Same night Rabb House
McLean Va
Mac took Harm into her loving embrace, holding him close to her as he sob; "God Sarah... how am I going to tell that little boy, his mother is gone? I don't even know how to began?"
Still holding him close to her; "Think about how your own mother told you about your father."
"Mom didn't tell me ; Grams did. Mom was upset, I didn't know why, Grams is the one took me aside and explained to me that my dad wasn't coming home."
Harm closed his eyes, still shaking in his wife's arms."We don't have to tell him anything tonight, not until we know more information."
Pulling away from his wife, he looked deep into her eyes, "I .. know... I know.. we do need to tell him that she's missing, in the morning."
"Yes we'll do that together, as a family."
Harm nodded his head, "I need to take a walk; clear my head."
"Okay! Want some company?"
"If you're up to it, I'd never turn you down."
"On second thought, I think I'll stay here, just in case the airlines calls back."
Harm nodded his head; "Probably a wise idea." He went over to their walk in closet; revived his sneakers and sweatpants a long with his NAVY sweatshirt. After putting on his clothes, he made his way out of the bedroom, he started towards the stairwell; but stoped and headed towards Tommy's room.
Upon reaching it; he silently opened the door. He just stood in the doorway at first; not intending on walking inside, till he found himself looking down at his little son sleeping soundly. He just stood there griping the crb rails, watching him.
He dropped to his knees turning and leaning back against the rails, burring his face into hands. "God Tommy how do I tell Josh about his mother? He's already lost so much in his short life; how can I tell him this? How can I explain this to him? I don't even begin to know how!"
Back in their bedroom; Mac had been listening to Harm talk to Tommy; listening to him broke her heart. She decided he needed her even though he'd say he didn't, getting up out of bed; she made her way down the hallway to Tommy's room. As she looked through the doorway, the sight in front of her broke her heart.
There sat Harm on the floor with his back towards Tommy's crib; his face buried deep into his hands, he was sobbing. Not wasting anytime; she made her way over to him. Dropping down to the floor beside him and taking him into her arms. He never tried to fight her, he just let her hold onto him, burying his face into her neck, he sobbed into her.
They sat there together for a while, Mac just let him cry. She knew he needed this, she knew this was bringing up memories from his own childhood, the sting of losing a parent at a young age. After a while he shifted and glanced over at Mac. "How'd you know..."
"I always know when you need me"
"I always need you; I will always need you."
"I'm not going any where."
Harm nodded his head, he glanced over towards the doorway when he heard it open, that's when he saw Josh standing there. "Uncle Harm are you okay?"
Catching both of them off guard, they both glanced at each other, than back over at Josh, neither one knowing what to really say to him. After a few more moments it was Mac who motioned for him to come over, she pattied the ground next to her. Josh sat down and started looking back and forth between the both of them.
Harm turned his head away from Josh, he just couldn't look at him right now, Josh peeped around Mac looking at Harm then back at Mac. "Aunt Mac; is Uncle Harm okay?"
"He will be Josh; he just has a lot of his mind right now..."
RING, RING, RING - Harm jumped up heading out of Tommy's room towards the hallway grabbing the phone as he made his way towards his and Mac's bedroom.
"Commander Rabb"
("Commander; This is James Thomas, I'm with Delta Airlines. We have you list listed as next of kin for Annie Pendry...")
"Yes I'm well aware of this, what's going on? Has there been a change?"
( "Yes we are asking that all family members please come to Delta VIP lounge inside Washington Dulles Airport, please get here ASAP.")
"I'm on my way." Harm hung the phone, and headed back down to Tommy's room, he walked through the door and gave Mac a sad look. She looked deep into his eyes, she could tell the news wasn't good. Thinking fast she told Josh to meet her down in the kitchen. Josh got up and headed downstairs. "Harm?"
"That was Delta Airlines on the phone; I've got to go to the Airport..."
"I'm going with you."
"What about the kids? We can't leave them here?"
"I'll call mom and Frank."
"While you do that, I'll go change." Mac reached for Harm's hands, he helped her up. Turning back to look at Harm, she saw nothing but sadness in his eyes. "Are you..."
"I honestly don't know, I don't know how I feel right now. I only know that I need you now more than ever."
She took him in her arms..."I'm not going anywhere."
Harm nodded his head as he pulled her tight to him; "God I need you Sarah. You're my heart."
She placed her lips against his ear; "And you're mine; we will face this together; just as we've always done."
He nodded his head, "I'd better call mom."
"And I'd better change"
They both stopped what they were about to do and suddenly looked at each other; "Josh!" They both said at the same time.
"Sweetie you go change; I'll go down to him."
"What are you going to tell him?"
"I've no clue." Harm lowered his head and headed out and towards the kitchen downstairs. Before he entered the kitchen he took a deep. "Hey kiddo"
"Hi Uncle Harm; where's Aunt Mac?"
"She's upstairs changing her clothes"
"Why?"
"Well you see; I have to go see about a friend; and your Aunt Mac is coming with me. My mom is going to come and watch you and Tommy while we're gone."
"Oh! Okay she's cool I like her"
Harm took a deep breath, that went better than he'd hoped. "Uncle Harm may I have a sandwich and glass of milk."
"Sure you can." Harm walked over to the fridge opening it up to see what they had in there to fix a sandwich. He spotted his chicken salad he'd made a few days earlier. "Chicken salad okay?"
"Yes Sir"
"Excellent Mr. Pendry"
Harm went about preparing his sandwich for him, in the meantime, Mac walked into the kitchen; she glanced over at Josh before making her way over to Harm. Leaning as close to Harm's ear as she could, "I'll take one as well." Harm glanced over his shoulder, "I figured as much."
"Smart man! Right Josh?"
"Yes Ma'am."
'Ding Dong' - "I'll get the baby, you finish up here."
"Sounds good to us." Mac looked over at Josh and winked.
Harm headed to the front, when he reached it, he checked the peephole, seeing his mom and Frank he opened the door, stoping them before they could enter. He stepped out the front porch. "I just wanted to give you both a heads up; Josh doesn't know about Annie yet, simply because I don't know really know anything yet"
"Harmon what has the airlines told you?"
"Just that the flight went down and search and rescue operations are underway."
"Son when Sarah called us; she said they requested that you come to the airport "
"Yes Frank, I don't think they want to give out any information over the phone. I've just no clue what to really expect when I get there." Harm ran his hand over his very tired face.
Trish went over to her son, taking him into her arms, "Son it's going to be okay; we will all be here for you and Sarah." Harm nodded; "We will go inside and send Sarah out to you."
"Thanks mom." He hugged his mom, than released her so they could go inside. While he waited for Mac, he paced back and forth across the front porch. After a few minutes he stoped and just looked up towards the sky. "I just don't get how you could take away both of his parents. What kind of god are you?"
