To state that she's bored out of her mind, is the biggest understatement of the year. Class has ended, Evgenia is talking to a group of parents as they await their children to change. Zia is on the phone, which leaves Skye to her own mind since neither of her siblings have yet to grace her with their appearance.
She knew they would end up late, both Natasha and Clint is away on a mission and it was rare that Maria managed to leave the office on time. But Skye likes it at the dance studio, both Evgenia and Zia adores her and always bring her with them if she haven't been picked up on time.
"Hi!"
At the sudden voice, she freezes up. She had been watching her own feet and didn't realise that someone had walking up to her. Looking up, she's meet with a smiling girl, standing right in front of her. Blinking a few times, she tries to remember if she has met this woman before only to end up empty. Taking her in, her blond hair is still in a bun after the lesson and her blue eyes is sparkling with mischief.
She had not seen the girl the day when Natasha had shown up during class, but she had seen her a few times after. After the whole Natasha being in class round, she has been making sure to keep to herself, because the other kids have been trying to be friendly with her and the only thing, they would ask about is Natasha.
"Hi?"
"I'm Gwen Stacy!"
"Skye."
To her surprise, Gwen takes the seat next to her.
"So, how long have you been dancing? I started quiet recently, but I haven't seen you around until the other day and you are already much more a head than the rest of the class."
The girl continues to speak, making Skye blink a few times out of surprise.
"You haven't heard what the others have been saying?"
Seeing how Gwen turns to look at the other children in their class, she narrows her eyes and shakes her head.
"Nah, I don't listen to gossip and even if it happens to be true, I don't think people should judge others because of something like that."
Blinking a few more times, Skye tries to figure out if the girl beside her had heard the others talk about her and Natasha dancing in class or not. The smile and wink made her just more confused.
"My dad is a police officer; he keeps telling me to always find out the truth myself and not listening to anything anyone else is saying."
Gwen explains, making Skye feel a bit better. Looking around her, she could however not see a person that would pass a police officer in her eyes.
"He's running late, and how about your own family?"
"One of my siblings will come and pick me up once they are done with work, until then I usually hang out with Evgenia and Zia."
She explains, surprising herself that she has even told the girl this news. But somehow, she couldn't help herself, she could tell that the girl beside her is something special. She has the same type of aura as Maria, and there's the same type of glint that Natasha and Clint share. The glint of mischief and mayhem that she had come to love.
"You know, next time you should come with me home! A bit more fun than sitting around here, at least, I think. I have no idea; I started a month ago."
Gwen explains, her head turning towards Evgenia and Zia.
"They seem very nice at least, dad or mum is usually here to pick me up directly after class is over so. I don't really want to dance; I would much rather play drums or something like that. But no, I have to do ballet."
Her voice is heavy with dread, making Skye laugh slightly. She had a feeling most of the kids in her class is here only because their parents wish it, she seemed to be the only one to be going of her own free will. Then again, she has been training since the day Melinda had given her a clear that she could start. Remembering back to that day, made her smile sadly, she missed those days. Missed living together with Melinda, even if she loved living with her siblings, it was more controlled and calm living together with Melinda. She would even want to return to living with Phil, it was a bit more controlled than what she had grown used to know.
"Evgenia and Zia are nice, I have gone to this studio for a while now. Evgenia and one of my sisters are close friends so she got me in. I have been dancing a while before that happened to with said sister so."
Skye explains, looking over towards Evgenia and Zia, both women have yet to move from what they hade been doing earlier. It still felt weird to be talking to anyone else in the building. She never thought she would ever manage to find a friend her own age, she had given up on that hope years ago, with how many schools she has changed during her lifetime so far. Knowing that she finally has a permanent home, she might as well give the friendship a try. At least Gwen seems to be happy to be her friend so far.
Hearing the door opening, both of their heads turn to see a man dressed in police uniform. Glancing towards Gwen and seeing her smile, Skye is sure the man who have just entered is her father. Gwen quickly rises from the bench and runs over to her father, hugging her father happily. Seeing them, Skye smiles slightly, happy to see her new friend happy.
"Dad, meet my new friend Skye!"
Hearing her name, Skye looks up once more, surprised that Gwen is already talking about her to her father. Seeing how Gwen is pulling the man towards her, Skye can't help but to freeze up slightly, out of old habit and she can't help but to shrink down slightly where she's sitting. She is quite sure that Gwen doesn't realises her sudden change in behaviour, but as she glances up at her father, Skye can see the moment he realises that something is wrong.
"Gwen, why don't you go and change."
Gwen nods her head before running of Skye didn't like this and she could feel the man's eyes on her. She didn't have to worry for long, the door opens once more and from the corner of her eye she can see Maria enter. Seeing how her sisters' eyes lands on her, Maria is right beside her within seconds, ending up standing between her and Gwen's father.
Looking at the two grown-ups, she can see a silent fight is going on between the two of them and Skye starts to wounder if she should be worried. She is very aware that Maria can take care of this, but the fact that this is right now a stand of between a police officer and a S.H.I.E.L.D agent isn't a good one. Then there's the fact that Maria is only doing this because she's trying to protect her, a person that she, Natasha, Clint and Victoria have gone great length to make sure she doesn't exist anymore.
"Is that your sister?"
Hearing Gwen's voice once more, Skye turns her attention towards the side, eyes landing on Gwen, back into normal clothes and her hair down this time around. Nodding her head carefully, Gwen smiles big and walks over to the three of us. Glancing towards Maria, she's still worried about what is going on in front of her, but her worry soon turns into surprise when Gwen hugs her.
"I'll see you next week then!"
Nodding her head, still in quite the surprise. Seeing Gwen smile big towards her once more before turning around to pull her father with her. Looking after her friend, Skye starts to second guess if having a friend will be worth it all in the end.
"Who was that?"
"My new friend, I think."
Hearing what she said, Maria quickly turns to look at her, eyes grown big out of surprised.
"A friend? You managed to make a friend?"
Skye can't help but to roll her eyes, she should have known this was going to be the type of reaction she would get. Shaking her head, she grabs hold of her bag and rises from the bench.
"Can we just go home now?"
"You managed to make a friend, a friend whose father is working for the police?"
"Can we please."
She didn't want to have this conversation, at least not out in the open like this. She knows very well however that once they get home and Natasha and Clint returns, Maria will tell them about what she has just learned. And deep down, she isn't looking forwards to this conversation. Maria she would be able to handle, Natasha and Clint as an add on is to much. Turning around, she waves towards Evgenia and Zia, seeing the two waves back she leaves the building with Maria.
Entering the car that Maria have parked right outside of the building, she leans back, turning her head towards the window. Feeling how Maria is looking at her, she turns her head to look at her sister.
"She seems nice at least, and if you somehow managed to open up this much to her in just a day, I know she's a good person."
Maria starts to speak as she starts the car, making her smile slightly.
"She offered me to come with her home next time neither of you three can show up once the class is over, she thinks it would be more fun if I could go with her home instead of hanging out with Evgenia and Zia."
Skye stars to explain and she can feel Maria's eyes on her once more, this time through the review mirror. Knowing what question is going through her older sister's head in that moment, Skye just shakes her head.
"How about I keep coming to pick you up for the next couple of weeks so that I can talk to her father and at the same time help you out. If he's a police officer, at least you will be safe. Maybe not as safe as you are with me, Tasha and Clint, but still safe enough."
Hearing this, Skye lifts her head in surprise. She wasn't expecting to hear this from Maria, and she starts to smile bigger this time around.
"What's your friends name?"
"Gwen, Gwen Stacy."
She replies, only to realise that Maria had asked the question to figure out what type of name she would have to do research for before she stars to talk to the man, and she rolls her eyes once more. Reaching the apartment, Maria is the first one to leave the car. Having the door open for her, they enter the building and heads for the elevator doors. As they enter, Skye jumps slightly so she can push the button for the fourth floor, and they waited in silence.
As the door opens once more, Skye steps out and takes a step to the side, letting Maria opening the door. It was kind of ridiculous how many security measures they have on the door, but she knows very well that they are all needed. As the door swings open, they can hear that Natasha and Clint are already back.
"We're home!"
Maria calls out, she lets Skye enter firs before she closes the door behind her. Skye puts her bag down and stars to take of her shoes as she hears Natasha and Clint coming over to them.
"You'll never guess what happened today."
Maria starts to say, making Skye freeze up slightly. Couldn't she have waited until they were at least in the living room and not standing in the hallway. Seeing the confused look in her sister and brothers' eyes, Skye lowers her head to wait for what's about to come.
"Our little girl here managed to make a friend with someone in her own age."
"WHAT!"
And there it was, all she wanted to do now was to hide in her room so she could skip all the questions that were only seconds away to being asked.
