Harry relaxed in the small boat. The sea breeze gently blew above him, pushing against the sail. Koby manned that sail towards their next destination. Luffy relaxed with Harry too, the twins soaking in the sunlight.
"If we continue this heading, we'll reach the marine base in no time at all." Koby told them. Koby's earlier paleness faded as the days went on. He smiled more too, Harry noted.
"Hey, you sure you don't want me to take over, Koby?" Harry offered.
"Oh no I've got it." Koby replied.
Luffy turned to him with stars in his eyes. "That's so amazing! You mean you'll actually get us to our destination?" Luffy asked in wonder.
Harry shrugged his shoulders with a sigh. "Yeah Luffy. I mean, I can do it too. It's not hard."
"Yeah, but it's amazing how there are other people besides you that can do it!" Luffy said. Harry sighed again.
"I guess it's a good thing he has you for a brother." Koby muttered sheepishly.
Harry groaned. "I tried to teach him sailing but nothing ever sticks."
It wasn't long after that they reached their destination. The island marine based home of this Zoro character. According to the small map Harry has, it was called Shell Town. The three jumped out of the boat.
Luffy looked over the town excitedly. "We're here! The marine based city!" He cried out much to the townspeople's confusion and Harry's embarrassment.
"Let's just go drop Koby off and recruit this swordsman." Harry reminded his brother, grabbing him by the shirt.
Harry dragged Luffy along. Koby made to follow them. He was still trying to convince Luffy that recruiting Zoro was a bad idea. Luffy got his own footing by now and Harry let him go to wander around the food marts. Harry stuck close to him to make sure he didn't eat the place dry.
"Are you certain about this guy?" Harry asked Luffy. "We don't know anything about him."
"I haven't made up my mind yet. I need to see if he's a good guy first." Luffy answered as he examined the food.
"He's in prison because he's obviously not!" Koby shouted, stopping dead in the street.
"According to the government, we're not the good guys either." Harry pointed out. He heard a faint spinning sound. Looking down, he saw his compass spinning around before pointing to where the marine base was.
Koby silently watched Harry. Harry looked over the marine building with critical eyes. After assessing it, Harry hung the compass back on his neck. He walked over to his twin. Luffy by now had found a pear and decided to sample it.
Luffy tossed some money to the owner. "Hey, do you know if that Zoro guy is around?" Luffy asked him.
At the sound of Zoro's name, everyone backed away from the trio. Fear spread all over their faces. Guess Koby wasn't the only one afraid of this guy's reputation.
"Maybe it's better if we don't say Zoro's name around here." Koby whispered to them.
Harry nodded. "Yeah we shouldn't make the town panic and draw attention to ourselves." Harry moved forward prompting Luffy and Koby to follow him.
Luffy shrugged off the panic. "Good idea, Harry! We got a base to check out!" Luffy suggested, turning to Koby. "You want to be a marine right?"
"Well yeah but I don't think I'm ready for it," Koby admitted. "From what I've heard, the man in charge of this place is named Captain Morgan."
Again everyone freaked out. The crowd backed further away from the trio, faces petrified in fear.
That set off alarms in Harry's head. Luffy just laughed. "This town is such a weird place."
Koby walked up to Luffy confused. "That was odd. I mean, I get that they're scared of Zoro. But why freak out when I mentioned the captain's name?"
"I don't know, but we need to keep our guard up. Alright Luffy?" Harry said, addressing his brother.
Luffy just smiled and nodded. "Yeah, no worries."
Harry gave a weary sigh but smiled.
Finally they approached the marine base, which was easily the largest structure in town. Koby went to say his goodbyes but neither twin was paying attention. Harry was looking at the compass again. The arrow was pointed at the structure but to the right of the front gate.
Koby's screaming brought him out of his thoughts. Harry looked to find Luffy climbing up the wall.
"What are you doing?" Harry asked calmly, walking over to his crewmates.
"I'm trying to find this demon," Luffy responded, scanning the inside.
"They wouldn't keep him out in the open," Koby pointed out.
"Not unless they are planning on executing him." Harry added.
"Well they've got someone out there," Luffy said, jumping down and running along the wall to get a better look. Harry and Koby rushed to follow. Luffy stopped at a certain spot, jumping up the wall.
"Hey, Koby, Harry look!"
The other two climbed up the wall to join Luffy. "I'm telling you he's not-" Koby tried to say. Something caught his eye, cutting him off. Something in Luffy's specific direction, that is. Harry's eyes also widened in surprise.
Tied to a cross shaped post in the middle of the yard was a man a little older than the twins. He had a white shirt, dark green pants, boots, and a haramaki sash around his waist. He also wore a back bandana on his head, hiding any hair he had while also shielding his eyes.
Harry was stunned. This man looked like nothing but skin and bone. How long has he been tied there?
"If we just untie those ropes he'll be set free," Luffy figured.
Harry nodded in agreement. "He doesn't look good out there, we should help him."
Koby started to freak out at the suggestion (per the norm by now). "Don't be such idiots, you two! There's no telling what a bandit like him will do if you let him go! He might just kill all three of us."
At this Harry laughed. "Come on now, Koby, you've seen us take on your old boss. You really think we can't handle this guy?"
That got Koby to calm down. At least a little. "Ummm...well I guess but-"
He was interrupted when an unknown voice called out, "Hey you three." They all turned to see Zoro staring at them. "You're an eyesore. Get lost." He told them.
Koby then got closer to Luffy. "Luffy, trust me, there's no way you'll survive with someone like him on your crew."
Harry gave Zoro another once over before turning to his twin. "I'll agree. He doesn't look very friendly. We'd constantly have to look over our shoulder for this guy. Are you sure you want him on our crew?"
Luffy just kept staring at Zoro. A rare poker face masking his features. Harry sighed. Luffy was usually like an open book. But once he's like that, not even Harry can understand him. Or more importantly, stop him.
Then a small thunk got their attention.
Harry looked to the other side of him to see a ladder had appeared with a little girl climbing on it. She looked at the three of them, placing a finger on her lips. She glanced around the yard cautiously before lowering a rope to the other side and climbing down.
The three watched as she ran over to Zoro. This prompted Koby to panic again, screaming at the twins to stop her. All of the excitement did enough for Harry. He cast Quietus to lower Koby's vocal cords, effectively shutting him up.
"Thank you," Luffy muttered as he watched the little girl.
The little girl offered Zoro what seemed to be rice balls, though it looked like she didn't quite get the shape right as they looked like two big orbs.
Zoro just screamed at her to go away before he hurt her. Before she could, however, the gates to the yard opened up letting three people in. Two of them looked like standard marines, the one in the middle looked like some arrogant rich kid.
Harry picked up his compass. The arrow was pointing to those three, even following their movements. Whoever the wizard was that the compass was trying to warn him about was one of those three.
"Now, now, no one likes a bully." The rich kid warned.
"Another weird guy," Luffy said.
"He must be with the marines," Harry figured, putting away the compass. Didn't look like the one talking was a wizard. Must be one of the two in uniform.
Koby breathed out a sigh of relief. "That's good. Now that little girl will be safe."
The middle one then walked up to the little girl, noticing the food in her hand. "Oh look, some tasty rice balls."
He picked one up and started to eat it despite the little girl's protest.
The man then spat it back out. "Disgusting!" He cried out. "These rice balls are supposed to be laced with salt, not sugar you idiot."
The poor child was confused by his reaction. Harry barely heard her mumble that she just thought it would taste better sweet.
The man smacked the other rice ball out of her hand and started to smash them into the ground with his foot. The girl tried to reach for them but couldn't without the risk of getting her fingers crushed.
Harry growled and was going to reach for the group but was held back by Koby. "Harry stop! You shouldn't pick a fight with the marines."
"I'm a pirate. That's my job," Harry countered, pushing Koby away and jumped up on the wall once more. Harry never really understood why, but bullies like that guy there really got under his skin. He was about to go over when he was held back again. This time by Luffy.
"He doesn't look like he's worth hitting," Luffy said. Harry just huffed and went back to watching.
By now the guy was done with the rice balls looking annoyed at the now crying girl.
"Too bad. Guess you didn't read the notice," He said, pulling out a sheet of paper from his coat.
Those who assist criminals in any way will be executed. Signed Marine Captain Morgan.
At the name the little girl froze in fear.
The man smirked triumphantly. "Seems even little brats learned to fear my daddy?" He mocked before addressing one of the soldiers behind him.
"His daddy?" The twins repeated confused.
"So this guy is Captain Morgan's son?" Koby repeated in astonishment.
"You there, Percy right?" The son asked while pointing at one of the marines. While Harry couldn't see his face, he could see the shocking red hair under the cap. "Use your magic to toss this kid over the wall."
The soldier looked surprised but nevertheless followed his orders. He cast Wingardium Leviosa to lift the girl high into the sky before using Depulso to banish her over the wall.
Luffy quickly stretched out to grab the kid, using his rubbery body to caution her fall. Harry and Koby jumped down to check on them.
"Are you alright?" Koby asked the girl.
"Yeah, I think so," The girl replied as Luffy let her go.
Harry went to help pick his brother up. "Nice save."
"Thanks," Luffy said as he dusted himself off. Harry picked up his straw hat and handed it to Luffy. Luffy took the hat and placed it back on his head. "Why don't you and Koby take this girl home while I go have a talk with Zoro." He instructed.
Harry nodded as the little girl approached them. She gave Luffy a bow and said "Thank you for saving me, mister."
Luffy knelt down to be at her level. "You're welcome. My brother and friend are going to take you home okay."
Harry offered his hand to her. "I'm Harry," he introduced. "That was my twin, Luffy, and our friend here is Koby." He gave a nod to the pink-haired boy.
"I'm Rika. It's nice to meet you," The girl introduced herself as she took Harry's hand. Koby walked with them as Luffy went over the wall. Rika noticed this and got concerned.
"It's alright, my brother's really strong and he's not afraid of the marines," Harry assured her.
Rika nodded but didn't seem to believe him. They walked back to town in silence before Harry asked her "So why did you want to give food to that man?"
At the question Rika started to look sad and guilty. "Because it's my fault he's in there."
"How can that be?" Koby asked.
Rika then told them about the captain's son, Helmeppo. Apparently about two weeks ago he had a vicious pet dog that came to the restaurant her mother runs. It was scaring all the customers. Rika tried to chase away the dog all by herself and in response the animal tried to kill her. Zoro, who was eating there at the time, defended her and even killed the dog.
Helmeppo was furious about this and wanted to punish Zoro, but instead of a fight he instead made Zoro a deal. If he could survive a month imprisoned without being fed then he would be let go. If Zoro refused then Helmeppo would have Rika and her mother executed. Zoro accepted. That was three weeks ago.
Harry had to let go of Rika's hand so he could punch the wall. How could this guy? Threatening a woman and her child! Even Koby was shell shocked.
"I can see why you would be upset," Harry whispered.
At that point Luffy caught up to them. He quickly saw his brother's anger. "Hey what's up with you?" he asked.
Harry removed his fist from the wall and took a calming breath. "I'll explain later." He muttered.
Luffy looked thoughtful for a moment before turning to Rika with a bright expression. "Hey Rika guess what. Zoro asked me to pick up that rice ball that cry baby squashed and ate it all up."
Rika looked really happy at that. "Are you serious?"
Luffy nodded. "Yep, he ate every last grain. He wanted me to tell you thanks for the food."
Rika jumped up and down at that. Everyone then heard her mother call out for her so she waved goodbye and left the boys. The three waved her off before turning towards each other.
"Now you want to tell me what's got you so hot and bothered." Luffy asked Harry.
Harry told Luffy everything that Rika told him and Koby. Luffy didn't say anything but crossed his arms and looked up in thought. Harry looked at Koby who was looking at the ground in despair. Harry couldn't blame him. Koby had dreams of joining the Marines and so far this was not a great first impression on the kid.
A loud crash brought the three's attention to the building Rika just entered. They quickly made their way over to see Helmeppo with his two guards at one of the tables in the restaurant. Helmeppo had his feet propped on the table and was demanding free food.
Rika's mother quickly went to serve him while Helmeppo kept talking to the crowd for no real reason.
"I'm sure I can think of something interesting to do seeing as how I'm bored out of my skull here. I suppose I could execute Zoro." As he was laughing Harry instantly saw red.
Quicker than anyone could see, Harry clocked Helmeppo right across the jaw.
The captain's son went flying straight into a wall. The marines helped him up while he looked at Harry in disbelief.
"You...you just hit me!"
Harry made to punch him again. Koby came and wrapped his arms around Harry's front while Luffy grabbed the collar of Harry's jacket from behind.
"I told you he's not worth hitting," Luffy reminded him. Though his words scolded Harry, his tone did not. In fact, Luffy's voice sounded sharp. Like he was just as furious as Harry was.
Harry gave a small chuckle. "You're just mad cause I beat you to it, little brother." Harry raised his voice, cause if he couldn't punch with his fists his words would do just as well. "And it doesn't matter if he's worth it or not because he's trash!"
Helmeppo stayed on the floor. "You actually hit me. I am Captain Morgan's son, you know."
Harry growled while Luffy just scoffed. "Yeah, like we care." The twins said in unison.
"You'll care when he executes you!" Helmeppo shouted, finally standing up.
"Why don't you stop hiding behind your father's title and fight me like a man!" Harry demanded.
"Harry stop! Just lay off some," Koby suggested. "Why are you trying to get on the marine's bad side?"
While he and Luffy kept Harry from advancing any further, Helmeppo took this opportunity to leave the restaurant with the other soldiers in tow. When they finally left, Koby and Luffy let go of Harry.
Harry shook his head. "You're right, Luf. He wasn't worth it."
Luffy just smiled, patting his brother's back. "It's fine. Like you said, I'm mad that you did beat me to it. Come on, let's go back to the base."
"Huh? Why?" Koby asked wide eyed.
Harry quickly caught on though. "Wait- does that mean...?"
"Yep," Luffy said, turning to them. "Today Zoro joins our crew."
The twins quickly made their way back to the Marine base. Koby trailed further behind to the point that they lost sight of him. Soon enough they reached the crucifiction yard where Zoro was still tied up. He seemed to have fallen asleep but was startled awake at their arrival.
Zoro just scoffed. "You again. Don't you have something better to do?"
"Not really," Harry replied before Luffy got straight to the point.
"I'll untie you but first you're going to join our crew."
"Your what?" Zoro asked.
At this, Harry came forward. "You see, my brother and I just set sail to form our pirate crew and we want you to be our first member. Well Luffy does anyway as he's the captain."
"No way! I'd never stoop so low as to join up with a criminal," Zoro said.
"I said pirate not criminal," Harry corrected.
"What's wrong with being a pirate anyway?" Luffy asked.
"They're despicable. Look at anyone that joins up with one," Zoro argued.
"Oh give us a break. You've got a reputation as a vicious bounty hunter who's always out for blood," Luffy countered.
"People can say whatever they want about me, but I haven't done a single thing in life that I regret. I will make it through this challenge after that I'll accomplish what I want," Zoro told the twins.
Harry had a curious smile on his face. "And what is it that you want?"
Zoro seemed taken aback by the question before turning his head in defiance. "Well if you must know, I intend on becoming the world's greatest swordsman," He answered.
"The world's greatest swordsman!" Luffy repeated in excitement. "That's perfect. After all I'm going to be King of the Pirates so I can't have anything less on my crew."
"King of the Pirates?" Zoro asked. "You must be joking. And I've already told you I'm not joining your crew."
Harry meanwhile got a mischievous look on his face. He turned towards his brother. "Hey I just got a great idea." He told Luffy before turning towards Zoro. "I'm under the assumption that the marines confiscated your sword when they tied you up here right?"
"Umm... well... yeah," Zoro stammered.
Luffy's eyes brighten in understanding. "Oh I see where you're going with this, Harry. You stay here with Zoro while I go find that sword." He then turned back to Zoro. "And if you want it back from me you're going to have to join our crew."
"NOW YOU TWO ARE REALLY PISSING ME OFF!" Zoro shouted at the pirates' matching smirks.
Luffy then took off... in the opposite direction of where the base was.
"Hey Luffy," Harry called out. "Where are you going? The base is that way." He pointed behind him where the large building was.
Luffy quickly used a Gum-Gum Rocket to propel himself forward. Which Harry had to quickly duck out of the way.
"Watch where you're aiming!" Harry complained.
But Luffy didn't hear him as he took off running.
Harry got back up, dusting himself off. He muttered some very choice words under his breath in frustration. He caught sight of Zoro's confused face. Realising what he was freaking out about, Harry assured him. "Oh Luffy ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit so his body's made of rubber now."
"Are you serious?" Zoro asked. Harry answered with an affirmative before taking a seat beside Zoro's post.
After a few seconds Harry said "They're not going to let you leave."
"What are you talking about? I've got ten days left," Zoro argued.
"Actually Helmeppo said that he was going to execute you tomorrow," Harry explained.
That took Zoro by surprise.
"Helmeppo never intended to honor his promise. Either that or he just got bored with the deal. I'm not really sure which," Harry continued.
Zoro growled in anger. Just then a big crash could be heard coming from the base.
"What was that?" Zoro wondered.
"Knowing my twin, he probably broke something. Must have been pretty big if we heard the crash from all the way here," Harry mused.
"You're not worried about what the marines are going to do to him?" Zoro asked.
Harry just looked at him with a smile. "He can handle himself." He then noticed that Koby had finally caught up to them. "Oh hey Koby." He greeted as the pink haired teen ran up to them. "I didn't think you'd be joining us."
As Koby caught his breath he looked around. "Where's Luffy?" he asked.
"He went to get Zoro's sword. We'll untie him once he gets back," Harry explained.
"What, you're not going to untie him now? Those knots look tight. It could take a while. If the marines find us they'll surround us, we won't get the chance." As Koby went on another one of his rants Harry walked over and gave him a rather light bonk on the head to calm him down.
"Wizard, remember," Harry said, pointing at himself. "I can use my magic to untie Zoro in no time."
At that point the three became suddenly surrounded by marines. All of them were pointing guns at the trio.
"Alright, end of the line," One of them shouted. Axe-Hand Morgan was right behind them.
"For the crime of treason against me, I sentence all three of you to die where you stand!" He declared.
Harry took a fighting stance while Koby went to hide behind Zoro.
"You've been pulling off some interesting moves here. What is this? Some kind of poorly executed coup that you three are planning with Straw Hat?" Morgan asked them.
"You're not as important as you like to think, Morgan." Harry retaliated. "My captain and I are just minding our own business. Your lot is the one making a mess of things around here."
"Don't underestimate me," Morgan warned. "You're a pirate. Which means you're nothing more than trash that needs to be taken out. Take aim!" At the order, the marines raised their guns up to eye level waiting to shoot.
Harry held up his hand, the magic already surging from it.
The red haired marine from before noticed this and quickly casted Expelliarmus! knocking Harry's glasses off of his face.
His world quickly blurred and he was distorted for a moment.
Morgan took the opportunity to yell fire and dozens of shots could be heard.
Harry quickly pulled himself together to try and use his magic but then he saw the blurred image of his brother suddenly appearing before them.
Luffy held his arms out and took all the gunfire. He heard Zoro, Koby and Morgan all cry out in surprise before using his rubber powers to send the bullets back to the soldiers.
"See ya!" He laughed.
Harry then used the opportunity to cast "Accio glasses!" retrieving his eyewear from the marine that stole them. He gave the red hair a deathly glare that promised payback for that before walking up to Luffy. "Thanks for the save." Harry said.
Luffy turned to Harry "Of course, you guys okay?" He asked, looking the other two over.
Zoro still looked stunned and Koby had fallen on his bottom. Either from relief at being saved or still getting stunned over Luffy's powers.
"What exactly are you, Straw Hat?!" Morgan called out, getting the pirates' attention.
Luffy stood facing Morgan with Harry beside him. "My name's Monkey D. Luffy," he introduced. "And I'm going to be King of the Pirates!"
Hope you liked where I put Percy here. Sorry I didn't do much with him in this chapter but I promise to put more focus next chapter when he fights with Harry.
