Origins of Monsters*

"Do you want to talk about Powell's letter?" Todd asked.

"Yes Marty, perhaps you should talk about how Powell lied in that letter to protect you," she heard Zach's voice whispering in her ear.

She looked towards the voice and saw him with blood dripping from his head, just the way that she saw him last.

She shuddered as Powell appeared before her as well, "I killed myself because of you," he whispered as he had a bedsheet wrapped around his neck like a noose.

"Marty, are you alright?" Todd asked.

She blinked her eyes, but they were still there, haunting her. She felt the chills and knew from experience that she had a fever. Perhaps the visions were the result of that fever, but what if they weren't.

"Marty?" Todd asked again when she didn't respond.

She could hear Todd, but it was so hard to focus on his voice alone when she heard so many others. Perhaps if she looked at him it would help her to focus on his voice alone. She looked towards him but there was a clown standing near him. He looked just like the joker except there was something stabbed inside of his stomach.

He didn't say anything but walked towards her. He pulled a pair of scissors out of the wound in his stomach and handed it to her. She stared at the scissors, they were purple and reminded her of a pair of scissors that had been at Aunt Kiki's house when she was just a little girl.

"Marty?" Todd whispered as he cautiously reached out and touched her hand.

When he touched her the scissors disappeared. She looked up and the Joker, Powell and Zach were gone.

"They're gone," she whispered.

"Who's gone?" Todd asked.

"The monsters from my nightmares," she said as she pulled away from him. She headed into the kitchen and began to open up all the drawers.

"What are you doing?" Todd asked.

"Where is it? Where's the Vodka?" Marty asked.

"We dumped all of your alcohol, remember," Todd explained.

"That's right," she said as she grabbed her coat.

"Where are you going?" Todd asked.

"Rodi's, I need a drink," she said.

"That's the last thing that you need," Todd said.

"I'm going with or without you," she said as she opened the door.

"Wait, I'll come with you," he said.

XOXOXO

"Where do you think monsters come from?" Marty asked as she took a shot of her vodka.

"What do you mean?" Todd asked.

"Do you think they are born or created from life's experiences?" She asked.

"I still think that they are born. It turns out that my biological father was a rapist just like me. I never stood a chance," Todd said as he took a sip of his beer.

"Perhaps, but I still think that monsters are created from life's experiences. Peter wasn't that great to you growing up. He could have turned you into what you became. I don't think that I was born a murderer, but I certainly became one. Zach, Powell, perhaps even the Joker is dead because of me."

"You are not a monster Marty, Zach and Powell, their deaths were not your fault. If you need to blame somebody then you can blame me. I was the one that set everything into motion," Todd whispered.

"I'm going to go outside, I just need a little air," Marty said as she stood up.

"I'll come with you, just wait for me to go to the bathroom," Todd said.

"Just meet me out there when you are done," Marty said.

XOXOXO

"Help! Somebody help me!" Todd shouted as he went outside and found Marty laying face down on the ground.

"What's going on?" The bartender said as he went outside.

"Call the police, she's running a fever, I think that she's sick," Todd said as he placed his hand on her forehead.

"How long does it take for them to drive a couple of miles?" Todd asked as he stood up and began to pace.

"Manning, what did you do this time?" Bo asked as he walked up.

"I didn't do anything, we just had a couple of drinks and then I walked out here and she was laying face down," Todd said as the paramedics showed up.

"She's not supposed to be drinking," Bo said.

"What do you mean?" Todd asked.

"Nothing," he said as the paramedics loaded Marty onto a stretcher.

"I'm going with her," Todd said as he climbed into the ambulance.

"Come on Marty, open up your eyes, I can't lose you," Todd whispered to her.
