AN: Hi, to whoever may be reading this! I had a few things I wanted to state before getting on with the fic. For one this is the first story I've written with the intention of posting and admittedly I'm still not sure where I want to go with the story. Being very new to this kind of thing I would love to hear any advice or suggestions you have. Don't worry I have thick skin and would like to improve my writing. With that being said, I hope you enjoy this fic! :D
Naoto sat at his desk in his bedroom typing on his laptop. He was working on a presentation that he'd been assigned for his art class.
The purpose of the assignment, as described by the teacher, was to create an art presentation on something they'd like to accomplish in their life. A few examples had been given such as graduating college, getting your dream job, or whatever.
Naoto, having experience in art exhibits due to being in the art club, figured this assignment would be an easy A. However, now that he was staring the beast in the face, he realized this wasn't going to be as easy as he'd hoped.
When it came down to it, Naoto had no idea what his goal in life was. He lived a very day to day life. Most of his goals consisted of waiting for the next game to come out, getting a good score on his exams, or just surviving Nagatoro's teasing assaults.
"Nagatoro.." Naoto muttered to himself.
This girl who had practically appeared from thin air, had very quickly become a part of his daily routine. Whether he'd wanted it or not. What started out as an admittedly uncomfortable relationship, for him at least, had progressed into something different. He admittedly wasn't sure what to call it. So much of the last year had revolved around his interactions with this girl who seemed to enjoy his discomfort to an extreme degree. Whether it be her modeling for him in the art club or just spending time together somewhere around town, she almost always found a way to tease or make fun of him.
Despite this however, he couldn't help but find himself growing attached to his 'tormentor'. Truly he didn't hate it as much as he would've expected. Having someone he could talk to, hang out with, and be himself with was really nice.
On days where Naoto was feeling particularly lonely or depressed, he found himself almost praying she'd stop by and spend time with him, teasing and all. Though, he'd never admit to it lest he be barraged with claims of being called gross and a pervert.
Attempting to refocus on the task at hand, Naoto readjusted himself and stared at the blank presentation on his laptop and began to ponder ideas.
"Doing a whole art presentation on the next game or test score would be stupid." Naoto said to himself.
He sat and pondered, thinking of a solution, and looked back at his phone. With Nagatoro still in his mind, he thought back to the good advice she had given him in the past. Despite her teasing she had given him valuable lessons to learn from, such as learning to complement other people to receive his own.
"Maybe she'll have a good idea." He thought to himself while picking up his phone. Tapping on the LINE app, he navigated to his conversation with Nagatoro and began to type up a message.
"Hey, are you busy right now?"
After the message had been sent he noticed the message was almost immediately seen. She must've already been on her phone, maybe she was about to send him a message? Naoto dismissed the thought from his mind and watched as Nagatoro began typing up a response. His phone vibrated as her message was delivered.
"Not really, just eating dinner. What's up?"
Quickly followed by:
"Knowing you Senpai, it's probably something pervy!" and the 'Gross' cat emoji.
Naoto's face flushed and he quickly responded with:
"It's nothing pervy! I was just hoping you could give me some advice."
Nagatoro responded with:
"Haha, suuure Senpai! Whatever you say."
"What can your cute kohai help you with?"
Naoto sighed and shook his head, she really was able to push his buttons without much effort. Looking back at his phone he typed out his response.
"Well I've been assigned a project for my art class and I'm struggling to figure out a subject for it. I was hoping you could give some suggestions."
After hitting send he realized he hadn't actually said what the project was on and quickly typed up a follow up message saying:
"Oh also, the assignment is supposed to be on a goal we have in life."
However much to his annoyment the message had a little error symbol underneath it indicating it hadn't been sent properly. Just as he was about to resend the message, Nagatoro's response came through.
"You're asking me for art advice? Silly Senpai aren't you supposed to be the expert? Besides, it seems like you already have your answer."
Naoto confused by this asked:
"What do you mean?"
"Well, what did you do most of your art projects on hmm? Could it happen to be the cute Kohai you're texting right now?"
Naoto read the message and began to type up a response when the realization of what she was saying hit him.
"Wait, she's right." He said.
He thought of the experiences of the last year as he came to the realization that she was the subject of almost all his art. But was she… a goal? Was she something he wanted?
Naoto quickly deleted what he'd typed before and then quickly responded to her with:
"That's a good point, if you're okay with it, I think you'd be perfect for this project."
Just after he hit send on the message he noticed that a second message had been sent by him. Reading over it, his face began to turn a scarlet red, filled with pure embarrassed terror.
"Oh also, the assignment is supposed to be on a goal we have in life." the message that failed to send properly.
"Oh shit." He said putting his hand to his head.
Hayase stared at the messages that had just appeared on her phone. Her face a rosey shade of red from what she read. She was thankful she had chosen to eat dinner in her room or she'd no doubt would have had her whole family teasing her.
"Had.. Had he, her Senpai, just admitted that she was a goal in his life?" She read the messages again, once, twice, thrice. While not explicitly stated, it was almost implied. Hayase beamed to herself, butterflies in her stomach. Her face still a brilliant shade of red, she quickly collected herself and began tapping away on her phone. There was no way he was getting out of this unscathed.
"What are you saying creepy Senpai? Are you saying i'm a goal in your life?! Eww! Gross, gross, gross!"
A response from Naoto quickly came. "No no no! It was an accident! That message wasn't supposed to be sent!"
Hayase's grin continued to grow, she could practically feel him freaking out on the other end of the screen. He had continued to dig himself a deeper hole.
"Not supposed to send, huh? That makes you sound even more sus!" She giggled to herself after sending the message. She was enjoying this. That being said though, she didn't want to take it too far. She didn't want him to think she wasn't interested. Despite the fact it wasn't intentional on his part, she was gonna milk this for what it was worth.
"Does that mean you don't want me to be your subject? Am I not your 'Goal', Senpai?"
She could practically feel the embarrassment her Senpai was experiencing right now as it appeared he'd tried to type a response a few times. But finally his answer appeared.
"No, that's not what I meant. You are my goal.. In a way."
That one even took her off guard. He wasn't typically this forward with his thoughts about her. She continued to press him.
"In what way Senpai?"
Naoto was pacing around in his room thinking of a good response when he heard a knock on his bedroom door. He opened the door to see his Mother on the other side.
"Hey Hun, everything okay?" She asked "You've been pacing for five minutes straight."
"Y-Yeah I'm okay, just um.. working on my art project." He responded hoping it sounded convincing.
A small smirk appeared on his mother's face and she responded with "Are you sure? You don't usually get this worked up about art unless it involves that cute girl you had over."
Naoto flushed, damnit what's with the women in his life being so perceptive? "N-No! It's.. just.. Um.. I was just hoping a little exercise would help me focus!"
The smirk on his mother's face grew to a grin as she said "Ah, I see." clearly she knew he was lying but rather than pushing it she said. "Well, in that case I'll leave you to it. Good luck hun." Naoto's mother walked away from his door and he closed the door behind her, flushed with embarrassment. "Damn I'm bad at that." He thought.
Naoto glanced over at his phone and noticed a flashing light indicating a message from Nagatoro he'd missed. He walked to his desk and picked up his phone and read the message.
"C'mon Senpai! Don't leave a girl hanging, you're not that much of a virgin are you?!"
Naoto sighed to himself, her teasing was insatiable. He decided the best course of action was to just downplay it and hopefully she'd believe him.
"Sorry! I was talking to my mom, I meant you're a goal in the way you handle yourself. You're very driven towards what you want and I wanted to emulate that."
Hayase read over his message and pursed her mouth in disappointment. Disappointed at what, she wasn't entirely sure. She just knew that wasn't what she wanted him to say.
"Are you sure that's what you meant Senpai? That seems almost too normal to be something you'd say. I was expecting something much pervier."
She admittedly wasn't sure why she kept pressing him on this. Regardless of his reason for wanting to have her as his subject, she knew she'd accept. The look of concentration he made when he was focused on his artwork made it all worth it. Her phone's notification sound went off with Naoto's response.
"Really! That's all I meant, promise!"
Hayase huffed after reading his response. That still wasn't what she wanted to see. In fairness though she didn't even know what she wanted him to say.
"Okaaaay Senpai, I suppose I'll let it slide this time. Don't say I don't do anything nice for you!"
Hayase set her phone down and let out a sigh. She had hoped beyond hope that maybe he'd meant that she was his goal in a different way. That maybe he meant it in a.. romantic way. "Oh god he'd spread the gross." she thought.
"So what's your plan then? With Judo I don't really have the time to stop by the art club and model for you.."
Naoto took a minute and responded with:
"Ah right, I had forgotten about that. Maybe, if you're not busy, we could make plans for it this weekend?"
Now that had made Hayase happy. She loved any time being around her Senpai, having an excuse to spend even more time with him besides the time they spent at school was a big win in her book.
"Yeah that should work! I'm free this whole weekend." then, realizing she had a chance to tease him a little bit more, she added. "Where would you like to meet up then?"
Naoto sat and mulled over the question. Admittedly he wasn't sure where he'd like to meet up. Considering he was going to be drawing her, it needed to be somewhere private where they wouldn't get interrupted. The thought brought a blush to his face. "I'm being gross." He said aloud to himself.
There were admittedly two 'good' options. He could invite Nagatoro over to his house but his parents were going to be home all weekend, and he didn't need the stress of introducing them to his Kohai. The second option being… Nagatoro's house.
While the thought of having to introduce Nagatoro to his parents was uncomfortable. Being fully introduced to Nagatoro's family made him sweat with fear. If Nagatoro and her sister were anything to go off of, he'd have better odds among a family of hungry wolves. Once again he was at an impasse.
Inviting Nagatoro to his house would be embarrassing in it's own right, Nagatoro would have a field day teasing him. But asking to come over to her house was also a scary thought, not to mention the denizens that awaited him there.
After pondering it for a minute he decided just to be honest with the girl and ask what she preferred. One way or another he wasn't coming out of this experience unscathed.
"Well, I guess that kind of depends. The way I see it, the best spots would be either your house or mine." Naoto braced himself for what was surely coming.
"Wow, Senpai! I guess I should've expected something so sleazy from a virgin like you! Not only did you have the gumption to invite me to your house, you simultaneously asked to come to my house! You're so gross! Pervy Senpai~!"
Naoto felt his face warm with a bit of both irritation and embarrassment. He quickly typed up a response:
"Well, I mean if you have any ideas. I'd love to hear them!"
Nagatoro's response came quickly after:
"Hahaha, sorry Senpai! Here, give me a minute. I'll go ask my family their plans for the weekend."
After about five minutes of waiting Naoto's phone buzzed with another message.
"My parent's have plans with an old highschool friend this weekend and my siblings both have work so we should be free here if you want Senpai~."
Naoto breathed a sigh of relief. It seems the fates were smiling on him, he quickly sent a response.
"That sounds perfect, let's plan on that then if you're sure it's okay."
After a moment Nagatoro's answer came.
"'Perfect' huh? Geez what are you planning pervy Senpai! Do you have something gross in mind?!"
"I don't have anything pervy planned! Why do you keep jumping to that conclusion!"
"Hahaha, okaaay Senpai~ Whatever you say. Just know I'll be keeping a close eye on you this weekend."
Naoto sighed to himself. What was he getting himself into, he wondered.
And that's all I've got for right now! Like I said I'd really appreciate any suggestions or advice. Whether they be grammatical, story related or whatever. Thank you for reading!
