Be Careful What You Wish For
Ron was used to being overlooked. In a family with five older brothers, each of them brilliant at something, he was often ignored or dismissed as ordinary. As even less than ordinary sometimes.
When Ginny was born, the precious baby girl, Ron accepted that he'd never be special.
He realised his lot in life was to be invisible.
And then he took a train to Hogwarts and made friends with the most famous boy in their world, and being invisible became impossible.
…
Seven years after that fateful train ride, Ron Weasley was one of the most known faces in the Wizarding World.
He hated it.
Never had he thought that he'd miss being able to fade into a crowd, but he truly did. He wanted the invisibility back, because even going to Diagon Alley for a little shopping became a three hour trip in which he'd either be bugged about helping Harry defeat Voldemort, or he'd be mobbed by paparazzi, looking for a cheap quote to turn into a scandal.
He couldn't believe he'd ever been jealous of Harry for this life.
…
…
"I can see why you moved into the Muggle world," Ron said, when he visited Harry at his new cottage, set out in the winding country roads of Cornwall.
Harry snorted. "I told you that you're free to move in. Apparating kinda takes the need for being close to anywhere away."
Ron nodded and then sighed. "Hermione wants us to find somewhere close to the Wizarding World. She said something about immersing ourselves in both worlds, but I kinda switched off honestly. You know what she's like when she gets into lecture mode."
Harry laughed. "You're right, I do. You're probably supposed to listen more now that you're dating, mate."
"Small print," Ron replied, rolling his eyes.
…
For someone that was used to being overlooked, Ron hated that he no longer was. All his life he'd craved attention, but now he had it, he realised that the old proverb was true.
Be careful what you wish for.
