Hi everyone! So sorry I've been away so long, it's been an INCREDIBLY stressful couple of months, but I'm BACK! I do not own anything Chicago PD related, just my characters.

Stop The Bleeding

Brett and Foster responded to the shooting, and found Jay trying to keep Tessa awake.

"Stay with me, Tess." Brett put her hand on his shoulder as Foster threw her bag down to work on Tessa.

"Jay, let us help her." He nodded to her without looking and stepped back as Voight and the team ran up to him, all of them seeing the blood on his clothes.

"Jay! What happened?" He shook his head as he watched Brett take over for Foster as said paramedic ran to the ambulance to grab the gurney.

"We were walking down the street, and this car rolled by and started shooting. I shot out the back window, no plates, and it was too dark to determine a color." Voight nodded and turned back to his team and the group of cops that had gathered.

"Okay, one of our own was just shot outside our house. We need CCTV footage, any reports of cars with blown out back windows. Find these punks!" The team and cops dispersed as Platt walked up to Voight.

"Hank, what do I tell her Sergeant?" Voight turned to see Tessa being loaded onto the gurney, and Jay walking with her to the ambulance.

"Tell him she was shot, by those undetermined." Platt nodded and walked off. Just then, Ruzek ran up to him.

"Boss, the car was found two streets over, abandoned. CSU is checking for anything, but they're not hopeful." Both men turned to see Tessa being put into the ambulance, with Jay and Brett following.

"Who's car?"

"It was reported stolen two hours ago."

"Two hours?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Three hours ago, Quinn broke one of our suspects nose. George Sido."

"I'm on it." Ruzek ran off as Hank pulled out his phone. He dialed a number before raising it to his ear.

"Sportelli."

"Frankie, it's Hank. You got eyes on Sido?"

"I sent him home a couple hours ago, why?"

"He's become a serious person of interest, Frankie. I need to know where he is." There was a slight pause before Sportelli came back on the phone.

"I just sent my guys out to look for him, what's happened Hank?"

"Once I know for sure, I'll let you know."

"You got me worried, Hank."

"Me too, believe me." He hung up the phone and walked toward his team.

Hours later, the team had no real leads. CCTV footage showed two assailants getting out of the abandoned car, but they were both wearing dark clothing and disappearing without showing their faces. Sido and Anderson were in the wind, no one being able to find them not even their respective leaders. Quinn went into surgery the moment she got to Med, and Jay hadn't been able to get any updates. Hailey walked into Med to see how Jay was holding up and he stood up, looking like Hell, to greet her.

"It's been six hours, shouldn't they have finished by now?"

"They're probably making sure that they got the rounds before they close." Just then, Will walked into waiting room.

"She's just coming out of surgery, and she's stable," Jay fell back into his seat with a sigh of relief, "the bullet in her abdomen missed her lung, but it fragmented on one of her ribs. The one in her chest, though, is still there intact." Jay looked up at him.

"What do you mean?"

"It's millimeters from her aorta if they went in to try and get it, it could tear her aorta."

"But she's stable? She's gonna be okay?"

"She's stable for now, we're gonna keep her in the ED for now and watch her closely. She's strong, Jay. Come on, let me take you to her." Both Hailey and Jay followed him to Tessa's room, where Jay immediately took his spot next to her, and Hailey turned to Will.

"Do you have the bullet fragments they were able to take out?" Will reached into his pocket and pulled out a small bag.

"Go find the bastard that did this."

"With pleasure." Hailey took the bag and walked out. Back at the precinct, Hailey filled the team in on Tessa's condition.

"She's stable, for now. The bullet in her abdomen fragmented, they got the pieces, but the other one is still intact." Hank looked at her.

"Why didn't they get it out?"

"It's too close to her aorta, and even trying to get it out could cause her to bleed to death." Everyone let out an uneasy breath, just as Hank turned to the board with Tessa's picture at the top.

About an hour later, Tessa woke up and felt her hand in someone else's. She looked to her left, and saw Jay with his head on her bed and her hand in both of his.

"Jay?" His head popped up off the bed to look at her.

"Tess. Hey, baby." He held her face in his hands and gently kissed her.

"What happened?"

"What's the last thing you remember?"

"We were walking to your car outside the precinct, and then we ducked behind a car."

"You were shot, Tess. Once in the chest, and once in the abdomen. You were in surgery for about six hours. The bullet in your abdomen fragmented on one of your ribs, and the other is still in your chest."

"If i wasn't in pain right now, I'd call myself a badass." They both chuckled, and the she noticed the tears on his eyes.

"Jay, I'm okay, really." He laughed, which sounded like a sob.

"You were literally at Death's Door a few hours ago, and you're trying to reassure me? Don't ever scare me like that again, okay?"

"Jay, we're cops, I think this is kind of in the job description."

"I just love you, okay?""

"I love you, too."

Jay kissed the top of her head and then her lips. Tessa smiled up at him, just as her eyes rolled back and her head slumped to the side with all the equipment around her going crazy.

"Tess? Tess!"
