My Equestrian Archives-Angelic Harmony
Ch.5: A Man's Speech
The day had come for one of the most important things I would ever do. My speech in front of the United Nations had been publicized up, with news pundits debating what I would discuss. I for my part was frozen in fear as me, Sunset, and Cozy stood outside of the UN Conference Room. I was not only about to speak in front of the world, but some of its heads of state. This certainly was not a speech in front of a college class.
I closed my eyes to focus. "You got this, David" I said. "Just be yourself, and say how you feel"
A strong grip on my should was felt. "Nervous, kid?" a voice said. I would turn to see US President Andrew Palmer myself. Immediately I shook his hand. "Mr. President" I smiled.
"Nice to meet you David" he greeted, before turning to Sunset. "Has he taken you to Broadway yet?"
Sunset chuckled. "We're going to see Hamilton tonight."
I rolled my eyes. "Of course, the media had to know that when we stepped out of the car."
Cozy laughed. "You looked annoyed with them, Dad"
It was true. They had followed us from the hotel- A JW Marriot of all things- to the UN. I had secretly wondered on the ride if Discord would be willing to prank them, but then realized it would be better not to even ask. We were trying to have peace.
President Palmer smiled. "Just take a deep breath. We're all looking forward to it. Good luck" he said before stepping into the room.
After 5 minutes, the UN Secretary General came out. A German Woman in her forties, her name was Angela Marks. Her hair was neatly combed and tied up in a ponytail, and she had a warm smile. "Go on in. The memories are waiting."
I took a deep breath as I walked up to the podium, gulping. NBC, CNN, everyone was broadcasting this. I rubbed my eyes to get used to the cameras and lights and took a deep breath as the room quieted.
I then began.
"The road has been rough. Alone. Heavy. But nothing from hell to sky has turned us back. They are the words of the late, great Vince Lombardi, but they are also the story of humanity. There are times where we have needed to come together, and this is such a time.
I would be remiss if I did address the emotion the world feels today. Fear. Fear of the unknown. Of what Equestria wants. Of the potential for war or Invasion. Even enslavement. I have had the honor of living among pegasi and pony, dragon, and zebra, among others for over a year. I can truly tell you that there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
With me today is my fiancé Sunset Shimmer and our daughter Cozy Glow. Cozy herself is known in Equestria as apart of a trio that tried to take over Equestria. But today, Equestria does not look upon her with anger or hatred, but love. Too often, humanity fails to focus on why the crime was committed. We instead focus on the crime being committed.
Sunset herself has subjected herself to crime before, but that is not important. What is important is what they represent to this cause. A Villain will at times not always remain that persona. The layers can be broken. And it is a lesson we must learn.
In our history, fear and superiority have reigned over importance. The fact is that we have allowed ourselves to think we are better than one another. Princess Celestia has worked had to break those barriers in Equestria, and while I acknowledge and congratulate Earth for the progress it has achieved, we are not finished in that race. Too often, these barriers lead to the evilest thing any creature could ever want-war.
To quote a great character "The streets of Heaven are too filled with Angels tonight." I find that funny, considering my wings. But it shows where we must be better to everyone around us and to each other. Greed and selfishness should not be the way our lights shine towards no longer. It should be selflessness and giving. Our roads stand at a crossroads today. Shall we make it a beautiful day?
Through time and memorial, our collective humanity has come together to fight the odds. Two years ago, we banded together to fight a pandemic. We have fought great evil, built bridges and skyscrapers, and gave a hand to the people that have fallen in the hole. I know that the road seems tough, but 1st Corinthians 13 comes to my mind. "But the greatest is love."
I have one last thing to address. Magic. I know the very thought petrifies some today. But I have seen the good. Old ponies that can walk. Lives that become brightened. Days that shine brighter. I hold one truth to be self-evident- The future looks bright. Is that our collective soul?
Thank you all, and may God bless you"
I will always remember those moments after. Sunset embracing me in a hug. Cozy hugging me tightly. President Palmer shaking my hand with enthusiasm. The smiles on the faces of all in the room.
Truly, we would all be okay.
Watching the speech in Equestria, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna grinned at each other. Me and Sunset were ready. But it would have to wait. A wedding was coming.
However, I first had to meet Sunset's parents.
