Lucy stared at the mirror while holding the necklace that Natsu gave her. She couldn't decide if she wanted to wear it today or just leave it at home. While she was contemplating whether she would use it or not, her phone rang. It was Sting.
"Hey, Ms. Pretty doctor, good morning…" said the man on the other line.
"Good morning! What's up?" she asked while leaving the necklace on her dresser and grabbing her bag.
"I'm near your house already, I'll pick you. Can we have breakfast before you go to work? It's still early… and I have something to tell you…" The voice on the other line was serious.
"What happened?" she looked at her watch "Okay, we can have a quick breakfast…"
"Perfect! I'll see you in a bit."
She ran downstairs. She didn't want Sting to wait, so she wanted to be outside before he arrived, but when she was at their front door, she remembered the necklace her husband had given her. She sighed, then went back up to her room to get the necklace.
Outside Lucy's house, Natsu was waiting. He wanted to see his wife first thing in the morning. While waiting for Lucy, he was leaning against his car when another car pulled up in front of him, and a familiar blonde man came out.
"Eucliffe." He said under his breath. He stood up straight and walked to him. Sting was a bit shocked upon seeing Natsu, but he just heaved a sigh. His usual smile is not painted on his face, but rather he has a serious face and aura. Sting also walked in his direction, and when they were face to-face, he said. "Natsu Dragneel."
"Why are you here?" Natsu asked.
"I have a breakfast date with Lucy." He smirked. "She's expecting me today… How about you? "
Natsu's expression did not change. "I'm her husband."
"I know." Sting said with a coy smile. "But is she expecting you to be here today, or are you hoping that you can make things right and be with her again?"
"I'm not hoping... that's a cheap word." He closed the gap between him and Sting, then leaned over to his ears and whispered while his hands were in his pockets. "I am going to make it up to her. Hoping and doing are two different things. She's mine and I'll make sure that it stays that way." Natsu stepped back and this time it was him who smirked. "It's you who's hoping for something…"
Sting smiled. "Heh… You did not fail my expectations, Dragneel." He saw Lucy walking towards them, so he tapped Natsu's shoulder before continuing. "Yeah, I'm hoping to have Lucy by myself, but that's entirely up to her. One thing is for sure though, I know how I feel about her so don't take your eyes off her, even for a second, because I might run away with her. "
Sting walked to Lucy, leaving Natsu behind. Lucy smiled at Sting and signalled him to wait, then she walked to Natsu.
"What are you doing here?" she asked while facing his back. She heard him exhale deeply before facing her. "I'm here to see you. I'm on my way to Zeref and Mavis, do you want to visit them before going to work?"
"Oh… I'll just visit them some other day." she didn't know how to say that she already agreed to have breakfast with Sting then he heard the blonde man say "Sorry man, we'll have breakfast today. I'll take care of her for you." Then she grabbed Lucy's hand and started walking to his car not waiting for Natsu to respond. Lucy did not resist.
Natsu watched them as they drove off. He was left alone and speechless. He placed his hand on his head then pulled his hair. He's having a headache and a heartache at the same time. He stayed like that for a while before driving to the Dragneel's residence.
Lucy was obviously daydreaming and she was just playing with her food again, so Sting decided to get her attention. "You've killed them again."
She was snapped back to reality, then looked at Sting and her food, then smiled. "Gosh… It's a bad habit, I guess…"
"Don't guess, it's really your bad habit…" he said jokingly. "Are you okay? I mean, are you okay with leaving him like that earlier? "
Lucy sips her coffee. "I'm fine and I don't really want to talk about him… You said on the phone that you wanted to say something? "
Sting's face got serious. "About that…" he put down his spoon and fork. "I'll be leaving soon."
"What? Why?" Lucy asked with a worried expression.
"Remember, I was on vacation because of an injury, but now I'm all better, so I'll be participating in different competitions abroad." He explained.
"Oh… I see… When are you leaving? " She asked in a low voice.
"Tomorrow." He said - not looking at her.
"What?!" she blurted. "That's so sudden!"
"Lucy.." he reached for her hands, "come with me."
Her eyes widened at his proposition. "I want to be with you, Lucy. I know you're not happy with him… I can make you happy. I will make you happy…" he said in all seriousness.
Lucy was shocked and she swallowed hard. His proposal was tempting. It was the first time she heard someone say that to her sincerely. She was happy. It made her heart skip a beat. But she knew that she wouldn't be able to reciprocate his feelings. She pulled her hands from his, "Thank you, Sting. It really makes me happy to know that you want to be with me. I like you Sting, but it's not like what you think… I like you as my dear friend…"
Being back home doesn't mean Natsu can just solely focus in courting his wife after all he still has a huge company to run. He has so much on his plate now that he doesn't know how to include "sleep" in his schedule. After his encounter with Lucy and Sting earlier today, he went to the Dragneels residence to visit his brother and sister-in-law. He and Mavis had a long chat and his problem with Lucy was brought up. Mavis suggested that he ask her out like a date because that is part of courting but Natsu rejected the idea because he was just rejected by his wife earlier and he's quite sure that she already has a lot of plans with Sting. Mavis was awed because it seems like Natsu is losing his confidence and this rarely happens but she likes Lucy and she knows that Zeref also likes her and wanted her to stay as Natsu's wife so she decided to help Natsu. Instead of going out on a date, she suggested that he cook for her and bring it to her. Natsu liked the idea and together they started preparing lunch for Lucy.
Gray arrived at the residence an hour before lunch. He didn't want to leave Natsu alone because ever since the incident with Lisanna, there are times that he can become unreasonable and he might put himself in danger.
He learned that Natsu will be going to Lucy to bring her the foods Natsu and Mavis prepared for her so he offered to drive for Natsu. When Natsu is already seated at the passengers' seat Gray looked at him suspiciously.
"What?"
Gray handed him a neatly folded black track suit and pointed at the back of the car for the shoes.
"What's this?"
He only responded "Change." Natsu just continued looking at his friend, waiting for him to elaborate himself.
Gray just sigh internally and rolled his eyes. "I understand how much you'd like to go see princess but Natsu, you of all people should know the risk of going out in public. You're getting reckless bro and I won't allow it. Remember, you've just expanded your business and competitors are not happy with it…"
Natsu still did not move an inch or even respond. "Do I really have to explain what might happen to you? You know the answer bro. You know why even you who can take care of himself needs security."
"I'm just bringing my wife lunch, Gray. I don't think that's too complicated."
"It's not complicated if you'll just follow our protocol. No, YOUR OWN PROTOCOL."
Natsu smirked before responding. "You sound like an old man." Then a small smile curved his lips. "Sorry, I wasn't thinking clearly. I'll change now."
He didn't wait for his friend to respond; he grabbed the clothes from Gray and reached out for the shoes. He went back to the house to change his clothes. It didn't take long for Natsu to change, from his business coat and tie attire, he's now wearing a zipper up black track suit.
He also called Jellal to make sure that Lucy won't be leaving her office of lunch. While seated on the passengers' seat, Natsu is remembering Stings words. "I know how I feel about her so don't take your eyes off her, even for a second, because I might run away with her."
Natsu clenched his fist and Gray noticed. "Something bothering you?"
"Yeah. Eucliffe." He said plainly.
Gray laughed at him. "The great womanizer Natsu Dragneel feels threatened by another man?! Tell me, where the hell did your confidence go?!"
"Tsk. I don't feel threatened by him, I'm worried about Lucy…"
Gray looked at him in his peripheral view while driving. "What about princess?"
"I went to her house earlier and she chose to be with Sting than me." He said in an almost whisper tone.
"It felt like the first time Lisanna left me and choses her career over us…"
Gray felt bad for his friend. "She's different from Lucy. Lisanna left on her own accord while Lucy is like that now because of something stupid that you did. It's not really a good comparison but if you're referring to the possibility that you'll be left alone again by the woman that you love, then you should really be worried. But I suggest instead of worrying yourself, you should act fast."
Gray pulled over in front of the hospital, "Do you have any plans?"
Natsu looked at him with a smile. "You're right, I should act fast and I do have plans." Before going out of the car he continued, "Thanks to you, I have a very interesting plan in mind."
Then he was gone.
Gray just smirked. "Show me how you'll win your wife back, great Natsu Dragneel."
Lucy just finished her rounds and her feet are already aching. She was feeling a little under the weather because of her conversation with Sting earlier. She was looking down and was massaging the temple of her head while walking to her office when she suddenly bumped into someone. She was about to fall but a strong hand caught her back.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry… I wasn't looking…." She said to the man who she bumped into and who saved her from falling without looking at him.
"Luce, are you okay?" She recognized that voice. She looked at the man almost violently. It was Natsu. He was wearing a tracksuit and a black cap.
"Natsu… what are you…"
He grabbed her hand then led her to her office. Once inside the room, he guided Lucy to sit on a chair, then he placed the bag he was holding on the table, and he sat on his feet in front of her. It's obvious that she's worried about something, and since she's still looking down and Natsu is sitting in front of her, she can see his face clearly. He's holding both her hands on her lap.
"Luce, you're spacing out. What's wrong?" Natsu asked worriedly.
She took her hands away from his then responded. "Yeah, I was just thinking of something. Nothing's wrong…"
"Don't lie." He said with authority.
"I'm just tired." She sighed then looked at him who's still sitting on his feet. "And I have a lot on my mind, thanks to you."
He frowned. "You're thinking of me? I don't want you to get tired thinking of me, Luce." He joked.
"I'm tired of you Natsu. Why are you here?" Lucy said in a weak voice.
Natsu stood up then reached for the bag where he packed their lunch then showed it to Lucy.
"What's this?" she asked confused.
"Lunch." He said with a smile.
"Lunch?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," his smile faded "I know you'll say no if I ask you out for lunch so, I just cooked one for you hoping that we can have lunch together…"
He placed the bag on her lap. "But I understand if this isn't the best time. I'm sorry Luce if I've been causing you pain until now, but you shouldn't let your health suffer. " He touched her cheeks and continued, "I'll leave since you didn't want me here, but please take care of yourself…"
He turned his back and was about to turn the door knob when he heard her say,
"I didn't say that I don't want you here. Stay."
