Dean was almost relieved his brother and uncle weren't there when he got home. They'd gone straight from the roadhouse to Bobby's, switching off driving duty while the other rested. He still smelled like cigarettes and stale beer and wanted nothing more than to shower and brush his teeth which he did. Next Dean went into Sam's room and walked around dragging his fingers over his brother's personal belongings. He sat on the twin bed and bounced a few times. Dean smiled as he picked up the stuffed dog he'd won for Sam at the carnival, it looked as if it had been washed a million times.
He noticed parts of the fur were stiff and it had a particular smell Dean recognized right away. He quickly put it back exactly where it was.
"Sam's humping a stuffed animal…Its better than some of the things he could be humping. So little Sammy's graduated to the next step…"
On Sam's bulletin board was a photo of the two of them together both smiling and Sam was holding up a perch. That was a good day. There was also a school photo of a boy Dean didn't recognize, the kid was a clean cut brunette with big green eyes and an earnest smile. Dean plucked the photo off the corkboard and looked at the back.
To Sam, from Frankie xoxo
The size of the photo was very telling, it was 6 x 7, not one of the mini photos given to friends. Then there was the xoxo, this kid was special to his brother. Dean felt a pang of jealousy but also glad Sam was a normal thirteen year old, doing what teens do, beating off and having crushes. Dean wasn't ready to unpack the jealousy he felt and try to analyze it. Like most of the strong feelings he had, he thought it was best to not over think things.
…
Dean went to his own room and put on some music and opened the windows to let the breeze inside. He raided the fridge and made them sandwiches. Jamie took a crack at the shower while Dean went back to his room. The whole house was a safe haven, warded against any and everything and weapons hidden all over. Here he could sleep, truly sleep and not worry about something or someone getting to him.
The young hunter need sleep but sleep wouldn't come until his brother came home.
…..
When Sam and Bobby got back, they were surprised to see Jamie's El Camino in the driveway and the omega seated on the porch dressed in Bobby's bathrobe and drinking a beer. As soon as the truck stopped, Sam was out the door in a full run. Jamie had given Bobby no heads up but that was the omega's way. Bobby was just as happy to see him and hoped he'd found Dean.
Sam stopped dead when he heard music coming from Dean's bedroom. The window was open and he could hear his brother's voice loud and clear singing along to Space Cowboy.
He stood under the window and shouted, "Dean, Deeeeeean!"
Dean popped his head out the window, "Hey Sammy!"
"D, your home!"
"I'm home!"
"Hang on, I'm comin' down."
"I'll come up there, don't move."
Bobby shook his head and muttered, "idgits" with all the love he could muster.
The brothers clashed in the hallway, sending both tumbling to the floor. Sam was the first on his feet and held his hand out to Dean who was surprised at the strength his baby brother showed yanking him to his feet.
Sam wore one of Dean's old shirts he'd left behind, the one with the Steve Miller Band Pegasus on the front and the teen looked tan and healthy. He had his same cute smile and dimples for days that always melted the omega's heart. Dean didn't have to ask if his brother had missed him, that old shirt Sam wore said it all.
Their first hug was like a two-piece puzzle locked together and totally complete. That was the thing about Sam and Dean, each had a space that lay empty until they were together again.
….
Over Sam's belated birthday dinner of grilled chicken, potato salad and cake, they all caught up, at least for the most part. Sam and Dean had private things to discuss but that could wait for later.
Sam took pleasure in watching his brother eat a second piece of cake with a scoop of ice cream. He bumped his bare foot against Dean's, "I wanted to get lemon poppyseed cake but got chocolate instead."
Dean paused mid bite, "What is it with you and old lady cakes? Last year it was carrot cake."
"I got chocolate just in case you came home. Now don't you feel crappy for saying that." He pouted until Dean put an arm around him.
"I appreciate it Sam."
"Thanks, Dean."
"I'll be sure to forge you a medal as soon as I'm done eating."
"You are such a jerk!"
Jamie whispered to Bobby, "Shouldn't you say something?"
"Nah, this is normal. Five minutes from now they'll be joined at the hip and having a laugh."
….
A few days earlier….
After not finding Dean in the roadhouse, John went outside and looked around but there was no sign of his kid. There was one guy standing out there having a beer.
"Hey, have you seen a teenager out here? My kid is missing."
"There was a tall, pretty one out here but he left." The hunter held out his hand and John gave him twenty bucks. "Your kinda cheap. Anyway, he left with some guy in a red El Camino."
"Anything you can tell me about the guy?"
"I think he was an omega like that twinky kid of yours but he didn't get close enough for a good sniff. Long curly hair, aviators, nice enough looking, rings on all his fingers. That's all I got."
"Thanks."
As John was heading toward the Impala the guy yelled, "Your kid looked pretty damn happy to get out of here."
John snatched the note tucked under the windshield wiper and read it then crumpled it up.
…..
After the boys headed upstairs, Bobby and Jamie had the chance to speak in private. Jamie told him everything although there wasn't much to tell.
"What did the note say?"
"Dean and I ran off together to find our own little love nest in this big, bad world and not to try and find us. I know he'll figure it out but it'll buy you a little quality time with Dean."
Bobby placed his hand over the omega's, "That worries me. John is like a dog with a bone, he doesn't give up or let go. If someone saw your vehicle, he could track you down someday just by that. There aren't a whole lot of vintage cherry red El Caminos around. I don't want you getting hurt because you did a favor for me."
"Don't worry, I've had worse than John Winchester after me. It never ended well for any of them."
"If you say so."
"I suppose I better get going. I feel a heat coming on and its best if I nest in a motel room." The omega got up and grabbed his duffle bag to change back into clothes and give Bobby his robe.
"Well, you've already got my robe so if you like you can nest here. You know I'm a gentleman, I respect omegas and ladies. You can bunk in Sam's room; the boys won't mind sharing a bed."
"Ok, I promise I'll scent block to the hilt so no one gets uncomfortable."
Jamie removed Bobby's ballcap and kissed the top of his head, "You are a great father Bobby Singer, and a hell of a man."
….
Sam and Dean made up for lost time, cramming all kinds of brotherly pursuits into the hours and days Sam wasn't in school.
They even went on a day trip to a festival where Dean entered a pie eating contest and won a small trophy and a blue ribbon pie. Next, the brothers both tried ax throwing and found they were quite adept at it. Dean was looking forward to adding an ax in with his hunting gear.
Dean bought them a couple of tickets for a drawing to win one of many donated prizes. They hung around until three for the winning tickets pick where Sam won a delft blue patterned ceramic pig the size of a bread box. Dean thought it was hideous but Sam thought it looked cool. By evening that pig was proudly displayed in Bobby's kitchen.
…
Neither could sleep that night because of the heat. All the windows were open and a box fan was on high but the air was still stifling. No blankets and boxers only that night.
"I noticed you had a photo of some kid on your board."
"Yeah, he's been a good friend to me and I don't have many of those."
"You got a big picture with some kisses and hugs on the back. Sounds serious."
"Mmm, we make out with each other."
"Oh yeah? So, what's your idea of making out?" He heard Sam giggle in the dark. It sounded weird because his voice was changing.
"Tongue stuff."
"Uh, what now?"
"Frenching, you know, tongue kissing. I'm pretty good at it."
"Whew, ok I thought you meant…never mind."
Sam turned his head on the pillow toward Dean, "You gave me my first kisses ever so it wasn't so scary to try it out," he stuck his tongue out at his brother.
"I could give you your birthday kiss, if we're still doing that. It's up to you, I don't want it to be weird. I did figure out you've been humping that stuffed dog."
"No, I'm not!"
"Hey, I'm not judging. I humped all kinds of stuff at your age, just ask the arm of the couch downstairs."
"Ewww."
"Yeah, good times. Not as good as sitting on the washing machine when it's on the spin cycle. Sometimes I'd toss an unbalanced load in just to get a good vibration going."
"Huh?"
"Ah, you don't about stuff like that."
Dean wiggled up next to him and brushed back Sam's sweaty bangs, "I doubt I'm as good as Frankie but I'll give it shot. Happy birthday, Sammy." He didn't go right for Sam's lips but instead dotted his face with tiny pecks all over the teen's peachy soft skin while caressing his damp neck with the tips of his fingers. Sam let out a whimper but he didn't stop Dean.
The omega whispered, "We don't have to kiss…we're stepping over boundaries."
With his eyes still shut, Sam used his tongue to part his brother's lips and slipped inside his warm, inviting mouth. Their tongues twined then Dean sucked gently on the alpha's tongue. Dean rolled Sam on top of him where the pair made out for a minute or two until he felt his brother tremble all over then tense up.
"Oh babe, that's it…just let go." Dean felt his boxers get warm and sticky from his brother's ejaculate. The omega was hard and wet but would take care of himself later, this was all for Sam. Dean gently pushed him off and headed out the door to the bathroom and there was Jamie, leaving Bobby's room. Both were too embarrassed to say anything. Dean went downstairs to use the half bath.
He brought back a cool wet towel and loving washed his brother's face and neck. Neither said a word to each other about this thing that happened, this thing that went well beyond a birthday kiss.
Now feeling very shy, Sam turned his back on Dean as he washed himself and put on fresh boxers. Despite what happened he still wasn't ready for his brother to actually see him.
…..
Breakfast the next morning was awkward for all sorts of reasons so they defaulted to the weather and hunting talk. Sam seemed ok but avoided looking Dean right in the eye though as he left to catch the bus, Sam touched Dean's shoulder as he passed by.
Dean hoped that meant, "I'm ok, I'm not mad at you."
Bobby walked Jamie out to his vehicle while Dean watched from the porch. His uncle and the omega hugged which meant something because Bobby wasn't one to get all touchy feely. Dean thought it was nice they cared about each other this way. Bobby walked back to the house with a spring in his step.
After Jamie left, they all fell back into comforting patterns. Sam went back to sleep in his own room and neither brought up that night. Dean knew he crossed a line and felt pretty guilty about what transpired. The last thing he wanted was to destroy the boring, normal life his brother had built in his absence.
He wondered if he should have come back at all.

August 19th, 1996
Upper Bear Creek Reservoir. Bear Creek, Alabama
Jamie was very skilled with knives and even if the creature had anatomy he'd never seen before, the hunter still managed to extract the organs he needed for his side business. Hunting paid jack squat but monster parts were in demand. Today he was pulling teeth from a huge, slug-like creature responsible for killing and absorbing several tourists. This was another monster not in the books, the world was changing and not for the better.
He heard John Winchester way before he actually saw him. Jamie turned with his pistol. John froze just a few yards away, his own gun pointed at the other hunter.
"Where the hell is my boy, you motherfucker."
"It took you long enough to find me."
