My Equestrian Archives

Ch.13: Family Matters

Applejack would trot into the library, a focused look on her face. She had checked both my bedroom and bathroom for me, to no avail.

"Surgercube? Where are yah?" she asked. Hearing sniffling, she walked to a set of recliners in the library, frowning as she saw me.

I was in one, looking downwards and downcast. My glasses sat folded on the chairs left armrest, and I had my right arm on my right cheek.

"I miss them, Applejack. My family" I said softly. "I can't hide it anymore. The fact that I'll never see them again... it hurts."

Applejack said nothing, coming over to the recliner. "Tell me about em,' Surgarcube."

I took a deep, shuddery breath. "Well, my mom is a librarian. She made her mistakes, but she has been a great Mom to me, my brother Zach, and my sister Alexis. We all have different Dad's though."

AJ nodded as I reclined back, looking at her. "What about yah Dad?"

"Well," I hesitated. "I guess me and him did get along in the end. But not even close when I was a child. I'd rather just keep it like that. Memories that I shouldn't say."

Getting the implication, AJ grabbed a plastic chair and sat in it.

"But now I feel even worse" I frowned. "You all went to all that trouble to make my day special, and here I am, acting like a little bitch."

AJ looked stunned. She then growled. "No Surgarcube! Yah are acting like any creature should- you have emotions and are lettin' them out."

"It feels like I'm saying I don't appreciate it" I reasoned. I then felt a soft hoof on my face as AJ smiled at me softly.

"Ah may not know yah parents" AJ smiled. "But ah know they are proud of yah. And yah may not see them again, but ah got a feeling yah ain't done talking with dem yet."

I gave a small smile. "I just hope they someday find out I'm okay."

"Ah'm sure they know" AJ smiled. We suddenly turned as Cadence poked her head in. "Everything okay?"

I nodded. "Yeah... emotions I needed to get out is all"

Cadence smiled. "Take all the time you need. We had to restrain Pinkie from eating the cake."

I laughed at hearing that. "Okay, that's funny."

Cadence smiled and turned, leaving.

I then turned to AJ. "Should we go out there?"

Actually" AJ said. "Yah just told me about yah parents. Can ah tell yah about mine?"

Me and AJ had switched chairs. The clock read about five to Five. AJ smiled softly.

"Ah love Apple Bloom" she began. "Its funny. There was a rumor a few years ago that me and Big Mac were her parents."

I snickered. AJ shot me a look, before beginning to chuckle.

"Sadly," she said after a few moments, "She never got ta meet Ma and Pa like me an' Big Mac did. They died when ah was fourteen. Big Mac was eighteen. Apple Bloom was only a few months old."

I frowned hard. "What happened?"

"Well," AJ said. "Ma got cancer shortly after Apple Bloom was born. It..took her quickly. Pa died of a broken heart within weeks."

I teared up, wrapping Applejack in a hug. We held each other, but it was much more than that. We could relate to each other. Great parents that sadly were gone.

"They woulda loved yah, David" AJ smiled. "They woulda loved yah."

We then heard a knock on the library door as Rainbow flew in. No words spoken, she wrapped me and AJ in a hug.

For several minutes, we stood there. No words needed to be spoken.

You know how they say that sometimes family is not blood?

AJ had just helped me realize it.

The Mane 6 were family.

"I hope David's okay," Shining said with concern. He was holding Pinkie in his magic. She looked as if she was doing a Michael Jackson impression.

"Maybe I should go check on them" Sunset offered.

"Oh? Want to see your crush again?" Rarity teased.

Sunset blushed, looking away. "Maybe?"

Twilight went to say something, only for me and AJ to walk in, Rainbow flying behind us. I looked in a far better mood. AJ grinned.

"Alright everypony, let's celebrate!"

Within the hour, we had gathered in the living room. That dirt cake had been amazing, Creamy, and full of chocolate.

Sunset sat next to me on the couch. She giggled, placing a fake crown on my head. "Prince David" she joked.

I rolled my eyes as Cadence and Shining levitated over their gift. I opened it, smiling as I saw a necklace. It was Sapphire beaded, and very pretty.

I cannot say enough about the presents. A book about the History of Equestria from Twilight. A Wonderbolts shirt from Rainbow Dash. A bookshelf from Applejack. A joy buzzer from Pinkie. A black suit from Rarity. A video camera and the fixings from Starlight and Spike. A crystal diamond from Cadence and Shining Armor(They had decided to get me two gifts.). An enormous birthday card from the Crusaders.

But the best was to come.

Sunset was nervous as she handed me a small white box. "I know its not much, but I think you will like it."

I opened the box to see a Rainbow-colored ring.

Sunset smiled. "Put it on."

I did so, putting it on my ring finger on my left hand. I was then stunned by what happened next.

"Do you like it?" I heard in my head. I yelped, breathing in and out as Sunset giggled. "I heard you would like this. You have a tough time talking about tough things. This lets you do it privately."

"I more than love it" I said. "I live it" I said kissing Sunset on the cheek.

"Sunset and David sitting in a tree," Rainbow sang as the others grinned and sung along. Me and Sunset rolled our eyes. The time would come.

Internally though, Pinkie knew that there was something she needed to talk to me about.

What if the parents you had, were a façade all along?

A/N: Yes. Next chapter, it is Pinkie time. See you next time.
