Chapter 10

Percy and Calypso had been summoned to Olympus within minutes of the battle being over in New York. Standing in the Throne Room for the first time since the end of the last Titan War was something of an experience for Percy, but considering the last time Calypso had been here was when she was sentenced to exile the young man felt he didn't really have a right to complain.

The entirety of the Olympian Council had gathered, and Zeus sat on his throne looking over Percy and Calypso with a troubled look on his face, "The mist has fallen, and you have failed in your task. Hecate, what can you tell us?"

The woman dressed in dark robes stood from a smaller throne stationed behind the council's Omega-shaped one, and she strode to the middle of the room standing just a few feet from Percy and Calypso. The woman was accompanied by some sort of dog, and a polecat that seemed demented in nature. As Percy looked at her she seemed to phase from three separate appearances that he couldn't quite focus on to form a proper image. With a bow, the woman looked to the king of the Heavens with exasperation, "The mist has fallen my Lord, but only here in New York. It seems that while young Perseus Jackson failed the goal of keeping it completely intact I have locked the magic down across the rest of the world, and even the rest of the state. Only the island of Manhattan, and its boroughs seem to have lost its connection with the mist. I am afraid that damage is irreparable."

Many of the gods seemed openly relieved at this news, while Poseidon grinned proudly at his son, "Considering the odds our champions faced I must say this is a resounding victory."

Hecate nodded, "I believe that is correct Lord Poseidon. Your scion keeping the enemy locked down in Manhattan is the only thing that prevented a total failure of the Mist."

Athena spoke sharply from the left side of the Council chambers, "That does not discern from the fact that we are exposed. The mortals could now attempt to launch an attack against Olympus. I have been listening to their meetings as we speak, and at the very least there is an active debate to take military action."

Ares grinned at this pulling his sunglasses down showing fire in his eyes, "A war against the mortals would be short, fun, and bloody. I say if they dare attack us we subject them to the horrors of war against the full might of Olympus, and its allies."

Before there could be further comment Zeus held up a hand silencing the room and looking at Percy and Calypso, "We pulled you from exile to protect the mist in its entirety. Is there any defense for yourself that would make this council believe you were successful, and deserve the escape of punishment that will follow?"

Percy swallowed hard as his eyes flitted to his father, but shook his head, "No Lord Zeus, but I do believe the fall of the mist was inevitable."

Hecate whirled around facing him for the first time, "What makes you say that child?"

Calypso put a hand on his arm speaking in front of the council for the first time, "My Lords and Ladies what Percy is trying to say is that the power in the mortal world is rising at an astronomical rate. I have seen their weapons, and what they can do, but they also aren't our only concern. I personally tested this weapon that Loki of Asgard carried, a scepter, and it held immense power. A power that held something akin to what the Titan Lord held in his prime, and a power like that is going to attract monsters, and other things that the world will have to evolve to see."

"She's right." Percy said quickly, "We fought beside a group of six mortal heroes, and they were incredible. They fought tooth and nail, and their abilities are as amazing as some of our own. If the world continues to witness these events then the Mist will only continue to weaken as they believe what is possible."

Silence rang throughout the throne room, and Poseidon broke it after a long moment, "Son, what you and Calypso encountered was something our mother once told us of, but none have ever encountered. A power beyond the gods. A weapon that not even we could hope to possess or control."

Hera spoke softly on Zeus' left, "An Infinity Stone."

The look on her face was slightly alarming, and Zeus himself flinched at the word. Demeter spoke next, "A weapon we were forbidden from interfering with."

Poseidon sighed, "Our mother told us that if we were to interfere with the stones then it could attract powers that would make even our father seem tame in comparison. Ancient Celestial beings thousands of years older than ourselves."

Percy felt his stomach turn at the words of his father, and Calypso clamped her hand on his arm. He could tell she was uneasy, but he spoke again, "Lord Zeus." The king of the Heavens turned to face him and studied him carefully waiting for him to speak, "Thor of Asgard spoke of a greater threat on the Horizon. He spoke of a being that must have held an immense power to control Loki. I don't know anything about that, but I think a line of communication between ourselves and the Asgardians is critical. If something of this power approaches we are going to need every ally we can get."

Zeus looked thoughtful for a moment, but Athena was the next to speak, "As much as I hate to admit it, he's right father. If a being of this power is truly out there in the shadows, and our world has caught his attention then war could be coming. We will need allies."

Of all people Aphrodite spoke next, "For these allies we will need ambassadors. Ambassadors who have done battle with them, and earned their respect."

Her eyes went to Percy and Calypso and she winked at the young man, and he couldn't prevent the surprised look that went across his face. The council fell back into silence for a long moment before Poseidon said, "I vouch for them, brother. Perseus has been loyal to Olympus in his time of servitude. I believe bringing him and Calypso out of exile to take this position could only be advantageous to Olympus. That will also allow them to remain separate from the brethren stationed here."

Zeus seemed to warm up to the idea at those words as he scratched at his beard, "The Asgardians always did respect military might. Perhaps there is wisdom to the council that has been provided."

Poseidon seemed surprised by the recognition, but said nothing as Zeus finally nodded, "Very well. Perseus Jackson, Calypso daughter of Atlas, you are granted reprieve from your exile, and will be allowed to continue taking up residence in the mortal world. You must stay within a reasonable distance of Olympus in order for you to be able to respond to short notice summonings. You are both on probation, and must conduct yourself as fitting representatives of Olympus." He then turned to Hecate, "You are to keep this council updated on the state of the mist. If Jackson is to be believed then the rise of these mortal heroes could make the mist deteriorate faster than we wish for it too. We need to come up with a plan of action if this is to take place."

After receiving a nod from the woman Zeus sighed, "Very well. I call this council meeting adjourned. Perseus Jackson get some rest, and then meet with my...son to get standing orders for how we will deal with the monster force residing around the city."

With a flash of lightning the man disappeared from his throne before Percy could even question who his son was, and the rest of the council followed suit quickly except for Aphrodite, and Poseidon.

The goddess of love sauntered down from her throne with a huge smile on her face, "Percy Jackson! I did tell you I had big plans for your love life at one point did I not? Now look at you. Standing beside the woman you love as an ambassador to Olympus. How ever did you get so lucky?"

The woman spoke with something of a southern drawl, and Percy as always felt a little tongue-tied around the woman, but thankfully the hand on his arm gave him the sense to continue on how he should. The first thing he did was offer a bow, "I thank you for your interference, my lady. For sending me to Calypso the first time, and then advising the council the way you did. It seems we are in your debt, my lady."

She gave him a predatory grin, and said, "You strengthen my domain, Percy. We can never be in the debt of one another. Besides, I am not done making your life interesting, and while you may thank me today, you may curse me tomorrow. Never doubt loves nature. It can be as unpredictable as the Ocean."

With those words being said the woman flashed from the room barely allowing Calypso and Percy to cover their eyes. Poseidon shook his head and cleared his throat, "It seems that at least one goddess has taken a dangerous interest in you my son. I will do my best to keep an eye on her."

Calypso and Percy both turned to face the man and offered a bow each greeting the Lord of the Seas in their own way. Poseidon pulled some note cards out of the side of his tunic and presented them to Percy, "Athena helped prepare these cards for you to present to the public. As the ambassadors to Asgard, you will also be the face of Olympus while in the mortal world. I am afraid it is non-negotiable."

Percy frowned as he took the cards from his father, and began looking them over with his eyes widening the further he got into it, "This is more truthful than I expected."

The man offered a small grin to his son, "Lying to the public is not something we are asking you to do today, but that doesn't mean a day won't come that it may be necessary. Be prepared for that eventuality."

Percy nodded, and Calypso spoke, "We will do whatever it takes Lord Poseidon."

The man offered her a nod and put a hand on each of their shoulders, "You two did well today. I know it wasn't the exact success we prayed for, but nonetheless, we were victorious in the end. We must keep that in mind as we move forward to the next battle."

The son of the seas stiffened at his words, "How long do you think we have?"

"Not as long as we would like." The man answered cryptically.

Sighing Calypso said, "We will be ready."

The man nodded at her words, "I know you will be. You are much stronger together than apart. Remember that, and good luck with the mortals. They are likely to be scared and confused. Guide them Perseus. Be the leader you were meant to be."

With that, the man disappeared in a sea breeze leaving Percy and Calypso alone on Olympus. Staring at the place his father was, he felt a soft pair of lips graze his cheek, "We did it, Percy. We are free."

The young man shook off the worries and nerves he felt of the coming speech, battles, and alliances that would have to be made, and realized she was right. They were free. They were finally going to get a chance to live their lives together. He took her hand gently and pulled it to his lips pressing a soft kiss to them, "You're right. Everything else is merely a passable obstacle as long as we are together."

The girl offered him a large smile before saying, "Well let's go get some sleep, and then rejoin the fray. We have some work to do before we get a chance to have our first real date."

The thought made the young man smile, and together the two set off towards the elevators that would take them back to the mortal world.

3 days later.

"Listen, I know everyone is scared. I know the past few days have been a test for our city. But I need you all to realize I am a New Yorker too. I have lived among you my entire life. I was born at New York-Presbyterian Hospital just a few blocks from here. I went to your schools, and blended in with your children." Looking out towards Calypso he gulped before saying, "And despite you just now learning of my existence I have been fighting battles in the defense of the city for years."

Every camera in the room was on him. The eyes of the world were watching. SHIELD agents aligned the room, and Percy was trying to calm the people, and ensure they did not do anything foolish. The press seemed to be writing down every word he was saying, and he tried to read from the cards that his father had provided him.

It had been a mess in New York since the mist had fallen. The first twenty-four hours were a bloodbath. Every monster hidden by the mist attacked in fear of exposure. The remaining ones that weren't slain fled from the demigod brethren that swept through the city eliminating threats at every corner they crossed.

It was there Percy was given a chance to interact with some of the demigods. They were being led by a young man named Jason Grace, a son of Jupiter, whatever that meant. Their interaction had been terse, but he seemed to understand the position Percy had been left in. He was ordered to get a few hours of rest following the battle, and then report to Jason himself at the Empire State Building as soon as he was capable of resuming the fight. It was here where Thor, and the other Avengers did their best to assist. Loki had already been sent to Asgard to face judgement for his crimes on Earth, and while Calypso along with Percy wanted some personal time with the man they knew it would have to wait for now.

Percy took a deep breath before continuing his address to the media, "My people have defended your cities before from the shadows. We have been your secret allies since the days of Ancient Greece. The monsters you see in the streets now are all over the world. Something you can only see in New York City is something that can be seen by my people all over the world. The great city that floats above you has stood the test of time, and stood for nearly three thousand years in the skies peacefully. They have no intention of changing that unless aggression is acted upon them first."

At this several reporters began talking at once. Calypso was standing behind him with a hand of support on his lower back. He glanced at the corner of his eye to see the woman, and drew strength from her. It helped that when he glanced towards the other corners of the room the members of response the team coined 'The Avengers' were all standing around in support as well. The first question he caught was, "Mr. Jackson you claim these great deities are above us in the sky, but does this mean the answer to is there really a God has been found?"

Percy frowned at the question, "I don't know if there is a God, but what I do know is that there are the gods of Olympus. Called so for their power, and the impact they have had on civilization since the dawn of man. If there is a higher power above them I have never seen it. They aren't the only gods out there either, and though the mist has protected all of you from their presence it does not mean they are hiding in fear."

Percy's answer was clear, and many people seemed to write down the words he spoke when another voice questioned, "Mr. Jackson, we have been told that you and Ms. Atlas took down a monster dragon-like creature on 34th street. While many people are afraid of what all this may mean for our world, and our country, how does it feel that some call you heroes?"

This made the son of Poseidon sigh. He never liked his title of hero, but knew that's exactly what he and the rest of his brethren were trained to be, "When I turned twelve I began receiving formal combat training. It is essential for my people to have this type of training for us to survive in the real world, because the monsters you can now see will hunt us down if we don't stand together. I tell you this because I need everyone to understand that we are just doing what we were trained to do. We are doing exactly what our gods commanded us to. You may see our actions as heroic, but to us it is only what is expected of us."

"How can your gods expect people of your age or younger to do these things?" A female reporter in the front asked.

Percy grimaced at the question, "The life expectancy of a demigod is not very long. Believe me we would much prefer letting the adults handle it, but I have been a part of that world for over ten years, and I have never met an adult demigod in their thirties. It's the sad and cruel thing about being one of us, and for that reason we start training as young as we can. In the hope that they can live as long as possible."

"If these gods are so powerful why can't they protect their own children?" A man in the back asked.

Thunder boomed above, and Percy looked warily towards the ceiling before speaking, "It's not that they can't, or choose not to, but they have set rules that have been in place since the dawn of civilization that they have to follow. They are called the ancient laws, and chief among them is the no interference policy in mortal affairs. Although the Olympian Council are the leaders of this pantheon that doesn't mean there aren't forces at work that they themselves have to answer to. It is true these laws are broken from time to time, but there are always consequences to those actions."

This made the room take a temporary silence, before another voice asked, "Mr. Jackson why you? Why did you come to our aid during the battle of New York? Why were you chosen to speak with us?"

"That question is one I don't really have an answer to." Percy said honestly, "At one point I was somewhat of a leader among my brethren. Though I fell out of contact with them for a few years I still answered the call to duty when I heard what was happening in my hometown. Not many of my friends and family can do what I can, and I have proven effective in battle. It is for that reason my family chose me I think."

Many more questions came screaming towards him, and nothing was comprehensible for over a minute.

A young woman suddenly stood up towards the back shouting for his attention, "Mr. Jackson."

Many in the room tensed at the sudden outburst, and some of the SHIELD agents looked ready for something to go wrong, but Percy tried to diffuse the unease offering her a smile, "Go ahead, ma'am."

"Despite all the shock our city has received in the fallout of the Battle I don't think I have heard anyone say it yet, so allow me to be the first. Thank you."

Percy blinked several times at this, and before he could respond she continued, "It's not fair that we called you here to be scrutinized after you and your family saved so many lives during the battle of New York, and the aftermath. My life was among those trapped in the building by the Chitauri, and I along with the rest of the city of New York who saw you in action that day won't ever forget the moment you came to our aid."

Applause started somewhere and many people followed suit. Some of course didn't and seemed disgruntled that the woman had offered Percy the thanks he certainly deserved on the behalf of the city. When the applause died down he spoke calmly, "Thank you for your words, ma'am. Believe me, despite all my abilities fighting the Chitauri, was not a task I would've wished upon anyone. Being that outnumbered, was something no amount of training can prepare you for. Thankfully I had a great team watching my back that day, and even though Earth's mightiest heroes had assembled there were several moments in the battle that I was unsure of whether we would win or not. I am grateful to be standing among you here today, and I want to leave on this note."

Percy took a long moment to make eye contact with as many people in the room as he could before saying, "My people are peaceful, and the people of New York are safe for now. The monsters have fled the city in fear of being hunted by my brethren and mortal weapons of mass destruction. For the first time in History demigods actually have a safe haven city, and though I am sure some challengers will step up to test our defenses I assure you my family and I will be there to answer the call as we always have. May the gods bless you all."

With that, he stepped away from the podium as two SHIELD Agents stepped forward offering Calypso and Percy a way out the back while the reporters shouted final questions at them. Going into a room in the back Percy took a deep breath while Calypso rubbed his back, "You were great Percy. You did exactly what they asked of you."

"I am just glad it's over. If I never have to be the spokesperson of the gods again I will count my blessings." Percy said, shaking his head in exasperation, but also relief as the two made their way out the back. A reconstruction period would be on the horizon for New York, and Percy for one was happy to have this press conference behind him.

Thor joined them out back first with the other Avengers following behind. The man clapped Percy on the shoulder saying, "Well done son of Jack, and I appreciate you keeping the Asgardian involvement out of it. We are in your debt today."

"Prosecute your brother to the full extent of Asgardian Justice and we can call it even," Percy said firmly.

Thor's face darkened for a moment before sighing, "I have a feeling we missed something. Loki has always been power-hungry, but there was a moment I saw genuine fear when he realized he had failed. There was a greater power at work here, and someone must have given him the scepter. We cannot rest until we discover who."

Percy and Calypso exchanged looks of understanding when Thor finished while the others seemed uneasy at his words. Percy nodded in understanding after a moment before offering his hand, "Don't ever hesitate to call for us if you need us. I am sure someone on Asgard could figure out how to find us. My family thinks since we have shed blood together we will be the ambassadors of Olympus to your people. If that is acceptable?"

The man beamed in response pulling Percy into a hug from the handshake, "That will be fantastic. Asgard will be honored to have you serve as ambassadors to your people. My father will be thrilled to hear of such diplomacy in a time like this."

When the two men separated he went to embrace Calypso next who chuckled as the man lifted her off the ground congratulating her on the position, and her freedom. When they separated the man wished them safe travels and after an exchange of farewells promises were made for their next gathering. Finally Thor held his hammer in the air, and disappeared in a rainbow of multicolored lights that enveloped him.

Percy shook his head in awe of differences between their two pantheons, but didn't comment on it when he put his arm around Calypso turning to Steve, "Captain, what will you do now that it's over?"

Steve looked at the couple, and then towards the SHIELD agents that followed them out the door, "Someone I really cared about help found SHIELD. I owe it to her to find out if it's a cause worth following. Director Fury is going to take me on as a consultant for the next year or so. I will see where it takes me."

Percy offered his hand to the man, "Well Calypso and I both wish you all the best Captain. If you find yourself in New York again, please give us a call."

"Can't run away from home forever I suppose. I was just a kid from Brooklyn before...well you know. Take care of yourself Percy, Calypso." Steve said, shaking Percy's hand, and giving Calypso a nod of respect before turning to Natasha who motioned towards a nearby parked motorcycle for Steve to take off on. Further farewells were given between Clint, Natasha and others, when the three of them took off and disappeared down the busy New York Streets.

Tony, Bruce, and the descendants of the gods were the last left in the little group. The eccentric billionaire turned to the couple as Bruce seemed to ponder his future, "What will you two do?"

Percy shrugged, "Well I didn't exactly get my GED when I went into exile, but I will try to find some work. Unfortunately being an ambassador for Olympus doesn't pay..at all. May need a good disguise courtesy of Calypso here if I want to remain anonymous. Until then we will stay with my mom."

Tony frowned, "That sounds extremely uncool."

Calypso and Percy shrugged, while she said, "Well hopefully we can find work pretty soon, so we can get our own place, and get out there and see the world. I was in exile for a long time, and I didn't risk my immortality to come out and be idle."

Percy nodded happily at her answer, and Tony's frown turned, "Well why don't you two come work for me? Surely you two have some type of skills?"

Percy looked at the man cautiously before nodding, "I have some experience in construction. I built our home on the island, and did all the repairs myself with limited materials."

Calypso looked hopeful at the man saying, "Well most of my experience is in agriculture, and plants. I am a quick study though, and know how to cook as well. With my own abilities I am sure I could be useful in construction as well. We would be happy doing anything, and we aren't afraid of hard work."

Percy nodded in agreement with the girls' sales pitch of their abilities and Tony's grin widened, "Well I am sure with all the thousands of jobs I have created for cleanup and construction I can work you two in somewhere. I am sure with your wonder woman strength, and his aquaman abilities we can have all sorts of fun. I will have Pepper draw something up for you two. Though it would be best if yall stayed at Stark Tower to be as useful as possible. I can have some quarters prepared for you if you are willing?"

Calypso's eyes lit up at the offer, "That would be amazing. Thank you Tony."

"Don't thank me yet! I won't be nice to you. Just promising you work. Most people wouldn't be so happy to work." Tony said looking suddenly serious, but his teasing wouldn't break down the good mood of the couple, and the man shrugged before turning towards Bruce, "What about you Jolly Green? I know you have plenty of credentials. What do you say about working for Stark Industries? Top floors...once I remodel them will all be R&D."

Bruce didn't say much to the offer, but nodded, and followed Tony towards his car, and took the passenger seat. When both men were situated Tony pulled his sunglasses down a bit looking at the couple, "You two need a ride anywhere? I could call Happy?"

Percy grinned at the man, and did his best taxi cab whistle, "No thanks Tony. Best to take advantage of the mist being shattered throughout the city."

In no time at all a large shadow descended from the sky, and Blackjack the pegasus was calling down towards him, "Alright boss, I will take you where you wanna go, but it's time to pay the horse."

Percy chuckled and turned to Calypso, "My lady, our noble steed requires sustenance before he takes us wherever we desire."

The woman giggled at her boyfriend before saying, "Well we can't have our loyal steed going hungry. I think I saw a donut shop a few blocks back."

The pegasi's eyes went wide at the word donuts, and neighed in joy. This made both of them laugh, while they mounted the creature. Calypso offered a kiss to Percy on the cheek, and he offered her a crooked grin. With a kick the horse took off towards the New York streets, and took to the sky in a matter of seconds. The smile on the two could've been seen by any who spotted the blur that passed through the city
