Ch.8: Don't Fear the Dance
I could only stare down at her in shock. After regaining my composure. I squatted to help her up, wincing at the pain. Being overweight at the time could be a burden.
"Thanks," she smiled.
"No Problem," I responded. I looked over to her suitcases, then back to her. "My names David. I'm from a world called Earth. Long story short-I'm stuck here," I chuckled.
She smiled. "My names Sunset Shimmer," she said as Starlight entered the room, wondering what the commotion was about. She embraced Sunset like a long-lost friend. Meanwhile, I gave a good look to Sunset.
I was in love. This was not a thunderbolt; this instead was angel fire. Her friendly and lovely eyes, her tall demeanor. Shaking it away for the moment, I got to returning the books to their spaces, and offered to bring Sunset's suitcases to a guest room. She smiled but shook her head.
"I'll take them up, but thank you for offering," she smiled. She turned to Starlight. "Where's Princess Twilight?"
"In the sh- "
Starlight was cut off as a purple blur embraced Sunset in a hug. "Sunset!" Twilight exclaimed, hugging her tightly. "I've missed you!"
Sunset chuckled as Twilight let go. She then gave a frown as she walked over to her suitcases, putting two in her left hand, one in her right.
"I just wish I were here with good news. What I have to tell you is not good."
Twilight got right to it, asking what was up.
It is strange to think of now, but what Sunset said then did not worry me at the time. If only I could have realized the tremendous impact that it would have on three worlds in the years to come.
"The Statue by the school? It's beginning to crack."
Ever prepared, Twilight recommended to Sunset to stay until she could return safely. Twilight analyzed that a return trip could further irritate the statue and cause the cracks to get worse.
By 10:30 that night, I was getting ready for bed. Sunset's room was right across from mine. As I brushed my teeth, I heard a gentle knock on my bedroom door.
"Come in," I said after I rinsed with mouthwash.
Sunset walked in, rubbing her left arm with her right. "Hey David. It must be cool having another human around, huh? At least for now"
I nodded, walking over to my bed, admiring my new desk lamp for a moment from afar. "I guess so. Though what did you mean by a statue."
Sunset looked quite nervous but sat on the edge of my bed. "Do you have to work tomorrow? Its gonna be a long explanation."
I shook my head no, sitting next to her. "I have the day off. Go ahead when you're ready."
The clock read 11:43 when Sunset finished her tale, taking a deep breath.
"So, you mean to tell me there's a human world in this dimension?" I asked with a big smile.
Sunset chuckled. "Yeah. Great friends. Do not tell Twilight, but I found a huge stash of gems a few years ago and sold them. I have...a nice chunk of change."
I smiled. "Just don't be greedy, and you are fine with me."
Sunset then reached for my hand then. I had a light gasp escape my mouth, as Sunsets right clasped my left.
"You are not alone, David. Starlight told me how much you miss your family."
I nodded, looking away. "I do. My sister, my brothers. Mom and Dad. Better than you could ever want."
Sunset smiled. "My folks are great. They live in Manehatten. I'm gonna visit them tomorrow. Wanna come with me?"
I sighed. "Can't. Rarity's measuring me for a suit at Noon."
Sunset smiled and pulled me into a hug. I gasped slightly but returned the hug. That hug reaffirmed what I felt- Sunset was my crush.
But a question featured.
Just how was Sunset a human in Equestria?
"Oh, you are simply doing great darling! Just to measure your torso and we are all set"
It was the next day. Rarity had been measuring me for a suit with precision. I had only been standing for about 15 minutes.
"Alright...and done!" she beamed, stepping back. "I should have this done for you in no time."
I gave a small chuckle. "Why a suit anyways?"
Rarity scoffed. "It is always good for a stallion to have one. Plus," she grinned as we entered into her kitchen, "You must have one now to impress Sunset Shimmer"
"I... have no idea what you are talking about," I denied.
"Oh, pish posh," Rarity smirked as we sat down at her kitchen table, two cups of tea already awaiting. "Twilight told me that you and Sunset talked each other's ears off at breakfast this morning"
This was true. Sunset and I had much in common- We both loved Rock music for example.
"You simply must ask her out as soon as possible!"
I slowly frowned. "I can't Rarity"
"Why not?"
"I just...," I sighed. "You know how you mentioned the way Prince Blueblood treated you at the Galloping Gala 7 years ago?"
She nodded, a slight frown forming. "Did you do the same to somepony?"
"Well, not exactly," I said. "When I was seventeen, I reunited with an old friend named Renee. Me and her had been inseparable when we were young, but I had moved away. We fell in love when we reunited. But I grew unhappy. She has some issues, and some family were too into my head at the time.
"I broke up with her online. And I tried to get with with her best friend after."
"I see," Rarity said. "Have you ever apologized?"
I nodded. "I did yes. Me and her got on well until that portal ate me," I chuckled. "But I'm afraid of hurting Sunset, or anyone."
"Pardon my language, but I'm afraid of screwing up."
Rarity said nothing for a few minutes, before taking my hand.
"We as creatures are not meant to be perfect, darling," she said softly. "We will make mistakes and mess up. The important thing is that we learn from our follies."
"I have no doubt that you have learned from that mistake. You are too kindhearted to not have."
"Thank you, Rarity," I said softly. I then got a lightbulb. "I'll tell you what. I'll ask Sunset out at the Galloping Gala in November. But you have to do something in return."
"And what is that?" she asked.
I smirked, standing up, prepared to run away as quick as possible. "You have to have a conversation with Prince Blueblood at the Gala."
Within seconds, I had burst out the front door, laughing as a furious Rarity chased after me. I smiled in bliss.
I had found Sunset. But a conversation 3 weeks later brought some trauma back-the worst experience of my life.
A/N: More twists! I'll see yall next time!
