Episode 19

"Pick Up Your Feelings"

Scene 1: The Sidhu's (Dev's Bedroom). Night

Ivy is sitting on Dev's bed sketching some designs in her book. Dev is sitting at his desk studying. He looks over his shoulder, peeking at Ivy. She begins to get a feeling she is being looked at and turns to him.

Ivy: You should be studying.

Dev rises from the chair and moves over to the bed. He leans in for a kiss.

Dev: This is me studying.

Dev goes back in for another kiss. He begins to crawl onto the bed as Ivy falls back. He continues to kiss her as he climbs on top of her. Ivy notices that the door was cracked open. She pushes him off. Dev rolls over, trying to regain his composure.

Ivy: I'm sorry, but I don't want to risk your parents walking in on us.

Dev sighs as he climbs out of bed. He gives Ivy one more kiss before returning to his desk.

Dev: I care about you.

Ivy: I know that already, Dev.

Ivy starts laughing as she begins to pack her things. Dev reaches into his desk while she is not paying attention. He pulls out a tiny black box. He starts to get on bended knee but is interrupted when his parents enter the room with a mysterious girl.

Mr. Sidhu: You have a visitor, Bhudev.

Dev (astounded): Nyra?

Nyra: Hello fiancé.

Ivy turns to Dev in disbelief.

OPENING CREDITS

Scene 2: Degrassi (Athletic Field). Morning

Isabella is running along the track field. Mia watches from the bleachers with a disappointed look as she continuously checks her watch.

Mia: Faster. You need to be faster.

Isabella ends her lap. She quickly takes a seat as she catches her breath. Mia joins her with a protein shake. Isabella hesitantly begins to drink it, but the taste was horrible.

Mia: You need to finish all of that. Its pulverized kale, spinach, ginger, and fresh oranges.

Isabella: That is going to kill me.

Isabella hands the drink back to her mother.

Mia: You need to be in the best shape possible for competition season. If I was honest, you could afford to lose a pound or two.

Isabella rolled her eyes and proceeded to walk off. Mia didn't understand what she could have said wrong. She shrugs her shoulders and proceeds to make her leave.

Scene 3: Degrassi (Hallway). Morning

Carina, Kenzie, and Marcel start to approach Isabella at her locker. Isabella slams her locker shut with a visible look of irritation.

Carina: Are you okay?

Isabella slides down to the ground. Marcel takes a seat beside her and comforts his friend.

Isabella: Ever since my mother has come back, it's been nonstop nagging. I'm not good enough in her eyes.

Marcel: You're perfect. You're beautiful. You can be a model.

Isabella begins to smile as she lays her head on Marcel's shoulder. Carina joins them on the floor. She takes hold of Isabella's hand.

Carina: You got us. We'll always be here to pick you up when you're down.

Kenzie: Let's not speak for everyone.

Carina clears her throat as Marcel gives Kenzie a firm glare. Kenzie rolls her eyes.

Kenzie: I mean friends forever, right?

Isabella rises to her feet and hugs Kenzie. Marcel then joins them, followed by Carina.

Scene 4: Degrassi (Main Foyer/Hallways). Afternoon

Students congregate in the halls. Matthew appears to see Lily and Madison talking. He approaches the two girls.

Matthew: What's happening here?

Madison: Excuse my brother. He thinks I'm incapable of making friends.

Lily and Madison begin to laugh.

Lily: We were just having a girl chat.

The three of them begin to walk down the hall. They notice Shay and the Power Squad passing out flyers. Lily was agitated.

Lily: Ugh! I still can't believe she took my spot. I AM THE POWER SQUAD. Without me, there wouldn't even be a squad.

Madison: Don't let them get to you. I'm sure you'll be back on the team in no time.

Matthew (sarcastically): Maybe when hell freezes over.

Madison elbows him in the side. He looks at the two of them to see he was receiving the death glare. Matthew rolls his eyes and turns his attention back to Shay. Madison catches his gaze.

Madison: I need to talk to my brother about his people skills. Catch you after class?

Lily nods as she hugs Madison before departing. As she passes one of the Power Squad members in true Lily fashion, she knocks the flyers out of her hands. Madison elbows Matthew once again to his surprise.

Matthew: What the hell, Maddie?

Madison points to Shay.

Madison: You got a crush!

Matthew ignores her and begins to walk away. Madison, of course, follows him because she knew she was right.

Matthew (annoyed): Drop it! I'm not going to talk about this with you.

Madison: I don't think I ever known you to crush on anyone.

Matthew (mockingly): You tend to have a crush on a different guy every two seconds.

Madison: That might be true, but you have to ask her out.

Madison grabs his arm to prevent him from walking away.

Matthew (insecurely): Why would she ever go out with me?

Matthew walks off. Madison didn't like seeing her brother feeling defeated.

Scene 5: The Dot. Afternoon

Ivy is sitting at the counter with Jordan working behind it.

Jordan: He's getting married?

Ivy: Dev said that he and Nyra had known each other since they were babies, and their marriage was planned since they were like five years old.

Jordan: Are you two going to stay together?

Ivy goes quiet as she didn't have an answer. Dev enters the Dot, and their eyes meet with one another.

Ivy: Here we go.

Ivy rises from her chair, making her way to Dev.

Dev: Can we please talk?

Dev escorts Ivy to one of the booths.

Scene 6: Degrassi (Gymnasium). Afternoon

The Power Squad enters the gym to see Emma speaking with Mia. Isabella becomes anxious as Emma gestures the team to gather around.

Emma: Ms. Jones has graciously agreed to become the coach for the Power Squad. She is a former captain. I'm sure she'll be able to help lead you into this year's nationals.

Mia (cheerfully): I'm so glad to be working with you girls. I'm expecting nothing but the best.

Emma: If you can follow me to my office, we can finalize everything.

Mia nods as she follows Emma out of the gym.

Shay: Let's start stretching, ladies.

The members disperse as they get into groups to start their warm-ups. Madison runs into the gym.

Shay: This is a closed practice.

Madison: My brother and I are hosting a party at Above the Dot. It would be nice if you showed up.

Shay: You do know Alicia is my best friend. I would never show my face at your party, not after the lies he spread.

Madison: Not his best moment, but you should still show up. He wants to make a public apology, so you and Alicia should arrive no later than 8.

Madison runs off before Shay can tell her no once again.

Scene 7: The Dot. Afternoon

Jordan places coffees in front of Ivy and Dev.

Dev: I know this isn't something you asked for, and I understand if you want to end things.

A moment of silence. Ivy takes hold of Dev's hand.

Ivy: This isn't ideal, but I don't want us to break up either.

Dev: Then it's settled. I'm going to talk to my parents and try to sort all this out. Of course, they're going to be upset, but they are just going to have to deal with the fact I'm in love with someone else.

Dev and Ivy lean across the table to share a kiss.

Dev: I'll talk to them tonight.

Scene 8: Avery's House (Basement / Matthew's Bedroom). Evening

Matthew is playing his guitar, wearing headphones. Madison comes down the stairs dressed to impress. Matthew notices his sister and becomes skeptical.

Matthew: Where are you going dressed like that.

Madison: You know what? I thought it was strange that we haven't spent any time twin bonding. So, let's go to a party at Above the Dot.

Matthew puts his headphones back over his ear and strums his guitar. Madison snatches the guitar from him.

Madison: I heard Shay is going to be in attendance.

Matthew contemplates the idea.

Scene 9: Above the Dot. Evening

Music is blaring from the inside of Above the Dot. Isaiah has Carina wrapped in his arms as they stand next to Marcel and Kenzie. They are waiting to enter when they see Isabella approaching down the street.

Isabella: The party has arrived!

They have looks of concern on their faces as they enter the party. Isabella takes off her jacket to reveal a sheer midriff top. She moves to the dancefloor and begins to dance.

Isaiah: Should we be worried?

Marcel: It's giving desperation.

Carina: Let's watch her and make sure she doesn't do anything crazy.

Kenzie: I did not come here to babysit.

Kenzie pulls Marcel onto the dancefloor. In the background, Alicia and Shay enter the venue. Alicia splits off. Madison is at the fake bar ordering a mocktail when she sees the two. She grabs her drink and makes her way to them, but Matthew gets there first.

Matthew (nervously): Hey, Shay. I'm glad you could make it.

Shay: I'm only here because you owe Alicia an apology.

Matthew (bothered): An apology?

Madison quickly intervenes and pulls Matthew away.

Scene 10: Above the Dot (Alleyway). Night

Isabella exits out the venue. Her phone is ringing nonstop even though she is declining the calls.

Isabella (agitated): Yes, mother.

Isabella paces back and forth, becoming tenser and tenser.

Isabella: I'm out with my friends! I don't want to come home.

Isabella hangs up the phone and throws it, almost hitting someone.

K.C.: Woah! Warn a guy if he's going to be your target.

Isabella takes a seat on a crate. She notices a flask in his hand.

Isabella: Can I have some of that?

K.C. takes a seat beside her handing her the flask. She begins to drink.

Scene 11: The Sidhu's (Living Room). Night

Dev opens the door to see Ivy standing there. He takes hold of her hand and escorts her into the living room, where his parents watch T.V. together.

Dev: Baba? Ma?

Mr. Sidhu turns off the tv.

Mrs. Sidhu: What is it Bhudev?

Dev takes a deep breath as he tightens his grip on Ivy's hand. He was nervous.

Dev: I don't want to go through with marrying Nyra.

Mr. Sidhu: What are you saying, Bhudev?

Dev: You and mom married each other because you genuinely loved each other. I think it's only fair that I do the same and follow my heart. With that said, I'm in love with Ivy.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidhu share a look at each other.

Mr. Sidhu: Bhudev!

Ivy: I should probably leave.

Mr. Sidhu: That would be best.

Dev: I want Ivy here, baba.

Mr. Sidhu: Who is this person in front of us right now?I don't recognize this person in front of us right now—this person who has unprotected sex and gets a young girl pregnant. This person who's putting his studies to the side while he chases a girl. We've turned a blind eye, but now you're turning your back on your culture. Bhudev, you and Nyra have made a commitment to bring our families together through this marriage. This behavior is unacceptable and no longer will be tolerated.

Dev stood his ground as he faced his father. Ivy continued to show support.

Scene 12: Above the Dot (Alleyway). Night

Carina exits out of the party to see Isabella holding onto K.C. in a drunken state.

Isabella (yelling): Oh, Carina! Over here!

K.C. tries to avoid eye contact with Carina. Manny walks by to see them trying to carry Isabella. He quickly runs over to them.

Manny: Go inside and get her some water.

Isabella: I don't want any water! I like what's in the flask.

Isaiah, Kenzie, and Marcel arrive on the scene. K.C. trips over his feet, showing he was in no better condition than Isabella.

Manny: We should probably get the two of them home before someone sees them.

Isabella: Manny? I want you to take me home.

Manny nods as he helps her up from the ground. Carina has a disappointed look on her face.

K.C.: I can get myself home. I'll be fine.

K.C. walks off.

Scene 13: Jones Residence. Night

Manny and Isabella approach her porch.

Isabella (slurring): Thank you for walking me home.

Manny: Of course. You shouldn't be alone right now.

Isabella wraps Manny in her arms.

Isabella: It's like you totally get me. The real me. My mother only sees me as a project. Be a cheerleader, get perfect grades, and be the best me.

Manny: Maybe she wants what's best for you. Maybe she's going about it the wrong way, but it sounds like she cares.

Isabella looks into Manny's eyes. She leans in and begins to kiss him, but Manny pulls away.

Manny: Not while you're drunk.

Manny and Isabella stand on the porch. Manny found himself caring about her, but he didn't know how to feel.

Scene 14. The Dot. Morning

Ivy enters the Dot to see Dev waiting for her at a table. He gestures for her to come over.

Dev: Thanks again for letting me stay at your place last night.

Ivy: Anytime. How was seeing your parents this morning?

Dev: They're still pretty upset, but I have no regrets. I love you, Ivy. I am not going to jeopardize our relationship.

Ivy smiles, feeling loved. Dev takes her hand and kisses it. They look into each other's eyes, feeling more connected.

Scene 15. Degrassi (JT Yorke Memorial). Morning

Manny is walking down the hall when he notices Isabella hiding in the memorial garden. He knocks on the window before he enters. A smile comes across Isabella's face as Manny takes a seat beside her on the bench.

Manny: Hey. I just wanted to check on you. See how you're doing?

Isabella: I am better now, thanks to you.

Manny: I didn't do anything besides listen.

Isabella: Well, your listening helped.

Manny smiles as he rises from his seat. Isabella felt butterflies in her stomach. She felt nervous about being around Manny all of a sudden.

Manny: If you ever need to talk to someone, you can always come to me. Just don't look for a solution to your problems by drinking.

Isabella: Will do. And thanks for not mentioning you know.

Manny nods with a smile as he leaves. Isabella has a smile on her face.
