Ah, life. That great and mysterious lady that dances in the sky, as the masses are destined by the snap of her fingers. But sometimes, you don't expect that snap. You expect your life to stay at the same pace and same speed. Then the unexpected comes to pass.
Before I get too ahead of myself, let me introduce myself. My name is David. At the time, I was 24. I was a Sales Associate at a large retail corporation.
My phone greeted with an alarm at 7:30 that morning. The date was June 4th, 2021. Taking a moment to stretch under my cozy blanket, I shut the alarm up and got up, setting on the edge of my bed, and letting the cool wooden floor greet my feet. After saying the Lords Prayer, a morning thing I even do now, I checked to make sure that the temperature outside was warm, but not unbearable.
I smiled as the weather app informed me it was 62 degrees outside, and to expect a high of 78 that day. Quickly slipping into a pair of white socks and my walking shoes, and lodging my phone and wallet into my shorts pockets, I would open and shut my bedroom door for the last time as I stepped out of it.
Everything was as I remembered it. A collection of cardboard boxes by our woodstove. My sister asleep in her "room" with the air conditioner on full blast. Taking care to not be too loud, I headed upstairs. My house had a cabin theme to it that I loved. Crossing into the kitchen on the left, I flipped the coffee maker into the on position. Mom would be up before I was done with my walk. Maybe her husband too.
I know a lot of these details may be boring, but they are the last images I will ever get of my family, my past life. I cherish them, and its hard for them to not pop out.
Anyways, I crossed to the front door and opened it, taking a quick opportunity to take a deep breath and a sigh of bliss. Whilst Equestria is beautiful, the Midwestern United States...I cannot describe its beauty. I suppose God carved it with his own hammer.
What is interesting looking back now is that I thought nothing of the normal. I did not take walks every day, but I did a lot. Maybe if I had known what was to happen, I would have hugged my Mom and sister really quick.
As I crossed onto the curved and long dirt road known as Kings Corner, I got into a settled pace. Not too fast, but not Lolli gaggling either.
Halfway down the road was a summer home. I remember clearly stopping to admire it when my right hand hit cool air. Really cool air. I turned just for a second to see a Rainbow colored portal.
And then I was falling.
My eyes were tightly shut, and I screamed like I was a chicken with its head cut off as I descended. I was rapidly dropping. "This is it", I thought to myself. "I am going to die. Fall to the ground and die." I thought of crying, of praying. But then I felt a burst of magic around my person.
My eyes opened as I felt a bubble appear around me. I cautiously opened an eye and gasped.
Before me, directly ahead, was the splendid glamor of Canterlot Castle. The gorgeously designed balconies. The magnificent garden right outside. It was real!
My eyes then turned to directly below me. A male stallion guard was slowly lowering me to the ground. He had a white color to his coat. I could not see his mane as it was covered by a guard helmet, gray in color. He had a focused expression.
I sighed in relief as I touched the ground. I went to open my mouth, but no words came out. How could they? Humans talked of new worlds. Dreamed of them. But I was in one!
The guard dissipated the bubble and looked me over. It was noticeable that he came only up to my waist height wise. He expression turned to one of seriousness.
"What are you? Who are you?", he asked, looking me directly in the eye.
I gulped as a nervous bead of sweat descended my forehead. "David. I'm a human", I got out after several seconds.
"But you do not look like", he began before shaking his head. "My names Hard Head, and until we can get why you are here sorted, I need to place you under arrest."
I understood. I was a stranger in a foreign land. He was probably terrified. I reached my arms out, allowing a pair of handcuffs to be secured to my arms.
Satisfied, he nodded. "Follow me", he urged, turning, and heading for the castle doors. I nodded and followed, beginning my Equestria Archive.
