A/N: The first chapter was supposed to be a one shot and this one was supposed to be a separate story, but right before I posted, I thought of combining them.
Trying out a new writing style, gimme reviews :)
P.S. I edited a few grammatical errors. I wrote this at 1AM, I'm so sorry :((
Once again, Marinette was found sitting alongside her best friend Chat Noir, this time watching the sun set from her balcony. They were laughing together at a joke the hero said.
"Oh my god! Remember a few years ago? When you helped me practice how to confess to my crush? Those were good times!" Marinette giggled.
"Oh yeah! That was like, what, three years ago?" Chat grinned.
"Yes! God, I was so embarrassing during that Marinette Era," she groaned.
"You know, we never really got around to that ex-crush of yours. What happened with him, anyway?" The hero prodded.
Marinette stood up and leaned on the railing, staring at the orange-pink sky wistfully as Chat stared at the girl with eyes tendered by the secret love he held for her.
Marinette sighed and looked back at him with a soft smile as he stood up to stand beside her, right where he belonged.
God, that smile. It made his heart flip and his nerves go haywire in the best possible way.
"I never confessed. It's quite funny actually. Not long after that night, I figured out that my heart was pointing me in a completely different and unexpected direction."
"I know how you feel, Princess."
He did. Of course he did. Because that's exactly what happened to him.
He saw her after that confession. Really, actually, saw her. He noticed her smile, and her kindness, and her wit, and her eyes, and her lips, and her.
He noticed her.
The realization had felt like a semi-truck crashing into his chest . . . but it also felt like a final puzzle piece fitting snugly into place.
It felt right.
"You? You finally got over Ladybug? That's the news of the century." She tried to sound sarcastic but she failed to hide the slightest hint of heartbreak in her tone. She just hoped his oblivious nature wouldn't notice.
Chat gave her his signature grin and it sent butterflies fluttering down her spine.
"Yeah, plaster that all over billboards: 'Chat Noir finally gets over Ladybug but falls in love with someone just as unattainable.'" His head fell in dejection.
"Y-you fell in love with someone else?" It's been so long since she's stammered.
Chat turned his head to look at her, humming in confirmation. "Ladybug told me to get over her, and I respected that. Problem is, I'm now currently head over heels for someone just as, if not much more unattainable."
Chat chuckled humorlessly and it shattered her heart. "I climbed my way out of an unrequited love, just to fall back into another."
"I guess I have a type for strong, amazing, beautiful, blue eyed girls that'll never love me back," he continued.
She wanted to kick herself. She pushed him away as Ladybug and now her chances with him was shot to pieces. Not to mention he's apparently in love with some goddess on Earth.
"I would've congratulated us for you getting over Ladybug and me over Adrien, but it looks like we have the worst luck when it comes to the love lottery." She stepped close and let her head fall on his leather-covered shoulder.
After a few short ticks, the hero suddenly perked up. "Adrien? As in, Adrien 'Golden Boy' Agreste? That Adrien?"
Her brows furrowed in confusion as she raised her head to stare at him. "Yes, Kitty. That Adrien."
An odd sort of happiness danced on his features before his face ever so slowly fell like a lit candle slowly being snuffed out.
Her hands automatically went to cup his face, her thumbs caressing his cheekbones gently.
"What's wrong? Talk to me, Kitty."
He gave her a sad smile. "Nothing, I just—" he sighed. "I was just thinking about how lucky Adrien Agreste was and he didn't even realize it."
She laughed as she brushed and combed his hair out of his green eyes.
Oh, heavens that laugh.
The way her eyes light up and sparkle in the most stunning way possible. It made him weak in the knees for her and only her.
Each brush of the pad of her fingertips on his bare skin sends tingles through every part of his being.
"I really don't think Adrien Agreste was lucky having his Just-A-Friend Marinette stumbling and stuttering around him all the time. Especially with much more gorgeous girls vying for his attention," she giggled but he only frowned in disapproval.
His hand came up to clutch one of hers closer to his cheek, nuzzling it slowly, eyes falling shut.
"You don't know, do you?" he murmured just loud enough for her to hear, like it was a secret only they had the right to know.
"Know what?" She asked softly.
"That you're Marinette Dupain-Cheng."
She let out a small snort. "Of course I—"
He cut her off. "You're Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Kind, lovely, pretty, talented, smart, Marinette."
His eyes fluttered open just in time to see her blush. And it looked like the warm pink sky seeped prettily onto her cheeks.
Marinette had fireworks exploding in her system. His eyes were so green, and it seemed like he could see right through her thoughts like she was made of glass.
She attempted to withdraw her hands and look away but Chat Noir caught them again. He planted small, butterfly pecks on every single one of her fingers, before he placed them back on his cheeks.
What were they talking about again?
"You're you, Princess. That makes him luckier than anyone will ever be. I'm just sorry he didn't see that." His eyes were oh so soft.
"High flattery from the literal savior of Paris." She grinned.
He leaned forward to press a quick kiss to her forehead. "That's right. I, Chat Noir, shall beat up any guy who doesn't return your feelings. Because how dare they hurt My Princesse?"
She chuckled at his antics, shaking her head lightly in amusement. You'd have to beat yourself up then, Silly Kitty.
"What?" Chat asked, surprise coating his voice.
"What?" She shot back in genuine confusion.
Did she—did she say that out loud?
Her hands loosened and started to fall away from his face but he went and pressed them back.
"Please, Princess. Say it again. I need to make sure I'm not losing my sanity," Chat pleaded.
"I—I can't." She's always been terrified of rejection, I guess that part of her hasn't changed one bit.
So, she looked deep into his vivid emerald greens, trying to convey everything her lips refused to say.
She saw the instant realization dawned on him, or much rather—felt. Because her Kitty's lips descended on hers like an angel's gift from the heavens.
She froze for a mere fraction of a moment, because all she could think about was—oh.
She kissed him back. Slowly, softly, tentatively. The kiss was hesitant, as if both of them were in awe that this was actually happening. That this perfect moment was real.
Eventually, they gained more confidence. Her fingers twined through his golden locks while his gloved palms found their home at the small of her back.
His lips were so sweet, and soft, and pliant, and just perfect. It was better than everything she could ever dream of. He was better than everything she could ever dream of.
The need for air had them pulling apart but not away. They remained in the other's arms. In that secure bubble of their embrace, where no one could harm them.
They stared at each other, getting lost in forest greens and drowning in ocean blues. Goofy grins creeped up onto their lips and they fell apart in fits of giggles.
Chat leaned forward and bestowed a featherlight peck on her reddened lips. "Well, I guess it wasn't unrequited after all."
"No, I guess it wasn't." Her smile threatened to split her face as her voice radiated pure sunshine-like joy.
He brushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Three years ago, I said the boy you love was lucky."
She smiled, reminiscent. "And I said whoever falls in love with you is also lucky."
"I think we were wrong about having bad luck when it comes to the Love Lottery."
He leaned close, their lips a hair's breadth apart.
"Because as long as I'm lucky in love with you, I feel like I've won the jackpot."
