The night was dark and the post-rain haze cooled the air around them.

Marinette was found once again standing in front of Chat Noir with a worn out piece of paper in her hand. She fidgeted for a moment before taking a deep breath.

It's fine. it's just Chat Noir. It's just practice.

"You'll get it right this time, Marinette." Chat gave her an encouraging smile.

She nodded and started to read off her confession as dramatic as she could, "Since the first day we met, I have three suns in my heart. And they shine so bright as soon as I see you!"

Marinette paused in her tracks and looked away. It didn't feel right.

"What's wrong, Marinette? You had a great start," the hero asked, concerned.

She sighed, "It doesn't sound like me...not really."

Chat gave her an understanding smile, "The most important thing about a confession is that it should come from the heart, Marinette."

"You've got a big heart and lots of love to give. You can do it, Marinette," the feline continued.

"Okay," she whispered in a small voice.

Marinette took in a deep breath.

"The day we met, I judged you badly." Marinette sighed, remembering that day in vivid colors.

That day had been a huge mess. It had been stressful and she'd spiraled into really bad Marinette Meltdowns. But it was okay. Her Kitty got her through it like he always does. She's beyond thankful for having him by her side, as Ladybug and as Marinette.

She stared into his green eyes and continued. "I found you pretentious and superficial."

Flashes of their memories together danced in front of her eyes. Evillustrator, Glaciator's first akumatization, Weredad. She stifled a giggle.

"Someone gentle, honest, and generous."

She remembered the way Chat held her the night he brought her to that candle lit rooftop. She remembered the way Chat gave her a safe space to just rant about her insecurities in the theater today.

She saw that Chat was staring at her softly and she smiled tenderly.

Who was she trying to confess to again? Adrien or . . . Chat?

"And ever since, I've been trying to tell you something."

She clutched her head in frustration. "Except that everytime I try, it's like my brain is breaking." And I end up pushing you away and making you sad.

She felt resolve wash over her in waves. Her determination getting stronger each passing moment. "But this time, I think I'm ready!"

"Je t'aime." She smiled. "Je suis amoureux de vous, Cha—"

Wait. Did she really almost say—?

"Je t'aime aussi, Marinette." Chat seemed to breathe out in a daze, before catching himself. "Is what that boy would say once you confess!" The hero laughed unconvincingly.

Their gazes flitted to each other then away, cheeks heated. trying to look at anything other than than their friend.

"Anyway," Chat leaned close, attempting to regain his bravado but only digging his own grave once he got lost in Marinette's ocean blue eyes. "The person you're in love with is lucky," he murmured.

"Thank you. The person who'll fall in love with you is lucky too," she whispered, entranced.

Is it just her or did they start leaning towards each other?

She stepped even closer.

Chat's lips are right there.

She placed her hands on his chest.

Looking so enticing, glistening like that under her fairy lights.

His gloved hand came to cup her cheek.

It should be a crime to make her feel this way.

"Marinette!" Her father bellowed from below, causing them to jump apart in fright.

Chat cleared his throat. "I'll be going now. See you around, Marinette." He kneeled and kissed her knuckles before jumping off her railing and disappearing into the night.

She clutched her hand to her chest. Her fingers burning with the small invisible imprint of a kiss.

What just happened? She's in love with Adrien. Just Adrien....Right?
