Chapter 2

Hope appeared outside what looked to be a mansion, her heart pounding in her chest, when she looked through the closest window she froze. There stood her father, placing blood in a cooler, He looked so different. He looked like the king he had always claimed to be, someone with hidden power and might. When she saw her Aunt enter the room she carefully stepped closer to the window, trying to hear what they were saying.

"How dare you save Caroline over me!" Her Aunt looked more broken than Hope had ever seen.

"Hello, Brother, I thought you were dead, so pleased you're not." Klaus replied sarcastically, not even looking at his sister. Hope looked on in shock, a slight shiver running through her as she realized that this was the Klaus that was labeled as the "Great Evil" in all the books at school.

"You left me." Rebekah kept going, anger beginning to join the hurt.

"I only had time to save one of you, and you can't be killed. Rest assured, I had a worse day than you. I think it's time for us to move on, find some more werewolves."

"So you can create your hybrid family? You don't know anything about family!" Rebekah yelled.

"Well, I know how easily they can be silenced with a dagger." Hope jumped back as she watched Rebekah lunge at the blood in the cooler and throw a bag against the wall, before holding the other two out, "NO!" Klaus yelled, anger radiating.

"Drop them." He commanded.

"I mourned you! My heart broke thinking I'd never see you again!"

"Put the blood down, Rebekah, there's a good girl." Klaus tried again.

"It's always been me! Not Finn. Not Elijah. Not Kol, me. I loved you through everything, and you don't even care."

"Drop It!" Klaus yelled. His voice making Hope flinch outside the window. She had known that her father had been evil, had been hated, but she hadn't ever seen this version of him. Only once did she ever see anything even close to this, and it had stuck with her forever. She realized quickly that this was going to be a harder job than she had thought, if he wouldn't listen to her aunt, how in the world would she get him to listen to her.

"You want your family? Here's your family." Rebekah cried as she broke the blood bags in her hands. Klaus quickly flashed towards her, grabbing her by the throat.

"You know something, Rebekah, you were right. I don't care. From this moment on, you're not my family, you're not my sister. You are nothing." With that Klaus snapped her neck before heading out of the room, he paused slightly and Hope froze thinking he had noticed her, but when he kept walking she let out a breath and began to walk towards the town. She had no idea how she was going to accomplish her goal. She had thought she knew, but she had also underestimated how bad her father would be. She hadn't known that he had ever been this bad, honestly she had thought that half the stuff in the books were because the authors had been the ones who were being attacked by him, not because he was actually that bad. She stopped in the middle of the town, remembering the times her mother would come visit her at school and bring her here to get a milkshake and walk around. They were some of her favorite memories, she had sometimes thought she had seen her father, in an alleyway, or in the door of a building, not making himself known but not hiding. Watching her from afar as she and her mother walked. She had longed for him to be there with her, holding on to the last "I love you" he had given her before leaving to not be seen for years. She blamed herself for every lost memory. She was the one who got attacked by the evil and because of it they had been separated, her mom had died, and now her dad was going to die. She was to blame, and she was going to fix it, by taking her out of their lives.

"It will work. It has to work." She whispered to herself, into the darkness.

The next morning Hope figured out that her mother hadn't come to town yet. Her father was still sulking over the previous nights events. It was something that made her somewhat mad, her father had clearly been to blame, and yet here he was acting like everything was against him and like he was a victim. She almost wondered how he had changed so much to become the man she knew as her father. Elijah always had told her that her father fought for what he loved, and that he would never give up on what he chose to fight for. She wondered if he had anything to fight for now. He had always chosen her, fought for her, and yet she was experiencing a man that had never met her, didn't even know she existed. It was weird to see her father in this way, she knew her mother would be different from the woman she knew as well, she just wondered if she would even get to see the people she knew her parents to be, before she said goodbye to them forever.

Klaus walked calmly through the town, he knew someone had been watching him. He had heard them last night, and he could tell they were watching him now as well. He didn't really care, although he also didn't want his doppelgänger to get hurt by some baby vampire or werewolf who thought they could best him. Truly he wasn't all that worried, he had become quite good at being in control of Mystic Falls and nobody was going to take that away from him anytime soon. He walked into the grille to grab a drink and calmly glanced around him as he entered, trying to place any new faces in the many town folks. When he saw a young girl across the park, he paused for a second, but then decided he would look into it later. She was a new face, but she didn't look all that threatening, and if Klaus was being honest she seemed almost familiar.

Hope watched her father walk into the grille, before grabbing a seat at a nearby bench. She could hear the church bells echo around the town, and she realized that it must be why there wasn't really anyone around. Eventually she got a newspaper and learned that there had been an explosion at a farm that had killed twelve people. She wondered what that meant for the next few months, but she assumed that it just meant the other vampires and people in the town would be otherwise engaged, and her father would be alone. At least that is what she guessed made her father sleep with her mother when they didn't like each other. Sitting on the bench, Hope almost felt like she had never been in Mystic Falls before, it was so very different, as was her father and the other members of her family. It almost felt like another world for Hope. To see her father in such a light, to know that her mother would be different as well, and to see that the town itself felt different as well as hard. She knew that when she was done here she would fade from existence, she would disappear and everything she brought with her would as well. While she was completely ready for this, and set to it, she had hoped that it would feel as if she was leaving home, not some place that seemed as if a stranger. All she had to do now was find her mother, then she would finish the job, but for now she had to introduce herself to her father. So walking calmly towards the grille she steadied her nervous heart. As she went to open the door it flung open, stepping backwards it took her a moment to look back up, but once she had, she came face to face with just the person she had been looking for.

"My apologies, Love. I didn't know you were out here."

"It's no problem, I should have been paying more attention to where I was going." Hope replied to her father.

"Well then, all is settled, we both shall have to pay more attention in the future." Her father said with an almost twisted smile.

"Yes we must, Mr…" Hope left the name off of the end, hoping for a formal introduction.

"Mikaelson, Klaus Mikaelson. And you are…" Klaus asked, he knew exactly who he was talking to, it was the girl who had been watching him. Apparently, she wanted to be acquainted with him.

"Hope… Hope Smith." Hope came up with a last name last minute, hoping that he wouldn't catch her lie. She couldn't go by either of her parents last names or it would likely be fatal for her, seeing as how her father was currently.

"Delighted to make your acquaintance, Love. I'm sure in such a small town we will meet again." With that Klaus walked off, he looked sure of himself, and almost like he was planning something. She just hoped that she would be able to use her knowledge of him against him and out smart him, just this once.
