Prompt: Burials

Edo was like a town wide gravesite when she arrived back at the place it had all started when she first came to Japan in the past. When she had left there were maybe 30 residents left and at least half of them were beginning to become sick…

No one had survived and Kagome walked around looking to see who was left and unable to give the remaining ones a proper burial.

It was a family of three that seemed to be the last ones to die as she located their home on the hill and the remaining piles of bones of their remains.

Kagome grieved for those lost and proceeded to clear out the hut and began digging new graves. Once they were properly put to rest and given prayers.

She roamed the rest of the community she had grown up with since she was 15 and tore down homes and burned the leftover contents to help slow the spread of the virus. If anyone should come across this place, at least it would be virus free.

She left Kaede's hut next to the torii gate, as it would remain as a marker to what used to be Edo… She purified what she could touch and hoped that with some time, everything microscopic would just die in only oxygen, as germs did without hosts. Bowing she said her goodbyes and headed into the forest to talk with her friends one last time, and perhaps refresh their gravesites with fresh flowers.

The tree of ages loomed overhead but Kagome could still feel the ebbs of time that flowed from beneath it.

Sitting down she placed fresh piles of picked wildflowers for her friends and visited with each of them individually.

She talked to Miroku about the expansion of her spiritual powers,

She talked to Sango about her worries about being a stellar wife and what it was like to be bonded to powerful demons.

She talked to Shippo about how pretty Rin had gotten and all about her engagement to finding a husband and how successful she had been in getting to know Lord Itsuki.

She complained to Kirara about dog kind and how sometimes Miyuki reminded her of a sullen cat instead of a proud dog.

Finally she sat towards the tree itself and talked to InuYasha who was technically buried here as well.

"If I'm making a mistake now, you'd better hurry up and appear before me before I jump back into the well" she said aloud , almost expecting him to appear again.

He did not show himself to her again.

She offered one last prayer to them in the afterlife before she got back up and headed to the Bone Eaters well.

Time had always been kind to the well, as she recalled that there were only a few more swigs of vines covering the wood compared to when she had returned back when she was just shy of turning 18.

"Do me a favor, old friend… and help me return to my time." she whispered to the well.

A/N: Will Sesshoumaru make it here in time? Will InuYasha show himself, yes everything about this moment screams wrong :)
