Lucifer stretched out once a beam of light hit his eyes. His back was tight after spending the night on the couch. From the corner of his eye, he saw a dark figure sitting to his left. He instantly went for his gun that wasn't there before facing the person head-on.
"I was wondering when you would wake up," Amara said with a slight smirk. As she said this, she flicked the light switch beside her, filling the entire room with light.
"How did you even get in here?" Lucifer asked, settling down once again. "Aren't you supposed to be out of town?"
"Through the front door, and I got back a couple of hours ago. Now, tell me what happened."
"What do you mean?" Lucifer asked, getting out of his sleep fog.
"Don't play stupid with me," Amara said as she slid into the chair that was next to her. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. But I'll bite. I'm talking about the thing that happened yesterday. I'm sure you remember. It's the reason why you're here in the first place."
"How do you know..."
"Don't ask questions. Answer them."
"Cassie was almost kidnapped, but Dean saved him," Lucifer told her. She had a glint in her eye that told him a lot more. "But you already knew that, didn't you."
"I didn't, but I was hoping. Considering you were sleeping instead of tearing down the walls, it was my best bet."
"Also, if you got here this morning, you would have needed to drive through the night, wouldn't you?"
"What did I say about asking questions?"
"How... did... you... know?"
"I know things," Amara evasively said. "Do you want breakfast? I'm starving."
Amara was instantly stood up and immediately made her way out of the room to the kitchen. He ended up following straight after her, seeing that she already had the fridge door open and taking a couple of items out before moving to switch the coffee maker on.
"Do you need something?" Amara asked with a closed-off expression.
He quickly shook his head, not wanting to further, and simply sat down, waiting for the coffee to be made. Amara just kept on cooking, avoiding looking at the confused alpha. He watched her, hoping that she would let her guard down. She didn't.
Soon, the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs filled the room, and Lucifer turned to see Dean walking into the room.
"I thought I smelled food cooking," he said, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Well, it's time to wake up," Amara said. "Lots to do."
"When did you get in?" Dean asked her.
"This morning"
"Scared the crap out of me," Lucifer continued. "She was standing over me when I woke up."
"Well, that's not creepy at all," Dean sarcastically responded before grabbing a cup of coffee.
"It's what I do," Amara shrugged. "And now that you're gone, I can check up on Baby Omega."
"You could have done that earlier."
"Didn't want to risk my eyes," she explained before skipping out of the kitchen.
Dean rolled his eyes before taking over the cooking before the food burned.
"She knows something," Lucifer mentioned.
"Huh?" Dean asked, looking up.
"When I woke up, she asked about what happened yesterday. How did she know?"
Dean thought about it for a moment. "Maybe it was on the news?"
"Nope, they're keeping it quiet. By the way, Captain Mills said she would be by this morning. Wants ask some questions since Cassie would have time to calm down a bit."
"Amara was out of state, right?" Dean asked.
"That's what she said, but now, I'm not so sure."
"And you asked her about it?"
"I asked; she refused to answer. Felt a bit weird, to be honest."
"I don't have time to think about this right now. Let's worry about this later. You mind getting everyone else up."
"Sure thing," Lucifer answered, pushed back from the island.
He swiftly made his way upstairs. He first went to Sam's room and found it empty. He then checked the guest bedroom, where the little ones spent the majority of their time. Empty once again. Lucifer moved to the master bedroom and opened the door, and looked at the makeshift party we walked in on.
Cassie was sitting against the headboard with his head curled into Amara's chest, looking blankly out while Amara was soothingly stroking the back of his head. The kids were scattered along the other side, quietly playing with their toys.
"Excuse me, no alphas allowed," Amara announced from her position. "This is an omega and children-only space."
"Sorry, your highness," Lucifer sarcastically said. "I figured I should tell your that food had been prepared. But if you don't want any, I suppose I could leave you to do whatever you want."
The children scrabbled off the bed at that statement and scurried their way down the stairs.
"How dare you use my weakness against me?" Amara mockingly yelled at Lucifer before turning to the omega curled into her and softly muttered to him. "Come on, puppy, let's go downstairs. I bet that you didn't eat last night."
"I don't want to," a croaky voice responded.
"I'll bring you some then. And you better eat it." Amara squirmed off the bed and made her past Lucifer. "Keep an eye on him for me, why don't you?"
"Hey, Cassie," Lucifer cautiously said from the door, unsure if he would be allowed in the room. "How are you doing?"
"Terrible."
"Well, that's not something a big brother wants to hear."
"I keep seeing it over and over again in my head."
"Really wished I could have kept this part of the job away from you. Never really goes away."
"Do you think...?"
"Do I think what?"
"That they had something to do with this?"
"Cassie, there's no way..."
"It was them. I know it."
"I know that you've been under a lot of stress with our parents," Lucifer tried to appease, "but there's no way our parents could have had anything to do with this."
"You truly have no clue, do you, Novak?" a voice came from behind him.
Lucifer turned around and noticed Amara standing there with a full plate of food in her hands with a stern look on her face, looking back and forth between the brothers.
"No clue about what?" Lucifer asked her.
"Go back downstairs. You'll be having a guest soon. And some children need to go to school. You should get to it."
Amara slipped past the alpha and closed the door in his face. Lucifer could hear soft talking from the other side but could not figure out what was being said. He turned on his heel and went back downstairs. He was on his way to the kitchen when he was sidetracked by the sound of the doorbell ringing. He made a pitstop to check who it was and was greeted with a familiar face with short brown hair.
"Captain Mills, I wasn't expecting you to be this early."
"Detective Novak. I was expecting you to be here. Especially since you're our victim's brother."
"I'm to assume that you're here to ask Cassie some questions."
"I am, but first, I would like you to look at some photographs," Mills said as she pulled out to photos from the folder she was carrying. "I was wondering if you recognize these two men."
Lucifer took a good hard look at the two photos. The first contained a smaller man with short black hair covering their eyes. The second had broad shoulders with greying hair. From the photo, you could see the cast holding his hair into place. "Never seen them before. Am I right to assume they're out perps?"
"You would be correct. So far, we're not getting much out of them. I was hoping your brother could at least place one of them or at the very least give a motive for the possible kidnapping. May I come in?"
"Right, sure," Lucifer said, opening the door so that Captain Mills could come in before closing the door behind her. He led the woman into the kitchen, where Dean was trying to get the pups to eat and pack their bags. Thankfully, they were already dressed for the day. Assumably Amara did so before going into the master bedroom.
"Come on, guys," Dean tried pleading. "You have to go to school."
"But what about Cassie?" Sam demanded. "I want to stay with him."
"Sammy, you can't. There's some stuff he has to do today. He can't do them if you're here."
"I don't want to go."
"You know, if Cas was downstairs, he would want you to go to school. You don't want to disappoint him, do you?"
The fight fell out of Sam. "No...," he muttered under his breath with a pitiful look on his face.
"Detective Winchester," Captain Mills spoke up. "I'm Captain Jody Mills. I was hoping that we could talk."
"Yeah, Lucifer told me you would be by. I just need to get the kids to school. They're just about ready to go."
"I'll do it. I'll be back once they're set," Lucifer interrupted. "Come on, you three. We got places to be, things to do."
"Thanks, man," Dean said as he helped herd the three children out of the house.
"Three kids?" Mills joked. "That must be tough."
"Nah, Sammy's my brother. The other two we are looking after until their aunt comes back into town. Well... I guess we were."
"Were?"
"Yeah, I guess she somehow found out and came back this morning. She's upstairs with Cas, trying to get him to eat. Don't know how much luck she's having."
"Right, to begin, I was wondering if either of these two men looked familiar," Mills said, once again holding out the two photographs she brought with her.
"Nope, never seen them," Dean said after a minute before handing them back. "Do you have any idea what their plan was?"
"None, they're not talking. Seem scared of something, but it's not us. Hoping that maybe Castiel had an idea? Whether he might have seen them around?"
"I don't know, maybe. He really doesn't leave the house except to go to work or to spend time in the back yard."
"Really?" Mills said with an unimpressed tone.
Dean rubbed the back of his head at the disapproval that clearly showed on the omega's face. "We've been having trouble with his parents coming around trying to take him back and whatnot. He's too scared to leave the house most of the time."
"Do you think they might have something to do with this?"
"I don't think so, but... I don't know. Have had a bad feeling about this."
"I would like to talk to Castiel now. Do you mind?"
"Sure thing, he's upstairs in our room," Dean responded. "I'll show you up."
It was a quick journey up the stairs when Dean was greeted by a closed door. He softly knocked on the door before opening up.
"Cas? Amara?"
"Come in," a voice called from the other side.
Dean opened the door to see the two omegas curled together on the bed. Cas getting comfort from the older woman who was combing her fingers through his hair.
"Hey. This is Captain Mills; she would like to talk to you about yesterday."
"It was my parents," Castiel answered.
"Does this sound like something they would have done?" Mills asked, taking out a notebook. "How would you know that they were connected?"
"Because they've done this before," was the answer she received.
