Chapter 4: The Intruder

hello everyone once again I am glad to see you come to my fanfic… now don't worry every fanfic on my page except for the green, danganronpa fanfics will be completed… I promise… he he. Anyway we are balls deep in the hiatus season and I am sweating… I want luz to stay on the boiling isles with eda but I don't want her to abandon her mother on earth… it is compelling storytelling.
A brisk jog in the windy weather got Tristan maia's blood running. He was dressed in his typical jersey and pants but managed to find some weights eda had and strapped them to his legs and arms. A cool sweat streaked down his face.
He then saw out of the foilage of the woods to see the Owl house. He smiled at that and then dashed as fast as could reaching the house in half a second.
He opened the door never slowing his pace until he entered and slammed the door.
"Woo! Oracle magic may be cheating in football but it does wonders for my exercise routine." Tristan said excitement bubbling.
He saw luz sitting near the counter, a fresh cup of appleblood in her hand. Perspiration of the juice covered the glass.
"Light bright? What's wrong?"
Luz didn't look at her friend only pointing her finger toward the wall.
On the wall sitted two banned posters in nice frames. On each of the posters was luz and tristan.
"Oh yeah, eda didn't waste time in putting those up. Hehe, she was so proud." Tristan chuckled to himself. Eda gave the boy a noggie after both willow and gus handed them the poster.
Luz hid her face in her hands and groaned in frustration.
"I know Luz, it sucks that amity had to be a sore loser… but I know what can make you happy." A smirk crept it's way on tristan's face.
"eyes as green as emeralds." Tristan began to sing. "Heart so young and pure."
"Stop…" Luz groaned.
"champion of peace… come on you know the words." tristan said clapping his hands. "savior of the world…"
Then luz jumped off and went into the chorus.
Tristan stood back and smiled as luz began singing her heart out. It's too bad I don't have my phone on me… this would be gold.
Tristan let her finish as he clapped his hand for her. "feel better now?" Tristan asked shaking his head as Luz had made her way to stand on the counter.
She blushed at his teasing as she hopped down and took her seat. "Yeah, I just wish eda would teach me how to do magic?"
"what if I talk with her… she owes me for cleaning hooty last night." the owl had gotten into a fight with giant dung beetles… "the horror… the unforeseeable horror." he shirked.
"you and eda have gotten friendly lately… is she your new mami?"
"No!" Tristan replied blushing. It was true that eda was someone he trusted and actually liked her but it was more like a cool aunt or a big sister… both things that tristan wanted in the human world but his parents never gave him.
The crash of thunder outside caught the two teens attention.
"I love the rain!"
Luz started running outside but tristan immediately grabbed her arm and stopped her.
"tristan?"
"Give it a sec." tristan opened the door to show the rain hitting the ground. "take a look."
Luz watched the rainfall as hundreds of drops met the ground. "it sure looks like rain."
"look closer… watch the plant life."
Luz squinted her eyes to a flower and when it was hit by the raindrops began to wilt and burn. "what the heck?"
"Boiling rain… it could burn you alive." Tristan shook his head and mumbled under his breath. "crazy island."
they watched as eda ran from the bushed toward the house. "Boiling rains, get inside!" she yelled grabbing her bag.
The witch then stood under the canopy over her door. She then began doing a spell which allowed her to place a barrier around the house.
"I really want to learn that barrier spell… it'd be so cool." Tristan noted.
"I'd like to learn any spell… eda is so cool. Why do they call her the owl lady?"
"Because I'm so wise…" Eda responded.
"because she coughs up rat bones." Hooty added.
"I think it's because she gets distratced by shiny objects." King added walking out of the house.
"what? No I don't…"
King then pulled out a pen with a light up gem topper. He clicked it and watched it brighten.
"It sparkles and shimmers, it shines and delights… I must have it for my nest." eda said in a creepy voice as her eyes expanded and she ran to grab it.
King pulled it away when she tried and grabbed it.
Tristan took it from king and then glared at him. "Here amada tia."
"thank you tristan, at least someone still respects me… well I'm off to bed… tristan do you have any warmed milk for me."
"I can get you some if you'd like eda."
"Please," she said as she entered the house and then went to cover herself.
"eda you looked so cool out there and you are rocking that fang."
"I'm not teaching you magic tonight… I'm sleepy, I'm a sleepy little owl."
"Here you go eda, warm griffons milk." Tristan sat at the edge of the coach with a glass and a small spoon.
"feed it to me, please… sweetheart." eda usually didn't like acting maternal but she felt comfortable around Tristan like a nephew after her own heart.
Tristan dipped the spoon in the milk, pulled it out, and then blew it. "here you go, mama eda." he said in a mocking tone. Placing the spoon In her mouth.
A little milk dripped down eda's cheek.
"I swear old woman, you're hopeless." Tristan said, taking a napkin and wiping her cheek.
"you're so sweet… what did I ever do to deserve you."
"stealing from the guard station last week was more then enough."
The two smiled.
Luz cleared her throat seizing her oppurtunity.
"Oh of course, eda could you teach luz one spell, please." Tristan extended the last word trying to play on eda's sympathy.
"I'm tired… feed me more milk, please." she said the last word quickly realizing she was acting demanding.
"eda, who makes sure that your nest is clean?"
"you,"
"and who messages your feet when you've had a rough day?"
"You,"
"and who handwashes your dirty laundry because you can't go to any of the laundramats due to creepy people on the isles stealing your clothes."
"Okay fine, I'll teach her one spell."
"Thank you. Let me finish feeding you your milk." Tristan Spoon fed eda the milk and she smiled at this.
"you know I spoil you kids right?"
"Just like I spoil you."
Eda jumped out and bed then yawned into her hand. "alright the spell circle is the cornerstone of making magic." eda then used a spell circle to summon a ball of light.
"cool!"
"Meh," Tristan then tried to show how easy it was for him… but when the spell circle was complete it seemed to fizzle. "what the–"
"Ha ah ah, that's hilarious!" eda howled slapping her knee.
"what happened?" Luz asked genuinely confused.
"well kid, this is a phenomena and I don't fully understand what is going on." Eda then took a couple steps toward her kitchen. She pulls out a sleeve of paper and opens it to reveal a heart with a strange attachment to it.
"what is that? It's making me sick just by looking at it." Tristan shakes his head.
"this is a witches heart and the source of their power." eda explained tapping on the strange sac like attachment. "the bile sac is where the witches magic comes from and allows them to do spell circles"
"can I have that?" Luz asked reaching for it.
Eda smacks luz's hand lightly and chuckles as the kid rescinds her hand. "It is my theory that since Tristan has been in the human realm for the entirety of his life and he is just now awakening to his magical abilities… he can only do magic of the oracle coven which he seems to have a strange affinity for."
"Oooh, but If a bile sac is required then how am I to do magic?" Luz asked, nodding her head to eda's words.
"I… don't know. Witches used to do it a different way in the past but for the life of me I don't know how."
Luz frowned after that. "but hey let's give it the old college try… after my nap." Eda said taking a couple steps away before luz taps her shoulder.
"can you do it one more time… I'll record it with my phone."
"Ugh, fine." Eda then began using a spell circle to summon the light ball but as she ws about to complete it… she fell over.
Tristan ran to Eda and grabbed her. The boy picked up eda and held her like a newborn.
"Is she…" Luz asked her voice trembling.
"Yeah… she's asleep." Tristan chuckled at his joke.
"Jerk…" Luz said under her breath.
"Let's get grandma in her bed." Tristan walked up the stairs holding eda. He took her to the nest and tucked her in, the placed a pillow under her head.
"Goodnight eda, have sweet dreams of snails and appleblood." He whispered walking away from the room.
He nearly ran into luz who had big eyes and let out a soft moan.
"What is this?"
"you're so protective of eda… it's adorable." Luz said sniffling.
"Stop it Luz, that's weird."
"It's not! You're such a good guy."
"Let's go downstairs before king…"
a loud crash echoed downstairs.
"… Too late"
The two returned downstairs to see that king had a sort of mock classroom set up. Complete with a dart board filled with pictures of demons some drawn, others with a camera.
"what are you doing king?" Tristan asked taking a seat at the counter.
"I'm glad you asked tristan… you and luz have been so focused on witch stuff that you've neglected your education on my kind… demons."
"Oh god," Tristan groaned.
Luz jabbed him in the arm and grabbed his hand leading tristan to sit beside her to listen to king's lessons.
"this is gonna suck."
"Silence!" King ordered. "Now demons like me are creatures of sulfur and bones… cruel tricksters of the twilight."
"with cute little paws." Luz cooed with her camera recording the whole lesson.
King sighed and just resigned to luz's interruptions. "and cute little paws, yes. But pay attention our only weaknesses are purified water and hurtful comments… sometimes."
"aw, you guys are sensitive." the girl cooed again.
"even demons have inner demons… behold." king pulled out a big sketch of a ape like monster with a spiked turtle on it's back."
"did you draw that?" Tristan asked, genuinely impressed. I only seen people at luz's weird conventions draw that good.
"yes and stop interrupting! This is the snaggleback the fiercest demon in the boiling isles. It wanders the boiling rain looking for easy prey. He's a..."
"Bad boy!" Luz exclaimed snapping a picture and then adding emoji's and sound effects to it.
"Luz pay attention… this is important."
"I'm sorry king I'm just wanting to get back to learn how to do magic."
"I think I know how to get you you're magic… if you'll listen to my lessons." King extended his hand.
Luz let out a squeal and took his hand. "you help me master a spell and I'll let you teach me about demons for a whole week."
"deal! Now look there is a potion I always see eda drink and I think it helps boost her magic at her advanced age."
"Are you sure that's what it does king?" Tristan asked, shaking his head as this seemed to be a bad idea.
"absolutely!"
"wee, your a prince, thank you king!"
"let's go get that potion."
The three made their way to the sleeping eda's room. They entered to see her deep in slumber. They saw the potion at the night stand and sent tristan to grab it.
The boy crept toward his mentor's den. He placed his hand on eda's forehead he could feel that she was hot. "Oh poor eda, you've caught a fever." he grabbed the potion with the other hand and looked it over there was a tag but he couldn't read it.
As he was about to leave eda grabbed his hand hard and then pulled it to her face. She then… took a couple sniffs? A smile crept on the witches face as she said "baby… must protect."
Tristan backed away slowly and then when he exited the room he handed the teen her potion. He looked back at eda. "I must have pushed her too hard… looks like I'll have to play doctor to keep her healthy."
"you're a good guy Tristan. Eda had nothing except for king and now she has a caring guardian like you. What made you so close to her anyway."
tristan remembered that after the whole banning thing tristan felt bad about how he felt for getting luz banned in school but eda sat with him and they enjoyed another sunset.
You do the best you can for the people you love. You got a good head on your shoulders kid and luz is lucky to have you. Tristan smiled at the memory, eda was not just his magic teacher but also his friend and the person who teaches him what it means to be a witch.
"she made me not hate myself anymore."
Luz began tearing up. "that's so beautiful… I wonder if I can get you and eda in matching sweaters."
"Fat chance! Let's get you mastering a spell light bright."
the two went downstairs and after a few minutes luz was ready to drink the potion.
Just then the lights began to flicker and crash from the living room cuaght the teens attention.
"what was that?" Luz asked dropping the potion bottle making it smash against the floor.
"I'll check it out." Tristan went out to the living room to see the front door, torn off it's hinges with hooty knocked out on the knocker. Standing over the door is a quadrepedal creature scratching it's big claws on the door.
"what is it Tristan?" Luz asked poking her head out to see the creature. "what is that thing!?"
"Luz! Run!" Tristan ran to grab Luz but he was knocked aside by the creatures incredible speed. He slammed against the stairs and hit his head on the barrister.
Over head the creature lifted it's mouth over tristan's head… but stopped when it got within smelling distance. It let out a few strange sounds and then grabbed tristan's color.
The boys vision was blurry as he felt himself be lifted and taken upstairs.
"Tristan! No!" Luz called her voice distorted by the nausea.

tristan's head felt fuzzy… and wet." he felt something soft and slippery rub against his head. "Huh, what's going on?"
tristan began to open his eyes and saw the outline of the monster and it was… licking his hair.
"No! Don't eat me…" He called trying to pull away but the creature just held him gently in it's claws.
It kept licking tristan's hair and then gently nibbling his hair.
What is it doing? Tristan thought just sitting still to not provoke the creature.
After it's tongue and nibbles were done… it let out a yawn. Then picked tristan up by the color of his jersey. Taking him to… it's nest, eda's nest."
"W-where's eda?" Tristan mumbled as the owl placed him on the nest and it felt strangely comfortable.
The beast then positioned itself above tristan and plopped down covering all but the boys hands and face.
Tristan felt his body warm under the creatures belly. It then began making similar sounds to when it picked him up. "y-you think I'm your chick don't you?"
The owl gently licked tristan's face and then rubbed it's head on his face making those same sounds.
Tristan got a good look of the creatures face and saw it was… eda!"
Eda then fell asleep on top of tristan snoring.
"what happened to you old girl… and I can't move… great." Tristan looked in the doorway to see luz and king staring back at him horrified.

"that thing is… eda…" King asked genuinely confused.
"Aw, she is protecting tristan like he's her baby…" Luz cooed.
"Luz, focus! We are in mortal danger unless we help eda." King demanded.
"how? We don't how to fix her?"
"the potion! It must keep eda from becoming that… there should be more in her closest." King pointed to her closest which wss slightly ajar.
"we'll have to sneak up on her in order to get the potion." Luz decided.
The two tiptoed toward the potion closest… taking soft steps inside the room.
Luz stepped on a floorboard with a loud creak as the owl began to stir.
Tristan saw this and then made the same soft sounds eda did which caused the creature to lull itself back to sleep as it cuddled tristan's face.
"Aw, I need a picture." Luz took out her phone and took a picture without the flash.
"Come on… we need to find the potion." king and luz opened the closest to see plenty of potions.
King took one and then took a few steps toward eda.
"Hello! Hoot! I'm hurt! Hooot!" Hooty called from downstairs awakening the owl.
The owl beast spotted luz and king then roared lifting itself and placing it's body between the two and tristan… snarling.
"woah there eda, we don't want to hurt you or your baby… we just want you to drink this potion." Luz said trying to calm eda down.
The owl growled and charged luz.
Three darts of purple energy hit the creatures back to reveal tristan had a used a spell circle.
The boy didn't know how he did it but he knew luz was in danger and didn't want her to be hurt. the rest came natural to him.
"the owl beast looked back betrayed and then at Luz swiping at her again but this time missing.
"Run!" Luz screamed grabbing king.
Tristan ran with her making the owl beast howl in sorrow.
Both tristan and Luz managed to find a place to hide.
"okay, we need to feed eda that potion… but she won't let any of us near her with it unless she is knocked out… how are we gonna do this?" Luz asked trying to think of something.
Inspiration struck tristan "Luz, hand me your phone."
Luz did as he said and watched as he turned the video on of eda using a spell circle.
"watch this… closely." He instructed.
Luz watched the video for a few seconds then she shook her head. "what do you want me to see."
"Look in the center of the spell circle and you'll find out." he said pointing to the center.
Luz saw it… a symbol in the circle. She paused the video and traced it on a leaf. She then tapped the leaf and light ball came out.
"Of course! Black eye demons are weak against bright light."
"But how are we going to get close enough to her to flash the light in her eyes." Luz asked.
"leave that to me." Tristan instructed running out of the room. "when I give the signal jump on her.
"Okay!" luz followed him and then hid inside a broom closest while tristan fell down and grabbed his side.
"Ow, ouch, Mama! Owie!" He called pretending to be hurt… even doing some fake tears.
Out of nowhere the owl beast came running then began looking down at tristan pitifully. It began making soft sounds to comfort the boy. Then slowly bent down to pick him up.
"Now!"
Luz jumped out of the broom closest and placed the light glyph on eda's face then pressed it causing her to pass out.

eda clawthorne awoke with a start as her body was covered up with a blanket and a fluffed pillow under her head.
"Eda! You're awake!" King yelled jumping on her and giving the witch a Hug.
"King? You stole my elixir didn't you?"
"Yes," He admited ashamed.
"well mister, I have a long list of nasty chores for you."
King pointed to where luz was making light glyphs and eda smiled. "i'll be a human doing magic… that's a sight."
"Eda! You're awake I was so worried." Tristan called with a cup of appleblood in his hand.
"That for me?"
"Yeah," he handed it to her.
"thank you…"
"if you ever want to talk about your curse I'm here."
"I didn't hurt anyone when I was under it's effects…"
"Hurt anyone? Yous smothered tristan with maternal affection." King called laughing.
"you're lying…" Eda glared.
"Luz has proof." King eeped running from eda.
"It's true and it's so cute look." Luz showed a picture of eda in her owl beast form cuddling with tristan making him comfy.
"If it makes you feel any better eda… it felt nice being held by someone close to me… I'm sorry that sounded weird."
Eda smiled warmly. He thinks I'm someone close… I knew there was a reason I let that kid stay.
