A/N:
So this is my first fanfic on this site. I would firstly like to say thanks to Solar and his archive for giving me this idea and thanks to ZullyHD for allowing me to use it despite already having reserved it. I'd also like to thank Fox McCloude for giving me advice. This story is gonna be slower paced than most others, like 5 Equal Angels, except this is way worse. Also this story is gonna have quite a bit of gore and violence, as you'd expect from a story about an assassin, and there's also going to be many, many references to animes, games, books and more, I hope you can find them all. Lastly, I'd like to say the main reason I'm doing this is to get better at writing, so any advice would be appreciated. Hope you enjoy.
On a cold, lonely night, a black limousine drove through an empty street, then stopped in front of a back-alley ramen store. One by one, tattooed men in black suits got out of the car and surrounded it, watching to make sure no one was around. When they confirmed the coast was clear, one of the men opened the door of the limousine.
"You may come out now, boss, the coast is clear." A tall, skinny man with a black beard, wearing a dark red suit with a black shirt walked out and stretched his arms.
"It feels great to finally be free from that shit hole of a prison. They didn't even have ramen like the last one I went to. I've been craving some for years now." The man said to himself, before turning to his guards. "Come on, everyone, don't be so stuck up, let's celebrate my release!" He laughed. One of the men opened the store's door, and the boss happily sauntered towards it.
At that moment, a noise the men were familiar with resonated in the dead night. All of them turned and tried to find the source. As soon as they all turned, their boss' head was blown away, killing him instantly, painting the restaurant's window with blood and brains. Screams of terror and shouting filled the once silent night.
On a tall skyscraper hundreds of meters away from the site, a man, no, a mere boy began to dismantle his rifle and placed it in a black leather messenger bag. His elbow-length hair flew in the wind and obscured his face. Once he finished, he placed his bag on his shoulders, flipped open his old phone and sent a text, and walked down the staircase. While doing so, he pulled out several bobby pins and tied his hair to make it seem like a bowl cut. Without a hint of remorse in his voice, he muttered to himself, "mission accomplished".
Fuutaro Uesugi walked to the door of a rundown building and pulled out a key from his leather biker jacket, but before he could unlock the door, it was swung wide open by a little girl.
"Brother! You're back!" The small girl hugged her brother tightly. "Where were you?" she asked him, tears beginning to form in her eyes. Fuutaro chuckled in response and began to pat her head.
"I was just studying with some friends, Raiha, sorry for making you worry. I'll be sure to make it up for you later, but now, I'm a bit hungry, can you go make me something to eat?" Raiha wiped her eyes and ran to the kitchen. Fuutaro went to his room and threw his black, leather, messenger bag into a drawer. As he did, he saw how crowded his drawer had become, and began to sort everything, and placed anything that wouldn't fit into his closet. As he was halfway through cleaning, a blond man of about 40 years walked in and shouted.
"Hey, Fuutaro, I knew you'd be back, see Raiha? I told you!" Fuutaro looked back and shook his head, "Hello, dad." Isanari's eyes constricted, he came close to his son, and whispered to Fuutaro, making sure his daughter won't be able to hear him.
"I know you just got back, but you have another job already, in fact, you actually have two. Let's go for a walk." The boy in the leather jacket's head perked up at his father's words. As the two walked out, Isanari grabbed two bottles of beer, making sure Raiha didn't notice, and placed them in his coat.
"Be back soon, dinner's gonna be ready!" Raiha shouted.
The father and son walked down a dimly lit street, Isanari took off the caps of their beers and passed one to Fuutaro.
"So, the two jobs I was talking about. Of course, one is an assassination, you'll have to go talk with the employer though, he refuses to elaborate further with me, the other is a long-term contract." Isanari took a chug of his beer. "An old friend of mine's daughters are moving to your school, and they need a tutor, he wants the smartest kid in the school to do it."
Fuutaro sighed, "I'll take the assassination, I don't have time to tutor anyone." and took a sip of his beer. In response, Isanari put on a frown.
In his saddest voice, Isanari said "Well, he was offering 5 times the normal price per session, guess that 25000 yen is gonna go to someone else, huh?" Fuutaro choked on his beer and coughed loudly.
Between coughs, Fuutaro did his best to make out the sentence "I'll take the job". Isanari's face completely changed into a smile, and he passed his son two pieces of paper. One had 'The Pentagon' written on it and came with a key card, the other just had an address '3 Chome-8-25 Teramotodai, Chita, Aichi'.
"One of them is the home of my friend, the other is the restaurant your employer wants to meet at. You can guess which is which. Visit both tomorrow." The two continued their walk until they finished their beers, at which point they began to walk back home.
Once they were one street away from their home, Isanari asked Fuutaro a question he already knew the answer to. "Are you ever going to quit doing those types of jobs? I'm sick of having to get the offers for you, they're disgusting. And what if Raiha ever finds out, what will you do then?"
Fuutaro let out a deep sigh before replying, "You know I can't leave, that outcome will be worse than if I stay. And Raiha will never find out, I promised myself that." Isanari scowled but said nothing more, after all, it was his fault. They continued their journey in silence.
Once they made it back, Raiha, who was still cooking, greeted them. Both sighed in relief, Raiha hadn't realized they took the beer, they could only wonder what would happen if she found out they were both drinking.
Once Raiha finished cooking, the Uesugi family took their seats at the table and said their prayer. As the family dug into their curry, the patriarch of the family turned on the TV at the perfect time for them to hear the news.
"At 7 pm tonight, September 8th, Taiyō Satō, first lieutenant of the Tojo clan's Miyoshi family has died after being released from prison yesterday, police are sti-" Isanari changed channels, making Raiha pout. "You're still not old enough for these channels, Raiha." Her brother said to her.
Isanari mouthed to Fuutaro 'good job' but his face didn't reflect what he was saying.
