Chapter 2: Hunters
Harry slowly walked outside, where his cousin Dudley was waiting. His heart sank when he saw Dudley's best friend, Piers, with him. "Oh hey, Harry. We were just talking about what to play," said Dudley grinning. "I know - let's play Harry hunting!" Peers exclaimed.
Suddenly, they started chasing after Harry. Harry ran for his life. Harry sprinted round a tree. He heard loud thuds behind him. Harry couldn't keep running forever - he would have to hide. But where could he hide? Could he climb a tree? Dudley couldn't climb trees - he was just too fat and heavy. Harry grabbed a low tree branch and clambered onto it. Then Harry grabbed another tree branch and hauled himself up onto that. Slowly he climbed higher and higher. Finally, he hid behind a curtain of vines.
"Where is he?" said Dudley puzzled. Harry watched as they searched the bushes, the shed and even the bin. Then Dudley peered into the tree harry was hiding in. "There you are, Potter!" he said triumphantly. Dudley reached up and grabbed a branch. He swung himself up, slipped and fell on his bottom. "Ow!" he wined. "You try, Piers."
While Dudley and Piers blundered about below, trying to reach him, Harry just sat there dreaming. He was dreaming about the family he wished he had. Harry imagined he lived in a little cottage with his parents. His parents loved him and gave him lots of kisses and hugs. The Dursleys never gave him so much as a pat on the head. Harry's parents gave him lots of nice food and he could eat as much as he wanted. Harry had a bedroom all his own. He had a cupboard full of brand new clothes. Harry had plenty of toys and a bike. At school, Harry had lots of friends.
Harry thought about school in real life⦠it was in absolute nightmare! Usually, the other children didn't even talk to him. And when they did, it was usually to ask Harry if they could borrow a pencil. Harry knew he be a good friend if he were to get the chance. He would always play with them. Harry would always comfort them when they were sad. He would even share his lunch with them if they wanted. Indeed harry would have been a great friend to any of the neighbourhood children as well. He was extremely kind and clever. Unfortunately, Dudley was a great bully. So Harry had no friends at school or home.
Suddenly, Aunt Petunia called from the kitchen. "Time for lunch, boys!" "Okay, mummy!" Dudley called back. "I've got to go now," said Piers. "See you Dudley" called peers as he left. Then, just as Harry made it back to the ground from the tree, Piers turned and whispered in Harry's ear, "Get you next time Potter..."
