Chapter 3
Klaus walked away from his meeting the girl with a new-found curiosity. He knew she was up to something, and he was determined to figure out what it was. It's not like he wouldn't have time, his doppelgänger was now a vampire, and he was not about to leave the town with this girl up to something. He knew that he had lost his hybrid army, but there was still more available in this small town. He had a feeling it started with her. He was always one step ahead, and he wasn't about to let that change with this girl. He was stuck now, his trip to Chicago was going to have to wait. He quickly pulled out his phone to call to his men to start looking in to why this girl was in town. He had also heard that he needed to start keeping a closer eye on Tyler, seeing as someone was out to kill him.
Klaus stuck around after placing Tyler on house arrest, and when his hybrids told him of yet another new face, he decided he would go ahead and get to know this one. So he went back to the Lockwood house and silently slipped into the room she was in, while Tyler greeted Caroline,
"You're a new face."
"And I take it from your accent, you're an old one. Klaus."
"My reputation precedes me, hopefully not all bad."
"A little bad, mostly repulsive." Hayley replied.
"So you're a friend of Tyler's. That's strange. He's never mentioned you…" Klaus paid to listen in on Tyler trying to get Caroline to leave before continuing. "And I think I know why." Klaus said with a smile as they both heard the front door close. After a moment, Hayley left and Klaus was left alone in the room waiting for Tyler. It didn't take long for him to come in the room, no doubt trying to find the girl.
"She's quite fetching, that Hayley."
"Where is she?"
"Oh, she had to run, but don't worry, I had her take the back door, so Caroline wouldn't see."
"Whatever you think you know…" Tyler began,
"I don't know anything, but I've put together a pretty convincing picture. Why don't you tell me where my imagination deviates from reality? You went off to the Appalachians to break my sire bond. There, you met a pack of werewolves, and begged them for help. Among them was a girl. She was gorgeous, with the same animal instincts as you. Emotions ran high. Inhibitions ran low."
"Stop it."
"Then, in a moment of weakness, the thick sexual tension became something much more real."
"I said stop!"
"And Caroline has no idea." With that, the telephone rang and Klaus went to answer it. He wanted to rip Tyler's throat out for hurting Caroline, but he restrained himself to instead answer the phone.
"Hello, Damon."
"Klaus, where's Tyler?"
"Tyler's otherwise occupied making big decisions about honesty and whatnot. Is there anything I can do?"
"I'm going after the vampire hunter, so if he'd like to join…"
"He wouldn't. I however…" With that, Klaus got the information he needed to join Damon in his hunt, and he got up to leave. He had a lot on his plate, and he was just hoping that he could figure out what exactly all the new faces were doing in his town. As he walked out the door, his own cellphone rang,
"Hello."
"Hey, Boss. I found out some information on the girl you wanted me to look into."
"Yes?"
"According to what we have heard, she got into town last night, and she is here to fix something. She says that she is from out of town and that her name is Hope Smith, but she slipped up at some point as started to say a last name that started with an 'M.' We are still trying to figure some things out, but it's almost as if she appeared out of nowhere, there is no trail from her heading in or out of town. We have called a witch to try and figure that out."
"Good. Continue to look and keep me updated." With that, Klaus hung up and went to meet Damon.
Hope had seen her mom, it had only been for a moment as she was leaving the Lockwood house, but she had seen her. She was thankful she had been right on the date, it was time for her to get started on her plan. Her father was going to be harder to deal with than she had thought, but if there was one thing she knew, it was that he was paranoid. She was planning on using that to her full advantage. She just had to stop her parents from spending too much time together. She was determined to erase herself from existence.
"It will be better that way." Hope whispered into the surrounding air. She had just watched her father walk out of the mansion towards his car. He paused for a second after she spoke, and she froze, thinking he had heard her, but after a moment he continued to his car and left.
"It will be better that way." Klaus knew the voice, it was the girl who had followed him. It was Hope. Once he was in his car driving, he thought through just why the girl was in mystic falls, and what exactly she was trying to do that had to do with him. He knew it was about him, and he had a feeling it had something to do with the other new face in town. They did look alike, yet Hope had something that seemed so familiar, he just couldn't place it. So he put it out of his mind and went to help Damon with the vampire hunter.
Hope carefully slipped off of the Lockwood property after her father left and made her way back to the town. She would grab a bite to eat before trying to find some place to rest. She had spent the past night out walking around, figuring out where everything was and what she needed to do. Once she had found a booth at the grille, she thought she would be fine, yet a voice caught her by surprise,
"I heard you are also new here, mind if I sit?"
Hope looked up straight into the eyes of her mom.
