Chapter 9 - "Decisions"

Laxus walked quickly in the hallway with an angry face.

.

-Flashback-

"She didn't mean to deceive you. She wanted to tell you countless times, but she is scared that you might fire her," Levy pleaded.

"Then who knows her secret?"

"Me, you, Mirajane, and . . . Mr. Makarov Dreyar."

"What? He knew too?!" Laxus was surprised, "Yet he didn't tell me. He-" he remembered what his gramps said, 'You will need this person when you will realize later someday.' He thought, 'He waited . . . for me to find out?'

Laxus kicked the door startling his gramps, Makarov. "What the hell are you doing?! You scared me!"

"Gramps, why didn't you tell me?!" Laxus yelled. Makarov paused for a moment, and then started to speak, "Your secretary?"

"Yes, I fo-" Makarov closed the door, "Laxus, be quiet. It's a secret."

"I don't care about people finding out about her secret. I just-"

"Be quiet or I will kick you out of my place," Makarov slapped Laxus' chest, "If you tell anyone, you know how Lucy feels? She will run away and move away somewhere."

"What? What am I supposed to do?" Laxus was confused. Makarov smiled and patted his right hand, "Think wisely before you speak. Lucy knows that you know it?"

"No, I found out from Levy," he answered.

"So you did something wrong to Lucy Heartfilia, didn't you?" Laxus had no comment on that. "So . . . go and apologize to her before it's too late," Makarov walked away and sat on the couch, "Get out and let me rest for a while." Laxus bowed slightly, "Ok, get some rest." He left. Makarov took a sip of the black coffee, and then chuckled, "So he found out in almost a month."

Laxus was back to his office, but Lucy wasn't there. There was a yellow note on his desk. He picked it up and read; 'I am sorry that I had to leave today because of my family matters. I will bring resignation letter to you tomorrow. Have a good day. -Lucy Heartfilia'. Laxus crumpled the note and threw it in the trash bin, "Family matters? You left because of me. That's why you are upset because of me." He slammed his desk.

[Lucy's POV]

Lucy rode in the taxi on the way to the emergency hospital, and she cried.

.

-Flashback-

After Lucy finished talking with Levy, she went to the bathroom. Lucy got a text message and she read; 'Your mother is in the hospital. Please come as soon as possible. -Dad'. She dropped her phone on the floor. She quickly picked it up and on the way to Laxus' office to get her bag. She noticed Laxus wasn't there. She thought, 'I think I would be rude if I leave like this. But I don't want to talk to him.' She got an idea to writing the note. She sat and wrote the note. She paused for a moment, "Should I say 'Dear Mr. Dreyar'? That sounds like crappy. Maybe a simple would be a good idea." She started to writing on it, and walked towards Laxus' desk, and put the note on it to get Laxus' attention. She left this office before Laxus arrived.

Lucy still cried in the taxi as she arrived the hospital. Of course, she paid the bill to the taxi driver. She went into the ER to look for her mother. Her father waved to get her attention. She saw him, "Dad, what happened to my mom?" He sighed, "A doctor said . . . we should prepare for it." Lucy shook her head, "No . . . no. I don't believe what you say until I see her with my own eyes." Her father tried to hug her, but she shoved him away, "Get away from me! I don't want you to feel a pity on me. Don't stay by my mom's side!" He hesitated and looked around to see people looking at them, and looked back at her, "Listen to me, my sweetie." Lucy read his lips 'my sweetie' and then looked at his eyes, " 'My sweetie' It disgusts me. You abandoned us right after my both hearings loss. We were doing fine without you!" Lucy turned around, but his father's hand pulled her right arm, "I said listen to me!" he yelled at her, "I do have regret for abandoning both of you, but I realized that I needed you both."

"Money? Is it because of money?"

"..." he hesitated. 'Seems I am right. He is obsessed to money.' she knew a thing about her father that he liked money because he married her mother for money. (I am sorry but it's my own story, not the original Fairy Tail story. I am sorry if I insult her father, hehe.)

"You married and waited for my mother to die for money?"

"That's not it."

"That's why I hate you. I resent you until the day I die."

Her father shook her shoulders, "You are supposed to be a princess. I tried to convince your mother that you two join as my family-"

She slapped his hands, "Let go! I hate being princess!" She ran to see her mother. The doctor stopped her, "Stay away. We have to CPR on her. Be patient." Lucy saw the other doctor performed a CPR on her, however her mother died. So the doctor stopped perform it on her, "Layla Heartfilia passed away at . . . 1:47pm November 20th." Lucy sobbed and shook her mother to wake up, "Wake up, Mom. You can't die like that! How am I supposed to live?" She cried. She died from serious illness.

.

-time skip after they prepared the funeral-

Lucy sat and stared at her mother's photo. Her father greeted all people who attended. Makarov appeared and waved in front of Lucy to get attention.

"Mr. Dreyar, what brings you here?" She stood up and bowed.

"I heard about your mother. I am sorry for your loss," he patted her hands to keep warm. She smiled, "I am glad you showed up here."

"I have someone with me here," Makarov said. Lucy glanced at . . . Laxus Dreyar, "Oh, it's you. Why are you here? You don't know my family."

"I am your mother's close friend's grandson. Also, I met her, remember?"

"Yes, I am sorry for suddenly leaving work," she bowed again.

Laxus held her hand, "It's ok. Your family is more important to you than work. You don't have to show up tomorrow." Lucy started to sob. Laxus was awkward that she cried, and then looked at Makarov. "You can take her with you. Her father and I will take care of here." Laxus sighed and dragged her go with him.

"Hey, where are we going?" She asked while being dragged with him. They went outside to get a fresh air. Laxus stopped and turned around, "Remember your resignation letter . . . Forget it."

"What do you mean?"

"Just stay with me. I realize that I was always harsh on you. I am sorry sincerely," he smiled. Lucy blushed a bit. They walked until they found a bench to sit together.

"Mr. Dreyar, you were supposed to work?" She asked.

"I came here to see you. I found out from my gramps about your mother," he said and realized that he held her hand and let go, "Sorry for holding your hand." Lucy smiled and wiped her eyes that she cried at the funeral, "I will go to work tomorrow."

"Can I ask you a question?" Lucy nodded and looked at his lips, "Go ahead."

"Are your father and you in a good relationship?" he asked. She hesitated and looked down. Laxus puzzled and shook her arm to make her look at him, "Hey, I didn't mean to, but I noticed you two aren't in a good relationship." She pushed him slightly, "Hey Mr. Dreyar, it's my family matters, not yours."

"I assume you will live with your father?"

"Mr. Dreyar!"

"Alright. I will stop here. So relax, Blondie" Laxus stood up and walked away. Lucy missed what he said. He realized that she can't hear, and turned around, "Blondie, I would like you to work with me. See you tomorrow." Lucy smiled and waved. Laxus turned around and grinned. Lucy closed her eyes and felt the wind, 'This is so nice. I am glad that I can keep work with Mr. Dreyar.'

This chapter is over! Laxus decided to work with Lucy again after learning her secret.
