Who: Rebecca, Molly, Don
When: Some time after they are an 'item' but not yet married.
What: Two adults get interrupted but that's alright, it's for a good cause.
It had become quite the game for them; could she distract him before he got her hair unpinned? Granted, they tended to lose all their clothing first, but it was the distracting before hair pins stage that was...fun. A lot of fun in fact. That was how she found out he was ticklish behind his knees, and how he learned that hands in her hair made her melt...
...and it was fun. She was laughing more with a pirate who would be a king than she ever had with her ex. Despite his career choice she thought that was a good sign...right? It had to be. He made her smile. She hadn't done a lot of that recently.
His hands were on her hips, and she just knew one would be sneaking up her back soon to make a try at a pin...and she was getting a hand up to scratch his chin when there was a loud banging on the door. The soft, frustrated whine in his throat made her blush even as the door swung open behind him. At least he was keeping her safely covered from this angle?
"WHAT IS IT?!" he snarled, fingers flexing in the fur at her hips to ensure his lady didn't go anywhere. If this was Ratchet he was going to...
"...there's thunder." Molly's voice shook, and that made Rebecca gasp and rise on tiptoes to peer over Don's shoulder. "Honey?" Never mind that she had to lean against him to keep her balance, or that he whimpered again, softly, at the full body contact.
"Ah, Molly," Don greeted as casually as he could after swallowing his tongue back. "How nice of you to join us...a storm you say? No one told me." They should have, obviously. He would have...ah, no, he wouldn't have done anything differently in the least.
"It's okay honey," Rebecca assured, "...we..."
"Can I sleep with you guys?"
"I don't think that's a good idea," she sighed, "You have a whole room and the ship is very safe honey!"
"Yes yes, it's all fine and-" Don's ear twitched as thunder crackled through the air around them, rolling and reverberating along the halls. The tiny, terrified sound Molly made was heartbreaking! "Where is your bear?" he asked instead of continuing to shoo the girl.
"I...I don't know! My bed maybe?" Molly was a very brave girl but this was a very big storm that was starting and. "Pleeeeease mom?"
Rebecca closed her eyes and rested her forehead against Don's shoulder a moment, praying for patience (and whatever could substitute for a cold shower). "You don't need to beg Molly, I know it's scary."
"Yes, get your bear and we will all be cozy yes-no?" Don flashed a grin over his shoulder at the girl. "Run, quick and you will beat the thunder!" More importantly...
"Pants!" Rebecca hissed as soon as the girl scrambled to obey. "And where's my robe?! Oh...that's a sock..." Nothing, apparently, sent her into a panic quicker than the idea of being naked when Molly wanted to crawl into bed.
"I need more than a sock," he agreed, grinning and puling her close before she could search out further laundry. "But first things first!" Such as cupping a hand along her head to hold her still long enough for a heated kiss! "Now we will look for clothing!"
Granted, he'd eaten into their precious time with that but she was grinning like an idiot anyway! "Scoundrel," she teased, ducking away from him to find...one of his shirts. With the pitter patter of little feet in the hallway fast approaching it would have to do! She was just getting down on her knees to hug her daughter when the next crash of thunder rang out, turning her daughter from a bear cub into a projectile weapon full of nervous energy.
At least Don had pants on? He'd managed that! That and a smile as he ruffled Molly's hair. That led naturally from trying to comfort the girl to tracing a hand along the hair of the woman the girl was clinging to and...yes, well, distraction. "What are you afraid of?" he couldn't help but ask.
"I don't know, I just am!" Molly admitted, some of her natural resilience shining through now that she was safe with the adults. "It's thunder and we're...we're up in the sky! What if we fall?"
"My ship, fall?" Don repeated, lifting a hand to his heart dramatically. "Of course not! She's a good ship!" And she'd survived much worse than a mere storm in her time!
"So?"
Rebacca giggled and leaned her chin on top of Molly's head, cuddling her close, "so that means it's safe, silly. It can't get you in here."
"I know that," duh, "it's just scary!"
"I may maybe have a solution!" Don pronounced before reaching forward to tuck a strand of hair behind Rebecca's ear. "I expect you two to go to bed now! Go! I am your captain and I say go to bed!" he gently pushed the girls in the right direction then swept out the door.
That left Rebecca blinking a moment as a million bad ideas he could have come up with swam through her head. After all, how did one fix thunder? "C'mon honey," the bed WAS really inviting, even if she had someone unexpected in it!
"Hey mom?" Molly smiled and wiggle comfortably in the blankets, "Were you two kissing?"
How come this was never in the child raising books?! "Yes baby, we were."
"Good!" she giggled and tucked her face against her mother, already yawning again.
Yeah, good. That was the right word. She was still smiling goofily when Don came back looking smug and tucked another strand of hair behind her other ear and...
...and wait. There shouldn't be strands of hair coming down! She lifted a hand to her chignon just as the twist fell down entirely. Don was smirking as he held up the handful of pins he'd palmed each time he'd touched her since Molly entered, then let the small, wiry things drop like gentle rain on the bedsheets. "Conceded to Don Karnage?" he suggested cheerfully.
"Never," she laughed quietly, "but he can share the bed."
"I...will take that!" he grinned toothily and beeped his lover's nose gently before curling up on the edge of the bed, tail draped across Molly to tease along Rebecca's hip. "And the ship is moving, up, above the clouds to leave the thunder behind." His grin softened even more as Molly made a grumpy noise and wiggled until she had a shoulder against each adult's chest.
"You..." Rebecca spoke softly across the child between, "...are very thoughtful."
"Of course!" Don grinned and drew the blankets up over them all, "I'm a pirate after all!"
