A/N: This is part of my Agent and The Witch Series, and a kind of lead in to the next part.
"You should come with Matt on Friday." Kai throws out nonchalantly.
Bonnie pauses as she's struggling to open the pack of candy she found in his desk drawer, "come with Matt where?"
"To the field event we're having for new recruits."
Bonnie's eyes are wide. "New recruits….like FBI recruits?" She looks around his open office before dropping her voice, "that's for people who intend on joining the FBI, I am not one of those people."
"No?"
"No!" She whisper screams, "whatever gave you that idea?"
Kai shrugs, "I know you've been helping Matt study for his entrance exam, and he said you've even been joining him when he works out to get ready for the physical. I just figured…" Kai trails off, noticing Bonnie is looking at him like he has two heads.
"Yes, I'm helping him, I figure it's the least I can do." She shudders briefly, "plus Elena and Damon, or Caroline and Jesse are always in the room, so it's also a way to get away from them." She tilts her head, "you think I'd made a good FBI agent?"
"I think you'd be a great agent Bon." Kai answers seriously, and is rewarded with one of Bonnie's surprised but pleased smiles. He knows it only makes an appearance when she's been unexpectedly complimented and doesn't know how to respond. "But if you don't want to be an agent, what are your plans? You've only got one year left until graduation." Not that he wants to sound like her father or anything like that (and isn't that a kick in the chest when he already thinks of her as a potential partner?)
She suddenly finds the stapler on his desk very interesting, "I don't know, I kinda thought I'd travel for a bit after graduation. There's so much Bennett lore that isn't written down and tangled up in other covens. I'd love to start gathering up all those stories and add them to what is already down on paper."
Kai nods slowly. "Already using that anthropology degree to do background work on your family and their impact on the magic world? Very nice."
"You think?" Bonnie sits up straighter. "Because I've kinda already been talking to other covens and so far everyone I've asked has said yes."
Kai lets out a laugh, "hell yeah they're gonna say yes. I keep telling you Bonnie, you need to get out of Mystic Falls. The magic world has been hearing about your exploits for years and were just waiting on you to make contact."
"Like the Gemini?" Bonnie tosses out slyly.
"Hmm" Kai stalls for time, his coven had indeed been chomping at the bit to get Bonnie out to visit them. He opens his mouth to retort but before he can answer, a shadow falls over his desk.
"Sorry to interrupt, but you're needed in the conference room Parker." Kai follows Bonnie's stunned gaze to the man that is currently leaning on his desk.
Agent Nick Stetter is a newer transfer from the New York office. Kai hasn't spent much time with the man this far, but he can already tell he doesn't like the way he's looking at Bonnie. Tall, lean, with skin that seems perpetually kissed by the sun, Agent Stetter turned more than a few heads when he arrived at the Virginia office. Kai hasn't heard anything bad about the man, but the way he was looking at Bonnie did not bode well for him.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but I saw my chance and I couldn't resist taking it." Nick ignores Kai's surprised look and offers his hand to Bonnie, smiling widely when she eagerly takes it. "Nick Stetter, one of the newest agents here and" he lowers his voice forcing Bonnie to lean in, "a very big fan of your Miss. Bennett."
Before Kai can question him, the other man let's his eyes flash the telltale yellow of a wolf. He hears Bonnie's quick intake of breath, which mirrors his own. How the hell did a wolf manage to creep in right under his nose?
Agent Stetter releases Bonnie's hand and nods to Kai, "I'll see you in the conference room." He walks off with the confidence and grace of a wolf that is more than comfortable in his skin.
Kai is temporarily at a loss for words until Bonnie speaks up, "will he be at the field event? Because I'm suddenly reconsidering a career in law enforcement."
