The doctor said, "we have been running different tests on Ms. Garcia and I just got back the results", Derek said, "is she alright, is she awake"?, the doctor said, "she's still unconscious but I think she'll wake up very soon and yes she's alright" and she heard several people blow out breaths they didn't know they were holding.
Fran said, "what made her pass out"?, the doctor grinned and said, "well she has a slight bladder infection, she is dehydrated and she has gestational diabetes". JJ, Emily, Fran and Reid looked at each other and grinned as Derek said, "gestational diabetes, what brought that on"?, Fran put her hand on her sons shoulder and said, "congratulations daddy".
Derek grinned and said, "what, noooo, wait, really"?, the doctor laughed and said, "yes, very much so, she's around 6 weeks along and so far the pregnancy is progressing perfectly". Derek said, "when can we take her home"?, the doctor said, "I want to keep her overnight and keep her hooked up to IV's where she's dehydrated and run some antibiotics through the IV for the bladder infection but other than that she can go home in the morning".
As the doctor started walking away Derek said, "can I see her"?, the doctor nodded her head and said, "yeah, sure, follow me", he grinned and followed the doctor down the corridor that led to Penelope. He walked into her cubicle and sighed happily as he walked toward the bed, he pulled the chair over and sat down in it and instantly took her hand in his.
He sat there smiling as he looked down at her, she was so beautiful, pale but beautiful, he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it and said, "you scared me baby girl, I was so afraid that I was going to lose you", his free hand then slid down to her tummy and said, "hello in there little one, I'm your daddy".
The smile only got wider as he imagined her growing bigger and bigger with his child, he couldn't wait for the cravings, the mood swings, the pitter patter of little feet running around and he most definitely couldn't wait for their child to call him daddy".
He was pulled from his thoughts as he heard Penelope moan, he looked down at her and said, "hello there beautiful" as her eyes finally opened up, she said, "what happened, where am I"?, he said, "you're in the hospital, you fainted but you're going to be alright baby girl".
Penelope said, "what made me pass out"?, he said, "well you have a slight bladder infection and are dehydrated, that's why you are hooked up to the IV's and well you have, you have". She looked at him and said, "and I have what"?, he said, "gestational diabetes" and she said, "wait, isn't that common with pregnant women"?, Derek grinned at her and said, "yes, yes it is".
Her mouth flew open and she said, "wait, nooooooo", she looked at his smiling face again and said, "a baby, I'm having a baby"?, Derek put his hand on hers and said, "we're having a baby, you are around 6 weeks pregnant sweetness".
Penelope said, "p p pregnant, I can't be pregnant", Derek kissed her lips gently and said, "well you most definitely are goddess, you and I are going to be parents sometime around Christmas". She glanced down at her hands and whispered, "are you happy about the baby"? Derek said, "of course I am, we're having a baby, you and me are going to bring a little bundle of joy into the world that is part you and part me".
She said, "but we never really talked about having a baby, well at least not yet", Derek said, "this baby is a blessing, he or she is our blessing and I am going to spoil them rotten". Penelope smiled and said, "and our child is going to have daddy wrapped around their little finger", he laughed and said, "guilty as charged baby girl, guilty as charged".
They were able to stay together for a few more minutes before the doctor came into the room to let them know they were going to move Penelope up to her room. After giving Penelope a kiss and finding out her room number Derek said, "I'll be right up, I want to go let the others know they are taking you upstairs".
She winked at him and said, "I love you", he smiled and said, "and I love you baby and I love you", Penelope then watched as Derek walked out of the room and headed back up the hall with a huge smile gracing his handsome face.
