Ch.15: A Gala: Surprise

In a life, there are important moments and important nights. Things that shape the very foundation of what someone will become. And in a lot of ways, that night, November 21st, was mine.

At around five that afternoon, I stood outside Twilight's Castle, the groups all set to go- me and Sunset, Twilight and Starlight, Rarity and Sweetie Belle (Scootaloo and Apple Bloom had been invited to go, but they declined), Applejack and Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Discord, and Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich.

"Come on" Rainbow said impatiently. "They are taking forever!"

"Oh, come now" Discord grinned. "It will only be a few minutes, and then the chaos can beg- ". He was stopped short by a glare from Fluttershy, and he went quiet.

As for me, I already was quiet. Nervous even. My interactions with the Princesses had gone well so far. Heck, me, and Twilight were friends. However, I knew that this was an important night annually for Celestia and Luna. Would they cast me and Sunset aside to keep up appearances?

"You, okay?" I heard in my mind. "You're shaking"

I looked down at my hands. They were throbbing a bit. Noticing this, Sunset walked over and took hers in mine, giving me a calming smile.

"Thanks, Sunset" I smiled. She nodded, as Applejack snickered. "Say Rainbow Dash?" she whispered. "Wanna make a bet on how many kids they'll have?"

Rainbow grinned, but before the bet could be made, we heard the landing of a carriage.

In total, seven carriages would land, being flown by Pegasus Guards. I helped Sunset onto the second one, then stepped on myself.

We were on our way.

As much as I speak in loving terms about Canterlot Castle, it is truly a marvel at Sunset. The faint red glow of the Sun looking upon the castle as its radiance shows. I could not help but smile widely as we flew down towards it.

I gave a gulp, then, as I took note of how many ponies were already at the Castle. There had to be at least three hundred. I took a deep breath. "You got this" I said to myself. "You have been in rooms with 1,200 people before. This is a cakewalk."

With a graceful landing, I took Sunset's hand, leading her onto the ground. Noticing me, Princess Luna trotted over with a smile.

"Good evening, David" she smiled. "I would like to apologize if I came off as cold when we met in June. Discord tends to prank my sister, and I got annoyed."

I waved it off. "I understand, Princess Luna. And Me and Sunset took a walk last night. Your night. God would seethe in jealousy."

Luna smiled widely. Soon, a horn blared, as Raven instructed the Castle doors to open.

It was time for a Gala.

As we went in, my jaw dropped as we turned right, peeking into the ballroom. It was splendid, bully even. I would fail to describe it right, but I can say that I thought I was dreaming.

And the party had already began. An orchestra quartet was at it with some classical music, and groups were congregating in friendship and politics.

Me and Sunset decided to walk over to the punch bowl. It gave us time to get over our anxiety, collective in its nature.

Sunset and I each had a glass of the tasty beverage, chuckling. Rainbow and Applejack were dancing and having fun, even as a few nobles grumbled at their "Improper" dancing.

Me and Sunset made the decision to dance later that night and decided to mingle. A distinguished looking stallion with light blue hair and a beautiful mare with a pink mane came up to us.

"Hello, David, right?" the stallion asked. I smiled and nodded. "What's your name, sir?"

"My name is Fancy Pants" he beamed, "And this is my wife, Fleur Du Lis."

"My my, you are handsome David," Fleur said, winking. "Sunset dear, you certainly picked a handsome...I'm sorry, what would be the right word?" She asked with a light blush.

"Man," I smiled, turning at the right moment... and my jaw dropped once more.

There was no way I had seen it. But they stood there right in front of me.

A Changeling Queen with a small smile on her face. A large centaur, who had his hooves crossed in amusement. And a small unicorn flying in the air, who was giggling at my reaction.

I had just met the Legion.

I went to form words, but none came out. How could this be? Wasn't the Legion trapped in stone?

Sensing just how scared I was, Tirek spoke. "Relax human. We are reformed. We have no plans to invade Equestria or hurt anyone."

I processed this. But a question popped up.

"How long ago?"

Sunset for her part gave a kind smile, turning me to her. "They've been reformed for about a year, David. You have nothing to fear."

"But" I frowned. "Why did I not know?"

Chrysless spoke then. "Celestia didn't want you to fear us. She felt like you had a lot on your plate and did not want to make you anymore stressed out."

"Ah, Hello David" Celestia said just then, trotting up. "I see you have met our... new friends" she smiled softly.

It was then explained. Long ago, Chrysless and Luna had been best friends. Celestia, long story short, did not like Chrysless and kicked her out. For years, Chrysless held resentment, and as a result had led three invasions against Equestria.

For his end, Tirek felt disrespected. He had felt a creature of his power should have some political power and was told that due to his "unusual nature," that he would have no power.

"The greatest shame I feel" Celestia frowned. "Is towards Cozy. It was not right of me, Discord, and Luna to imprison her, nor any of you. We should have done a better job listening."

Chrysless smiled, flying over to Celestia, and kissing her on the cheek. "It's all right, Princess. Do I need a friendship lesson later?"

Celestia blushed at this, deciding to trot away and see what Twilight was up to.

Me and Tirek roared with laughter, and Cozy tilted her head in confusion.

For his part, Discord was unusually quiet. This was unusual. Alarming even. He stood drinking a glass of chocolate milk and looked deep in thought.

"Is something wrong, Discord?" Fluttershy asked, holding his claw.

Discord sighed. "I have something I have to tell the crowd tonight. It has to do with Pinkie Pie."

Straightening up, he led Fluttershy to the dance floor. Snapping his claw, the music quieted as the crowd murmured.

"I understand you all have wondered for years who Pinkie's Mom and Dad are" he said. "Well, players and gamblers, get out your checkbooks, because a surprise has come."

Everyone leaned in anticipation. This was a question that many had wanted to know. Me and Tirek ceased our talking to hear.

"Indeed, it is..."

A/N: I'm sly, huh? Patience ha-ha. Ch.16 will see that, plus the next chapter in me and Sunset growing closer. See you next time!
