Chapter 20: An Ominous Threat Arises
Gohan stood before the sight of Vegeta seemingly lifeless with a perplexed but shocked look on his face. He saw the arrow protrude out of Vegeta and immediately turned to Kikyo.
"Kikyo... What did you do?" He asked with an incredulous voice.
She collapsed to her knees onto the ground breathing heavily. Her spiritual powers were at their limits now. She could feel it. She was not going to be able to do anything without help. But this entire time, she had been looking out for Gohan and Trunks. It was apparent that they did not seem serious at all since they had started fighting Babadi's henchmen.
She then promptly took the bag of Senzu beans that was tucked away in her robe. Then she took it. It was then she felt her powers returning. And promptly, she composed herself.
"I sealed his powers. Now my arrow of sealing is keeping him lying dormant," she said darkly as she informed him as she went to stand again.
Gohan then saw her darkened expression. He could sense something coming from her. What was it? Anger? Doubt?
Trunks lowered to the ground on his knees relieved that his father was not dead and that he had been stopped, "Arrow of sealing..." He repeated.
Supreme Kai then gazed toward Kikyo, 'This priestess's powers are amazing! The arrow of sealing at this level is rarely achieved by mortals. If at all. I only knew of Grand Kais who had mastered this ability.'
"So, he's still alive?" Piccolo asked unsure, given the fact that he now could not sense any life energy coming from Vegeta.
Kikyo closed her eyes, "Yes. With powers such as Vegeta's, I would have not been able to destroy him. So, this was all I can do to prevent the fight from being drawn out," she finished was staring Gohan in his eyes.
"I do not have the power to fight this alone. My powers are at their limits now," she concluded gravely.
He stared downward toward the ground. He knew she was implying that it was him. He drew out the fight for too long which forced her to take action.
Then she had a blank look that was unreadable, "Does anyone wish to say a few words about Vegeta?"
The now trio remained silent. She glanced at all their faces. Some representing uncertainty, shame and doubt.
"Then let me," she began with a look that contrasted to that of anger, "Vegeta was an idiot."
They all glanced at the corner of their eyes stunned that she would say something like that.
"Vegeta was stupid," she walked closer toward them.
She stopped before all them, "He was weak. Anyone else who wishes to follow the same path, it is easy. Just think of Vegeta, and do what he did."
They still said nothing, as harsh as she sounded at this moment. They all remained silent as they all took in what she was saying.
"We have all this power to fight our enemy, to save the world, and Babadi has us using our powers to dig our own graves!" She exclaimed while throwing her bow onto the ground with a thud due to her frustration.
Gohan's mouth was slightly ajar at this. In all his time with her, he had never seen this side of her. But he could understand that she was already tired and frustrated. Now, he started to feel that he was at blame for this outcome.
"I have been carrying you, all of you, too far, too long. You have to make the choice now. Will you continue to fight as though there are no repercussions for your actions, or will you fight for the sake of protecting this world?"
Piccolo did understand where she was coming from. Since Gohan and Trunks had gotten stronger, they had been lax and had not taken into consideration of those it would affect.
"I..." Gohan paused while still in his super Saiyan form shamefully, "I want to protect this world."
He looked up to her again with certainty, "I do. And I don't want anyone else to suffer."
Then she turned her back toward them to pick up her bow, "However, I believe the worst is yet to come now. With all the energy that was poured into this fight, I can only gather that Babadi has enough energy to revive Majin Buu. So now, we must make haste."
"And Vegeta?" Piccolo asked.
She glanced at Piccolo behind her from the corner of eye, "Take him. If we should survive this, I shall release him from the spell."
Then her eyes became frightfully stern, "However, he is under no means considered dependable in this battle. Therefore, I can only hope you take everything seriously from now on."
She then offered Gohan a Senzu bean from the bag of beans Korrin gave them as they left from the Lookout, which a Super Saiyan Gohan took from her with an uncertain countenance.
"Now, we must go," she said as she went toward the entrance to the lower bunker of the ship.
In the next stage, they came face to face with more of Babadi's minions. They stood and quivered in fear.
"Hurry. We have no time to waste on them," Kikyo suggested as she eyed Gohan.
Gohan nodded and then clutched his fists. With one loud roar, he sent all of those minions flying with his energy, effectively knocking them out.
"Let's go," Supreme Kai said as he and Kikyo went down the shaft first.
They then made it to the final level and Kikyo saw a big pulsating ball before them. She stood star struck at the power it gave off. This sphere is what this Majin Buu was concealed in? Gohan made an attempt to go closer to it.
"Stop, Gohan," she said, causing Gohan to stop and look back at her with a questionable face.
"Dabura and another dark force is here," Kikyo alerted.
Then she grabbed an arrow and pointed toward the vicinity of the mystical ball of darkness containing Buu.
"Show yourselves! I know you are both there!" She demanded.
It was then a tiny yellow looking creature and Dabura presented themselves.
The small yellow one smirked before them, "My... You perceived us, did you? I may not be able to control Vegeta anymore due to your spell, but he did what I needed him to do."
"Thanks to that fool, I got enough energy to release Buu now!" The wizard cackled.
Trunks growled as the wizard humiliated his father before him. Gohan and Trunks took to a fighting stance and Kikyo hastily grabbed an arrow and aimed toward Babadi and Dabura.
"You! You are the one causing this! Why do you do this?" Kikyo demanded.
Babadi's eyes widened considerably at the question, "Why you ask? Because I have pleasure for destruction of course!"
Then Babadi smirked, "Oh no," he started with soft eeriness, "There's no need for violence. Especially in the event of a glorious rebirth."
He then chuckled, "But... we should really move this to somewhere else so that the ship doesn't get damaged when Buu awakens."
"PAA! PAA!" The wizard chanted.
Just like that, they were all transported to the entrance where the ship was where Krillin and Kibito continued to rest on the cliff as stone ornaments.
Steam erupted from the mystical ball of blackness. Which then caught Babadi's attention.
"Now, let's see how Buu is coming along,"Babadi said.
Babadi stood in anticipation as he hovered over the power gauge. It was filled to the maximum.
"He's at full power!" Babadi announced excitedly.
"No!" Supreme Kai started fearfully, "I should have seen all this coming!" He said as he held his head ashamed.
"We are too late!" Piccolo yelled. Then he glanced at Vegeta, who he placed on the ground, "Vegeta... You doomed us all."
"We are too late..." Gohan uttered fearfully as he saw the pulsating ball.
In that instant, Kikyo fired her arrow straight toward Babadi. However, Babadi was quickly whisked away by Dabura... Which resulted in the arrow striking the prison Buu was confined to. Despite this, the arrow quickly lost its power and fizzled out.
Babadi took a deep breath of relief, "Thank you for that, Dabura."
"We have to destroy it now!" Kikyo announced as she grabbed another arrow.
"Got it!" Gohan said as he placed his hands together. Trunks quickly powered up and did the same.
"Ka..."
"Me..."
"Ha..."
"Me..."
"HA!"
"Special Beam Cannon!" Piccolo yelled as he unleashed his attack along side Gohan and Trunks. And lastly, Kikyo put all her might into her arrow, releasing it with all the spiritual power she could muster.
"NO! MAJIN BUU!" Babadi screeched.
The attack merged into various amounts of light and energy and continued to press forward. But the attack was quickly overwhelmed by the aura the ball of Buu gave off. The ball rocked precariously on the altar that it stood on. The group along with the Supreme Kai then stood in utter stupor that not even a scratch could be inflicted upon it.
"Haha! You see? Buu hasn't awakened yet and you still couldn't harm him!" Babadi boasted with laughter.
It was then the ball erupted and split in two with pink vapors escaping from the inside. The ball was empty.
Babadi and Dabura stood utterly stunned, "It's empty..." They both said in unison.
"B-But I followed every step correctly and said every incantation! Why does he not appear?" Babadi exasperated as he saw a puff of pink smoke rise to the air.
"Come out! Majin Buu, please come out!" Babadi tried as he gestured with his tiny hands. But to no avail.
"Haha! All your efforts are in vain." Supreme Kai laughed triumphantly as he stared down on the wizard whose plans had failed.
Kikyo then looked up and that's when she felt an ominous presence, "No..."
"Majin Buu couldn't be revived by the energy from this planet. It wasn't enough to sustain him. And these earthlings destroyed your precious Majin Buu! Now, the terror of Majin Buu finally comes to an end," Supreme Kai surmised as grinned happily.
Babadi lowered his head in failure. Beads of sweat contoured his face.
Dabura then smirked, "Don't let that fool deter you, master. Even without Buu, we can still continue with our plan."
"Oh! It's no use anymore! Reviving Buu was the plan!" Babadi said with a choked up voice and tears streaming down his face.
"To think I'd ever see you in tears!" Supreme Kai taunted as he laughed.
Then Babadi gritted his teeth out of anger, "Well, galactic domination may be out of the equation. But how about we take care of this Supreme Kai?"
Dabura gave a nod, "As you wish."
"Now let's put an end to this whole thing as soon as we can. I'll keep Babadi occupied while you all fight Dabura," Supreme Kai suggested adamantly.
Then Supreme Kai raised a fist triumphantly, "You all should know the significance of this day. With your powers, you managed to do the unthinkable! We only have to defeat these guys to bring everything back to the way it was!" Supreme Kai announced enthusiastically.
"Supreme Kai... You fool. You cannot sense it?" Kikyo asked just above a whisper as she stared up into the cloud of smoke.
That's what caught Supreme Kai off guard.
"Our attack did nothing... It's up there now," Kikyo uttered as she kept on staring toward the sky.
Then Babadi took note of Kikyo looking up to the sky along with Gohan, Piccolo and Trunks.
"Dabura, what are they all looking at?" Babadi asked as he looked up.
Dabura then looked up as well, "They are clouds. I can't feel anything. Only emptiness."
That's when Kikyo backed away frightfully. She could feel it. A limitless well of power that was empty. It was the most terrible energy she felt than anything before.
Gohan then saw the cloud take shape. His mouth was ajar along with that of the others.
When the cloud took to the shape, what revealed itself was a rotund pink creature with a purple cape and white baggy pants.
Everyone stared in shock as the creature crashed onto the ground and observed its surroundings.
Dabura then lowered himself toward Babadi's ear, "Is this the Majin Buu you spoke of?"
Babadi was just as surprised, "Well, I never actually saw Buu before. The only one who saw him before was that rat Kai over there."
"So, is this Buu?" Trunks asked as he gazed at the rotund creature with uncertainty.
"Without a doubt, that's Bibidi's creation. I could never forget that ugly creature's face!" Supreme Kai said with disgust.
The creature, now identified as Majin Buu, walked around aimlessly with his hands out. From first glance, he could be seen as a playful gentle creature. But that could not be furthest from the truth.
"This creature is Majin Buu? Why does it seem to have such a carefree personality? However, I do know for certain this creature is more than what he appears to be." Kikyo concluded in thought as she gripped her bow tightly in her hand.
"Hey! Majin Buu! Come to me! I am your master Babadi!" The wizard called out.
Buu waddled over to the wizard and put his large face in front of the him. Then it stuck its tongue out playfully, causing the wizard to be startled. Then Buu proceeded to waddle away from Babadi without a care in the world.
"So this is Majin Buu?" Piccolo asked Supreme Kai.
"Yes! Don't let his behavior make you think he's harmless," Supreme Kai mentioned.
Majin Buu performed a playful back flip to which he praised himself by clapping.
That's when Babadi walked closer to Majin Buu slowly.
"Majin Buu, I am your master, Babadi. I want you to destroy these fools at once!" Babadi demanded of the gargantuan creature while pointing toward his foes.
However, Buu ignored him. This tested the patience of the wizard.
"Hey! Are you listening to me?" Babadi spoke up irately.
That was when the big pink creature turned around and stuck its tongue out, taunting him, to which the tiny wizard got spooked. Thereafter, the large creature prattled along playfully as it laughed, acting as though nothing mattered.
Kikyo stood from a distance with her bow still gripped in her hand as she watched how Babadi seemingly had difficulties controlling this creature.
"So, it seems this creature does not obey Babadi. How will he control it?" She turned to see the rest of the party horrified as they could now all sense this creature's power. Worse still, the power that came from Buu currently was not anywhere near to what its full potential could be.
"I do not see how we could survive as we currently stand. Once that creature starts destroying all there is around it, no one will be able to stop it," Kikyo conjectured as she continued to eye Buu with a cautionary stance.
It was then Dabura took to Babadi's side, "He is a fool."
"What nerve..." Babadi grunted angrily.
"I don't know why. But his resurrection seems incomplete," Dabura surmised after watching the said creature's behavior.
Dabura then smirked, "Buu seemed like he held such promise. But now I see he is a waste."
Buu then stopped and looked toward Dabura with a frown, obviously not liking what Dabura had said.
"Oh? Did I offend you?" Dabura taunted.
"BUUUU!" The creature yelled with its arms outright.
Then Buu started hopping closer to Dabura, "POW, POW, POW, OW, OW, OW."
Buu stood before Dabura with a smile.
Dabura took a stance and smirked, "He clearly doesn't know he's outmatched. A pity. Run along, Buu. Or I'll turn you into stone."
A small distance away, everyone tried to understand what was going on.
"Babadi seemed to have made a mess of him. He acts like a child," Gohan said while surveying the sight before him.
"There's no mistake! Buu has always been this way," Supreme Kai then informed with a disgusted countenance. This caught everyone's attention.
It was then everyone all caught the vile smirk when the pink rotund creature opened its firmly shut eyes. To their horror, they could feel the creatures might for a brief moment when it gave Dabura a quick punch to the face. To which Dabura howled in pain as he covered his face.
Dabura then recovered and made an attempt to attack Buu. However, that was quickly evaded and Buu went in with a quick kick that sent the demon king flying into a mountain nearby.
Buu landed back on his two feet, clapping with a smile again.
"B-Buu, That was incredible! I think you might have killed him! Wonderful! You are everything I could hope for!" Babadi congratulated with arms up in the air.
That's when Babadi turned to Gohan and the others who stood there appalled over what they had seen; he smirked at them.
"Now, Buu..." Babadi started. But he was stopped when Buu stuck out his tongue in front of Babadi, to which Babadi got irritated again.
"You know Buu, I could always seal you up in that ball again if you prefer..." Babadi started again with a small hinting smile.
"I know all of my father's incantations. Would you like a demonstration?" Babadi asked the creature.
Buu froze. The smile was replaced with a look of surprise. He then started bowing before the wizard.
"You master! You master!" Buu said earnestly.
"Ah, that's more like it. Because I'd hate to put you in that ball again after you had been in there for such a long time," Babadi said with satisfaction.
Kikyo's eyes narrowed at the revelation, "I see... So that's how Babadi keeps Buu under his control. Through Buu's fear of being sealed again."
"Now! Buu, I want you to kill these fools!" Babadi pointed with a sinister grin.
"Me will do!" Buu complied with a bright smile, which had then turned into a dark grin as his tightly shut eyes opened a fraction to reveal his menacing stare.
Gohan stuck to his guns and went in for the first attack. To which the creature evaded playfully. He snuck behind Gohan and delivered a well placed kick which sent the half Saiyan flying into the dirt.
Gohan grunted in agony. The force of the kick was so strong, that it felt as though he was paralyzed from the neck down as he remained on the ground trying to gather his bearings. He continued slipping in and out of consciousness.
It was then Supreme Kai stepped in with Trunks and Piccolo. As they flew toward Buu, the large pink creature appeared in front of them and swiftly hit them each with the back of his hand. This sent them flying into the nearby mountain.
Buu then continued to slowly hop his way over to Gohan. But he discovered that Kikyo stood before Buu, bow drawn. She released her arrow with all the spiritual force she had. However, Buu merely caught it.
Kikyo gasped. It was now known that nothing was going to be able to kill this beast now.
Buu looked at the arrow that quickly lost its power with mere wonder for a moment. Then he snapped the arrow in half.
"Haha! Fun! Fun!" Buu taunted playfully.
Kikyo stood beside Gohan transfixed and uncertain, 'This is... impossible... None of us stood a chance...'
Buu then sent a large energy blast their way. She quickly put up a barrier. But at the velocity that the energy blast was coming, she assumed that the blast would simply break her barrier instantly. In that moment, Kikyo could only surmise that her life in this world was now over. This was where the world ended; along with the countless lives it held.
Unbeknownst to her, Gohan instantly went in front of her to act as a shield. She quickly wrapped her arms around him and laid her head into his back, preparing for death. It hit them. All the while, Gohan screamed as he took on the full force of the attack.
However, Supreme Kai, who had just regained consciousness, used one of his powers to make the blast explode prematurely. When the blast hit them, they were gone in an instant after the explosion subsided. They were nowhere near to be found. No remnants. Nothing.
Supreme Kai knew better however, "Both of you stay hidden. You'll both be fine."
Trunks lowered to the ground on his knees, "No…."
He yelled and powered up and went into rush Buu, "DAMN YOU!"
However, Buu quickly killed his thunder and sent him flying into a nearby mountain again. Trunks was rendered unconscious instantly.
Babadi on the other hand, jumped for joy, "Stupendous, Buu! Excellent job at getting rid of them!"
Then Babadi turned his attention onto Supreme Kai and the rest who remained, "Now I want you to destroy the Kai!"
Supreme Kai then went forward as he barely managed to keep himself levitated in the air. He clutched his arm, "Piccolo. I'll stay behind and face Buu and Babadi. I'll give you time to make your escape."
Piccolo said nothing. He only stared on in fear.
At that moment, Buu had been skewered with what appeared to be a spear-like projectile weapon. Buu had a look of surprise more than anything else.
Babadi on the other hand was in shock. The wizard then quickly turned to see where the spear had come from; it came from Dabura.
"What... What did you do?! Have you gone and lost your mind, Dabura?!" Babadi cried out distraught.
Dabura panted as he tried to keep his wounded body standing. He struggled to walk toward Babadi.
"Babadi... You are being a fool. This Majin Buu creature is too dangerous to be kept under your control for much longer. If he keeps reaching into his power, it will just be a matter of time before he kills you too," Dabura surmised.
The others stood stunned that Dabura had the energy to give a direct blow to Buu like that.
"He's still alive?" Piccolo said shocked.
"Make the best decision of your life. Let's crush this creature while we can!" Dabura yelled.
Babadi however, was not going to have it, nor hear of it from his 'former' lackey. He growled due to the insolence that Dabura was showing.
"Dabura! Dabura! Dabura! Have you lost your senses entirely?" Babadi cried out.
Dabura was taken aback when he heard that from his former master.
"There is no us anymore! You have served your purpose. I no longer require your services!" Babadi stated angrily.
Babadi pointed his finger at Buu who still had a surprised expression, "He has been my life's work! Now that he's here, you are nothing to me!"
"But master..." Dabura trailed off as he was at a loss for words.
"You hurt him! You fool!" Babadi growled some more.
It was then everyone saw Buu grab the spear that impaled him. He pulled the spear out as though it was a mere sliver and threw it. Much to their surprise and horror.
"B-Buu! Are you going to be okay?" Babadi asked in his stupor. Then much to his surprise, the wound that the spear left in this belly slowly closed.
"What is this thing?!" Dabura asked as it seemed impossible.
Babadi's shock turned to maniacal laughter, "Yes, my father was a genius wizard. Just like I said all the time!
Dabura however remained terrified with his mouth ajar.
"Now I eat you! Me eat you up!" Buu said with an evil grin.
Buu then proceeded to tap dance as he made his way over to Dabura. Dabura advanced and planted a barrage of punches and kicks. The final and most powerful hit was to Buu's head which had sent him spiraling and crashing into the ground.
"Majin Buu!" Babadi cried out.
Dabura landed nearby Babadi with a smirk. However, that smirk quickly disappeared when Buu hopped out of the crater and smiled with a carefree look.
Babadi continued to laugh like a maniac, "Nothing can stop you!"
Dabura rose to the sky and unleashed his demonic energy, "I will finish you with this."
He unleashed a barrage of energy blasts toward the pink rotund creature which had left yet another crater. After unleashing that attack he descended to the ground again and rested on a knee, panting for air.
"What do you think about that pet of yours now, Babadi?" Dabura chuckled.
"I'll make you pay!" Babadi said.
"Me eat you up! Me eat you up!" Buu sang to himself as he emerged from the rubble.
The others watched from the sidelines stunned. It was then Buu used the tentacle on his head to emit a pulse of energy which trapped Dabura.
"Dabura did all that and it didn't phase him!" Piccolo said aloud. That's when he picked up Vegeta's unconscious form, "I guess this is as good a time as any to get out of here while they are distracted or we'll be next!"
Piccolo then flew off toward the cliff to get Trunks. Supreme Kai followed suit.
Buu then took what appeared to be a cookie in the form of Dabura and promptly put it in his mouth.
In that instance, the petrification spell cast by Dabura wore off. Krillian and Kibito returned to their normal selves.
"Krillin! Get moving!" Piccolo called out as he raced past the two with Vegeta and Trunks on both his shoulders.
However, Supreme Kai and Kibito stayed put.
Kibito then took on the sight with awe, "How is it that he awakened?"
Supreme Kai in his wounded state lowered his head out of shame, "Things didn't go exactly as planned. Babadi managed to ensnare Vegeta with his magic to control him. That's how Babadi managed to get the energy to bring back that beast."
"Alright, Buu! That was a tasty performance!" Babadi bellowed out of sheer and twisted joy.
Then the wizard pointed vilely toward the two Kais, "I want you to kill the Supreme Kai now!"
Buu then proceeded to walk like a toddler toward the two Kais with a smile that had dark intentions.
Supreme Kai then glanced from the corner of his eye, "Good. It seems they are far enough away from here."
That's when Kibito stood apprehensively, "Master, we need to leave now! Let's escape back to our world quickly!"
Supreme Kai put out his hand, "Wait!"
"Why, Master?" Kibito asked incredulously.
That's when Supreme Kai stared Kibito in the eyes, "Because Gohan and Kikyo are still alive! Take us near there."
Kibito nodded and placed his hand on Supreme Kai's shoulder. And they were gone in a flash.
Babadi just blinked. Then his surprise wore off and turned to anger, "Curses! Hey! Majin Buu! You let them all get away, you fool!"
Buu turned around and smiled like a carefree toddler once again, "Buu sorry."
Then Babadi gave a sign of disappointment, "Well, in any case, we can have fun destroying this world. And when, or if the Kai shows up again, I'll look forward to killing him!"
It was down a dusty trail that both the Supreme Kai and his assistant appeared. Supreme Kai then attempted to walk, however, due the his injuries, he was physically inept. All it took was one hit from Buu. That's all it took. Supreme Kai wondered how they would defeat Babadi and Buu at that moment. But he persevered that maybe with some help it would be possible. Especially after seeing the powers that Kikyo and the Saiyans had. It was perhaps their only hope.
With that thought in mind, he attempted to walk down the trail again. He grunted in pain.
"Master! Let me heal your injuries for you! You cannot continue as you are!" Kibito offered.
"Of course," Supreme Kai sighed, "Thank you."
With that, Kibito placed his hand on Supreme Kai and restored his health.
Supreme Kai took a breath of profound relief. Then he looked at Kibito from the corner of his eye, "Now, we must hurry. Gohan and Kikyo's lives hang in the balance. I can barely sense them. But they are close by."
They took to the skies in search.
"Kibito, do you feel it? Buu's energy is constantly increasing," Supreme Kai said.
"Yes. And that dark energy is impossible for me to ignore. It seems that after many years, Majin Buu is still as unstoppable as ever. I never would have thought that after all these years, my greatest fears would all have materialized in this single day," Kibito concluded gravely.
Then Supreme Kai gave a smile of encouragement, "It's not entirely hopeless. There's perhaps a small beacon of light that has made it known to me."
Kibito gave a curious look, "Are you sure? Does this have anything to do with our search for Gohan and Kikyo?"
"It does indeed. Despite no matter how invincible Majin Buu is to us, may not be the most powerful force in the universe."
"Master, what are you implying? Surely you can't assume that-"
"I understand," Supreme Kai cut him off as he started, "You can't see it being possible until you see the power of the super Saiyans and Kikyo's powers for yourself."
Kibito merely said nothing and stared in wonder.
"We had better hurry now before it's too late. I can sense it in the forest up ahead," Supreme Kai suggested.
They hovered over the area looking.
"There are here somewhere," Supreme Kai uttered.
Kibito then took notice to a pair of bodies on the ground, "There they are!" He had pointed.
The pair descended to the surface and passed some brushes, they discovered two limp bodies together that had barely clung to life. It was then both ran toward the unconscious and injured pair.
Kibito took hold of each individual's arm, "They are still alive."
Supreme Kai let out a smile of relief, "We have hope then!"
"I'll heal them both now," Kibito said as he proceeded to start with Gohan.
Supreme Kai outstretched his arm, "Hold on."
Kibito gave a look of questioning.
