Castiel felt pitiful as he laid in bed. All he wanted was for his alpha to stay in bed with him, but that wasn't possible at this time. He was swamped trying to put Castiel's parents in prison. He didn't want to be an annoyance. It felt like weeks since Dean had really been there, constantly working on the case, hoping to find something.
"Are you sure you don't want me to stay?" Dean asked as we got dressed for work. "I'm sure that I could call out sick."
"No, you should go. I completely believe Charlie when she says that she'll show up."
"I'm sure she'll understand. The only thing I'll be missing is Donna and Jody flirting and pretending they don't have feelings for each other. I could do without that."
Cas chuckled quietly. "You know you find it adorable. Haven't the four of you been trying to 'accidentally' lock them in a room together?"
"If you're sure," Dean continued. "Call Amara if you feel worse. If she's not planning on coming over already. Now her, she's probably packing a care package."
"Yes, her ability of foresight has been both a blessing and a curse."
"Feel better, babe," Dean said, pecking Cas on his forehead before leaving.
"Make sure Lucifer picks up Sam later as well," Cas called to his alpha on the way out. "I don't want him to get sick."
"Got it," Dean called out before shutting the door behind him.
Cas listened as Dean set the front alarm and locked the front door behind him. He heard the gentle purring of the Impala before everything was once again still and silent. Cas dug himself further into his blankets, trying to go back to sleep. Laying there was the only thing the kept his stomach from turning. Slowly, Cas felt his nausea abating as he drifted off to sleep.
Hours later, Cas felt much better, as if he could take the day. Thinking he should probably eat something before nausea came back, he went downstairs and started scavenging for something to eat. Knowing protein would probably help him, he pulled a couple of bacon pieces onto a skillet while picking eggs for scrambled eggs. He only got halfway through preparing his meal when his stomach jolted yet again. Quickly turning off the stove, the omega ran to the bathroom before his stomach emptied itself. He sat there, head against the seat, trying to get the strength the stand back up.
After what felt like moments, he smelled the comforting scent of another omega as she cooed in his ear.
"It's going to be okay. Just take your time," Amara whispered.
"I don't feel good," Cas admitted, turning so that he could see her.
"I know. I have something for you to take."
Amara reached into the plastic bag that she brought with her and handed Cas a small box. He grabbed it without looking at it.
"What do I do with this?" he asked, knowing that reading the directions probably wasn't possible right now.
"You pee on it and wait a couple of minutes," Amara explained.
"What?" Cas asked her, opening his eyes and whipping his head toward her again before realizing that was a terrible idea.
"It's been a month since your heat, and you don't smell like your about to have another one."
"I never stopped taking my heat suppressants, though."
"We'll figure it out. First, I need you to take that test. I'll be waiting in the kitchen."
Amara gently stood back up before closing the bathroom door behind her. Cas stayed on the floor in disbelief while he read the instructions for the test. It really was a simple as peeing on it and waiting. Once some of nausea went away, he stood up and took the test. When he had to wait, he rinsed his mouth in the sink, getting the terrible taste out of his mouth. After waiting a couple of minutes, he looked back at the test and saw two blue lines. He reached back for the box to figure out what that meant.
Pregnant.
Cas looked at the test, not believing it and yet hoping more than anything it was true. There was a soft knock on the door, and Cas opened it up to see Amara with a concerned look on her face.
"How do you feel about this?" she gently asked.
"Is it true?" Cas asked her. "Please, let it be true."
"I already made an appointment with an OBGYN. Our appointment is in 30 minutes. If you get dressed now, we can still get there on time."
"You knew, didn't you?" Cas asked with a suspicious look.
"Yep. According to TV, having a positive test is one of the best parts, so I let you have this. Now, get dressed so we can go. I'll grab you heat suppressants so you can ask to doctor about it. Make sure it's not hurting the pup."
Cas raced up the stairs grabbing the first set of comfortable clothing he could find. When he made his way back downstairs, Amara was already at the front door bouncing on the balls of her feet. Seeing him, she instantly opened the door.
"Wait, I need to clean up the kitchen."
"No time. We have a pup to see."
Amara pushed Cas in front of her while she reset the alarm and locked the door. She pushed him into the passenger seat of her vehicle, making sure he was settled in, before running to the driver's seat and starting the engine. If possible, Cas would say that she was bouncing in her seat the entire drive.
Once at the doctor's office, she quickly shut off the engine before grabbing Castiel once again and running to the entrance, dragging the younger omega along with her. At the front desk, the receptionist gave her a weird look as she stepped out of breath.
"Can I help you?" the receptionist asked, wondering if the woman was going to pass out.
"Yes, we have an appointment under the name Castiel Novak," she told him. "I made it for a couple of minutes from now."
"Right, I see it right here... Ma'am, are you alright."
"Yes, I'm just so excited. Pack's first puppy."
Cas looked around, noticing the gazes he was getting from the rest of the waiting room. "Amara," he whispered, "can you calm down? You're making a scene."
"Right, sorry," Amara said, looking around and giving everyone a meek smile. "I'm just so excited. You and Dean are going to make such cute children. Your genetics working together..."
Once sure he wouldn't have a patient pass out of him, the receptionist gave the two a small smile while handing Castiel a clipboard of medical paperwork. "It's alright, ma'am. Sir, I just need you to fill out this paperwork and give it back to me. Once I get it into the system, you'll be called in soon."
"Thank you," Cas said as he dragged Amara to the back corner of the room.
Cas quickly worked his way through the paperwork while Amara was buzzing with energy in her seat. It would have been pointless to try to calm her down. He stood up, handed the papers over before returning. Now that was done, he felt at peace. In a couple of minutes, he would have confirmation as to whether he was pregnant or not.
"Castiel Novak!" was called from the front of the room.
Cas and Amara stood up at the sound and made their way to the brunette nurse standing there with a thin file in her hand.
"That's him," Amara said, still dragging him along. "Do you want me to come with you or stay out here?"
Reaching the news and scenting an alpha from the woman, he gripped her arm tighter. "Can you come with me?"
"Of course," Amara said.
The nurse looked between the two of them with confusion before shrugging it off. She brought the two of them to a small corner, getting Cas' height and weight before bring the two to a medical room.
"Alright, I'm Nurse Barnes. Since you're new to us, I'll need to gather a bunch of information about your medical history, so it's on file with us. You alright with that, Blue Eyes?"
"I suppose," Cas meekly said.
The rattling off of medical information kept going to about fifteen minutes with Nurse Barnes making quips to both the omegas, clearly joking until her patient felt comfortable with her. She didn't exert her alphaness over the two and continued to build rapport. That's when she had to take Cas' blood pressure and temperature. He was calm as she walked toward him and conducted many of the tests.
"You seem to be in perfect health aside from all nausea that you've been feeling. If you are pregnant, that will go away with some time. I'm saying if because there is such thing as a false positive. I'd also ask about your suppressant use. Most people who come here are already off their medication since they're trying for a baby. The doc might ask for a blood test to make sure that everything's okay. Have you eaten today?"
"I tried. It did not work out," Cas admitted.
"A fasting blood test is better anyways. I'll tell the doc that you're ready."
Barnes stood up and walked out of the room, closing the door softly behind her. Cas laid back on the medical table, taking deep breaths, trying to center himself.
"Are you ready?" Amara asked excitedly.
"As ready as I will ever be."
"I wasn't able to do this with Lily because of that asshole. I'm so excited."
"The doctor will probably ask that you calm down," Cas mentioned as the door opened.
"You have that right," a sweet feminine voice said as a smaller black woman walked in. "I'm Dr. Missouri Mosely, but you can just be Missouri. Now, you're here because you think you're pregnant."
"Yes, ma'am."
"Any reason why you think you're pregnant."
"I honestly didn't think anything of it until this morning. I have felt really nauseous lately. Amara brought over a pregnancy test this morning and had me take it."
"I have it here," Amara mentioned, digging into her purse for a plastic baggy with the used test in it.
"Right...," Missouri mentioned giving the bag a bit of a disgusted look before moving on. "Anyway, since male omegas go through pregnancy a bit differently than their female counterparts, we should already see an expansion of your uterus if you are pregnant."
"Even if it's only been a month."
"Your body is quickly changing to accommodate the baby, so we should see signs of future growth. Mind, we probably won't be able to really see the baby yet, but the signs should still be there."
Missouri backed up toward the door before opening it a sliver before walking back up to Castiel. Behind her, Nurse Barnes walked in with an odd-looking machine before situating it around the confused omega.
"This is an ultrasound machine," Missouri explained. "It will allow us to see inside your uterine cavity. Since the non-pregnant male omega uterus has a distinctly different shape than that of a pregnant one, we will see that with this instrument.
"Now, I going to ask that you pull your shirt up and scoot your pants a bit lower than your hips so we can get a good angle."
Cas awkwardly pulled his pants down while still sitting on the examination table. Both Missouri and the nurse were working with the machine, giving him the appearance of some privacy. Turning to Amara, he saw her give him two thumbs up. Finished with his pants, he leaned back down and pulled his shirt to his upper chest.
"This'll be cold," Nurse Barnes mentioned, right before touching his stomach.
Cas jumped away from her hand, trying to relieve himself of the cold that he suddenly experienced. "What was that?"
"Jelly. It helps us see inside you."
"Usually, the patients get more forwarning than that, Pam," Missouri scolded.
"Eh," the alpha shrugged. "Get it over with before they overthink about it. Anyway, let's see what we have here.
Pam ran a wand along Cas' stomach while she and Missouri looked at a screen. They murmured to each other while pointing at something on the screen that only they could see. Castiel started to freak out at the examination when a warm hand gripped his. The comforting scent of another omega filled and overwhelmed the other scents in the room.
"It's alright," Amara cooed in his ear. "There's nothing to worry about. It's probably doctor talk that we wouldn't understand anyway. They'll tell us anything we need to know."
Cas nodded at the older omega and took deep breaths, trying to calm down. It was a couple of minutes before the two medical professionals went back to the two omegas.
"Alright," Missouri started, angling the scene so that everyone in the room could see, "usually, the male uterus is much more spherical to hide the secondary sex organs. Then, it becomes more characteristic of the female uterus when pregnancy is achieved. That is what we see here. I would say this is very advanced for a month into pregnancy, which could explain the extreme sickness that you've been feeling."
"Congratulations," Pam said off to the side.
"But... how," Cas stuttered.
"Well, when an egg and a sperm meet...," Pam started before being hit in the arm by Missouri and burst out laughing.
"Ignore her," Missouri said, turning the lights back on as Pam wiped Cas' stomach with a paper towel and indicated for him to redress himself. "Why are you so surprised?"
"I've been on heat suppressants for years. I didn't stop taking them, yet I went into heat. I then kept up the suppressants."
"Well, heat suppressants are only supposed to prevent pregnancy before heats. They're not a Plan B equivalent. But, strangely, you went into heat. For the last couple of months, have you been feeling more hormonal, more heat-like symptoms? That could be indicative that you needed a stronger dose."
"No, it was just this last month when I did go into heat."
"That is strange, especially because of the dose that you're taking. Your prescription was last filled two months ago. Maybe they filled your prescription wrong?"
"I have it here," Amara said, reaching back into her purse and handing the medication over.
"What do you now have in the bag?" Missouri questioned before looking at the bottle. She looked around it before opening the cap and pouring a couple of capsules in her hand. There was a confused look on her face before calling out. "Pam, can you look at these."
"Sure," Pam said, grabbing one of the pills. A suspicious look filled her face before pressing a fingernail in the middle, where a blue liquid filled her hand.
"What's that?" Cas asked, confused as to how the liquid got into the pill.
Pam brought her hand closer to her nose and took a couple of sniffs. "Smells like cough syrup. The seal was wrong. It's supposed to be smooth at the line instead of having a bigger end and a smaller one. These pills have been tampered with. We'll need to call people about how this happened."
"Those bastards!" Amara called out, standing up to pace before pulling her cell phone out and typing a number in. "Donna, I need information on financials within pharmaceuticals or any associates in pharmaceuticals. Find me everything."
"Amara..." Cas started, kind of scared of the outburst the older omega had.
"Think you can explain what that was about," Missouri said.
"Baby Omega...," Amara said while trying to calm the anger that was seeping out of her. "Do you remember what happened a couple of days before your heat? You were given tampered with medication a month before then. A month is how long it usually takes for the medication to be fully out of your system."
Cas stared at her blankly. He knew exactly what she was talking about.
"Wait, wait. What happened before his heat?" Pam asked.
"There was an attempted kidnapping to sell him. I don't put it past these bastards to make sure you went into heat for the 'sale.' I need you to coordinate with Chief Singer at the precinct with any information you get and have it sent over. I don't care how many organizations you have to contact. Castiel, we're going to the precinct. Now."
