Deep within the toxic swamps of Helheim resides a tomb, one nearly pristine in its upkeep and guarded by a legion of undead. No mortal dare tread near this place, not for its immortal guard, but those they protect. For within this tomb lies forty one beings, those who had reached the peak of power, and struck down all who stood against them.

At least, there used to be.

All but one had left, there were many reasons, but the gist of it all was life ripped them away from the legacy they built. The Great Tomb of Nazarick was no mere crypt, it housed ten floors of unmatched beauty and deadliness that could only be crafted and perfected by those of Ainz Ooal Gown. The first three were a maze of catacombs and wandering undead guarded by one of the most powerful vampires to grace the nine realms. The fourth was a lake, concealing a golem of unimaginable size. The fifth could be a perfect winter paradise, or a freezing cold wasteland putting the frozen lake of sin to shame, its guardian being an insectoid that thrives in such inhospitable environments.

As one delves deeper, they would find their minds warped as the sixth floor houses a never ending forest and grand arena, all beneath a sky filled with breathtaking beauty, its twin guardians care for and defend this floor with all their being. The seventh throws you in a near inescapable hellscape, places of worship burning in pools of lava, religious symbols twisted in a mockery of their former purpose. A floor where only the most vile and cunning demons reside, a true test of the faith.

The eighth floor shows a far more peaceful landscape, another forest now basking in daylight, cherry blossom trees blooming all year long. However the ones who reside on this floor bring fear even to those who created them, abilities and power that bends the rules of the realms so casually. Beings who had stopped an army of gods, and slew them as the lesser beings they were.

Within the ninth floor is a small city, everything crafted to bring forth comfort for the forty one: spas, bathhouses, restaurants, even individual mansions for every being to reside in. Six battle maids and an iron butler stand as the last guard of this and the tenth floor.

Though the last of the guild does not reside in the lowest floor, instead they are on the ninth, within a room housing a large obsidian table. Forty one chairs surround it, though only two are occupied. In one sits a skeleton, shrouded in caster robes of such darkness they seem to absorb the light. A large red orb sits in the being's ribcage, pulsing with a power of incomprehensible destruction. This being is named Momonga, an Overlord of the highest order.

He simply sits and thinks, his 'spirit' having the reigns over his body and is speaking with an eldritch slime. He knew them well as a member of the guild, they went by the name HeroHero. The two spirits continued their conversation through them, speaking of the tomb's upkeep and how things in their world continued to grow bleaker everyday. The overlord understood well how horrid the world of the spirits was, after all they were created to give them an escape from it.

The spirits eventually ended their conversation, and had both logged out, leaving the two with their own thoughts. The slime stood up a bit straighter, looking around a bit in curiosity before turning to the overlord. "This doesn't usually happen, I'm supposed to end up in the eternal darkness after a log out."

The skeleton nodded, "That's how it used to go, but over the past month I've been staying within the tomb after a log out." Momonga spoke in a regal voice, stroking his chin in thought. "I feel as though a change is coming, like the end will grant us a new beginning, though that may just be the optimist in me." He stood with a chuckle and grabbed the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, HeroHero sliding out of his chair to follow as they both left the conference room.

As they both leave, they find the battle maids and butler waiting outside the door. "Ah Sebas, Pleiades," Momonga bows to them as they bow back. "Would you care to join us in the throne room? Our final hour is at hand, and there's no such thing as too much company." After receiving nods, and an excited 'yes' from Lupusregina, they head to the tenth floor. The two guild members look around, watching as the Homunculus maids head to their quarters to be together in the end. A pang of sadness hits Momonga's nonexistent heart, so many lives he had gotten to know, and they'll all probably be wiped out in only an hour.

As the nine enter the throne room, the overlord couldn't help but metaphorically smile at the sight of the dark elf twins. They were two he'd gotten much closer with, as he'd always held a soft spot for children. The two would always sit upon his lap whenever he was on the throne, as he told them the early days of his existence, back before they conquered the tomb, when there were only nine members.

As he sat on the throne, and the twins followed suit on his lap, he could almost feel a tear track down his face. These two were definitely ones he would miss, even above some guild members, though that wasn't necessarily hard to accomplish. He patted their heads as he gave the command for the others to kneel, glancing up at the clock in the corner of his vision.

The two guild members looked to each other before giving their nods of acceptance. The others would not show up, their spirits had logged them out too long ago, trapped in an unending nothingness, unaware of the destruction of all they held dear. Momonga pulled the twins into a hug, the last few seconds felt too final, he knew his legacy ended here. " Whatever gods exist beyond these ones and zeros, if not me then allow the children to continue living."

He knew such prayers were pointless, the devs were the ones who controlled this world, and when they shut everything down nothing will escape it. Though he could not help the bit of hope in his rib cage, children always deserved the chance to grow up happy. " Even if I won't be around, I wish I could protect them." As that went through his mind he checked the clock.

He looked towards the other denizens within the throne room, so many great beings who had served Nazarick till its last. He could only hope they find peace in the end. Though he couldn't help but notice a strange feeling, it felt like being logged out, but with a lighter feeling. He couldn't feel Aura and Mare on his lap, but they were still within his embrace, perhaps his wish was granted? He could not tell, his mind felt sluggish, but a peaceful numbness that brought more calm than his undead nature ever could.

At that moment, the world had faded away, twelve years of existence wiped away in an instant. In that moment Momonga, the Overlord and Supreme Ruler of Nazarick, had died.

It was a quiet night in Carne village, the moon was high in the sky and no one was awake. At least that's how it seemed, within one house a candle was illuminating a small room. In the room was a girl with blonde hair and brown eyes, she wore a dress with long sleeves that were rolled up. The girl held a focused gaze as she was tying a bow, letting out a sigh of relief as she finally finished up the straw doll.

"I'm glad I finally finished it, I thought it would be morning by the time I got it done." She muttered as she placed down the doll, after which she looked out her window. " It's a really pretty night though," she thought with a little smile. " I wonder how Enfi's doing."

Her thoughts soon turned to the cute alchemist, he only visited once every couple of months, but the poor village girl was smitten. So much so she hadn't noticed one of the stars moving, or even that it wasn't one. The blue ethereal projectile flying closer and closer to her window, despite the light it emits it doesn't stir anyone from their sleep. By the time she realized what was going on, it was only a few meters away from her window.

The magic passed through her window without even cracking it, slamming into her chest and covering the room in a bright white light. A hundred thoughts passed through her mind in that moment, all attempting to figure out what hit her and if she had died. Though such thoughts faded away with the light as she saw who else was in her room.

There were two kids sitting on her bed, both had beautiful golden hair and dark skin, their long pointed ears identified them as dark elves. The two had looked towards Enri, their heterochromatic eyes seeming to glow. As she looked back, she noticed how well she could actually see them, the room looking as if it were illuminated by daytime.

Enri slowly got up, just as questions began swarming her mind and throwing her into a panic, she suddenly felt forcibly calmed. She glanced towards the two again as a hand came up to her chin. " It doesn't seem like the magic did anything harmful, just dropped off two kids and did something to me." She shook her head slightly at that thought. " I'm not in danger, I can worry about it later. Dealing with the kids is top priority." With her mind set, she stepped forward and knelt in front of the two.

"Hi I'm Enri Emmot, may I ask your names?" She spoke with a gentle smile, the two just continued to stare at her as the silence slowly grew awkward. Though soon the two had big smiles on their faces, as if they just saw something they liked. The one wearing the red scaled leather spoke first.

"I'm Aura Bella Fiora, and this is my brother Mare." She spoke in an excited tone despite keeping her voice down, she wraps an arm around Mare who just blushes before introducing himself. Enri was confused why a boy was wearing a short dress, but figured that would be best to ask about later.

"I-I'm Mare Bello Fiore, it's nice to meet you." His voice was quieter than Aura's, but was still audible enough to hear clearly. Enri was about to ask how they got into her room, but the elf boy moved first. He had placed a hand on her collarbone, and she felt something pulsing throughout her body. It didn't come from him, just that he allowed her to feel what was already inside, though she felt a bit of panic when she didn't feel her heartbeat.

Mare had turned to look at Aura, the two's smiles growing even bigger. "L-Lord Momonga didn't leave us," Enri was a bit confused about that name when he spoke it, she had never heard it before, yet something in the back of her mind found some familiarity in it. "He saved us, our world was doomed and he saved us." The two began to shed tears before hugging each other, giving Enri plenty of time to think the new information over.

The first thing to come to mind was the lack of a heartbeat, she still felt the magic pulsing throughout, but physical feelings were now muted or non-existent. Panic crept up once more, but was suppressed again. " This forced calmness is definitely something new, I can't complain since it keeps me from freaking out, but this detached thinking is a little worrisome." She looked up to the twins for a moment, the two were definitely happy that whatever fate was in store for them was avoided, but she couldn't bring herself to feel the same joy. " The lack of strong emotions could be a problem too, it's like I'm no longer human. Though thinking about it, that could be what's going on." A small frown formed on her face from that thought, panic once again snuffed out from the forced calm.

As the twins calmed down, Aura turned to Enri, a bit surprised to see the formerly panicking girl look calm, it reminded her of lord Momonga. She gave a pat on her brother's shoulder before sliding off the bed and getting closer to Enri. "You look like you have something on your mind, care to share?" She asked, watching the girl's eyes widen for a sec before relaxing and dulling a bit.

Enri gives a small nod "Just thinking about what's going on, besides you two showing up I'm fairly certain I've become undead, and despite how much I should be panicking I can't." She says as her eyebrows furrow a bit. "It's confusing, and I don't know if I hate it or not." Aura nods along with what's said, patting Enri on her shoulder.

"It's not so bad, the kindest person my brother and I knew was an undead. Just as long as you don't commit genocide or something you'll probably be fine." Mare nods in agreement as Aura spoke.

Enri thinks on it a moment before nodding herself. "I don't think I'd have any reason to do something like that, so I suppose that's a good thing." She said, though immediately realized just what it was she said. " I suppose!? What the hell kind of response is that?" Her mind is calmed once more. " I mean jumping to that would be too much even for me, though there are certainly a few people in the kingdom I don't think people will miss."

Aura just gives a big smile at the response. "That's the spirit, now what exactly will my brother and I do?" She asked with a head tilt, bringing Enri back to her thoughts again. Though eventually let the two sleep on her bed since she didn't feel tired.

As the twins had soon fallen asleep, Enri stepped out of the house, wanting to find an isolated area to think on this life changing predicament. She had gone out into the fields a good fifty meters away from the village before dealing with the magical feeling within her. At the thought of it, she suddenly knew all that could be learned of magic, or at least the magic she now had. There were lots of necromantic spells and summons, along with instant death spells, all within tiers she thought were impossible. " My weakest spell is fifth tier, Isn't that the same tier Enfi says heroes can use?" She thought before noticing someone in the trees.

Her new vision made everything as clear as day, and the man trying to hide looked laughably obvious in his black cloak. She tilted her head as he suddenly pulled out a bow and arrow, her mind beginning to freak out again before a different calmness showed up. It wasn't the forced calm like before, more of a reassurance, like she would be unharmed.

The man knocked back his arrow and let it fly, racing towards Enri before simply bouncing off some invisible barrier. A weird square showed up in her vision, reading that Physical Nullification IV had activated. She smiled a little at that, having something to protect her from harm was certainly nice, though letting it happen again was probably stupid.

She raised her hand towards the man, her mind sifting through every spell she now knew before coming across her weakest. " I don't want to kill him, surely this will just injure at most and scare him off?" The man knocked back another arrow before she spoke [Dragon Lightning, a powerful dragon shaped bolt of lightning shot towards the man in a moment, striking him before he could even figure out what she said, cooking him alive and leaving only charred remains.

In a slight panic Enri ran up to the body, the smell of cooked flesh being ignored as she looked on in horror. It did not last long as soon the forced calm reigned in her emotions. " I killed him, he didn't even stand a chance." Her emotions were dampened again, it grew annoying, but freaking out next to a body probably wasn't the best idea. " He did try to attack me, lethally if his aim was true. Perhaps I could figure out why with another spell."

Once again Enri's mind went through every spell she had, coming across one that brought fear, but soon realized the benefits. She held out her hand once more. [Summon Low Tier Undead: Death Knight] as she finished casting, a black smoke flowed from her hand into the eyes and mouth of the man, who soon began to twitch and move again. The body stood up as black ooze poured from its mouth, covering it before shifting into a bigger and bulkier size.

In only a few moments the charred remains had turned into a three meter tall monstrosity in dark armor. It wielded a tower shield and a flamberge with an imposing horned helmet upon its head. The Death Knight looked down at Enri as she spoke. "Do you have the memories of the man used in your summoning?" The knight thought for a moment as she panicked a little at her casual dismissal of a man's life. It then nodded, snapping her out of her thoughts. "G-good to know, why was he here then?"

The Death Knight couldn't speak, but she heard a voice in her head. The voice spoke of a hundred knights rampaging through villages pretending to be from the Baharuth Empire, but were of the Slane Theocracy. It was a trap so the Sunlight Scripture could kill Gazef Stronoff and weaken the kingdom.

Enri could only nod, the emotional dampener going off numerous times as the voice continued on. Eventually it finished, and she gave her orders. "Find the other scouts, bring them to me alive if possible." She turned and headed back to the village as the knight roared before running off into the forest. After reaching her home, she went inside and to her room where the twins still slept. As she waited for morning to come, only one thought came to mind. " I don't know why I was given all this, but I will use it to protect Carne, no matter the cost."

/Author Notes/

Gotta new story, don't know if this one will be updated or not, but I do know it's going to not be so happy. Kinda like the show, but I feel Enri will probably have a harder time adapting. Anyway, peace out people.
