The next morning, they all met at the train station with their costumes. Ace's was still simple, but some had already changed them up a bit. Ace didn't need to take the train, and he was the only one heading to that station, so he flew to the agency, already having memorized the route from his home and also the train station.

When he landed in front of the agency, he clearly was nervous. This was a big wig and he didn't want to disappoint. He took some calming breaths, thinking of happy things, imagining his friends having a good time, and leveled his emotions. He walked inside, and looked around before seeing Roger.

"You must be Ace, correct?" Roger asked, walking over with a smile. Ace nodded. "Why don't you go get changed? The changing room is that way."

"Okay - I mean, yes, sir," he said quickly. Roger laughed and said he should be familiar with him. He wasn't strict or stern. "Oh, okay," Ace replied, and hurried into the changing room. He put on his simple outfit, and left the room, his backpack stuffed in a locker. His phone and wallet were in there, along with his normal clothes.

Ace stood to the side while Roger worked before he walked over. "Now, today we will be going on patrol first. Getting right into it. I'll tutor you on our way."

"Um… I actually wanted to show you something my quirk can do that I didn't show at the festival. I think it could be helpful… in some situations," he said awkwardly. Roger raised his brows and encouraged him to show him. Ace transformed into Sabo, and then he turned into All Might, and turned into a toddler of himself, too. Showing that he could do anyone he wanted.

Those around him had their jaws dropped. Roger was grinning widely. Everyone caught themselves and hurried back to work. "You have an amazing quirk, Ace!" Roger praised. "I'm sure that can be very useful in the future. It wasn't in your briefing given to me by your teachers, though," he said curiously.

Ace looked to the side and said nobody but his three closest friends knew about it. "Not your family?"

"I don't want to talk about that subject, if it's okay," Ace said, still not knowing what the boundaries were of talking to a pro-hero directly. Roger promised he wouldn't bring it up again. He then brought up Ace's narcolepsy, which made Ace's face turn red.

"Ah, I had a feeling you'd feel this way. Here, come with me," Roger said nicely. Ace followed, not knowing what to expect. "You've heard of the pro-hero Doma, right? He can speak to carnivorous animals and they do his bidding, work with him on a daily basis?" Ace nodded. "He has severe arthritis. It hurts all the time, and he needs to take breaks and some days off due to extreme pain. But he made a name for himself, and you never knew that right?"

Ace's eyes were wide. "Then there's Whitey Bay," he continued. "She has cystic fibrosis. It interferes with work most days, but she still is a superb indoor sidekick. A lifespan of somebody with that is almost half of a healthy humans. But she is still determined to be the best hero she can be, while taking care of herself." Ace heard of her before. She was a sidekick to Roger and did much of the intelligence meetings. He knew where this was going. "I've had sidekicks with narcolepsy before. But you can hardly tell once they're properly treated. I know you were just diagnosed a little over two weeks ago, and your medication and treatment has not kicked in, but once it does, you'll be a normal hero with a few breaks for naps.

"Most people don't think about the fact that there are plenty of heroes with health problems, or mental disabilities. I'm not trivializing your illness, but you can work around it and be a perfectly functioning hero. It's only a matter of time before you can do hero work on your own. For now, and if you return again after this internship, you'll have a partner, but that's only normal."

Ace pursed his lisp and looked down, nodding. Roger grinned, and brought him to a room that looked like a library. He pulled out a thick book, and told Ace that each page there was of somebody with a medical condition. "I accept all with medical conditions and help them feel capable and welcome. My favorite thing to do is help make others' dreams come true. Whether that's people wishing for safety, to be out of a bad situation, or dreaming of being top heroes.

"I'll help you with yours, too," he said brightly. Ace let out a smile and nodded, very glad he chose Roger and not somebody else. "Time for patrol," he announced. Ace nodded, feeling excited and not so useless right now. He was much shorter than Roger, who was very tall. "Now, a big part of being a hero is the public image. How would you like to be seen by the public?"

"I would want them to like me."

"And how would you do that?"

"Engage with them in a friendly manner, and always do my best for the situation," Ace said, though it sounded a little like a question at the end. Roger agreed, and asked what he could do personally with his quirk that wasn't just being friendly on the surface. "Show off? Maybe let little kids ask me to change into something?"

"Bingo! Another thing that is good for the public image is to be unique, and stand out. Because of that, you may want to change up your costume. You don't look much like a hero in this outfit. Maybe add a mask or head piece. The gloves are a good start. A skin tight, quality top would be a step in the right direction as well," Roger explained. Ace nodded.

"I just kept it simple cause my quirk doesn't need any special stuff. Clothes don't matter," Ace said. "I could do something to use my quirk as a decoration? Would that work?" he asked. Roger wondered what he meant. Ace looked at his arms, and transformed them into having scales all but the underside of his hands.

He then gave himself ears on his head. "Kinda looks like multiple quirks being used?" He worried he looked stupid. Roger grinned, and told him he was giving all the right answers. Ace smiled lightly.

"Plus, the ears and arms appeal to different groups. The arms look tough and strong. And the ears are cute. They'd appeal to girls." Ace didn't like that. He didn't want to be cute. He wasn't wearing any of that stuff. He was just in a plain looking outfit with a head piece on. Roger's quirk was seeing the future three hours out. He was fit and skilled in martial arts. Also smart. Ace wasn't sure about Roger's weakness in his quirk, though.

When he said that, Roger laughed. "When I was a new hero, I looked ridiculous. But now that I'm well known, I don't need a flashy outfit. Not everyone is an All Might. But I think he wears a skin tight suit to show off his muscles. I think everyone wears those to look good." Ace kept in a laugh. Some of his classmates had that kind of outfit.

They walked passed a family of four, a little boy on the dad's shoulders and the older one walking next to them. "Morning, Roger-san. Oh, you're Ace from the sports festival! You'll make a good hero."

Ace blushed at the praise and slowly asked the little boy if he wanted to see Ace turn into something. "Vapprein!" the toddler said. Ace asked if he meant the pokemon. He nodded. Luckily, Ace and Midoriya went through a ton of popular pokemon, joking around a couple months ago.

So he turned into the blue creature and propped himself up on his back legs. The little boy squealed and shimmied. "Papa, picture!" Ace sat next to the little boy who was beaming. He hugged Ace in this form, and they walked away, waving goodbye happily. Ace changed back into human form, and Roger started to laugh. "You'll definitely be a very unique hero! That was a good call." Ace said he liked joking with his friends and turning into as many things as he could. "You have many uses for that quirk. I'll help you adapt to all of them." Ace beamed and nodded. This was fun so far!

Roger explained the kinds of heavy burdens placed on heroes that they all carried with them. "If you ever fail to save anybody, which will happen one day, then the public will not be happy. Heroes, as much as we do good things, can be scapegoats. But usually, a failure fades quickly. Eventually, by continuing to do good things, the failure will wash away.

"But during the storm, you must learn to not be reactive. You can't get mad at the public, or throw a fit. You must be stoic and understanding why they are acting this way, even if you don't like the reason for it. Patience is necessary," Roger continued. Ace nodded to it.

They passed more people, Ace stopping the families to ask if the kids wanted to see a trick. He made sure to only choose the ones that don't look like they're in a hurry. They patrolled a lot of the surrounding area before Roger heard something in his headset. "There's an armed robbery right now with hostages."

"Can I help?" Ace asked, though he was nervous. What if he passed out at the wrong time? But he kept himself transformed in his arms and the ears that were just there as looks. He was hearing out of his regular ears.

"Can you get us there quickly?" Ace nodded. He changed in a small dragon, big enough for him to ride but not take a lot of room. Roger climbed on and called his sidekicks to the scene. They got there long before the sidekicks did. "Transportation is very handy. Stay back here."

Ace didn't protest, though he thought he could help more. There were a ton of cops there. Roger lead them in, telling them everything that would happen so they could avoid any negative results. It helped a lot, and soon the police had the robbers cuffed, all of the victims unhurt. But they all were bothered.

The teen turned into a dog, knowing they helped traumatized victims. He went to the kids and crying people to try and comfort them, acting as a dog, by wagging his tail and licking them. It calmed many down, them running their fingers through the thick fur. After they were all gone, taken to the police station or driven home, Ace changed back. "That was very heroic. Helping distressed people is also something heroes must know how to do." Ace smiled and nodded. He was surprised with how Roger used his quirk. He was almost like support. Others did the work that he helped them with greatly.

He was really cool! When 2:00 came, Ace awkwardly said he had to take a scheduled nap. Roger quickly had them return to the agency, where Ace crashed on the couch the moment he sat on it. He woke fifteen minutes later, as he'd asked Roger to do. Then they continued until the sun set, when they returned to the agency.

"Now, you must write a report. For the reports in my agency, I don't have you do long reports. Bullet points will do. As long as they paint the picture clearly. After a long day, it can be hard to summon all little details. Write what you remember, with those usually being the most important points.

"Longer investigations, fullfledged missions, require more detail, but those are usually written with more than one person so they can fill in the blanks another might have in their memory. Being a hero needs successful teamwork," he explained. "Endeavor and Hawks prefer doing things solo, but that is them."

Ace nodded, and said, "I got offers from both of them. I didn't want Endeavor because my friend told me he's rude, and Hawks is too young." Roger laughed. Ace turned red. "I just wanted to learn from someone with a lot of experience…"

"Than I'm honored you chose me. I am younger than Endeavor, though." Ace aid he was a lot nicer, it seemed. "Endeavor is an acquired taste, but a good hero in many ways. He's his own brand." Roger was really easy to talk to, and he had to remember he was his teacher and superior right now. "You didn't have a single sleep attack today. Keeping you busy and engaged should help with that."

The teen nodded, happy with how things ended up. "It was a very successful day today. I'm proud. I'll see you tomorrow, bright and early." Ace said he'd be there. "Be careful on your way back home."

"Yeah, I will be," Ace replied, getting his things after changing, and flying back home, in a wonderful mood. He chose the right agency to intern at! He was so nice, and Ace felt so much better knowing that there were lots of heroes - well known - that had medical conditions that made things more difficult, but not impossible.

Nobody there had looked at him with an ounce of pity, and said not a thing about him taking a nap. He had a great day, and wondered how his friends did, too. When he got home, Sabo was already there, sleeping on his bed. Maybe he was tired after a full day of exercising. Well, if that was what he did with Gunhead only.

His ears and arms were back to normal. He then had a sleep attack instantly, only it lasted two minutes. He was able to stumble down, not collapse, which was a lower risk. When he woke up, Sabo was still passed out. So, it did seem using his quirk kept the sleep attacks away. Very helpful information!

Ace called Marco while Sabo was asleep, and asked how his day went. "Hawks is a really chill guy. I went on patrol with him and Tokoyami, but he was really fast paced. He apparently wants to teach Tokoyami to fly. He promised to help me learn about flying as a patrol tomorrow. How about you?" Ace gave him a recap of his day, and what kind of guy Roger was, how he made him feel welcome and not disabled. "I'm so happy for you! Looks like you really did choose the right agency! You'll be a great hero. Very charismatic and responsible."

"I hope so. I think Sabo's really tired, he's still sleeping and I got here half an hour ago." Marco was at home, too. He heard Marco's brother shout dinner was ready, and Marco had to go. Ace said goodbye and went to the kitchen to make some food. Hack was at work right now. He worked night shifts a lot, working at a hospital.

As he cooked, he called Midoriya, who was good at eating and talking at the same time. He had a weird day. His hero mentor was a weird old man, still strong, but weird. He did barely any teaching, but Midoriya said he felt he improved a lot. "I'll show it at the end of the week! You're definitely getting different training than me." Ace agreed.

Sabo came out, looking well rested. Ace said goodbye to Midoriya so he and Sabo could have dinner. "How'd it go?" Sabo asked as Ace served him the breaded chicken and rice. Ace happily explained his day, and Sabo smiled, happy for who he chose. "Roger sounds like an awesome guy. And I never really thought about you entertaining kids with your quirk. Maybe I can see about going to Roger some time?"

"That would be awesome. I'm sure you'd like him, too."

"I like him already for making my best friend feel welcome and happy." Ace beamed and nodded.

The next day, Roger had him run simulations. Since the agency was so diverse in actions and tasks, learning more aspects of being a hero was helpful. "What would you do if there was a villain driving a stolen car, with hostages inside? How would you help the situation safely and successfully?"

They were sitting in the lounge on fluffy couches. Ace had his arms transformed, the skin as scales. He felt like changing up the features each day, just to be spontaneous. "I would transform into a small creature and wait until the car stops, and then give the location. Depending on what position the hostages are in… If I could, I'd talk in the headset while in the trunk," he said, hoping he did the right thing. Not causing the car to crash was definitely important.

"That's good and all, but what could make it easier for you? And for the heroes to find you quickly?" Roger asked. Ace thought for a moment before he said wearing a tracker would be helpful. "Right. Equipment is important. A support item could help you as well. What do you think would be the best?"

"I think some sort of GPS could be helpful. I don't know where everything is, but I can get places quickly. Maybe some sort of arm band with a GPS. I feel like I'm talking about an action movie now…"

"Action movies derive narrative from real life most times. So that isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, movies where the protagonist surfs a tsunami isn't the kind of action movie that would be helpful." Ace snickered. "But the idea of a GPS it very helpful. Though you'd need to be in human form to use it."

Ace knew that and nodded. "I can always revert my arm back to human form, but I'd need to be a larger size. So a tracker would be useful for times where I have to be an animal," the teen said.

"Very true. Now, we will go test those out!" He got up and Ace followed out. He trailed after him when he asked somebody for the equipment they'd been talking about. "For now, we'll do an ear piece. It's less clunky and easier to deal with," Roger said, handing him the ear piece that fit in his ear perfectly. It clipped around the back so it wouldn't fall out. It had a microphone as well.

He said, "You'll be using these for our patrol tomorrow. You'll go to three places I'll mark, and I'm going to time you. With your quirk, a blessing will be fast travel time. You don't need to get in a car, and have nothing stopping you from getting from point A to point B. You can also bring people along with you. As far as I know, there is one pro-hero at the moment who can do that. Meaning you'll stand out in one more way."

Ace asked, "Is it good to stand out that much in the beginning?"

"Yes and no. Yes because exposure gives more possibilities. To be invited on missions or to take part in special cases. But as a student, being under the spotlight may be difficult. Which is why you'll be wearing a mask from now on." Ace said he could fix that. He made the skin around his eyes and across his nose black. "Hah! Very resourceful!" Roger praised. Ace blushed, though he really enjoyed being praised. It made him feel important and accepted.

He added, "Having your ability about being able to copy human appearances a secret, it could be a great help some day." Ace asked if it was better to hide it. "I'd say hiding it until you're doing real hero work would be for the best. I can see you being overwhelmed from it. I've never seen a quirk where they can seamlessly turn into someone else."

Ace hurried to say he had to work hard to get them correct. One wrong feature and that messes it all up.

"Regardless of where you are now with it, it will no doubt be useful in the future in some way."

"There really aren't any shape shifting quirks like that?" Roger shook his head. He'd never seen somebody who could transform into any form they wanted, no matter what it was. Most transformation quirks were into one thing, not anything that comes to mind.

"And you have no side effects from it?" he asked. Ace replied he'd never seemed to have any. Roger nodded and smiled. "Time for a faux mission. I've set up a brain puzzle for you. I want you to come with me, and I'll help you use your brain strategically." Ace got up, excited for whatever what was coming. He tampered it down, though. Too excited could trigger an attack.

Even though he was convinced he was fine as long as he was using his quirk, it was better safe than sorry. They went to the first place. "A murder has been here. You're looking for any evidence. Be thorough," Roger said. They were in an alley way with a bunch of garbage. Ace asked when the murder had been.

Roger smiled slightly. "Three days ago." Ace inspected the area, but found nothing suspicious on the ground or in the brick walls, which he scaled to inspect. The place he felt he needed to look now was the dumpster. He'd slept behind dumpsters back when he was homeless. It had never been regular, though.

He first picked up the dumpster in a large, muscled form. Nothing was on the bottom. So he finally dug through the trash, opening the bags. He found a bullet embedded in the back of the dumpster. He had forgotten to ask what happened to the victim. "They were killed by a quirk that caused the body to turn hypothermic." So, not a bullet.

"Do you know if the victim had a weapon on them?"

"A gun."

Ace looked at the direction that the bullet was facing. The villain had been in front of the dumpster when they were shot at. He looked at the opposite wall and then closer at the space right in front of the dumpster. There was nothing there. Maybe the dumpster had been changed in position. Ace rolled it along, inspecting the ground.

Near the back of the alleyway, there were footprints. Right at the distance in front of the dumpster when it was pressed to the wall. He saw just a barely there dirt mark of three long things. "I think the villain wasn't wearing shoes, and had a feature on their feet that had longer toes."

He didn't know if he did okay, but Roger clapped for him. "I got it right?" He nodded.

"The villain also had longer hands. You can see the markings on the inner edge of the dumpster. But the toes were the main piece of evidence. Now you know to look for somebody with a nonhuman feature on their feet." Ace beamed, feeling smart. "It will always be much easier to find out the appearance of a villain. Anything regarding that can give huge hints of who and what to look for."

They moved to the next place, which was a public park. "A child was kidnapped from this park. Last seen near this portion of the grass yesterday. There are no suspects. Find out when the boy was kidnapped." When, huh? He wondered how that would be found. He first scoured the grass, but there were plenty of different sized foot prints. That wouldn't be helpful. He looked at the cement in front of the grass.

There was a faint chalk drawing, just barely there. "Has anyone else come here since the scene?"

"No, it's been roped off since then," Roger said, arms crossed and observing. Ace asked if it had rained anytime recently. The chalk was visible, but faded. Maybe it had rained. "There was a storm."

"The kid was taken before the storm hit. Their chalk drawings are recent, but faded like it had rained. So the chalk drawings had been made before it rained. What time did it rain yesterday?" Roger said it was at noon. "What time did the child come here? Did the paren't say?"

"9:30 AM."

"So it was between 9:30 and noon?" Roger nodded. He asked if he could pinpoint it any better. There was still something to know. Ace thought for a long time, looking around for anything more. Then he saw some soaked and soggy cheerios in the grass.

"What time did the kid eat?"

"11:00."

"Then it was between 11:00 and noon? He already ate, so it had to be after he ate that anything happened, right?" Roger grinned. It had taken an hour, but Ace figured it out. Ace was feeling great about himself. He smiled widely.

"One more exercise before we'll call it a day. You're quite perceptive and a detailed thinker." Ace blushed. He'd lived on his own enough to know not to rush things. He'd pretended to be an adult long enough to take things slowly and carefully. "This time, the game is timed. There were three crime scenes hit by the same person. They're still on the move, so you must figure it out soon.

"The villain used guns and knives. He was some kind of robber and assaulter, but didn't kill anyone. He hit three places. Try and figure out where he will go next. He's been known to work with a gang that specialized in mutant quirks that were strong."

They went to the first crime scene, which was a robbery at a food stand. Roger had actually set all this up beforehand? Wow! Ace was impressed. Ace inspected the food stand, but all he found were some dropped three quarters and a dime in one spot behind the stand. "He had to have taken the money by force. No cashier of a food stand this poor would ever not pick up the money and leave it there."

The next place he was reported at was a gun supply store, let's go there." Ace flew them as fast as he could to the next spot. The clue in the last place was that he needed the money in a hurry. He would have taken all the money if he hadn't been in a hurry. When they got to the gun supply store, he inspected the inside. The owner had already been told this would happen, apparently, as he was unbothered and ignored them.

Ace looked everywhere for something specific. Then he checked the trash, and found a list of gun parts crumpled up and ripped in four pieced. When he pieced them together, they were a list. He'd crossed out four of the five items. What he was missing was a silencer. Did he not have enough money for it, or was he in a rush still?

"If he was a robber, then he got in and out fast. He got everything he needed but one thing. I see the silencer is still in the glass case. So he either didn't have enough money or didn't have enough time. If he had to rush without something as important as a silencer, he really had to hurry. But it wouldn't make sense for a gang only using mutant quirks to need gun parts.

"They only used mutant types, right? No weapons?" Roger nodded. "Then why would he be getting them a gun. And if he was robbing people and risking going to jail, then he really needed to get these things. I don't think he was doing this for the gang, but for somebody else. What kind of guns did he take?"

"Two pistols."

"So no long ranged weapons?"

"No."

Ace thought hard about this before he was taken to the next place. It was a clothing store. He stole an overcoat. "He would probably buy this to conceal the guns, as it's not cold outside enough for a coat this heavy. So he was walking a distance if he had to conceal it like that… Are there any other gangs nearby? Maybe villain bases?"

"Yup! The suspect was finally found at a villain base," Roger said. "Congrats!"

"No way, I got them all right?!"

"Yeah, you did."

Ace was shocked. He never thought he was super smart, it was always Sabo who got the better grades. "But I'm not that smart." He couldn't believe it. Roger said there was a difference between book smart and getting good grades compared to this kind of smart. Ace was feeling so useful. Could he really be a help like this? Not just with his quirk, but with his mind?

"The best heroes are both the strongest and the sharpest! Come, let's go back, it's getting late. I'm so impressed, Ace. Truly." Ace blushed.

"I like being useful," Ace said.

"Then you will be very useful in the future," Roger replied. They flew back to the agency, and Roger didn't make him write everything down, he'd been recording it. Writing things like that down were harder than just recording it, since it was mostly talking. So he didn't need to write a report.

There were a bunch of muffins in a bin in the corner by the office. "Go ahead and have one, my wife made them," he said jovially. Ace took one and ate it slowly. It was good. It was moist and soft in the middle. "Now, I want you to go home and keep reminding yourself of the utter successes of today. If you ever feel unsure about a hunch, remember that you solved three mysteries in a short period of time for the first try."

Ace nodded, and changed out of his clothes. He bowed with a smile, and left, looking forward to the next day. When he told his friends about that day, all of them were feeling jealous. Marco especially, and Midoriya was bummed he didn't have a teacher like Roger. Marco liked Hawks, but they definitely weren't doing such detailed exercises.
