at all. Just because I can."
"Right! Why wouldn't you? It's fun! Feels good to get away with something, doesn't it!?"
"Yeah!" His smile faded.
"It's okay officer, people like to tell me things, as deep, dark, naughty, little desires on their mind. It's a gift. Must be something about this face. The attempts to keep them on you. Well, what are you waiting for- permission?! Go on take it!" He said, shaking the money. "Buy yourself something pretty, you deserve it! If you don't mind, I really must be on my way."
"Oh, yeah! Of course. Hey, have a nice day." The cop said, walking back to his motorcycle.
"You too, officer." He said. Then mumbled quieter. "You too."
Percy drove off, getting back on the highway.
Thalia and Bianca looked at Percy in surprise. "How did you do that?!" Bianca asked.
"I'm the Devil. I could get away with murder if I wanted to."
Zoë smacked his arm. Percy looked at her. "What? I said if I wanted to."
Zoë shook her head. Thalia, Bianca, and Grover looked on with confused expressions. But, they were quickly distracted by the helicopter that started following them. Percy got off of the highway, made 4 right turns around a McDonalds, and got back on the highway.
"What was that about?" Thalia said.
"I was checking to see if they were following us. And they are. They probably saw us leave the museums. They also probably know our car."
They drove for a couple more minutes, before Bianca yelled out, "There!"
Percy crossed 2 lanes of traffic to park at a subway station. Percy opened his backpack and the car shrunk. Percy picked it up and placed it in his backpack. They bought tickets with some of Percy's money, and boarded. In a couple of minutes, they were headed southbound, hoping the helicopter didn't follow them.
"Damn, Bianca, that was smart, using the subway." Grover said.
"Thank you. I saw it last summer when Nico and I were here. We were surprised, because it looked really new."
"New? But it looked a decade old, at the least." Grover said, frowning.
"I guess. But trust me, there was no subway when we lived here as little kids."
Thalia sat forward. "Wait a minute. No subway? None at all?"
Bianca nodded.
Zoë turned to Bianca. "How long ago-" She was interrupted by the sound of helicopter blades.
"We need to change trains." Percy said.
They did. Twice. No one had any clue about where they were headed, but no one cared. Their only concern was getting away from the helicopter. Percy would have shot it down, but where was the fun in that?
LINE BREAK
Thalia woke up when the train stopped moving. People were getting off of the train. A woman's voice came over the intercom. "This is the end of the line."
She looked over at Percy, who had Zoë's head on his shoulder. Grover walked up next to her. Bianca came up to her other side. "We are soo talking about this later." Thalia said.
They woke up the rulers of Hell, and wandered into a railway yard. They hoped to see another train, but nope. They were all freight cars and covered in snow. By now, everyone else was gone.
They wandered until they found a homeless man standing at a trash can. He seemed to be trying to light a fire, but his lighter kept flaming out, probably due to the wind. The questers walked up to him.
Percy summoned some fire onto his finger and put it on the paper. The whole trash can lit up, instantly warming up everyone. Thalia looked at Percy incredulously. "Well, this is great. Why didn't you do that earlier?"
"Slipped my mind. Besides, I like the cold. Nice change from Hell."
They stood there, warming themselves up, or in Percy's case, summoning a pack of cigarettes, lighting one, and putting it in his mouth.
"So, what do we do now? Call Chiron?"
"No. They can't help us now. It's all on us. " Zoë said.
Percy stomped out his cig. Just in time for the homeless man to speak up. "You know, you're never completely without friends. You kids need a ride west?"
"Yes, do you know one?" Bianca asked.
The homeless man just pointed in a direction. They looked at where he was pointing. A new looking freight train was there, gleaming. It was a triple decker car carrying train. It had steel mesh curtains, and every spot was filled with a luxury car.
They turned back to the guy, but he was gone. And he took the fire. Greedy bastard.
Bianca crashed in a Lexus, while Zoë joined her, but didn't fall asleep. Grover pretended he was in a Mario Kart race while behind the wheel of a Lamborghini, at last, Percy thinks. He was pretty sure that's what the cries of a blue shell were about. Thalia took up residence in a Mercedes SLK. Percy chose a BMW.
Percy sat in the driver's seat, thinking about how things were going back in Hell. While he had no desire to return, he had wondered what was happening with his prolonged stay on Earth. Usually, he was there for a month at most, but this is 14 years!
The passenger door opened, bringing Percy out of his own mind. In stepped Zoë, looking every bit of a queen as always. She had that princess look to her, and carried her in the way of a royal would, commanding respect. "Hello." She said.
"Hey, Maze."
"What are you doing?"
"Thinking. You know, what's happening back in Hell due to our absence."
"Mm." She said.
"Oh, by the way-" Percy said, as he reached into the backseat. He pulled out his backpack, and opened it. He pulled out the wine he had bought. He pulled out 2 wine glasses he had forgotten he put in there back during the in-between of the summer and that rescue operation. "- I bought a little something. You know, to celebrate."
He poured some in the glasses before handing one to Zoë. "Celebrate what?"
"I don't know. How about... " He thought for a minute. "Finally reuniting after 2 millennia?"
"Didn't we do that at the bar, though?"
"True, but, again, it's been 2,000 years."
Zoë smiled. "Yeah, alright."
They toasted, before drinking. They finished the whole bottle, before Zoë climbed over the armrest/compartment thing, and straddled Percy. She snuggled into his chest. Percy smiled as he felt some vibrations on his chest, as Zoë muttered, "I love you."
"I love you too, Zoë."
A/N. Alright, another chapter down. So, that cop scene was from the show, obviously. Everything that's good in this story is stuff I've taken from the show.
I have decided to start incorporating some of Lucifer's powers from the comics into this. I think it'll definitely make some interesting story points later on, as well add to Percy's backstory, since we only know the basics. I have never read the comics, so I'm using the Wiki for powers and stuff. If I get something wrong, please let me know.
Also, I think I'm getting better at incorporating relationships into this. Remember in We Are Venom, Percy and Thalia were couply for like a chapter, then there was like no fluff afterward. I'm trying to remedy that.
Also, also, remember that Perlia story I thought of, the one where Percy sees Thalia's spirit? Yeah well, I've been working on that a little bit more. That's pretty much why this chapter is coming out a little later as opposed to last week's crazy updating. It's my longest one shot, and I'm maybe ⅔'s done, ½? I don't know. But yeah. I'm also working on that Perzoë soulmate AU, but that's pretty much on the backburner.
As always, I love hearing your thoughts. It's fun reading and responding!
