Prompt: Departure
With InuYasha's visit and the unpleasant encounter with Miyuki in the gardens. Kagome had made up her mind. She was going to leave everyone and head back to Edo to see if the well would let her back through to the future where things might work out for everyone…
She was tired of being the deciding factor in whether or not people would be happy and she was tired of all the politics and irksome demon ways she couldn't fathom sometimes, but her main reason was she loved her mate, and she wanted to help him keep his influence over the western domain and she feared that even though he kept reassuring her of his protection and that she was gained the respect of the residents at the fortress, what of the other demons in the rest of the west?
She also was concerned about the status of the epidemic. History told her that many would die and those who were left rebuilt but based on the numbers it was slow and tedious, she was surprised that the demons didn't take over the lands completely but maybe it was because just as many of them were wiped out too…
That morning, Sesshoumaru went on ahead to have breakfast with Lord Kiyoshi who wanted a private meeting between lords and she told him she see him later in the actual negotiations… that was a lie she was using that time to slip away after gathering up a small bag to use a mischief backpack and to grab a bow and satchel of arrows. She dressed in her Miko attire and headed out, leaving a note for Reiko.
Careful going through the protective barrier of the fortress she speedily headed down the flights of stairs to the village below where she checked in with a few demon families that were battling for their lives.
There was nothing Kagome could do for them as before but she did offer some prayers, and basic comforts as a Miko and the new Lady of the Western Lands.
Sesshoumaru felt the disruption in the barrier during his breakfast meeting with the Northern Lord and quietly asked Jaken to investigate and get back to him before the start of the larger meeting… Also, to ask Reiko to escort Kagome down early as well, she would need to be informed of the newest event.
Unfortunately, it turned out that the person that slipped through the barrier was actually Kagome herself and he felt a bit betrayed that she had left. He knew she would have her reasons and that she wasn't just running away… he would need to ensure that today's meeting went on smoothly without her before he could follow along.
When announcing that the Western Lady would not be present at this final meeting, Sesshoumaru noticed Miyuki smirk triumphally at him as they entered the chamber.
Kiyoshi tried using her absence to push for more for his daughter but Sesshoumaru refused to budge. Kagome had her reasons and he would find out what they were after this summit.
Seeing no way to push for more benefits for the North, Kiyoshi begrudgingly decided to agree to the West's terms and the new treaty was signed and agreed upon.
