"How much farther?" Thalia asked.
"Not too much." Percy said.
They were near the top, and about to enter the garden of the Hesperides. Zoë was looking a little nervous. Her face steeled up. She had her hands behind her back. She seemed to be fiddling with something. One look made Percy realize it was her crown.
When Zoë first was crowned Queen of Hell, Percy made her a crown. She almost never wore it, but here it was in her hands. It was a wreath of bones, lit ablaze. On the front was a ruby.
They entered the garden. It was teeming with plant life, and a couple of animals. And of course, it wouldn't be complete without a 100 headed dragon with breath able to kill an entire city. All in all, it reminded Percy of the garden of Eden.
In the middle of the garden, was a giant tree with golden apples growing on it. Actually, looking back on it, Percy was pretty sure that this was the garden of Eden, just repurposed for the Hesperides. Yeah, because there was the spot where he gave Eve that apple.
The garden brought mixed feelings to Percy. One one hand, he used to tend to this garden when he was bored. On the other, his wife was betrayed here.
In front of the questers, the shadows moved. They rose, and shimmered into 4 young women. They looked a lot like Zoë. Though, not as dangerous. Zoë had this look in her eyes that just screamed that she could fuck you up. And Percy loved it. But her sisters, they just looked like they could maybe punch you, and that was it.
"Sisters." Zoë said,
"We do not see a sister here." One of the Hesperides said. "Just a satyr, 2 half-bloods and a hunter of Artemis."
Percy decided to intervene. "Pretty sure we have, a satyr, a half blood, a demon, who just also happens to be the Queen of Hell, and a fallen archangel." He said, pointing to each of them respectively.
They looked at Zoë, unbelieving. She just smirked and put her crown on her head. Then she shrugged, like the absolute Queen she was.
"Father will kill you all, regardless. I mean, how can that one even fight? He's wearing a suit!"
Percy scoffed. "I happen to fight just fine in a suit. Besides, it's already ripped. Bloody Nemean Lion." He muttered the last part to himself, though they all heard him.
The Hesperides swiftly shuffled to the side, granting them access. Their 'sister' was in a far higher spot of power than when she left. Talk about promotion of a lifetime. And this 'archangel' was clearly a threat, maybe much more than their father worried he was.
They walked out of the garden to the top of the mountain. Black walls rose up from the ground. Rubble would levitate and fill in gaps that were missing. The original palace of the titans was slowly rebuilding itself.
"What's going on?" Thalia asked.
"Othrys. It's rebuilding itself. The Titan's palace."
"How is it here?"
"It moves, just like everything else." Zoë explained. "But the fact that it's here, that's not good."
"Why?"
"Because this is the mountain where Atlas. Where he holds- Where he used to hold the sky."
Thalia was quiet after that, and they finished the trek up the mountain. Artemis was trapped under a giant rounded cone of clouds and dark lightning. Her legs had been bound with celestial bronze chains.
"My lady!" Zoë said.
"Leave Zoë, it's a trap!" Artemis said, voice strained.
Zoë's face steeled. "We're getting you out of here."
"Ah, how touching!" A voice boomed from behind them.
They turned to see Atlas wearing a brown silk suit. Luke was right beside him. Before he could say anything, Percy spoke up. "What are you wearing? Did you order that thing off of Amazon?! It looks cheaper than the loaf of bread I bought with coupons!"
"Silence demigod! Insolent child." Atlas growled.
Percy looked at Zoë, who nodded. Percy turned to Thalia and Grover. "You guys handle Luke."
"What are you to do?" Thalia asked.
Percy turned to Artemis who was under the sky. "To tell a guy to knock it off."
Thalia looked confused but nodded regardless.
Percy walked up to Artemis. "Alright, up. This is undignified."
"What do you think you're playing at, male?" She asked, scorn present in her voice.
"I'm rescuing you, duh. But I'm gonna need the sky." Percy said, before taking out Riptide and slashing the chains in half. Percy crouched down, put his hands on the sky, and stood up.
He spread his wings, and flew up, the sky in his hands. He looked like an off brand Superman. He flew faster than the eye could see, and the only evidence he was there was a huge clap of thunder that sounded from above them.
Zoë charged at her father, knowing what Percy was doing. He was gifting her revenge. With the sky no longer needing someone to hold it (If Percy was successful), Zoë could kill her father without worries.
She drew her demon blades and swiped at her father's leg. As he towered over her, taking out his legs would make it easy to kill him. Like how the rebels took out the AT-At's in The Empire Strikes Back. Unlucky, he dodged. He deflected with a strike of his spear.
While she does that, let's check in with our Devil. And he's... in a fistfight with the primordial of the sky. Percy rolled under Ouranos' legs, and gave him a kick in the back. He was far too honorable to crotch shot him. Ouranos fell, and Percy pinned him down.
"You got to let her go man. She won't love you again." Percy said.
Ouranos was close to tears. "I just want her back."
"She's moved on dude. You have to too."
Ouranos was crying now. Percy was comforting him. Once Ouranos finished, Percy made sure he was okay, before leaving him. He flew back down, where he saw Zoë fighting Atlas.
She flipped over him, and wrapped her legs around his neck. She leaned back, putting him off balance and making him fall to the ground. Zoë took her knives and slid them across his neck. Ichor splattered the grass.
"You're going to die a slow and painful death. You're welcome, you abusive dick." Zoë whispered harshly in his ear.
She got up to check on Artemis, when a blade pierced her body. Straight through her back to her stomach. Behind her, Atlas had just enough strength to stab her, and deliver some final words.
"If I die, so do you." He said, before flickering in and out of existence, fading.
Percy's eyes widened. He looked at his dying wife, then at a certain tree. His face slowly burned away, revealing the Devil in all his hellish power. He spread his now leather wings, and flew at the golden apple tree.
Of course he was stopped by Ladon, the tree's guardian. Percy didn't have time to tolerate the dragon's bullshit. He pulled out Riptide, and slashed off all but one of Ladon's heads. Then for extra measure, punched him so hard, the dragon flew and crashed into one of Orthy's walls, making it crumble to nothing but dust.
In Percy's hand, barely noticed by Percy, Riptide began to spark, a flame ignited on the sword. Percy ignored it for now, and focused on his task. He pulled one of the apples off of the tree, and walked back to his wife.
This was terrifying to Artemis and pretty much everyone that wasn't Zoë. You had the Devil, with his wings spread, while on fire. A golden apple clutched in his hand. The most furious expression on his face, promising death and utter torment for any who stood in his way. Case in point, Ladon, who was knocked out and bleeding under a layer of dust.
Thalia had managed to corner Luke while this happened. She looked at her former brother in all but blood. "Why? Why's you do it?"
"The Devil, he made me do it." Luke said, looking at the display of power as a scapegoat. Kronos saw it as a way to build distrust within the questers.
Thalia shook her head, before thrusting her spear at Luke. He dodged and fell off of the cliff, landing on the ground below. She turned to the scene behind her.
Percy was leaning at Zoë's feet, the apple held out. It was like a recreation of the apple with Eve, but instead of the intent to harm, this had the intent to heal. Same garden, same type of apple. It was poetic.
"Eat it." Percy said softly.
Zoë slowly opened her mouth and let Percy put the apple in her mouth. She took a bite, regaining a little strength. She reached out and grabbed it, eating it without help. She finished the whole thing, leaving just the core.
Percy took that and burned it. While he did so, his face returned to normal.
Zoë looked at her relieved husband. "You know I just would've reformed, right?"
Percy smiled. "Reforming hurts like a bitch. Thought I would save my wife from having to endure that."
Zoë grinned, before jumping into Percy's lap, then pinning him down. Artemis watched as her lieutenant pinned down a guy, made out with him, and grinded him. It wasn't like she could say he was forcing himself on her, Zoë was very clearly in a topping mood.
"You're fucking me later." Zoë whispered. It was still loud enough for Artemis to hear. So, Artemis passed out.
"I thought I said I would take you out on a date first. When the quest was over." Percy said slyly.
"Then you better make it quick."
They had to wait 30 minutes for Artemis to wake up, so she could take them to the council meeting. It was like they could miss it, Zeus requested Percy's presence. So she drove them to Olympus, while the married couple cuddled in the back of the chariot.
Artemis parked outside the Throne Room. They walked in, only to see the gods bickering. Artemis took her spot on her throne, while the questers stood on the meeting.
The bickering finally died down, and Zeus called the meeting to a start. "I guess 1st things 1st, my brother here, has sir4ed a Devil spawn!"
Percy took offence, as he hasn't had any 'spawn'. And the fact that they would call it a spawn, as if it wasn't a living being. "I'm sorry, I'm not a "Spawn". I'm the Devil himself!"
Zeus didn't look surprised. "Even better! Your son is Satan." he said, turning to Poseidon.
"And?"
"And?! HE'S THE DEVIL! EVIL-INCARNATE! What part of that do you not understand. And with the prophecy-"
Percy had been fed up at this point. "Alright. If that's what you think of me, then I'll get out of your old graying hair."
Percy looked at Zoë, who nodded slightly. He wrapped his arms around her, and with the sound of flapping wings, the 2 vanished.
A/N. Alright! Another chapter done. Was this my favorite chapter to write so far? Hell yes!
Also, in case you didn't see my announcement, I'm actually ending Arc 3 next chapter. I had forgotten that I had some stuff planned that would set up Arc 4. But for sure, next chapter.
Thoughts?
