Part 2: Miraculous End
Tensions were running high for the two heroes of the Miraculous. Ladybug and Chat Noir stood atop the dome of the Agreste mansion, home of Chat Noir himself. This was the night, the final battle. This was the night they would finally defeat Hawkmoth and save Paris once and for all.
"Ok. We do this like Master Fu suggested," Ladybug readied her yo-yo, "You lead the charge since you know this place best, then we make a move for his Miraculous. You keep him distracted while I free his butterflies." She looks to Chat Noir, but his eyes are unfocused and distracted. He is shaking ever so slightly. "Chat?"
The hero in black looked regretfully at his home. A small uneasiness made it to his stomach. He felt in a daze. Was this truly what he would have to do? Only a gentle hand on his shoulder from Ladybug brought him out of his haze. "Are you ok? I mean, are you really ready for this?" Chat Noir slowly nodded, "Of course I am. I know I have to do this, I just...he's still my father. How could he have gone this far? And why?" He shakes his head as the two make their way towards the circular window leading into the dome. Chat readies his claws to start cutting the glass, but his hands shake involuntarily, and his claws screech slightly. He quickly stops himself and growls at his hand.
Ladybug lightly pulls him away, trying to ease his rising frustration. "Hey, lets not work ourselves up right at the start," her words don't carry, and Chat turns his head away with a slight huff. She pulls herself in front of him, "Adrien…"
This makes him calm down, even getting him to grin ever so slightly. It had not been long ago when he had revealed himself by accident. Marinette, the true identity of Ladybug, had been caught in a moment of danger. Adrien had been the only one in any position to save her, and it was life or death at that moment. He saved her at the cost of revealing himself, which had prompted Marinette to do the same. Since then, the two had made their relationship official, and all seemed well. But it wasn't long before they had figured out the Identity of their enemy, the villain Hawkmoth who was Adrien's own father.
"I never could have imagined things would turn out like this, Marinette," Chat chuckled, brought back to reality by her smile. "So much is changing so fast, I'm not sure if I can keep up." Ladybug rustled his hair, "Change is a part of life, and we have to make the right changes tonight before Hawkmoth's plans lead to him enslaving this city and its people." She puts a hand to Chat's face, and the two meet eyes. Chat nods to her with a new resolution in his eyes.
The two decide without words to make this a moment to treasure. Marinette smiles at her love, and Adrien returns a joyful grin. Our heroes share a passion filled kiss, simple yet loving. Once they pull away, a simple "I love you," follows from the both of them. Ready for the challenges ahead, Chat uses his claws to cut open the circular window on the roof. The two heroes hop in, ready to stop their nemesis once and for all.
How wrong things could go…
Although they charged in with all the courage in the world, Chat Noir and Ladybug were overwhelmed on all sides. It was a wonder that the too managed to battle their way down into the chambers under the mansion with Mayura creating senti-monsters from the various objects. The two heroes came to battle Hawkmoth deep in the depths, but Chat's resolve was destroyed byh what they found in that deep chamber. It was his mother, trapped in a state of undeath. Hawkmoth tried to reason with Chat and asked for his miraculous, but Ladybug would not allow one life to be wished back at the cost of another, and the situation deteriorated.
The battle broke out into the city, with the chase between Heroes and Villain going back and forth. This eventually reached the base of the eifel tower, where a rage filled kick to the chest by Chat Noir knocked Hawkmoth to the ground. "Cataclysm!" stopped the blood in the villain as he saw his son before him, posed to unleash his power. Chat fought back the tears in his eyes, "Why? Why have you used us like this, threatened our lives like this."
As Hawkmoth staggered backwards, he saw one of his akuma flying closer, and so put on a fearful face. "I did this for you, my son. I'm doing this to save your mother, because you are both the most precious things to me."
Chat could not hold back any more. The tears began falling. Wordlessly, he lowered his hand, overwhelmed with information. "How can you…" was all he could manage, his state of mind on the edge of a knife.
Ladybug saw the akuma, yelling "Chat, look out!" And swinging her yo-yo to try and catch it.
But she was too late.
The akuma flew into Adrien's Miraculous, and a wave of pain surged through him as Hawkmoth began to laugh. Now both heroes were in rage, Ladybug dashing at hawkmoth and trading heavy blows, while Chat struggled to resist his fathers control. Ladybug was confident, for if she could keep hawkmoth distracted, then his control would be easier to fight.
And then another akuma flew at Chat Noir.
Unable to move away in time, Chat roared in pain as another akuma flew into the bell on his collar. He tried to reach for his staff, but then an a third akuma flew into that just as he took hold. Ladybug and Hawkmoth both stopped and stared at Chat Noir, Ladybug with horror and Hawkmoth with malice as his son was forcibly surrounded by darkness. "Even the strongest will cannot resist my unending swarm! Rise, my instrument of destruction! Rise..!"
A pale white forms emerged from the darkness. In all regards, it still looked like Chat Noir, but his black suit had become a lifeless white and his green eyes were now a cold blue. Yet, his face seemed absolutely torn. Blue energy was coursing through his hand, the cataclysm once in his hand now being amplified and charged up. "…Chat Blanc. Now, destroy Ladybug, and let us make our dreams come true."
Despite being transformed, the sliver of Adrien with still resisted. Though Chat raised his cataclysm hand, he wobbled it away from Ladybug. "Adrien, I know you're in there. You have to fight him, I know you can."
"…La…dy…bug…ragh!" The akuma struggles in pain as the Hawkmoth symbol appears over his face. "No, you fool! I am your father, you will obey me! Don't you see I'm doing this for your sake?!"
Ladybug and Hawkmoth stand back in horror as the energy in Chat's arm continues to charge up. Adrien realizes that the destruction he wields needs to be released, otherwise it will overpower him. But how can he destroy one of the people he loves? "I…I…" the energy in his arm manifests as a glowing orb of blue energy that begins to expand. What can he do? What will he do? Will he follow his father, or listen to his beloved?
"Son!"
"Adrien!"
But his hesitation decides for him.
Before Ladybug or Hawkmoth can reach him, Chat Blanc unleashes a wave of destructive energy that consumes them both. Chat screams in horror as he sees both of them consumed. The strings in his head snap, and the blast spreads further and further. Chat Blanc's unhindered power grew to cover the entire globe. Soon, the whole earth shone with a brilliant bright blue, outshining the sun itself.
And then there was quiet.
The only thing spared this apocalypse was Chat Blanc himself, who found himself before the pale and lifeless shells of Hawkmoth and Ladybug.
He dared not touch Ladybug, for fear of reducing this shell to dust. Tears filled Chat's eyes as he howled out in despair, before he glared at the frozen face of his father. "You…you did this." His shaky hands gripped his staff and he raised it like a bat. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!" In a blind fury, Chat Blanc beats down the husk of his father. He cleaves off It's head, beats down it's torso, and keeps on beating it, howling and screaming in fury and despair. The only thing left in one piece is the head, staring back at him frozen in fear.
"WHY DID YOU MAKE ME DO THIS!" Chat screams, "You turned me into a monster! You showed me no love! And yet…WHY DIDN'T I KILL YOU!?" But the Hawkmoth could no longer answer him again. Not now, not ever. Chat Blancs' fists burst with blue energy as he smashes the head into dust. Again, he continues to unleash his rage until there is nothing left of his father but a crater in the ground.
And when all the rage fizzles out, there is nothing left but tears. Chat Blanc finds himself kneeling before the marble shell of Ladybug, as if begging it to come back to life. "There has to be something I can do, at least one person still here that can help me…"
Mournfully, as the sun slowly descends and ascends, Chat loses track of all time. Days become weeks, and weeks become months. All Chat knows is that eventually, the poles melted and the ground he knelt on became a shallow sea. He tried in desperation to search the globe for something, anything that could reverse what he had done. But as months became years, Chat lost all hope, and found himself at last before his love once more. There was nothing he could do but mourn his love with a yearning song of better times, and so it was.
Time faded away for Chat Noir, the sun rising and falling countless time. All he could wish for was an end to this nightmare as the horrified face of Marinette stood before him.
…and then he heard a faint crash in the distance…
Aladar Caval: Hey guys. I know this one's been a long time coming, but now I'm finally on winter break. I'm going to be honest, this whole chapter was originally longer, but I was just getting bogged down in details that were rather unnecessary. Personally, I have a hard time writing Ladybug stuff since and I think Dancecat25 does it better. That being said, I hope you liked the last setup chapter of Apocalypse Cross.
