Chimney
A bubble popped on his forehead.
"Stop."
Another bubble.
"Buck."
A third bubble.
"I am going to shove that bottle down your throat if you don't stop."
There was a huff of breath from next to him, and then a groan. Chimney lifted his hand from his side where he was holding his phone, turning the flashlight on and flipping it so he was able to take a look at Buck next to him. Buck twitched as the light hit his eyes, blinking to acclimate to the sudden brightness. Chimney covered the light with his other hand just enough so it wasn't as bright but he could still see Buck in front of him.
"You okay?"
"Mmm," Buck hummed with a nod, closing his eyes and breaking through his nose. "Just my leg cramping up, nothing we can do about it until we're out of here."
Chimney frowned as he scanned his phone down Buck's body, stopping as he looked over Buck's left leg - the leg that had been crushed under a ladder truck almost two years ago. Outwardly he couldn't see anything wrong, there wasn't any blood. The only blood he had found on Buck after the entrance of the cave had collapsed and trapped them inside was to a cut on the kid's forehead - it wasn't major and had stopped bleeding pretty quickly.
"I'm sure they're digging as we speak." Chimney shifted himself, turning his phone light back out. "Shouldn't be much longer now."
Silence fell between them as they both settled back against the stone wall, Chimney's foot against Buck's leg so he knew he was still next to him in the dark. Chimney reached into his pocket for the pack of gum he knew he had, pulling a stick out and popping it into his mouth. A few minutes later there was a pop… and then another.
"What are you doing?"
Chimney grinned, blowing a bubble with his gum and letting it pop a third time.
Buck groaned, "Dude, seriously."
"Paybacks a bitch, huh."
"This isn't payback, this is childish." Buck huffed in annoyance. "At least my bubbles don't make a noise."
"Still annoying to have soap bubbles popping on your forehead."
"Not like I can control where they go."
Chimney popped his gum again, then was not so gently shoved to the side by uncoordinated hands on his arm. He chuckled as he sat up straight again, shifting to not press his foot into Buck's already aching leg. As much as the guy was annoying sometimes, he wasn't about to hurt him more.
"How's Maddie?"
"She's good," Chimney answered. "Don't you guys talk daily since she announced the pregnancy?"
"Sometimes I think she doesn't tell me the full truth so I don't worry."
"You do the same thing, you know."
"Yeah, that's why I know she's doing it." Buck coughed for a few seconds. Chimney was ready to turn the flashlight back on when he finally settled back down.
"You good?"
"Mm, yeah." Buck coughed a final time before he leaned into Chimney's side just slightly. "Just the dust."
"Here," Chimney reached into his pocket and pulled out another stick of gum from the pack.
He skimmed his hand down Buck's arm at his side until he found his hand, pressing the gum into the other man's palm.
"If you wanted to hold my hand you could've just asked," Buck chuckled.
Chimney snorted as he pulled his hand away, feeling Buck's arm move as he stuffed the gum into his mouth before dropping it down between them once more.
"Thanks."
Chimney nodded, leaning his head back carefully against the wall and closing his eyes. Even if there was any light there wasn't much to look at but grimy rock walls and dust filled air. They had been called out to a cliffside by two hikers that had decided to climb down the side to a cave they knew was there and got stuck when their ropes snapped and fell to the rocky water below. Eddie and Buck had been sent down but when Eddie returned with one of the hikers, Chimney was sent down with a basket to help Buck with the second who had broken his leg after jumping into the cave when the rope had snapped.
They had sent the hiker up in the basket with Eddie when he returned to help once more, then, just as Chimney and Buck were ready to be pulled back up, there had been an earthquake that set off a chain reaction at the mouth of the cave, causing it to collapse in on itself. Chimney had been able to pull Buck far enough back only to be hit by a single rock in the forehead.
Their radios weren't picking up anything and Chimney's phone didn't have service - Buck had the audacity to give his phone to Eddie earlier and forgot to get it back - not like he would have service, either.
After a few more moments of silence Chimney sighed, "You still got those bubbles?"
"Like you even need to ask." Buck snorted, shuffling around. "Bobby keeps confiscating them but I bought them in bulk off Amazon."
"Give, I'm bored."
"Bossy," Buck mumbled but fumbled with a bottle, dropping it into Chimney's lap as best he could in the dark.
Chimney picked the bottle up and carefully uncapped it, dropping the cap onto the ground - it wasn't like he was going to need it again - and fished the wand out. He could hear - and feel - Buck doing the same with his own miniature bottle of bubbles. Chimney turned his head towards Buck and raised the wand to his mouth just before he felt a warm breath over his face, then a soap bubble popped on his nose.
"Bitch."
Buck laughed, "You were about to do the same thing to me, shut up."
That was how the team found them an hour later after digging through the rubble at the mouth of the cave. Eddie called to them once the light began filtering into the cave. Chimney called back that they were fine and then went back to blowing bubbles. They didn't stop until Eddie and Hen were kneeling in front of them, making sure they were okay before shuffling back to the mouth of the cave to the rappelling ropes to get back to the cliffside.
