Confessional Video footage Love is Blind Westeros Season 2 Episode 2
Off Screen voice of Interviewer: "So tonight's the big night, you're planning on proposing to Gilly?"
A sweaty and anxious looking Sam bobs his head for the camera while a nervous smile lights up his round face. "She's just the most wonderful person I've ever met. Sweet, kind, patient even when I'm prattling on endlessly and she knows when to stop me from just talking on and on and on….like now." he blushes shyly.
Interviewer: "And you know all this without knowing what she looks like. Know that she's the one you want to spend your life with."
Sam's affable face hardens for half a second before returning to his sunny smile. "I know she's beautiful, because her soul is. The package doesn't matter. Not to me."
Interviewer: "So if she says yes, you'll see each other for the first time tonight. Are you excited? Worried?"
"Yes." Sam squeaks, monosyllabic for once as his eyes dance frantically, betraying his feelings. He heaves out a sigh and shifts his bulk. "Yes I'm excited. I can't wait to see her to know she's real. But there's a part of me that's worried. I know what I look like and I hope that I'm not a disappointment to her." A gloomy look passes like a storm cloud in front of the sun of his perpetually cheerful face.
Interviewer: "Did you think when you arrived here that you'd be the first proposal of the season?"
Sam laughs, "No! But I think I knew after that first conversation."
Interviewer: "There was even a bet going that you'd propose as early as day three, the first day of full length dating."
"Goodness," Sam blanched. He chortled, "I did think about it, but having Edd here to remind me not to quote 'Blow it with that girl by coming on too strong too fast like you tend to do.' helped. That and Ygritte threatening me." he tittered anxiously. "But I'm glad I waited until..What day is this? It's like a Lysene casino here. I never know how much time has passed."
Interviewer: "It's day six. Four more days until the engaged couples leave for the Summer Isles."
Sam waves his hand dismissively, "Anyway, I'm glad I waited. Ygritte told me she had been hurt in the past and to not be a 'Southron chit' and mess it up."
Interviewer: "Because if you hadn't waited, you wouldn't have known about her son before you proposed, who by coincidence is also named Sam."
"I don't think it's a coincidence at all. I think it's fate." Sam said brightly. "I'm going to be a husband and a father!" He paused suddenly, looking panicked. "At least I hope I am."
"I still say it counts." grumbled Tyrion on their date early that evening after Gilly had said yes to Sam's proposal as they had every evening (and most afternoons) since their first three hour date.
"You said and I quote "Tomorrow. Take or leave the side wager Sansa.", she mimicked in a deep baritone. "That was three days ago. Are you really that desperate for a win?"
He really was. It had only taken two more days for Sansa to correctly identify all the men with their partners. Tyrion was still in the weeds, only having added two more sets to his list. Ygritte/Gilly due to Sam's constant chattering and Missandei/Daenerys after Tyrion had been randomly assigned a date with the soft-spoken linguist after she and Daenerys had quarreled. They had become friends in the aftermath and Tyrion suspected much like his friend Arya, that Missandei's heart was already spoken for. He was perplexed as to why either lady stayed on the show but assumed it had to do with their respective partners.
"Fine. I'll take my loss or.." he teased
"Or what?" Sansa flirted back.
Tyrion's heart skipped. He loved it when she got sassy and flirty. "We can do another bet. Double or nothing. Who's next to leave the show?" Tyrion asked.
Sansa laughed "It is becoming a bit like Willy Wonka around here. I can practically hear the Oompa-loompas singing every time somebody leaves."
Tyrion gritted his teeth, his nails digging into the arm rest. A flashback of being forced to dress up as an Oompa-loompa for Halloween one year by Cersei for a group costume contest (who dressed up as Veruca Salt, a character as horrid as her) flashed through his mind. For weeks afterward he had an unnatural orange tinge to his skin.
But the description was accurate, nevertheless. First Obara and Tyrene, and then Trystane departed. Apparently the Dornish aren't meant for Love is Blind what with both the girls being a bit shallow and Trystane still in college and far too young for marriage. His Uncle left a day later. He was looking for a woman like himself that believed in monogamy of the heart, but not the bedroom. Hyle finally left in a snit, when he realized that he wasn't going to win Brienne away from his brother. (Jaime was already head over heels for Brienne and only hadn't proposed because he wanted her to know the complete truth about his past. She knew the broad strokes, but not all the details and Jaime was terrified as soon as the mention of incest was thrown into the ether she would be gone in a flash. From his own conversations with Brienne, Tyrion thought she was made of stronger stuff and she already already suspected that there was a huge secret Jaime was waiting to divulge.)
"So who do you think is next to go? Or next to propose?" Tyrion said. "I'm dying over here for points."
"I still can't believe you haven't figured out who my sister is yet." Sansa teased. "I thought you'd be better at this."
"Maybe if I didn't spend all my time with you…."
"Don't even. You've spent lots of time with her."
"Well I know who she isn't." he said with a pout. And he did have some eliminated like Brienne for example. He was sure she would have said something if they were sisters. "Anyway, back to the original question. Who's next?"
"Hmmm, to propose? I think your brother and Brienne. To leave I think Missandei. She is clearly not interested in being here and I think Daenerys has narrowed down her prospects to Drogo. Actually, I'm going to change my answer to Daenerys and Drogo, although she may do the proposing."
"I agree with you on Drogo and Daenerys but I think Ygritte is the next to leave."
"Ygritte?" Sansa exclaimed "But Jon is crazy about her! I thought they'd be one of the couples that made it!"
"Well if he is he's doing a shit job of communicating his feelings according to the Sam/Gilly rumor mill. Apparently, he's been spending a lot of time with Arya and Ygritte's afraid he's toying with her feelings."
"But Jon isn't like that at all! He's always been a one woman type of guy if he even has a clue about talking to girls at all!" Sansa said frantically. "I have to go talk to him before he blows this."
A booming laugh echoed across the pods.
"What was that for?" Sansa asked surprised.
"I just took the lead in our game." Tyrion gloated.
"How do you figure?"
"I've known for days that your little mystery had something to do with Jon but this just seals the deal. You know him from outside the show and not just casually." The lack of response other than a squeak was all the acknowledgement Tyrion needed. "And you speak of him as if you know him well..." his mind churned as the last piece clicked into place and the answer was plain as day "...but in an almost sisterly manner. However, even a show like this would at least do enough of a background check to not cast siblings. But maybe not...cousins?" Tyrion guessed.
"Seven hells!" Sansa grumbled.
Tyrion laughed again before stopping abruptly as a whole other answer revealed itself in his mind. "And he's been spending so much time with Arya because," he paused, reasoning it out as he spoke but moving to the edge of his seat in excitement "not because he's a ladies man but quite the contrary?" A triumphant smile slid across his face "Because Arya's his cousin too, being your sister and all."
A string of soft swear words was all the answer he needed. "Don't think this means you've won. But I have to go save the dummy's lovelife before it's too late." she sighed.
"Will I see you later?" he asked as he heard her move to leave, trying his best not to sound desperate as the sweetness of winning was eclipsed by her early exit.
"After Sam and Gilly's proposal." Another change implemented by Varys was that the cast would be able to watch the engaged couples meet for the first time.
"It's a date."
Sansa was worried that Arya might be on a date or doing her interviews, but found her running on the treadmill in the gym instead. Arya had always had a strenuous workout routine, but it had almost doubled in intensity since they had arrived here. She often wondered if she was trying to out run (or kick or punch or lift) her troubles behind. For all her hopes that this time would bring them closer, Arya had been as communicative as ever about her feelings, which of course was not at all.
Sansa hadn't exactly been super forthcoming herself regarding her feelings for Tyrion either. For as public a spectacle as this would become in a few months, right now she was just enjoying the intimacy the pods created with this remarkable man and she wasn't ready to share it yet. And to be perfectly honest, Arya and her had never been one to gossip about boys together. They had grown closer since their father's death but that was one area of their lives they had never shared. They were both private to a fault about their love lives (an irony not lost on Sansa as they were now about to have that aspect of their lives televised to millions.)
So it was no surprise to her that she found Arya alone in the gym during peak after dinner date hours.
The look on her face caused Arya to quickly remove her earbuds. "What's wrong? Did you and Tyrion have a fight?" her eyes widened, "Did he propose?"
"What? No, nothing like that." Sansa stuttered "How did you know about me and Tyrion?"
Arya rolled her eyes "I'm not oblivious Sansa. Plus he mentions you only about a million times during our morning yoga sessions."
"I'm not oblivious either." Sansa replied. "Or are we ever going to discuss what or should I say who you're running from every evening instead of spending time in the pods with some eligible and charming men who are very interested in you...like Gendry?" Sansa blurted out remembering some gossip she heard from Margaery. For as much as the woman didn't appear to have her eyes zeroed in on any of the men, she knew all about who was seeing whom on both sides.
Arya's face flushed scarlett and Sansa could see her gearing up for an argument. "Nevermind, we'll discuss this later. Right now we have to find Ygritte." she said explaining the situation.
They found a PA who told them that Ygritte was not in any of the pods so they hurried out to her trailer, where they found a packed bag on one of the beds.
"That's not a good sign." Arya said.
"She wouldn't have left before Gilly's proposal, so it's not too late. Let's check the other trailers."
All the other trailers were empty except for one. Margaery came to the door of her trailer in a skimpy robe that barely covered her ass while displaying her other assets to perfection. Her hair was a mess and she looked flushed and glassy eyed. Sansa had clearly interrupted..something. Embarrassed, she rambled "Is Ygritte here? Because Jon is crazy about her and she thinks he's into Arya but he's not because he's our cousin and I think she's going to leave and we need to stop her…"
A sultry laugh echoed from inside the trailer before Ros appeared wrapped in a sheet. "The only redhead in here is me." Ros said, slipping her arm around Margaery's waist. "Unless of course you'd like to join us." she said in a teasing voice.
Margaery swatted her arm playfully. "Stop teasing her. Sansa here is hopelessly into the male sex at the moment. And I can't say I blame her when she's got Tyrion's voice to talk her to orgasm." Sansa's eyes grew huge, her brain overloaded at the thought. "You mean you haven't had pod sex yet?" Margaery asked with a smirk.
"Gods, you say I'm bad." Ros murmured rolling her eyes indulgently before kissing her on the temple. "Give us a minute to get dressed and we'll help you find Ygritte."
They found Ygritte in the makeup trailer with a stunning, but frightened looking Gilly who was preparing to meet her fiance for the first time. Arya and Sansa dragged Ygritte outside while Margaery and Ros gushed over Gilly's hair and makeup trying to soothe her nerves.
"What?" Ygritte asked them defensively through clenched teeth as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Don't go." Sansa started "Jon.."
Arya placed her hand on Sansa's arm stopping her before she continued, "Do you honestly think Jon is a player?" Arya asked with an incredulous smile on her face. "Because Jon is many things: kind, trusting, loyal to a fault, smart while also being a bit of a himbo at times..." Sansa agreed, nodding her head and holding her thumb and forefinger a small distance apart. "But definitely not a man that would string a woman along. Jon's always been a wolf, and when he takes a mate it will be for life. When I'm with him in the pods, you're all he talks about except when we're talking about family stuff."
"Family stuff?" Ygritte inquired as her defensive posture dropped.
Sansa shrugged "He's our favorite cousin."
Arya nodded. "Or most annoying. Depends on the day and his level of dumbassery. Today that level is pretty high considering he almost lost a girl that I think he's falling in love with. A girl we think is pretty amazing too."
The smile that lit up Ygritte's face was all the answer they needed to know about her feelings on the matter.
Tyrion sat next to his brother and the other remaining men on one side of a one way mirror that made up the long hall that the engaged couples met in. On the other side was another one way mirror which the ladies sat behind. On either side of the hall were doors that would slide open to dramatic effect to reveal the newly engaged couple to each other.
"Is it weird that I find this strangely exciting?" Jaime murmured to Tyrion.
"Just wait until it's you and my future goodsister." Tyrion replied.
"If she's still speaking to me after I tell her about Cersei," Jaime replied glumly under his breath.
"Your lady knight is made of sterner stuff than that. I think you should give her more credit."
"It's not her, I'm doubting. It's my own worthiness.'' Turning on Tyrion, he replied, "Maybe it will be you and my own future goodsister?"
Panic gripped his throat and he couldn't breathe for a second. "Jaime" he said in warning.
"Just tell her. Your lady's made up of sterner stuff than that too and I think YOU should give HER more credit." Jaime said in turn.
Tyrion was about to parrot his brother's words back to him about feeling unworthy, when Edd (who was looking considerably less dour these days maybe due to his budding romance with the sweet and shy Rosalin) shushed everybody. "They're going to open the doors." he announced before sitting down and mumbling "Don't you mess this up Sam."
Tyrion kept his eyes firmly locked on the door Gilly would be entering. He knew what Sam looked like and was more interested in seeing her reaction. The door opened and a pretty (in a girl next door sort of way) brunette with a cupid's bow of a mouth stepped forward. Her eyes grew large when she spotted Sam, and a huge smile lit up her face. "What are you doing Sam?" she giggled, tottering down the carpet on heels she clearly was not used to wearing.
Tyrion's attention turned to Sam, who was walking down the hall clutching a hand full of flowers in one hand while covering his eyes with the other. "Gilly?" he called out to her.
"I'm right here Sam." she said patiently, pulling on his arm to hold the hand that was covering his eyes. "I think you can open up your eyes now."
"I wanted you to see me before you finally made up your mind to be with me or not. But I can't bear to see the disappointment in your eyes." he said thickly, his voice trembling.
Tyrion's heart sank knowing just how Sam felt.
She leaned forward and kissed him fully on the mouth. "But if you don't open your eyes, how can you see how excited I am to be your wife when you propose?" she said as she pulled away after a long kiss.
Sam's eyes popped open at that and his jaw dropped as he finally beheld his wife to be. "Wow, wow, wow, wow" he babbled repeatedly, only being hushed by Gilly's kisses for the next minute. Smiling broadly as all his fears disappeared, he dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring from his pocket.
There were some tears and hugs (and a few whispered endearments of love) as the happy couple was separated and returned to their respective sides. The men went to congratulate Sam, but Tyrion couldn't help but stop and stare at the mirror across the way. Watching Sam and Gilly's first meeting had finally brought the reality of the situation to the happy little bubble he had been inhabiting.
Behind that mirror sat the remaining women, and one in particular that he was starting to fall hopelessly in love with. He could only wonder at her own reaction if they were ever to meet. Jaime was right, he could tell her about his condition. It was probably better to greet his fears head on. But wouldn't her reaction be more genuine if he didn't? The last thing he wanted was pity or someone who was just trying to make themselves look accepting of him on television when they really weren't. Sansa didn't seem like that sort of person, but Tyrion would rather have the hard truth than not. Plus wasn't that the heart of the matter...to see if love was truly blind? No, he decided. If he were to put himself out there for Sansa once and for all, it would be mind, body and soul. Take it or leave it.
But was he brave enough to even try?
And what if he did and it just wasn't enough?
What if he wasn't enough?
