Chapter 8: Holiday

"Harry, have you ever been on holiday?" said Sirius.

Harry thought for a minute. They were sitting at the kitchen table. Sirius was reading a newspaper and Harry was reading one of his books. "I don't think so. Uncle Vernon and aunt Petunia always went with Dudley and left me with Mrs Fig," Harry said wistfully. He wished he could go someplace really nice on holiday. Spain maybe, or Australia, or even Africa. Wouldn't that be nice? You could lie on the beach in the sun and eat lots of ice cream.

Sirius looked at his newspaper again. Harry didn't know it, but Sirius was looking at a bunch of adverts for a places to go on holiday. He was thinking about what Harry had said. He thought about how sad Harry had looked when he'd said it. It was heart breaking that Harry had never been on holiday. Every kid had been on holiday. Even Sirius had once. Wouldn't it be nice if he could take Harry on holiday? Then something caught his eye. It was an advert for Disney World. Now, wouldn't that be a nice place to take Harry?

"Harry, would you like to go to Disney World?" Sirius said, smiling out at his godson. Happiness filled Harry like a hot air balloon. Oh, how he would love to go to Disney World. "Yes please!" shouted Harry at the top of his lungs, and he threw his arms around Sirius. "Then it's settled. We'll go to Disney World. Now your job is to figure out what will do there."

Later, Harry knelt on the floor packing suitcase on his bed. He was packing for the trip. What should he take? Some pyjamas, his toothbrush, his blue T-shirt and shorts, his teddy bear, his toy soldiers, 'The Wizard and the Hopping Pot', his favourite picture book and a packet of crayons. There, he was done. Satisfied, Harry closed his suitcase and put it in the corner. It took much longer for Sirius to pack his suitcase. After all, he was taking all the maps and passports and things like that. He had bought Harry an autograph book, so he could get some characters' autographs. Sirius also brought his camera, so he could take pictures and then put them in a special potion to make them move. They had made a long list of what they were going to do at Disney World - rides, shows, parades, meet-and-greets and more.

"Wow, look at that plane!" shouted Sirius over the noise of the airplane that was flying overhead. They were at the airport, and they were just getting out of the taxi when an enormous jet flew overhead. "How many people do you think would fit inside it?!" asked Harry loudly over the roar of the plane. "I'd say about 1000," shouted Sirius. "Wow, they make such a racket!' he added.

They were heading into the airport now, wheeling their suitcases behind them. "Harry what do we do now?" ask Sirius, looking worried. Sirius has been asking these types of questions all morning. It was because he had never used an airport or an airplane before. He was excited, but also slightly nervous. "We go through security." "And what do we do there?" "We put our bags on the conveyor belt," said Harry patiently. "What is a conveyor belt?" said Sirius, looking confused. Just then, they reached security. "Hello, can I help you?" said the pretty lady behind the conveyor belt. Sirius stared at said object, entranced. "Yes hello, could you check our bags for us please?" Harry said calmly. They put their suitcases onto the conveyor belt, which carried the items safely away to be scanned. Once that was done, they headed through to the metal detectors. Sirius was a bit nervous when walking through. However, Harry calmly led him through. Once all that was done, Sirius and Harry headed over to a little shop where they brought some sweets for the plane. "What are 'Polo Mints'?" asked Sirius, staring at a rack of them. Harry stared at Sirius. How had he never heard of Polo Mints? "They are little mints with holes in them. They're quite nice. I've had some - my teacher gave them around at school." "And what do they do?" "Nothing, they're just mints. They're muggle sweets, so they don't have any kind of magic or anything." Sirius still looked confused, but he bought a packet.

In about 15 minutes, the flight was boarding. Sirius found it weird that they had to go to the gate. It was Harry's first time on a plane to. But at least he knew what to expect. They were playing music inside as people were boarding. It was very quiet music, you couldn't really hear it above the drone of the airplane. Then, they played the safety recording. "Welcome to British Airways. We hope you enjoy your flight. Please make sure that you are buckled in. In the event of a crash, we ask you to please remain calm and use the emergency exists without stopping to pick up any personal possessions. In the event of a water landing, you will find a lifejacket under your seat. Attached to the lifejacket is a light and a whistle. Inflatable slides will be located outside each exit – we ask that all high-heeled shoes be taken off before using them." Sirius was looking slightly sick. "Are you sure this thing is safe?" "I think so. If you're wondering about plane crashes, I think they only happen once in a blue moon," Harry replied. He was a bit worried himself though. The safety recording continued. "There is no smoking on the plane. Please wear your seatbelt, until the seatbelt signs are turned off. Enjoy your flight." The plane then taxied along the runway before roaring its engines and taking off. "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" cried Sirius in delight. Everyone stared at him like he was a madman, which was slightly embarrassing. The rest of the flight was wonderful though. Harry enjoyed it very much - except for the part when his ears popped on the landing.

When they arrived at their hotel in Florida hours later, Harry was exhausted. It seemed like a bed would be the most welcoming thing. "Are you tired, mini-marauder?" asked Sirius gently. "Yes," Harry mumbled sleepily. It had been a long day and he was very tired. They headed up to their room. The room was… just wow. It was decorated in Little Mermaid wallpaper and it had lots of pictures of Disney characters and Mickey Mouse bedcovers. Harry couldn't remember going to bed, or Sirius tucking him in, or giving him a cuddle goodnight. All at once, he was just asleep. The next day, Harry and Sirius enjoyed a delicious breakfast of sausages, bacon and eggs. Then the fun began.

Sirius brought out the map. "So, what's first?" "Magic Kingdom! Mickey Mouse!" said Harry excitedly. Mickey was really cute. "Hi. I'm Harry. This is my godfather Sirius," said Harry to Mickey shyly. "Hi," said Sirius much more boldly, "can we get a picture?" Mickey nodded happily and they all took a picture together. "How is Donald Duck?" said Harry curiously. Mickey nodded energetically, to signify that he was well. "Can you sign my autograph book?" Harry asked eagerly. Mickey signed it with a flourish.

The next thing that they did was go on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a huge mine themed rollercoaster. It was absolutely amazing. Then they went on Space Mountain, an outer-space themed indoor roller coaster. "Seems like a strange name calling it space Mountain." Said Sirius. "I mean, why have a mountain in space?" Both of them screamed when they went down the slope. "It was amazing though" admitted Sirius afterwards.

After lunch, Harry asked if they could meet Donald Duck. "Of course we can, mini-marauder," said Sirius as he wiped some candy floss off his nose. Sirius thought it would be funny to see what would happen if you tickled Donald. Donald started bouncing and squawking and Harry couldn't stop laughing for five minutes. Then they sat down for a breather. "What do you want to do next?" asked Sirius after he'd recovered. "The Country Bear Jamboree!" said Harry after he too had finally stopped laughing. The Country Bear Jamboree was a stage show starring a cast of singing bears. Harry and Sirius both danced to the music and had a lot of fun. They then decided to do Cinderella's Castle. It was really enchanting and Harry enjoyed it a lot. "This is just like a real castle!" said Sirius impressed. It was certainly huge and took ages to tour round. Next they had dinner in the Be Our Guest Restaurant, marvellously themed after 'Beauty and the Beast'. In the evening, Sirius and Harry watched the fireworks, which were spectacular. Harry couldn't stop squealing and jumping up and down.

The next day, Sirius decided to take Harry to Animal Kingdom. "So what do you want to do?" Sirius asked as they entered the park. "Can we see the porcupines?" asked Harry bouncing up and down again. "Sure." Porcupines are very interesting and they stuck up their quills for the guests. However Harry was a bit frightened by this. So Sirius had to calm him down. The porcupines also had babies, which was really cute. The next thing they saw was the tigers, which are scary but still very interesting. Then, they visited Gorilla Falls. "Is that a baby gorilla?" asked Harry as they walked through the forest. "Yeah, I think so. Isn't she cute?" said Sirius gazing at a tiny gorilla who was hanging from its mother's back. Then they saw elephants, lions and parrots. They were all very interesting. Harry especially liked the elephants. They reminded him of a picture he had once seen in a picture book.

On the third day, they went back to Magic Kingdom. The first thing they went on was the Prince Charming Regal Carousel. "It sounds very posh," commented Sirius. But it was very relaxing riding atop a regal horse and galloping through a whirling backdrop of colour and music. Then they watched Mickey's Festival of Fantasy Parade. "Sirius, why is it called Festival of Fantasy?" asked Harry. "I'm not sure," said Sirius. It was amazing though, with fantastic music and dance. Harry even got a Mickey Mouse balloon.

Next thing they did was to go to the Princess Fairytale Hall in Fantasyland and meet Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. "Hello, what's your name?" Aurora said sweetly. "I'm Harry. This is Sirius, my godfather. And I really like your movie. Do you think we could have a picture?" asked Harry "Oh of course!" she replied. They took a lovely picture with Aurora's arm around Harry. "May I ask you a question?" Harry said. "Who is your sidekick?" "That is a lovely question! My sidekicks are two rabbits and an owl." Harry got a signed autograph from Aurora and a hug. They then watched some fireworks, before also meeting Snow White and Harry getting a kiss from her. Sirius got a kiss too, which made him blush. After lunch, they watched even more fireworks. "Let's go on Splash Mountain!" Sirius then said excitedly as the fireworks ended.

As they rode on the lazy log flume of Splash Mountain, Sirius sighed with pleasure. "No crazy roller coasters here. Just some cute funny animals as we float by," he said. Harry grinned to himself. He knew what was coming. Suddenly, the log flume dropped. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I thought this was a smooth non-rollercoaster ride!" said Sirius, half-screaming, half-shouting. Afterwards, Sirius and Harry went to watch a cavalcade – a sort of mini-parade, with a few characters on vehicles passing by and waving. Then Harry asked if they could please visit Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. So they went to meet him. He looked just like in the movie, thought Harry. "Hi there. I'm Sirius. This is my godson Harry Potter. I like your helmet," said Sirius. Buzz Lightyear waved to them. Sirius took some pictures with his camera. "Is Woody your best friend?" asked Harry, smiling up at the Space Ranger. Buzz Lightyear nodded. Then Harry got a hug and an autograph. The autograph was surrounded by little tiny spaceships.

Next the pair went back to Princess Fairytale Hall, this time to meet Rapunzel. Again, she looked just like her movie Tangled. Rapunzel had long flowing golden hair and a lovely pink dress. "Hello, what are your names?" asked Rapunzel. "I'm harry and he's Sirius," Harry explained. "Oh what lovely names!" she exclaimed. "What is your favourite thing to do?" asked harry. "Well, I like to paint," said Rapunzel. "What do you like to do?" asked Rapunzel. "Well, I like to play with my toy soldiers." He then got a picture with Rapunzel with her arm around Harry and also an autograph surrounded by little golden flowers.

The next day they went to Epcot. There they went on lots of rides, saw many shows and watched some parades. Harry's favourite part was going on Frozen Ever After – a voyage to Arendelle aboard a Nordic ship while taking a musical tour of the wintery world from Frozen.

It was a lovely holiday. Except for the part when Sirius was sick on the flight back.
