Ch.19: Surrounded by Love

Before we get to Heat Week, though, I know some of you reading this may be concerned about Cozy. As the cycle hit in the middle of December, what was going on?

Well, Celestia had approved wholeheartedly concerning the adoption, as had Twilight and company. Even Rainbow Dash teared up when I told the group as me and Cozy returned to the Gala. Currently, Cozy was visiting me often, just so we could be sure we wanted this. March looked like the date it would be official.

Before that though, there would be something new and amusing to deal with- Heat Week. A week where ponies, coupled or not, get filled with love and romance. May God have mercy on the uncoupled pony.

It is interesting to note I did not know about this. As I awoke on December 13th, I found the Castle to be strangely quiet. There was a soccer table in the living room, and no one was playing it.

Raising an eyebrow, I treged downstairs, surprised to see the living room deserted. A tad concerned, I walked into the kitchen, raising an amused eyebrow at the scene.

Starlight and Twilight were sitting at the kitchen table, staring at each other lovingly. As if the world was just them. At the stove, Spike seemed to be cooking scrambled eggs.

I walked over. "Hi David" Spike smiled. "Could you get the bacon started?"

I nodded, placing some butter into a frying pan. Tilting it. "So" I said, "they are awfully quiet."

Spike turned to me. "You don't know about Heat Week?"

I tilted my head. "What's Heat Week?"

Spike chuckled. "I'm 15 and I know what it is. Anyway, everypony gets affected with romance for a week. Its usually harmless, and couples just. You know, while spending A LOT of time together."

I smiled, placing the bacon in, and thinking of Sunset. She was off having an early Hearts Warmings Eve with her parents. A question popped up.

"So, Spike, does this mean a pony could get attracted to me or Sunset? Or both of us?"

He nodded. "But I doubt that will happen. Its pretty rare, and well...isn't it true you are Asexual?"

I nodded. "I don't trust anyone in that setting after what happened to me when I was younger."

He nodded as Starlight and Twilight giggled. This would be an interesting week.

On Wednesday, I found myself in my room, bored. Twilight and Starlight were on a picnic, and Spike was "assisting" Rarity.

I sighed, wiggling my feet as I laid on my bed.

An idea then struck, and I made my way to the Bowling Alley. A few games sounded good and would pass the time.

A few ponies played as Chaos greeted me at the counter. "Hi David. Everypony busy?"

I nodded. "Heat Week stuff"

Chaos began to chuckle, not knowing Cherilee was sneaking behind him.

I snickered as I walked to my lane, Chaos blubbering in embarrassment from Cherilee's bite.

During the second game, I could hear gentle hoovesteps right behind me. I smiled, turning then to see Princess Celestia looking in an exceptionally good mood, giddy even.

"Hello David" she smiled, trotting closer. She batted her eyelashes and got closer. In my unease, I tripped and fell backwards. Celestia giggled and stood over me.

"Maybe I need to see why Sunset likes you so much" she smirked. A few ponies nearby looked at me sympathetically, also single.

She then began to laugh. I was confused as Celestia laughed and laughed, needing to sit to recover.

"My apologies David. Sunset asked me to tease you."

I felt relieved as Chaos came over. "Would you like to join his game Princess?"

Celestia sighed. "If only Day Court was not going on right now. Have a good day David" she said, teleporting away.

Really, this experience tired me, so I called it after 2 games. I headed home, thinking a nap would help.

As I entered Dreamland, I saw myself on a cliff, with Sunset talking with me. There was only one problem. A brick wall separated us.

I frowned, trying to walk around it. But the wall did not have an end point.

"Are you alright?" I heard a soft voice say. I turned to see Princess Luna, who dissipated the wall. Sunset disappeared too.

"What troubles you, David?"

I sighed. "I don't know how to confess to Sunset. And I'm scared she will reject me-or even laugh at me."

Luna lit her horn. In the sky appeared a photo of me and Sunset playing Monopoly and enjoying the company.

Another picture appeared of me helping Sunset up when she arrived 6 months prior. Yet another showed us dancing at the Gala- and our near kiss.

"In life comes fear" Luna smiled. "But the only thing to fear is fear itself. When you let it control you, it can hold you back from accomplishing destinies. If Discord had not had the courage to hand Twilight the medallion, Equestria may not be here today."

"I have confidence you will find the words David. Just fly into destiny. I know you can"

With that, I awoke, a renewed spirit in me.

When Sunset returned, I would have The Conversation.
