Though she remembered the windows being curtained, beams of light peeking through the spaces woke her up. The day had started and unlike the last few weeks it didn't feel like she was going to hate it.

She blushed realising that they were spooning, though they had not started that way last night. His arm was locked over her hip, keeping her against his chest and she could feel him breathing behind the shell of her ear. Her free hand reached up to stroke his arm that was locked around her. In return he pressed into her more. She gasped upon feeling his hard and stiff member push against her flush.

A low gasp left her mouth and she squirmed a bit to get out of reach, but her efforts were fruitless and instead it ended in waking him up.

"Uh Hi." She said awkwardly.

He seemed to see nothing wrong with their current positions. "Hi to you too."

A shiver went down her spine when she heard his 'sleepy' sexy voice, and suddenly she didn't want to be out of his arms.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked stroking away the hair that were falling on her shoulder.

"That I slept in late. I haven't been able to sleep for weeks now." She confessed.

She pursed her lips when he stroked her arm as if trying to soothe her, "I guess getting out of town did the trick. I haven't slept like that too."

She looked over her shoulder with a raised brow.

"Its true. For a moment there I thought nothing would ever work out." He sighed, "And leaving town seemed like the only way to keep myself sane but- I knew if I left you behind I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about you."

"You think about me?" she asked with a cheeky smile.

He rolled his eyes and smirked, mouthing the word, 'No'.

Elena turned and smacked his arm, "What do you think about me?"

He looked down at her and wrapped his arms around her, "I think you talk a lot just like you snore- a lot."

She snapped, "I don't snore!"

"It was like a tractor revving up." He mocked.

She tried to push away from him, "Okay you know what? If you're so bothered by me why don't you go back to your side of the bed!"

He laughed seeing her struggle against him, "But I like my white noise machine."

Her lips puckered in anger, giving him a pointed look, "Well the machine dislikes you."

"I call bullshit." He pulled her against him, his face was mere inches from her and the way he gazing down at her lips, she knew where this was heading and she didn't want to stop it. But was this right before they sort out their issues?

Her normally functioning brain stopped working once his fingertips traced up her back. Her chin tilted up so he could kiss her.

But neither of them did anything. She could tell be wanted some sort of permission.

"We can't do that in pause." She murmured.

"Isn't 'pause land' some magical universe where we don't have to worry about anything?" He reasoned.

Elena swallowed thick and dragged herself more into his space, so his chest was pressed against hers, just when her lips were going to touch his, the phone on the nightstand rang loudly.

He cursed when she sat up and reached to pick up her phone. "Hey mom." Elena said turning around and letting her legs hang over the edge of the bed.

Damon could actually hear Miranda Gilbert scream over the phone to her daughter.

"Your dad has lost his mind but I want you back in town right now. What the hell were you thinking? The Salvatore has completely turned you into a hussy." Miranda scolded.

"I am just here for a few weeks." Elena said as she got up, going towards the dining area for some privacy, "I am safe with Damon."

"Safe with him? How can you be safe with a delinquent?"

Elena shook her head, "He's not a delinquent, mom. Relax."

"I've heard all sorts of stories about him. What is wrong with you? You used to be better than this and now you're being a complete slut for a boy who's slept with 4 women from the council wives."

Elena felt burned by whatever her mother said. Even after undertaking so many responsibilities, her mother never appreciated her efforts but the one time she found happiness, she was being called a slut for it.

"Why would you even say that?"

"Because its the truth. You think girls like you are important to him? You can't jeopardise your whole future to be his flavour of the week. You've been manipulated by him but I am here-"

Elena scoffed, "You're here? When have you ever been 'there' mom? God- if that were true you would have known me and my heart! Instead you rather listen to women at the club or judge me based on a video that my ex-boyfriend recorded to ruin me!" by the end of it she was the one who had started shouting.

Elena had enough of it. She couldn't take the cruelly worded concerns.

"I am not coming back. I was suffocating in that town and in that house." She sniffled, angrily wiping at her damned tears with her palm. She didn't want to cry anymore.

"So you'd rather stay with that boy?" the sharpness in her voice hadn't left yet as she inquired Elena. Her daughter rarely if ever said no to her.

"Yes. I'd rather stay here." She turned around to see Damon was standing there near the glass door. Elena continued, "And you know what Mom, Damon's not my boyfriend. He's not my friend. So now you can actually freak out about your daughter being an unleashed whore." She hung up and threw her phone on the sofa groaning in anger.

"Urgh!"

She was pacing the room, not addressing Damon but after a few minutes of watching her, Damon stepped in.

"Are you okay?"

She pursed her lips, "No. Apparently even my own mother isn't on my side."

His hands moved up from her arms to cup her face, "Hey. That doesn't change the truth. Stop letting it affect you like this."

He swallowed thick before continuing, "You're a beautiful girl, you're brave and you're extremely smart. You've always been my most toughest competition. That's the truth. Nothing more or less, and sooner or later she'll see that too."

"No one will. Its all gone now. If the woman who brought me up can't believe in me- I can't expect-" she rambled. Damon interrupted "Yeah well I do. You've gotten me to believe and that is something. Now don't tell me I am easier than the kids at school or middle age car-poolers from Mystic Falls."

She took a deep breath, actually wanting to believe him.

"Trust me, it's just a few months or an year tops. They're going to forget about it. " He promised.

She nodded.

"Great. You have nothing to worry about." He visibly relaxed seeing her calm down. "Okay maybe just be a little concerned about the snoring."

Elena hissed, "I don't snore! Maybe you hear things with those weird big dog-like ears."

"Huh well you're not the first girl to notice something big in me- mostly its not my ears." He wiggled his eye brows. She rolled her eyes and pushed away from him, "Dick." Knowing that he was being lewd just to cheer her up.

"Exactly."

Elena bit the inside of her cheek so she wouldn't laugh. "You're disgusting." She said as she turned around to go to the bathroom so she could freshen up.

"It turns you on." He teased.

"No it doesn't." She announced in a very offended manner.

"Yes. It. Does." With his last word he picked her up from behind her, catching her off guard because of which she shrieked. And the next thing she knew he slammed her down on the mattress, rolling her under him and keeping her wrists pinned to the bed.

"Let go." She giggled.

"Make me." He said looking at her with comically large eyes as if challenging her. She tried to push up against him but gave up after a few moments of struggle. With a gasp-laugh, her almond eyes looked up at him. "This isn't fair."

"Yeah it comes in the package deal, I am disgusting and not fair." He lowered his face, "But I bet you like it."

"I don't."

He leaned in the crook of her neck, placing a soft kiss at her pulse point and then one on her collarbone. She eased up slowly, moving her head back to give him access. "Should I stop?" He asked, not half serious as he peppered kisses on her skin as she panted for air.

"Oh my god." She moaned when he pushed his hips against hers.

"I feel like you don't hate it." He said above a whisper as if it were a secret now parting to look at her face. Her lips parted, eyes hazy, inviting him to kiss her but at the same time there was reservation.

"No. We shouldn't." She said if it was the hardest thing in the world, "I want to do this but-"

"Pause land sucks."

Elena chuckled, "I don't want to screw this up now. We have all this time now and we can get to know each other. Don't you want to do it right?"

He feigned annoyance, "I just want to do it." But he got off her, complying to her wishes, "There's really not much to know about me so we should be good in an hour."

Elena laughed as she sat up, "So your life can be summarized in an hour?"

"I am giving myself 10 minutes, the rest of the fifty minutes are for you to blab about your book clubs or whatever."

She smacked his arm, "I am gonna get dressed and then we can talk about this over breakfast."

"Dressed?" he frowned, "It's going to take more than hour, isn't it?"

...

...

"Ice cream for breakfast?" he tutted in a judgemental tone. Elena shrugged, "It's summer vacation. Plus I have oatmeal." She said reaching for her bowl.

They were seated in the dining hall of the hotel. Elena was all dressed up in a printed red dress and her hair were curled at end. However, Damon had kept it casual with jeans and a grey V-neck, eating a toast and drinking coffee.

"Yeah well it looks very unappetising." He scrunched his nose when he saw her mix her ice cream with oatmeal.

"Its very delicious. Even if it looks like that." She defended it, "Here, have a taste."

"Erkh No way." He pulled away but Elena got up her chair and forced the spoon in his mouth.

He had squeezed his eyes shut but swallowed the concoction.

"Mm it is actually good." He said once she sat back in her seat.

"I know." She grinned.

"Give me more." he said reaching for the bowl but she pulled it away, "Uh get your own."

"Oh come on, you can have my toast." He offered to which she mocked him by sticking her tongue out.

He hissed grabbing a spoon and attacking her bowl. Elena squealed trying to save her breakfast desert. "Its mine!"

"Don't be such a baby, here- have some." He said and threw a spoonful on her cheek.

She could feel all eyes on them but couldn't seem to care as she begin salvaging her desert by pushing him and speed eating like him.

Later when they had their breakfast, she insisted that they take a walk in the gardens outside.

"I don't think we can have dinner downstairs, we got a lot of disapproval from the guests here." She giggled.

"We won't have to, we're moving to the next convention. I am trying to network as much as possible and I've mapped out all the hot spots."

She nodded, "So does Elijah know? About the-"

"Ah, uh- we're paused." He smirked. Elena rolled her eyes puffing out some air at his tactful manner of using their pause. Of course, he didn't want her to know about anyone's harsh judgements.

"Right. Okay then, tell me about yourself." She asked trying to play it cool but actually very eager to know.

"Well I am god's gift to this doomed planet, I have an unbelievably sexy body that I put to extremely well use-"

She punched his arm, "Damon! I am serious."

"Why don't you ask me and I'll answer." He raised a brow, "Or otherwise I might just humbly go on and on about how great I am."

"Fine. Um- okay. Tell me about- football." She said standing in front of him, "You hated football and suddenly you became star of the group."

"One of many achievements." He mused.

"So why do you hate football?"

"I don't hate football." He said in an exaggerated tone, Although he was very impressed about her knowing and observing something so small.

"I am neutral about it. Giuseppe loves football and he wanted Stefan and I to be the best at it. So we had coaches."

"Oh."

"Yeah. Rigorous practice routine. And we both hated it then, but then my grandma tricked me into liking it." He scoffed, "She'd come to practice. And sometimes we'd go with her for the weekend. So you can say I have a love-hate relationship with football."

She nodded, feeling a bit warm at the thought of him having a woman to look up to in his life other than the pile of 'one-nightstands' and hook-ups.

"Is that your mother's mom?"

"Yup. And she's crazy but she's amazing at the same time." He added. She smiled at how his face lit up like a kid talking about her.

"Uh. Okay, moving on. Do you have a best friend in Mystic Falls?"

He squinted his eyes as if thinking, "I guess- no. Does Stefan count?"

"He is in town."

"Then no."

Elena laughed at his poker face and shook her head, "So Stefan is your best friend?"

"Yeah not after I shoved his teeth down his throat." He huffed, "I made a mistake but after that night, he didn't say anything. So I assumed Stefan was the one who posted the video."

Elena pursed her lips, feeling guilty to be a part of the cause, "I can understand that. The way I reacted with Mom today, Stefan must have felt a similar way. Since he trusts you so much, for you to not trust him on this meant he wouldn't be believed by anyone."

His jaw ticked at the feeling of letting down one person he had vowed not to, "How could I have reacted differently? If he trusted me, I trusted him just as much if not more. To see that he had broken that trust with no holds barred felt like worst betrayal."

"I know that. And he'll know that too. Don't give up on him." She held his hand and squeezed it.

They walked up to a bench where she sat down, gesturing him to sit. He too sat down next to her, leaving not much distance between them, they started talking about their likes and dislikes. He told her about the places he'd been to, his life before mystic falls and she told him about her life in town.

"I love being at our lake house in the holidays. Especially in winters." her face mirrored that feeling of nostalgia as she spoke about it, "Maybe I'll take you there."

"Me?" Damon snorted.

"Yeah- you know. We can go for fishing."

"Urgh you're leading a miserable life if fishing is on your mind."

Just then his phone buzzed. He raised a finger as if asking her for a minute and got up to take his call.

Elena sat there on the bench and waited for him only to be joined by another guy. "Good afternoon."

"Uh Hi." Elena looked the other way so he would leave but the light brown haired man didn't quit. "Kol Williams. And you are?"

"Elena Gilbert." She tried to sound polite.

"Elena. Now that's a one of a kind name. So what brings you here?"

She hesitated but then realised that maybe mentioning Damon would do good, "I am here with a friend, who has an investor meeting."

"That's sweet. So you're both running a business?"

"No-no I am just supporting here. But they do have a very successful game plan." She added. She explained a small amount of what Damon had told her, implying over and over how the person she was here with was a 'Special friend' but the man was stubborn or maybe delusional.

"Hmm Its a promising idea. How about-" he reached into his pocket and took out a card, "You and your friend visit my office and impress me with a good presentation."

"You're looking to invest?" Elena asked bewildered.

"I guess. I was here for a seminar but I am very interested."

"Oh my god! Really?... I mean, that's good. Yeah sure we'll check it out."

Elena could see Damon in the distance, he seemed a bit tense and Elena could tell his glare was focused on the guy next to her, who now shook hands with her and left.

Elena knew once she gives him the news, he'll forget all about the part of her talking to a stranger.

"Who was that?" he asked, not sounding angry rather annoyed.

"That was Kol Williams. Guess what? I found you a possible investor." Elena squealed in excitement handing him the card.

Damon viewed it looking unimpressed.

"Huh?" She asked.

"Nope. This guy has other motives."

"What motives?" She asked with narrowed eyes. Damon pushed his tongue against his cheek, "My guess is he needs an excuse to creep on you some more."

She gasped with a roll of eyes as if he was ridiculous to be thinking that, "Damon, stop it! He was so not flirting with me."

"I don't care, we're not gonna see this joker." He was about to tear up the card but she took it from him with a hiss, "Hey. No! I networked and you're not throwing that to waste."

"You networked? You are sitting on a bench in a pretty dress. If that's networking then people with their dogs on a leash are marketing on a whole other level."

"Damon. We are going to his office." She announced. "I feel really bad about the whole school event screw up. Come on, as your new friend- please trust me." She gave him her best Bambi impression with her big doe eyes and he huffed unable to snap sense into her when she looked at him like that.

After a minute of silence, he gave in. "Fine. But the second this guy flirts with you, we're out of there."

"He won't because he isn't even thinking about it. You need to believe in things, okay? Not everyone has an evil motive."

...

...

They were off to New York but Elena was happy that this time the car ride wasn't uncomfortable. So far the 'taking it slow' in the friendship way was working for them. There was an unannounced agreement that the moment they reach that certain place in their 'friendship' where they are completely sure about each other, they were going to take the next step.

"I have an idea." Elena said after she turned the radio off for a moment.

Damon's shoulders sagged as if he could anticipate that he wouldn't like it.

"What is it?"

"We should play that game, where like- we pretend we are strangers." She said with a brow quirked up.

He grinned, liking her idea for a change, "Oh you mean role play? Elena, I must say I am surprised. So what are we? Ooh, ooh- I know, you are an Eastern European model on her first assignment, I am the rich businessman-"

Elena groaned, "No! No not that! God, what is wrong with you? I mean if we could start over without all the drama and pretend like we're people who just met. I didn't throw a drink in your face and you didn't ask me to sleep with you in the first 15 seconds of knowing you, how would it be?"

"Hmm I don't know." However, he did know that he would ask her out. Not so much like a douchebag this time.

"So let's find out."

"How?"

"We're going to New York for the convention. We can pretend to meet there." She said a bit over-excited.

"In the same hotel?" he asked.

"Different rooms." She looked at him like she expected him to say yes. He pursed his lips, looking a bit annoyed but shrugged after a few moments, "Okay. But If I go through with this and it works out, its going to count. No more of this- weird 'will we, won't we' thing."

She blushed at his suggestion, "Yeah, okay. I am cool with that."

...

...

She knew it was a bit over the top to be dressed the way she was for a convention. She was wearing a little black dress with a beige cropped blazer and high heels. Her hair were in waves and she had kept her makeup a bit smoky too to appear the mysterious stranger look she was going for.

They were actually committed to the act as she didn't even know what floor his room was on. Elena was getting impatient as she put on some lipstick to finish her look and headed for the convention that was a few minutes away from the hotel.

She was taken aback seeing the venue. The room appeared blue and purple because of the lighting with many tables and chairs. There was a crowd of people there so Elena didn't even know how she was suppose to 'bump' into him in this massive room.

Was he even here?

Just when she was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed, someone pat her shoulder.

Elena smiled, and taking a deep breath turned around.

Her smile flattened when she saw someone who was not Damon.

"Mr. Williams." Elena greeted.

"Miss. Gilbert. Wow what a coincidence, or are you following me?"

She chuckled shaking her head as he took her hand in his and kissed the back of it, her brows raised at the gesture.

"Yeah well if you'd waited a while, my friend and I would have come to your office."

"I guess this is god's plan. Can I get you a drink?"

"Yes. Thank you." She smiled. Once he walked away, Elena begin looking for her 'stranger' again, the she realized Damon was never on time to anything. She bet he was still in his hotel room, sleeping.

Elena huffed with irritation but when Kol came back she put a smile on her face, talking to him. He led her to his table, pulled out a chair for her like a gentleman.

"I haven't met your friend."

"He's- back in town. Had a bad injury." She didn't even care to mention Damon at this point.

"Oh. So are you continuing this without him?"

"Seems like it." She giggled but she was far from amused. She was actually pissed at Damon for being late.

After an hour of talking to him and wishing to be back in the hotel, hunt him down and probably kill him for being so late.

"You seem distracted." Kol noticed, Elena bit her lip, "No. No I am fine, I was just a getting tired and hungry."

"I know. These things are the worst! Why do they serve food that is the size of a human thumb." He rolled his eyes, "And it's not even good." He scrunched his face.

Elena laughed a bit loudly. "That is exactly how I feel."

"Hmm so we both agree that we should have dinner." He offered catching Elena off guard.

"Dinner?"

"Yes, I know this amazing place that is not all shrimp and caviar."

"Oh." Elena didn't know what to say. Was this the flirting or not? She was now leaning towards Damon's verdict on the matter but she was so mad at him that he being right was unacceptable to her at this point. She decided she was not going to let him hold that over her head. So what if Kol was interested in her? She could still get him to invest if she tried. With that in mind she said, "Okay. Yeah we should."

He sighed of relief and got up. "Great. Let's go now."

"Don't you think it's too early to leave?"

"No. I don't think this place can get any more exciting. Besides my assistant is here." He waited till she got up, looking here and there a bit hesitantly, "Okay. Lead the way."

He chuckled as he walked ahead of her, Elena couldn't help but feel upset about the fact that Kol wasn't the stranger she had wanted to leave with. However, when they were leaving she saw Damon just coming in and apparently he saw he too because he suddenly smiled as if he had been the one searching for her. Kol had went completely unnoticed to him.

She huffed, not paying attention to him and followed Kol out to the valet. She knew Damon would follow her and he did.

Elena was standing outside alone, waiting for Kol to show with the car when she felt his presence behind her, "First time in New York?"

She nodded.

"You know though this side of the city can get you a bit claustrophobic, there are a lot of places here that can make you feel more alive than any other place in the world. Well for one there are numerous crowds of people and there is no better evidence of life than actual life." he sighed, "But if you want quiet, and I know this is corny but at night by the Hudson valley, you'll see the most glorious sky full of stars. Its unlike any other place."

Elena bit the inside of his cheek.

"By the way, Damon Salvatore." He felt stupid to be going through with this but he was committed to the part. Though he did feel weird that she wasn't making as much as a peep.

"Shouldn't you be inside." She said curtly.

"I should be. Why don't we get acquainted inside? Miss-" he trailed off to give her an opportunity to start but they got interrupted by Kol.

"Elena, the car is here."

When Damon saw him coming over, his eyes snapped to Elena. She could tell he was furious seeing Kol again.

"What the fuck is going on?" he asked her but Kol got there before he could actually ask for an explanation. "Is there a problem?"

"No, No problem." Elena forced a smile.

"Really? Elena-"Damon got her attention due to his tone which was verging on anger. "Do you know him?" Kol asked. Elena pursed her lips as she glared at Damon before admitting.

"Yes I know him. Remember I told you about my friend from town, well this is his business partner." Her tone was still snippy.

"Oh. Yeah. I was actually telling Elena how she should bring her friend to the office. I am very interested in the project. How about you meet my assistant inside. I'll text her your name. You are?"

Damon and Elena was still in a staring contest, she knew that if his eyes could shoot out a beam of fire at her, it would have absolutely killed her by now.

"Sure. Damon Salvatore." He finally looked away from her to Kol.

"Salvatore? Hmm now I definitely want to know more. So do give me a call. Elena, shall we?"

She nodded following Kol to his car, though she looked back at him one too many times.

...

...

Elena was tired by the time she got back to hotel. Kol insisted that be drop her to her room. "I had a really great time."

Eventhough she didn't have a good time. The whole time she was waiting for an opportunity to escape. Kol wasn't a bad guy, he was decent and charming in his own way but Elena couldn't really relate to a business man who was in his late twenties. She wasn't even eighteen yet so no matter how hard she tried to make conversation with him, it wasn't the same as her friends.

"Me too. I'd really like to see you again." He held her wrist and turned her to him. Before there could be any implication from him that he wanted a kiss, because of the way he was looking at her, she got ahead and quickly kissed his cheek, "Yeah me too. Uh- I am really tired so I am going to." Her voice trailed off as she gestured towards her room.

"Sure, Elena. Good night." He said as she rushed inside and locked the door behind her. She was out of breath. Her mind and body felt so out of place in a room alone. She desperately wanted to be with him. But there was a fear holding her back.

Every time she took a step towards him, something pulled her back.

Like the time she told him she had feelings for him and the next day he screwed Rebekah.

Then she threw caution to the wind and drove out of state to save him, she could still remember sleeping on his naked chest that night and constantly thinking that she was in too deep and escaped. And then that sex tape came out to ruin her moment.

Even two days ago when she was going to kiss him their hotel room, her mom called and berated her.

Now when they came up with the starting over plan, he showed up late, some force of the universe send Kol and in a strange turn of events, she ended up having dinner with him.

Was she finding reasons or was the universe giving her signs?

And if the latter was the case, should she listen to the universe?

Elena hurried to her bathroom and quickly began looking through her clothes to find something else while taking off her heels at the same time. In about flat 10 minutes she was ready in a white silk dress that could qualify as good lingerie as it had a lace detail enunciating her cleavage. She touched up her make up in the mirror and wore a coat on top of everything to cover her, picking up a pair of her high heels she headed out side and went towards the reception.

"Uh Hi. I am looking for my friend's room. Can you help me please?" she batted her lashes at the manager standing at the reception.

"Ma'am, well we'd advise that you call your friend."

She tried again, "But I want to surprise him." She pouted a bit trying to convince him and sure enough the man sighed, "Okay, what is the guest's name?"

"Damon Salvatore."

"Sure, let me check."

...

...

She had dressed up on a whim or rather dressed down but she was sure that no matter what the signs or the situations were screaming at her, she wasn't going to be alone in her bed thinking about it.

His room was two floors above hers, Elena had been second guessing her self in the elevator but as soon as the tiny bell rang, she felt ready to step out.

While knocking on his hotel room door, she started thinking of the 'right' thing to say.

Would he be mad? Would he take what she was giving him.

The door opened and her mouth was left hung open, seeing a woman answer it. "Yes?"

"I- uh." She checked the room number, she couldn't be unless she was lied to at the reception.

"Is Damon Salvatore in there?"

"Yes." She hated the word yes at that moment.

The strawberry blonde, tall woman seemed confused at her appearance outside the room, "Who are you? Should I let Mr. Salvatore know?"

"No, no. I should go, you both seem to be busy."

"Well if you're representing someone, I should tell him." She spoke so eloquently that Elena immediately felt threatened.

"What?"

"Andie? Who is it?" Damon appeared behind the woman, looking her at his face turned stiff, "Why don't you go in, I'll deal with our uninvited guest."

Elena could hear some people inside and it calmed her down to think that they weren't alone.

"What's going on?" she asked trying to look over his shoulder but he closed the door behind him, "I invited a few good contacts, I thought being here we could drink and I'd be able to present something."

"Oh."

"Yeah." He sounded snippy, "What are you doing here?"

She bit her lip, very confused as if she could go with it or not, "I was mad at you for not being there on time. I waited a lot and I felt so stupid for that. But I didn't leave with Kol to spite you. I left with him because I wanted to get you this investment."

"That's not your job. I've never asked you to help."

"I wanted to because I screwed it up and this is so important to Elijah and you. But mostly it's because it's important to you which means it's important to me." She licked her lips taking a step ahead to hold his hands.

He scoffed, "No, god- if it were as important to you. If you believed in me, you'd not have to play eye candy on a date to get a meeting."

"Damon." She hissed at his harsh words.

"I've been trying to not react to these cruel games you play with me but I can't deal with it anymore. You left me after our first night, I gave you space, you fought with me over Matt, I let it go because you were going through something but after I left all that behind me to start over with you. You leave with him. And now you're here to explain?" he shook his head pulling his hands away from her.

"No. I am not here to explain. Yes, I was mad at you before but-"

"Well I am mad at you now. So leave me alone." He stepped back to his door. She looked down at the floor, embarrassed for some reason. "Okay. I'll go back to my room but if you don't want to see me, does it mean I have to go back?" her voice was small but it didn't indicate that she didn't want to go back.

He knew that she wouldn't be able to take the town gossip about her. She was so scared of her own home. Suddenly, she looked so small and helpless to him.

"No. It doesn't mean that. Give me some time to think." He sounded defeated. She nodded and walked away back to the elevator, looking back every few seconds to him. But he didn't stop her.

...

...

The next two days that she spent in New York were lonely and boring. She finally talked to Bonnie and Caroline who were excited and wanted every detail about her 'relationship' with him but she popped their bubble by telling them about the fight.

Maybe he needed space because she hardly ever saw him those two days, and he didn't even text or call. Though she did get alarmed seeing that woman she had seen at the door, now in the hotel lobby as Elena came back from yet another uneventful tour.

It was seven o'clock in the evening and the tall blonde was dressed in an almost gaudy silver dress, that was cut down the middle to show her flawless skin as well the high skirt only enunciated her legs.

Elena felt compelled to stop her, "Oh hi. Wow you look-" Elena wanted to sound friendly and not at all intimidated, "nice. You look nice. Andie, right?"

As if she didn't know her name.

"Yeah. Oh yes you were at Damons room."

"Ahuh. What is going on? Looks like you're headed to a party. Is Damon- ehm- taking you?" she didn't want to sound like she was prying but Elena had to know. Clearly Andie was trying to impress him.

"Yes. We're going to the Manhattan Entrepreneurs society gala. I told him about it and since he's never been there before, I might just be his debutante date." She giggled joking but Elena found no humour in it and just gave a laugh.

"Oh okay. Well, good luck. I hope you have fun." She didn't mean it. Elena rushed to her room and as soon as she got in, she threw her bag on the bed and picked up her pillow, squeezing it out of frustration.

"Jerk! Jerk! Jerk!" she panted as she hit the pillow against the mattress.

After she got that out of her system, she fell like deflated balloon near her nightstand. The only sentence repeating in her mind was that she had to go to that party. The very next moment she was calling the only person that she knew who would take her there.

"Kol, uh- Well I know this is last minute but I really want to see you tonight."

I am literally sleep writing so I'll edit the mistakes that are invisible to me now tomorrow. Plus this was difficult to write during my study breaks so please please please give a review if you read .

Are Damon and Elena compatible as a couple? Do they need to end their pause, give up or give in? What other 'couple things' shoulf they do to strengthen their boundaries? Is Elena acting irrationally due to her recent public breakdowns? Why does she have so many trust issues? Let me know in the review!!!!
