Chris' abilities for her Symphogear extend even outside of the battlefield.
"Do you think Chris will be okay? It's her first time after all," Kohinata Miku, second year at Lydian, asks her childhood friend.
"Hmmm… Chris-chan is not really good at sport, so it might be hard on her, but she should be fine, somehow…" the childhood friend Tachibana Hibiki trails, unsure on how well her senpai would perform.
Today was a joint P.E session between second years and third-years, specifically Yukine Chris' class and Tachibana Hibiki and her friends' one. The activity was basketball, and the second years were well aware of their senpai's standing on physical activities; not great.
"I believe Yukine-san is able to handle it," says Terashima Shiori.
"She may surprise all of us and revealing herself a genius at it!" exclaims Itaba Yumi.
"Ah! It's Kinekuri's turn," Andō Kuriyo announces to her friends when she spots the girl of their discussion.
"Do your best Chris-chan!" Hibiki cheers loudly, attracting the attention of said girl alongside her teammates as well as other students.
Yukine sends them a small wave before taking the position she chooses for herself and in accordance with the other team members.
Her team begins the attack and they rush forward with her staying a bit behind, outside the three-point arc to fulfill her role. It took little time for her to receive the ball when the defense under the basket was getting rather tight and she was free.
The moment she receives the ball that a member of the opponent team was rushing toward her, but it was too late, far too late. Eyes fixed on the ring, she jumps, launching the ball in the circle to score at the surprise of everyone, the ball performing a perfect curve before finishing its course in it, scoring the first three-pointer for her team and the match.
The court was silent, letting the other students taking in what exactly happen.
"Wow! Amazing Chris-chan!" At least until her kouhai decide to put some voice and cheer into it, her voice seemingly setting everything in motion as she was praised by her team members. She glances around the opposing team and could already gather that most of them were thinking of it as a fluke, she will just need to show them otherwise.
She obviously didn't pick the position of shooting guard randomly, Chris was conscious of her build, small stature and especially the two balls hanging on her chest. Without even mentioning her own stamina, it was easy to come to terms that scoring three-pointer and passing the ball was her job of predilection for the game.
This time they need to defend, she was not looking forward to it, she might be training regularly with her comrade in her arms, but it doesn't mean she can handle physical confrontation head-on as easily as the brawler of the team or the idol.
Though following the movement of the ball is in her range of abilities, her opponent's movements were easy to catch on the eyes and she could see plenty of opening between each rebound.
And she was fast enough to be able to react to them at the right moment. So when her opponent tried a feint in one direction before moving opposite, the punishment was swift and precise, her hands intercepting the ball mild rebound before stepping aside from the opponent.
The girl who lost the ball in her attempt to pass her was unable to recover in time as she watches the smaller girl jumping in the air before her arms shoot straight forward, the ball flying in the air in another curve, touching the panel before entering the circle, scoring another three-pointer.
Another cheer from the loud girl echoing in the gymnasium as she shouts the name of the girl scoring.
By now, Chris was certain that her teammates as well as the opposite team understood that it was not a fluke and that she would be the main scorer if not stopped.
Except, basketball was is a collective game, she may be able to score on her own when given the opportunity, but in case she is unable to, she can pass to someone else, her precise shots extending to precise pass allowing her teammates a certain fluidity to score on their own.
And in the case their focus falls back on her teammates to hinder her passes, she would simply shoot herself, scoring another three-pointer to their dismay.
That's how the twenty minutes match unfolded, Chris scoring every so often when she has the ball if she was not passing to someone else. The match won with a margin of eighteen points with the silver-haired girl scoring a final three-pointer from half the court right before the timer was up.
When their victory was announced and the team complimented her, she made her way back to her kouhai's, receiving impressed look, ones of admiration and even of pure glee for someone as she leans heavily against the wall. Despite her best attempt to play conservatively, she was indeed both sweaty and tired.
Surprisingly, the first one to address her was Kuriyo Andō, complimenting her on the number of three-pointers she scored, not missing any and that she should totally join the club. 'Yeah not happening' the senpai thought.
"Yeah, how did you do that Chris-chan? You got a 100% accuracy overall," Hibiki interject.
Chris scoffs at that, taking the bottle of water that was handed to her by the girl's childhood friend and taking a generous gulp, wiping herself with the back of her hand before answering. "I'm shooting moving targets on a regular basis. A big ring immobile is child play in comparison. The only worry was the required strength I need to put in each shot, which I solved before the actual match."
The girls simply look at her with a mix of a deadpan expression and bewilderment for a moment before Kuriyo voices their collective thought. "Kinekuri, not anybody can get the hold on this that easily or that fast."
Chris shrugs in answer taking another sip of her drink. "Anyway, you're all are up next, give it your best."
"We will win this for you Chris-chan, can't let our senpai down after such a show," Hibiki announces as she heads to the court with her friends and teammate.
Chris shook her head before allowing herself to slide down the length of the wall to sit on the floor, she got the duration of their match to rest before needing to play another one, so she may as well get comfortable to watch her cute kouhais plays.
At least until she was swarmed by her own classmates.
