Chapter Six

"So, we pull her back." Kol stated, staring at the sleeping body of his niece on the bed. He and Rebekah had been called back to the compound the moment Freya and Elijah had realized what Hope had done.

"Kol, you have studied magic, you know that could kill her." Freya replied.

"It's not like we can leave her there, if she succeeds, which knowing who she is and whose daughter she is, I wouldn't put it past her, everything will go back. Klaus will go back, surely you realize, my dear sister, that if Klaus goes back, we all get daggered and thrown into the sea." Kol explained. He had no want to go back to the brother that had been before Hope came to be.

"We know, Kol. Yet, we cannot risk her life to bring her back." Elijah explained.

"We could send someone to stop her…" Rebekah offered. She was worried about what would happen when her brother found out what his daughter was doing.

"We all exist during that time, we show up and people will realize. It would be dangerous." Elijah replied.

"Freya doesn't." Kol stated, sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning on his knees.

"I would have to be here, to do the spell. I don't know how Hope sent herself, but I couldn't send myself, I would need someone else." Freya replied.

"Who else could we send, Marcel is off limits because Klaus would know him, none of us can go because we would all catch attention, Freya has to be here. Who else is there?" Rebekah listed,

"Davina." Kol's voice was low, and it seemed almost like he hated to offer it.

"Klaus wouldn't know her." Elijah agreed.

"She knows what Hope is going through. She has had the lives of people she loves hanging over her head time and time again. She knows the spell. She can protect herself. Nobody will know her." Kol listed.

"I feel like there is a "but" coming." Rebekah added.

"Well, sister, would you really want to send the person you love back to try and stop your niece from stopping herself from being born, when it all revolves around your brother, who at the time was a murderous psychopath?" Kol asked, looking up at his siblings, he paused and took a deep breath before standing and adding, "I'll call her." before leaving the room.

"Can you send Davina?" Elijah asked, turning to Freya after his brother left the room.

"I think so. I will prepare the spell while we wait on her to get here."

"Right. Rebekah, why don't you help me take care of our brother, if he finds out about this we are going to have quite the situation on our hands." Elijah said before leading Rebekah out of the room, leaving Freya to prepare the spell alone.

Kol stood on the balcony holding his phone, he was putting off calling. He knew that asking this of his wife would be the opposite of everything he had promised her. He also knew that it would be the opposite of what she would want to do. Yet, he knew that she would help in spite of it. She had a soft spot for Hope. Kol then forced himself to push the button that would call his wife and raised the phone to his ear.

"Hello?" Davina's voice was calm and soft when she answered, and it made Kol hate what he was about to ask twice as much. In the past years Davina had finally found a life filled with peace and normality, as had Kol, he just wanted her to be able to keep it.

"Hello, love, how is your day going?" Kol asked, his voice forcefully steady.

"Long, but good. Work was just hard today. How has your day been? Is Klaus alright?"

"My day has been hell. Klaus actually seems to by dying, and Hope has decided it is her fault and has sent herself back in time to try to keep my brother from having relations with a certain werewolf. She blames herself for everything. She thinks it would be better for her to not exist." Kol explained to his wife.

"She sent herself back in time. That's not good. What is your plan?"

"Freya is preparing to send someone to go get her. We can't pull her out because it could kill her."

"Who are you going to send? None of you can go, Klaus would recognize you immediately."

"That's why I am calling. I don't want to ask this, but there is nobody else…"

"Kol, you know me. I might not like your brother, and I might not like the whole magic thing anymore, but I am a Mikaelson, and Always and Forever is a vow I made the same as the rest of you. I'll be there as soon as I can." Davina replied, Kol could hear her gathering her things through the phone.

"Thank you." Kol replied.

"Of course. Kol, are you okay? I know you didn't like Klaus all that much, but he is still your brother. And now with Hope, there is so much you might be losing right now. I know what that feels like, are you okay?"

"I don't know. I haven't really had all that much time to think about it. I know that I have lost two of my brothers in this life, and nothing was ever the same afterwards. Even with Finn, who we had not actually had with us for the past nine hundred years, it felt like it felt when we lost Henrik. I don't like Klaus, and I have so much hurt from him, but he is still my brother…"

"And if he dies, you will miss him and mourn him, just as you did Henrik and Finn." Davina finished for Kol.

"I wish I could say that I wouldn't."

"You don't have to, or need to, Kol. Family is family, and losing family is not something that is easy for anyone. I need to get on the road, I'll be there soon, and everything will be okay."

Elijah sat next to his sleeping brother, he knew that all of this happened because of him. He had chosen the easy route, and Hayley had died, and Hope had taken the darkness, and Klaus had taken it, and now he would die, all because Elijah couldn't take the pain. Now he was watching his brother die, and he was watching his niece spiral, he was about to lose the one person he had always had.

"What have I done?" Elijah whispered into the surrounding air.

"You can't blame yourself, Elijah." Rebekah said, as she entered the room.

"Why not? I am the one that erased my memories, which made you all want to check in on me, which made the darkness grow. Which then led to Hayley's death, which then led to Hope wanting to take the darkness, which led us here. To Klaus dying, and Hope on a suicide mission, and every bit of it, because I couldn't handle my own life."

"You finally chose happiness, Elijah. All of us did. Klaus chose to visit Hayley and Hope when he knew he shouldn't have. I chose to visit you. We all made decisions to finally get happiness, and each of them led us here. It is nobody's fault, all of us played a part."

"Yet, our niece thinks she shouldn't be alive because I got her mother killed, and now her father is dying to save her, because in my loss of memories I forced my family to make a choice." Elijah replied, looking at his brother. This was the choice. This was the fate of a thousand years. Elijah stood before continuing, "For a thousand years we have kept from fate, we have lived a hundred lives. Killed a thousand victims. We have done whatever we wanted, and we have never paid the price. We wrote this fate for ourselves in our choices."

"You sound like mother. We were cursed, Elijah, none of this was us. It was fear, and bloodlust, and pain that built for a millennia, we can't undo that, we didn't choose this. It was given to us, and we have survived the best we could with what we were given." Rebekah countered.

"I can't let him die thinking that I meant to betray him, thinking that I don't still hold the vow of always and forever."

"How are you going to prove it to him?"

"First, I am going to save his daughter." Elijah said, before walking toward the door,

"And second?"

"I am going to live out forever." With that, he was gone, and Rebekah was left to try and figure out what Elijah had meant.

"Freya?" Kol called, as he walked into Hope's room, she was kneeling on the floor pouring a salt mixture in a circle.

"Yes?"

"Davina is on her way. She said she would help."

"Good. I almost have everything ready, so once she gets here we can start."

"How are we going to get them back once they have done what they need to do?"

"They will both decided when they come back. I am going to send Davina directly to Hope, and when she is done, she will decide when she leaves." Freya explained.

"How dangerous is this mission?"

"The spell is perfectly safe, the only danger is if she wrote herself out of existence, like Hope is trying to do, or if she was killed."

"So, a normal day, just in the past." Kol joked.

"You okay, Kol? You seem a little off."

"I don't know. Are you okay? Our brother is dying, and our niece has decided it would have been better if she wasn't born, and is actively trying to change it."

"I am worried, I won't lie to you, but we have faced so much, we will figure it out."

"Like we figured out how to save Finn? Or Henrik? Like we figured out how to save Hayley, and all the other hundreds of people each of us have loved that have died. It is a death sentence to love a Mikaelson, or to be a Mikaelson. We like to pretend it isn't, like we can protect everyone, like we are actually immortal. Then, just like that, the truth slaps us in the face. Henrik, Finn, Hayley, Camille, Sage, Tatia, Celeste, Gia, I could list hundreds of others. It's a death sentence to be associated with the last name Mikaelson." Kol replied, tears building in his eyes.

"We won't let it happen again." Elijah spoke, entering the room and placing a hand on his brother's shoulder.

"How are we going to stop it? We save hope, sure, great. But Klaus is dying from a darkness that we have been fighting for years, how do you plan on us beating it?" Kol answered, shoving his brother's hand off his shoulder and turning to face him.

"We will figure it out."

"Like we figured out how to save Finn? Like how we saved Henrik?" With that, Kol stormed out of the room, leaving a broken Elijah and a slightly confused Freya in his wake.

"Don't worry, he will be fine. Is the spell ready?" Elijah asked, turning to his sister.

"All I need now is Davina."

"Is she coming?"

"Yes, Kol said he is on the way." Freya answered.

"Good. We need to fix this as soon as possible. When you have a moment, is there a way for you to move some of the darkness into me to balance Klaus out? We will still need to keep him asleep until Hope is returned, but once she has, she needs to be able to talk to him."

"I can, but I will have to put it back if it gets too bad, so that you can survive."

"We will come to that when it happens. Until then, we will have our brother back." Elijah replied.

"I can do it now."
