Alright! It's time for me to write one of these! After all, it would only be appropriate to commemorate my twentieth work in total for my profile, right?
I've never really written a song-fic before, but I have a vague idea of where I'm going with this! I'm pretty much strapping a blindfold on myself whilst typing on my keyboard when it comes to what I see if that makes sense. I'll be listening to the song this is based around, imagining things that go with it whilst sticking to the lyrics as I listen to it on repeat.
Speaking of which! The scenery! This is post-KFP-3 and will be based around Po and Tigress at their wedding. For some reason, I feel like this is the best setting to base around this song because it fits that whole vibe of it fulfilling a romantic journey! - This will be my shortest one-shot yet as I'm quite unfamiliar with the pacing of these things but hey- let's make something beautiful!
As a quick disclaimer, I do not own the song nor do I own the intellectual rights of Kung Fu Panda, nor am I affiliated with Dreamworks, NBC (Peacock) or any other subsidiaries. This is purely written for fun, however, anyone claiming to be a moderator taking this down will have their reviews removed or will be blocked from viewing my profile. If you are Evan Fong, otherwise known as Rynx, I will happily take down this work upon request if absolutely necessary.
Time for me to quit rambling and to get into this! I hope you all enjoy this elaborate mess of spaghetti that is destined to be this short one-shot and I'll see you all on the other side!
Song: Rynx - I'm Alright
I'm Alright
A crisp golden sunset bestowed upon China by the late Master Oogway himself filled the sunlit sky. Its darker orange hue was in great contrast with the tanned skyline above as the twinkling stars of the night sky could be seen flowing in from the opposite side. The Valley of Peace was gathered at the foot of the Jade Palace per Po's request… On this evening, Tigress and Po had lined up to take their vows and to marry one another; to become newlyweds and officially coupled as one.
Po and Tigress rigorously scanned the books relating to the Dragon Warrior code of honour, especially regarding marriage. Due to Master Tigress being a master of the Jade Palace as well as possessing the required skills to protect herself, she was officially declared a suitable match for the Dragon Warrior by the Masters' Council and therefore she could safely marry the Dragon Warrior without him losing his rank.
However, Po had made it clear on multiple occasions that he would give everything for his feline lover… That happened to include the sacred role of the Dragon Warrior. From the first day he met Tigress, he thought he would just become one of those people Tigress had shut out of her life due to her competitive nature. He had practically usurped the role of Dragon Warrior from beneath her feet thanks to Master Oogway's sacred prophecy.
The Dragon Warrior still remembers those restless nights inside of the Jade Palace mere days after defeating Tai Lung. He may have earned her respect but those nights of constantly hearing his idol doubt herself and her abilities to be the Dragon Warrior and the fact some panda was able to defeat the menace she had been training her entire life for had thrown her off balance.
However, when stepping onto that podium in front of Mantis, watching the lady and love of his life walk forward whilst she sat inside of a gorgeous red, gold and white dress… He forgot about the past. He channelled all of the wisdom he had obtained from the past four years serving as the Dragon Warrior and his mind was fixated on the amber orbs sitting in front of him.
"Master Tigress… Do you take Po 'Lotus' Ping as your faithful husband and companion for life?" Mantis wisely spoke, with a beaming smile plastered on his face whilst Tigress nodded, smiled and focused on the Dragon Warrior.
"I do. My perspective of the world has been forever changed for the better thanks to this man. I used to think darkness would always consume me, now I see the one who shines as my bright light… To ward off the darkness around me," Tigress gently raised her hand as her eyes became teary alongside the Dragon Warrior's own jade orbs.
"Po… Do you take Master Tigress to be your faithful wife and companion for life?" Mantis proudly turned his head and smiled as Po nodded, cleared a tear from both of his glistening eyes and smiled.
"I do. Without this wonderful woman in my life… I quite honestly don't know where I'd be. I know I'd have the wing of my father to guide me when it comes to running a noodle shop but- would I truly be happy? No offence, dad. Tigress has kept me as the optimistic panda that I am purely thanks to the fact I had someone to look up to and it blows my mind how we're now here… Joining paws to be wed!" Po's smile beamed as Tigress awaited the inevitable.
"Very well. Po Ping, Master Tigress… I officially declare you husband and wife. Po, you may kiss the bride. Tigress, you may- you're already doing it, okay!" Mantis stepped down from the wooden podium he was reading his wedding script off as Tigress and Po shared a passionate, mighty and love-filled kiss whilst the sunset shimmered against their fur. The victorious melody of newly-declared matrimony sung throughout the valley as Po and Tigress finally disconnected from their kiss.
"Here comes the fun part!" Po commented as the music settled down into a more smooth rhythm with the Erhu players settling into a melodic hum.
"Wait what- fun part? I thought this was the fun part!" Tigress held up her joined paw with Po whilst raising her eyebrow.
"Oh, no… You're going to sing," Po winked whilst rushing Tigress to the podium at the front of this elaborately decorated wooden stage.
"Sing? Po! I don't know how to sing! You got me here just to humiliate me, didn't you?" Tigress scowled at the Dragon Warrior whilst squeezing his paws tight. "I have a song in mind but I swear to the Spirit Realm if you ever pull this on me again… I will break those paws of yours and reduce them to dust," Tigress' anger merely humoured Po as he cackled.
"It's good to know that you're agreeing! Don't worry, Ti… Or should I say, babe-" Tigress growled under her breath after Po's sly comment. "Okay, okay, I got it! I'll be back here if you need anything!" Po brought an Erhu to his chest as a musical band filled with geese and pigs rushed the stage. With a few instructions from Po, the music band followed his command and played along with him.
"Alright everyone… I've never exactly sung before and I know the Dragon Warrior has put me up to this purely to shame me. However, if there's one important theme that I should follow alongside my Dragon Warrior on this night… It's the fact I would like to make him happy and I know this will suffice," Tigress cleared her throat, listened to the slow jam of the Erhu players behind her and made one more final remark. "If any of you laugh at me, I will not hesitate to reduce you to dust. Alright, let's get this over with," Tigress took hold of Po's jade yin-yang staff to use it as a makeshift microphone to sing in front of as she swayed to the music, eventually gathering her thoughts and beginning her lyrical masterpiece.
"They can't put no walls around us, when the ceiling comes crashing down," Tigress acted out the motion of her paws crushing up the air. "And the roads they paved, they paved too fast for us… You've gotta prove it if you're fast enough," Tigress gently gripped the yin-yang staff and held it tight in her paws. "And all my life I couldn't recognize, that all these people walking around are living lies… And this time I couldn't recognize..." Tigress backflipped onto the podium before performing the splits.
"That I'm alright… Yeah, I'm alright!" She lifted herself from her feet and started grooving to the beat of the music behind her. "Yeah, I'm alright, I'm alright!" She impressed the crowd with her dance moves as she turned towards Po, winked and continued her passionate singing.
"They won't know where to find us, 'cause they keep on looking down… And what's a game if it's so serious? - If we're to blame then what do you see in us? - You follow rules and that's not fine by us… We're living loud 'cause we can't get enough," Tigress slid around on the stage before proudly posing in front of the crowd of villagers. "And all my life I couldn't recognize, that all these people walking around are living lies… And this time I couldn't recognize… That I'm alright, yeah, I'm alright!" Tigress stepped back to begin her dance moves yet again, being greeted by a thunderous cheer from the crowd.
"Yeah, I'm alright… I'm alright!" She continued to rock out for a few seconds whilst peering back at her smiling panda husband. "Yeah, I'm alright… I'm alright!" She took a moment to step back and become one with the band as the music slowed down alongside her pacing relaxing a little bit. She observed Po leave his seat and smirk at her.
"And all my life I couldn't recognize, that all these people walking around are living lies… And this time I couldn't recognize… Yeah, I'm alright!" To Tigress' amazement, Po joined hands with her, led her to the front of the podium to rock out with her… Pointed towards the band and started performing an Erhu solo to the beat of the song.
Po and Tigress rocked out as Po continued to jam to the beat of the song, playing his Erhu passionately whilst Tigress danced around in giddy awe.
"Yeah, I'm alright!" Tigress couldn't help but be captivated by Po's Erhu as she danced victoriously alongside him. "Yeah, I'm alright!" She bopped her head with the crowd screaming at her with awe. Po did a little tap dance with his feet whilst smiling proudly. "Yeah, I'm alright!" Tigress' eyes widened whilst watching Po finish up his Erhu solo before he tossed it aside and joined paws with her.
"Yeah, I'm alright… I'm alright," Po and Tigress joined together inside of a passionate hug as her vocals went extremely soft, her face flared up with a steamy blush and she started to shake thanks to nervousness once her fiery orange orbs met Po's passionate emeralds. "Yeah, I'm alright… I'm alright," Tigress and Po closed their eyes for a second passionate kiss in front of the crowd, with Po lifting her up into the air and spinning her around mid-kiss.
After Po and Tigress performed some makeshift moves in mid-air whilst kissing, both of them finally broke for air with blushes that could rival the Gongmen City fireworks show on their faces as they panted within one another's presence. Po brought Tigress into his arms bridal style, swung his free paw into the air and waited for the crowd to go silent.
"YEAH! SHE'S ALRIGHT!" Po leapt into the crowd with Tigress in his arms as they started to carry both of them across with their hoofs, wings and paws until they reached Dragon Warrior Noodles & Tofu. "Tigress… That song was beautiful~" Po placed Tigress on her feet away from the majority of the crowd as she couldn't help but sputter thanks to her lovesick emotions flowing throughout her veins.
"That song was beautiful? You should try looking at yourself, Dragon Warrior! You've shown me the power of companionship, the worth of a friendship and my own emotions… You showed me that there's nothing to be scared of in a relationship when I confessed my love to you and now we're married next to one another whilst running the Jade Palace!" Tigress became teary-eyed, leaned up against Po's shoulder and started crying. "I love you so much… I know it sounds quite cliche but I quite literally think I would be lost without you. To live the rest of my life out with kung-fu and the man of my dreams both at the same time? If I could avoid sleeping entirely, I would because reality is far more enjoyable than sleeping at this point!" Tigress' eyes streamed with tears as Po started to shed a few of his own, his jade orbs swiftly being extinguished thanks to the setting sun above.
"I love you too, Tigress. You may have been lost if I hadn't come into the picture- which- by the way… Awesome! The fact I mean that much to you- I guess it took a proposal and some very flustered feelings for you to admit that!" Po chuckled before curbing his mildly excited ego. "I'm just kidding, don't turn my paws to dust! - I would be lost without you. If I had no one to look up to, no one to place my faith and trust within… No one to idolise after your first battle and no one to prompt those dreams of mine. I said it up on the podium and I'll say it again. I love my father and his noodle shop but if it weren't for my faith within kung-fu, there's a very real chance none of us would've met and that's the true bummer!" Po's humour enlightened Tigress before both of their stomachs roared.
"Alright- alright! I think I've got the message that we love each other judging by the fact our paws are now connected with a jade green yin-yang ring and a sunset orange yin-yang ring that connect together when we hold hands!" Tigress was beginning to grow a little resistant to the fluffy nature of Po's excitement. "Let's go grab something to eat, my Dragon Warrior… I could use it after humiliating myself in front of all of those people!"
"What? Humiliating yourself? What you just did out there was beautiful-"
"Po!~" Tigress whined. "Can you ever let me be pessimistic for once? I hate singing and I hate being in front of a crowd of people! You somehow managed to make this event memorable by marrying me and also putting me under pressure!"
"You won't be able to face your fears if you're actually comfortable facing them… That's why they're called a fear! You feared marriage at one point!" Po exaggerated whilst he held Tigress' paw in the noodle shop.
"That was before I met you and developed feelings for you, Po!" Tigress developed a devious smirk on her face as she did her best to tower over him with her slight height deficit. "Besides, you're the very man responsible for me stepping foot out of the Jade Palace for a non-business related manner… That's when the chaos truly began!" Tigress and Po started to stroll out of the noodle shop.
"Oh, right! Food!" They both humorously turned around and make their order inside of Mr Ping's humble restaurant.
"Well, well, well! If it isn't the panda who denied the fact he would marry Tigress because she didn't like him back! Now look where you are, son!" Mr Ping quipped as he reached behind for one of his boiling noodle pots. "What are you doing here, standing around like children? You're married, go and have fun!"
"We would if we weren't hungry, dad!" Po commented whilst Mr Ping merely raised an eyebrow at them both. "Can you get us some noodle soup, for old time sake?" Po politely asked.
"Sure thing, son! I'm just super happy for you! My son, marrying the idol of his life!" Mr Ping gushed whilst the warming thought brought a tear to his eye. "I'm getting teary thinking about it! I guess I can prepare you a noodle soup… You've got the rest of your lives to spend with one another so I'm sure you can be patient with your father once more!" Mr Ping quipped whilst waddling around his quaint kitchen.
"You can say that again," Both Tigress and Po remarked at the same time, gently pulling up seats for themselves as they sat down to wait for their noodles. The Dragon Warrior had found his second wave of Inner Peace whilst Tigress had found the source of her own… Po and Tigress, Dragon Warrior and fierce Tiger, Yin and Yang; both of them were brought together due to parallels that united their trust and faith within one another and now they were finally able to enjoy their lives together… One cheesy song at a time!
[The End!]
[Authors Notes]
Hello there! You've reached the end and I hope you enjoyed this cheesy little one-shot I wrote!
I won't lie, I was a little lost when it came to this one-shot and I had been delaying it for quite literal months! However, I decided to try something a little a-typical with song-fics and actually incorporate it into the dialogue itself whilst the character was doing different motions.
I would love to have some reviews for this with some critical feedback, there are a bunch of songs inside of different languages (Mainly Mongolian and Finnish) that I'd love to translate into English and express through song-fics. I need to learn the names of some dance moves instead of being vague, though, haha!
Thank you all for reading this one-shot and I hope you found some enjoyment out of it! This is my twentieth Kung Fu Panda related work (if you count The Mountain of Misery, which was archived) and I've decided to celebrate that in a wholesome way! - Take care, everyone, and I look forward to our next meeting!
