I grew up in the family manor house. We have always lived in the same place, as long as I can remember. Father and Mother are rather well-to-do, so our home is much larger than the average family house.
When my classmates came over to study for our finals, they called our home a "mega mansion", "castle", "Palace" and "way too big". It is true that we have seven stories, one hundred and eight rooms, and a wait staff; that our gardens stretch for quite some distance and are filled with legendary plants, hedges, trees emulating forests, and flower gardens designed for meditation; that our kitchen is the size of a professional kitchen at a restaurant, that we have separate rooms for study, billiards, parlor, sitting room, television room, dining rooms one and two, twelve bathrooms including family, servants, guest and spare, closets apart from our bedrooms, galleries, a vast library, garages, swimming pool, cocktail lounge, theater, lecture hall, ballroom, and a few rooms I've never even explored, at our disposal.
To my classmates, it seems, all these things are shocking luxuries, but to me, they have always been simply "home". Training camp was the first time I have ever lived any other way. My classmates reassured me this was not quite how they lived, but those who h ave visited my house have also reassured me that my belongings are by no means usual. Uraraka in particular always looks at me with sheer amazement, and presses me for details.
"You've got a bathroom all to yourself?" she gasped. "And a kitchen that's seperate from the place you eat?"
As I say, I have lived here as long as I can remember. Our house is far removed from the city, or even a town; it takes us twenty minutes, even in the fastest car (we own eight) to reach any urban space. The train stop is an easy walk to get to school, but I rarely took it growing up. Aside from going to and from school, my days have been spent in our home. I have studied, mastered my quirk, read, learned, and lived within the walls of our house, and I have rarely even gone beyond the gates.
My parents were now considering, as to the school's request, sending me to live full time in a "dormitory" by UA.
Father had flown in to speak to Mother about the letter, and as usual, they spent a good deal of time deliberating. My mother and father have a gift for deliberation; it is a matter of pride in the family to take time over any given decision, though it is a trait I shall have to abandon as a UA student.
"Well, there are a certain number of advantages to sending Momo to go and live at UA," said Mother thoughtfully.
"True," said Father, stroking his chin. "I can think of sixty four specific advantages, twenty three possible in-betweens, and sixty two possible disadvantages. Mathematically, the advantages seem to have it, but if any of the in betweens became 'disadvantages', it might tip the scale."
"It is a matter worth a great deal of consideration. A great deal," said Mother, beginning to pace now.
"On the one hand, there was a student kidnapped from the camp," said Father, and I tried not to look conscious. I imagine I will never tell them about skirting the laws to save Bakugou; there is no reason why I should, of course, but lying to my parents is a new experience for me.
"But on the other hand," said Mother. "The w ay the gentleman with the long dark hair spoke at the press conference was eminitely rational!" She was speaking of Mr. Aizawa, and I supplied her with his name, and that he was my homeroom teacher.
"Of course! Your homeroom teacher. I had not recognized him from your description. He spoke very calmly and rationally of UA's position and the boy's heroic nature. And he wore a fine suit as well; I believed in him quite sincerely." A nice suit and good grooming are always worth a great deal with Mother.
"Indeed, such a gentleman looking after our Momo could be trusted," said Father. "And although he may not have a quirk anymore, I also have a great deal of faith in our good Symbol of Peace, Mr. All Might." And yes, my father has always referred to our sensei by just that elaborate and respectful name. He reserves elaborate and respectful names for but a few.
"On the other hand, the villains are still out there, quite a few of them, including that rather frightening fellow with the hands over his face," said Mother, referring to the leader whose name, I had heard from Midoriya, was Shigaraki.
"And All Might's quirk has it seemed completely vanished," added father. "Which is very unusual. On top of that, the quirk of the Pro Heroine Miss Ragdoll has also been taken. It seems possible the Villain All Might fought can remove quirks. Such a power would be excessively dangerous for students to be targeted by."
I interrupted here, "But Father, that villain is in prison now."
"True, true," said Father. "And the security patterns at the Tartarus Prison cell are the top in the world. But on the other hand," he nodded gravely at my head, "you were injured by a 'Noomu' creature, and those seem to be still available for this 'Shigaraki' fellow to use..."
"True, but from another perspective.."
I felt that my own input would not be of much interest here, so I politely excused myself, went upstairs, and called Jirou.
"Did you get the news in the mail?" she asked.
"Yes, indeed. Uchimura brought it to us this morning. Mother's been talking it over with father.
"Do you think they'll let you go?"
I thought about it. "I'd imagine they willl..."
"Are you gonna come?" Shed picked up the note of hesitation in my voice.
"Of course, if they agree. I suppose we'll be living together, then...in a 'dorm room'."
"Yeah, you know. A bunch of little bedrooms that share the same living room."
"I see..." I said, feeling a bit relieved. I'd been picturing us all sleeping on futons i na crowded shack. "Not like our lodge, then?"
"Nah, nah. We'll have our own spaces. Some of them share bathrooms, but -"
"Share bathrooms?!" I gasped. How unsanitary!
"Probably not here," she sad quickly.
"Ah. Well, it will perhaps be good for our learning...we'll come to be better as pro-heroes."
"Yeah, it'll be convenient. Maybe even fun, all of us living together."
"Indeed...I rather like the idea of living with you, actually."
"M-m-me too," she stammered back.
"Do you think your parents will permit it?"
"Yeah. They're pretty into the idea, especially cause of All Might. Cause of that battle and everything." She stopped for a moment, and then said, "What was that like? UP close?"
I thought about it for a time. The clashing forces, rattling the wall nearby us. Then I told her.
"Godlike."
"Huh? Really?"
"We only saw them fight for a few minutes, All Might and that villain, but it was a bit like being next to a hurricane. Nothing I have ever seen before has really compared. It was hard to believe anyone could have that kind of power...even some of our classmates, like Todoroki..."
I stopped. Or...
"Jirou, have you ever noticed that Midoriya's power is very much like All Might Sensei's?"
"Huh? Well, yeah, of course. Why?"
"All Might's power up close reminded me of his, you see. The few times I've seen him use it...he used it against my team in the Cavalry battle, to break Todoroki's defense. It has the same force."
"So what're you saying, that All Might and Midoriya are related or something?"
"No, I don't think they're related. I can't imagine All Might abandoning a child of his own, or that Midoriya, who is a huge fan of his, would not have told everyone already."
"Then it's just a coincidence. There are lots of similar quirks."
"I have a theory," I said, a little breathlessly.
"About Midoriya and All Might? What?"
"Did you hear that Miss Ragdoll completely lost the ability to use her power? They spoke about it as though the villain who fought All Might had taken it away. As if he had the ability to remove quirks. All Might's quirk seems to have vanished as well."
"How do you know that?"
"It was on the news. It's not just that he was too injured. HE absolutely cannot use his quirk anymore. They also said about hte Noomu - and I remember the one who attacked me - that they possessed multiple quirks, that they were a combination of more than one. In fact, they seem to believe the villain who fought All Might can grant powers also."
"Honestly, I don't see where you're going with this. What does that have to do with All Might and Midoriya? You saying he stole All Might's power? Doesn't make sense...if he had All Might wouldn't have been able to beat him. Or that he gave Midoriya his power? I mean, Midoriya's a preatty great guy, now way he'd take power from a supervillain."
"I merely bring it up to illustrate that somehow it seems, it's possible to - to give quirks to other people. I've been wondering if perhaps - you remember what All Might said after Kamino? That it was 'your turn'?"
"Of course."
"What if he somehow gave his quirk to Midoriya?"
"That seems like a bit of a leap."
"I know it is. It might eb mad. But it would explain a lot of things about Midoriya's quirk that don't make sense. Particularly the way it seems to break his body, as if it has yet to become compatible with his body."
"Maybe," she said.
"Well, it's a theory. Anyway - good luck with our teachers for the home visits."
"You too."
